Fleischpflanzerl & spaetzle with a side of mustard
    Kimberly C.

What to say first....Let's start with the friendly faces that greet you as you enter this fabulous eatery. Every single person is as kind and helpful as the next. They are also kind to one another! You'll order at the counter by the menu board. They'll give you a number, ask if you're dining inside or out, and you find yourself some seating. Easy peasy. Oh, and if you fancy a beer, try the Veltins Pilsner --I typically do not even like beer, but this one goes down smooth! Next--the food. It's all delicious, but you'll definitely want try the goulash or bavarian fleischpflanzerl, whenever they run it as a special. And their spaetzle is, by far, the best I've ever tasted, which pairs beautifully with the jäegerschnitzel!!! Yum! Please do not forget to leave some room (or take home) for dessert. Bienenstich cake (bee sting cake) is filled with a splendid custard filling and topped with a layer of candied almonds. Pairs wonderfully with coffee. Join them for brunch on Sunday from 11-4pm and listen to some live music (not sure if they have it every Sunday?). The best omelet and kaiserschmarrn (big enough to split between two peeps!) And I've been able to find some of their events and specials listed on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/kantinebiergarten?igsh=c3V3a2ZqandmeDdn

Schnitzel Weiner Art, with buttered spätzle instead of potato salad.

This was a great find for a recent Saturday lunch. It was a warm day for April and it was pretty warm inside, but luckily we got a picnic table in the shade right out front. There seemed to be just one front of house person taking orders and pouring drinks, so there was a bit of a wait to order. They were unfortunately out of the cheese/onion spätzle so my fiance ordered currywurst instead. The rest of us ordered schnitzel with buttered spätzle. When the plates were set down, my finance immediately said he had plate envy. The schnitzels were huge and amazing. The buttered spätzle was the best I've had locally, both in texture and taste. The pork was pounded thin and fried but remained so tender and juicy. The currywurst was a bit of a let down for my finance. He said it seemed like regular wursts, with regular ketchup and some curry powder sprinkled on top. There was also not much ketchup. Maybe we are just used to Germany where they are swimming in a curry ketchup. The potatoes were great however. Overall, I would definitely recommend Kantine and hope to be back when they have the spätzle with onions and cheese.

The people here are very kind. I came in for Easter and they were short-staffed due to call outs. We reserved a table for Easter. The food was good and the drinks were poured heavy. I got the sweet pancakes which had nutella, bananas inside, and strawberry outside. They taste like crepes. The environment is family friendly. When you get drinks you have to individually pick them up, but they bring the food to you. I would definitely come back and try the Avocado Tomato Egg sandwich. I got to try some of it and it was great.

My wife and I went on an underground tour of Cincinnati and learned about the German beer making history of the city. One question I asked was - Is there a decent German restaurant left in town? The Guide recommended Kantine Biergarten and I am so glad he did. After the tour, we drove to the restaurant for lunch. Great schnitzel and great draft beer. I was so happy to finally find a good German restaurant to carry on the heritage of Cincinnati. We will definitely be back. I apologize to the owners for the picture of my food. But, maybe it is the highest compliment I can give,

Delicious German food & good beer tucked away in a quiet corner near Union Station. Indoor and outdoor seating. (Psst they have German Cake too)

This place was a fabulous place to host a birthday party!! The staff were accommodating and friendly. Everyone loved their food and had a great time. I highly recommend coming here for a private party or with a big group.

A warehouse converted into a cozy restaurant. Mostly German fare. Our group from the Y did a special Friday addition, so we could try the place. You place your order at the counter, and then they bring the food out to you. Everyone in the group liked their food.

What a hidden gem. Very unique atmosphere, seating inside and out. Seven of use went to lunch, you order at the counter and they deliver the food to your table. Between the 7 of use we had a bit of everything and it was very tasty. Not a real extensive menu but authentic German food along with a large array of German beer on tap

After a ride around town on the free Circulator electric streetcar (May 2026), we hopped off where we hopped on: just south of Jane's bar at Findlay Market, outside the Elm Street (west) end of the market. Jane's is actually run by the Market's non-profit "to connect farmers, producers, sellers and customers in a public marketplace" ! (Hmm. Does that mean my tip is deductible? :-) Several of us went for the draft local craft beers. One had a You Spaghettcha cocktail, a take on an Aperol Spritz named for Sonder You Betcha! and for Spagett, a character from an "Adult Swim" show! Made with that Sonder beer, Watershed Distillery Four Peel Gin, Aperol, and Citrus Cordial. Mighty refreshing. I had a pour of a local bourbon, New Riff Bottled in Bond, and it was delightful. Clean rye-spiciness over lightly-oaky caramel, and smooth for a four-year-old. We found shaded seating among probably 20 or more round red metal tables, with chairs that were really raucous when moved! The seats fill and empty in fits and spurts, and there"s a handful of backless stools at the bar, so if you wait a little, you'll find a place to sit. We dove back into the market for some freshly-made pierogis, and a to nearby bbq, too. And afterwards, we circled back to Maverick for delicious fresh-made artisanal chocolate to take home :-). Jane's bar is a relaxing oasis at Findlay Market, with a delicious selection of crafts, cocktails, and pours.

It was the sight of the activity at a dunking booth to raise money for Groundwork Cincinnati that drew me out. $5 got you three throws. Then there were two "the adult version of the ice cream truck" trucks that served a variety of beers. Next to each one was a ticket booth to exchange your cash for beverage tickets. On this hot day the beer line was constant. From the shade of the trees I had smelled the food of the food booths. My attention was drawn to one by Northside's own NYPD pizza where pizza by the slice was sold. At the end of the night they were selling whole pizzas at discount prices to get rid of what remained. One of my other favorites at the carnival was the dojo truck. For $5 you got 2 scoops of gelato. It was $4 for one scoop & $7 for 3. Families with blankets were sitting on the lawn. The children had activities including temporary tattoos and a wall for drawing on. But the really big draw was the live music. Wednesday night I went to hear the main stage band. This was a mistake. When they talked I could understand them but when they sang it hurt my ears. This explains why I heard their music blocks away. On the other hand when the next band came on at the small stage on the Blue Rock side of the park the volume was perfect and the music fun to hear. Thursday the Fourth this problem with the main stage was fixed. Come on out next year and enjoy our carnival. Hopefully it will be a little bit cooler and my daughter, son-in-law & grandson will not have to leave after only a few minutes due to the heat. Until next time be kind to each other. #northsiderock'nrollcarnival

I don't really have words to describe it. They only have one size pizza and, at first, I thought it was huge. However, the flavor was so amazing I kept wanting more. Hubs and I did a half and half pizza. His half was the Alms Park and my half was bacon and pineapple. I probably could have eaten a whole pizza by myself. The blend of cheeses and their sauce - so stinking good. We also got a house salad to split. Being that this was to go - they gave us the main salad in one container with their house made croutons in a separate container and their house made vinaigrette in a separate container - it keeps everything fresh and crisp! The croutons were so delicious and fresh! On top of that, the vinaigrette was amazing. We both fell in love with it. We walked in and ordered instead of placing online or calling. The service was AMAZING! We decided to wait in our car and they walked it out to us! They were amazingly friendly and wonderful. Their pizza isn't the cheapest pizza around but it was worth the money we spent. This won't be an every week visit, but definitely a new favorite. While this location is carry-out only, it was very welcoming. They also sell bottles of wine and had signs talking about them. It was a very neat little local place.
