We first went to the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and when we asked about other places with Barry Sanders history they recommended this place. I will warn you the place is small and you could go through it fairly quickly but the guy who was working there took us on a tour of what he thought was some important and interesting history that we would like to know. He was very informative and so incredibly hospitable. This museum was Free but we loved it so much we went to the convenient store next door to get cash to take back and donate!

What was most disappointing wasn't the policy itself--it was the complete lack of customer service. The front desk staff seemed entirely unempowered to do anything beyond repeating, "That's our policy," with no effort to offer an explanation, alternative, or even a hint of empathy for the situation. Businesses are free to set whatever policies they choose, but the way those policies are communicated matters. We left feeling that customer experience was an afterthought. The combination of poor communication, inflexibility, and indifferent service turned what should have been a positive visit highlighting Wichita into a frustrating and disappointing experience.

Many old photos, retro signage and that unmistakable "this is where it all started" energy. Even from the wrong side of the door, it's still pretty cool. Pizza Hut was founded here in Wichita in 1958 by brothers Dan and Frank Carney. After decades of expansion and multiple ownership changes, it is currently in the process of being sold by Yum! Brands to a capital company and a Chinese partner. The chain struggled in recent years due to declining US sales, increased competition and the rise of delivery-first rivals with lower costs. The latest news is that the sale is expected to close later this year, marking the first time since the 1970s that Pizza Hut will not be owned by PepsiCo or Yum. A sad new chapter. (Just don't ask me how many Pizza Huts I've reviewed because I wasn't helping them much.) This now joins my growing collection of "firsts" that includes the first Starbucks in Seattle, the first Dunkin in Quincy, the first Timmy's in Hamilton and now the birthplace of the Hut. We found that was not the case, and this museum was one of the hidden gems. The quaint little self-serve museum sits on the Wichita State University campus grounds. The doors are unlocked at 9am. One you open the door, the lights automatically turn on, and you're free to roam! Keep in mind that this is a very tiny museum, but if you read everything and watch all of the TV segments, you could end up staying for 45 minutes tops.

It has an outdoor water table and splash pad larger than our own in Minnesota tamarack nature center. There are 2 sections of outdoor playground that had staircase for some slides too. Rocketship tower that you can climb. Some swings that are totally different than you are used too. Big spiderweb ropes climbing area was amazing too. Too bad rainstorm happened 30 minutes into our playtime but at least got to enjoy it.

We were made very welcome and even given a tour of the post the first day. We were introduced to everyone there and even bought a drink. I have now transferred my membership here and enjoying it there. There is a VFW Riders club which I enjoy and a Radio Club also.
