My insurance agent was bought out by Kaplansky so got them by default. Never received notice or contact from them that they were my new agent . Only found out when I called my insurance company. When I called it was the most impersonal call I have had with a person ever. When I told the person I did not like the system they hung up on me. The customer service from an Agent Theresa whom I was connected to when I called MAPFRE insurance to speak with my agent who is on vacation. I called to review my upcoming policy renewal. I was transferred to the above person. I inquired about my insurance policy increase. I was informed that people call all the time regarding the increase cost of their policies. The agent proceeded to talk to me as if she was upset. I inquired how they go about getting the new rates. The agent informed me that they have various ways. When I inquired if rates for customers who have not had accidents and vehicles that are garaged with low mileage are rated. She was very condescending and spoke to me as if I was a child. I asked her several times to please try to understand that I just wanted to know how and why my rate was approaching 3000 dollars. She was rude and informed me that her coworker was listening. She was terrible and at the end informed me that she would review my policy and call me back and hung up. Customer Service appears to be a thing of the past. My husband was in complete shock at this agents behavior. I tried to explain to the agent that I just wanted know how and why my rates went up to almost 3000. I have been with Kaplansky and this office for decades. They are without doubt client focused and very responsive to client needs. In a time of everything going corporatized and faceless agencies , Kaplansky Brookline still has an old school and neighborhood approach to doing business. Yes, they will take phone calls but you may have to wait as the receptionist tends to have you hang on because they are attentive to other customers. I had a horrible experience with Donna Dietzal as my agent -- I was told an initial premium cost and that I would get an additional discount if I paid it in full. A month later I get a bill and see my premium increased by $1500 without any notification. After calling Donna, she says it was due to my nondisclosure of two accidents -- which I have EMAILED PROOF of sending to her. She tried to gaslight me and said I never told her despite me reading the email exchange word for word. So it was either gross incompetence on her part or fraud, either way I would hesitate to do business with this company. I found coverage for $1400 less doing it myself online. I have no proof of this next incident, but I had illegal charges on my debit card a few days after emailing her my debit card information. I have since cancelled it. I tried to get a quote for a 501c7 organization I am a member of; we happen to know another organization in the exact same situation that we are the referred us to Kaplansky (which is where they get their insurance), so this should have been *really* easy for Kaplansky to do. I emailed them all the information that they should have needed. I talked to Nancy Healy, who obviously didn't read the emails fully, or has reading comprehension issues. When I talked to her, she was combative; she said I gave her the wrong phone number for myself in an email, where I clearly did in fact not give any phone number, but did give full contact information for the other organization that did have a phone number, so she could look up their record. When I asked her about looking up the other organization on the phone, she said that she "wasn't going to waste time analyzing another organization's insurance". She also was insistent that I give her a person's name that "would never change" to be on the insurance. Is this possible with any corporation? Officers change over time as the normal course of business. She then was insistent that the insurance be in the name of the organization's president. This seemed totally ludicrous; a corporation is a legal person, and the bill gets paid by a department, not an individual. I mean what, is Apple's insurance in the name of Tim Cook? Does he get corporate car insurance bills? Would suggest looking elsewhere, esp. if you have a corporation that is something other than a sole proprietorship. I've had these guys as my insurance company for about 3 years now and have been quite pleased with them. Barbara has handled my account and just adjusted my premium. I moved to a high premium city and she found a way to get me a substantial discount after I asked her to look into a solution to this problem. She delivered! The worst service I have ever had. Over three weeks of me being prompt and dealing with them, I got 3 automated email returns stating they will be out of the office for a number of days. I am not sure how a company can allow this many vacations. Didn't process the claim check. It took over 4 weeks for it to be processed after the adjusters were very quick and efficient. Also continued to pull money out of my account after I had cancelled my policy. Over all terrible company and horrible customer service. read more

I submitted two requests for quotes online. No response even though one is promised within 24 hours of receipt. I called this office and the one in Weymouth, said I was looking for a quote for multiple policies (4), and was told a representative would get back to me shortly. Several weeks later and no one has called. Business must be so good they don't need to even provide me with a courtesy call. Unprofessional and bad business. Very helpful group! I moved from out-of-state and had to transfer my car ownership and register the car. They helped me through the whole process, and they also did everything to get me discounts on my insurance. If you're transferring the registration from out-of-state, they can also immediately get you plates (no extra trip to the DMV), for a fee. read more

I have had the same nightmare as Daniel dealing with Nancy Healy. She is extremely incompetent and not aware or knowledgable when it comes to writing insurance policies for businesses. She skipped emails and claims she never saw them. She filled out extremely important busines applications that were going directly to state officials incorrecctly giving my company a bad name and reputation. She also thought to fill out an application with my personal name instead of my company name. I brought this issue to the owner and he didn't even have the decency to give me call and fix the problem. Please be very cautious before proceding with these people for your commercial and business needs! read more

I, too, have had difficulty with Kaplansky. I called for a workman's comp insurance quote and was told by one of the agents that it's a lot of paperwork, she couldn't get to it, and it wasn't worth her time because she had so much other work to do. I called back and spoke to a manager who refused to help and said Nancy was the only person who could give me the quote. He was completely unconcerned that she told me to take my business, elsewhere so I did. I just reviewed another insurance company that also told me it wasn't worth their time, so I get that workman's comp isn't very lucrative for these companies and that it's a lot of paperwork. However, I spoke with numerous other agents today that explained very politely that they either couldn't help me or that they require that I purchase other insurance along with the workman's comp. read more

I started my email exchange with one of the representatives at this branch last year, but decided not to pursue auto insurance at the time. I recently reached back out to the same rep, she was responsive and was able to work around my requirements which I liked. I came in to speak to the rep and she was working with other clients so instead I worked with another rep and she was able to help. I would have liked a faster process, but I see this is something out of the employees control since the office seems to be shortstaffed on most days.I called again because I had a question, they mentioned they were shortstaffed, and they were not too certain of the information they were giving me about the insurance. Not the best response, but I will say that this is by far the cheapest auto insurance I was quoted and I shopped around for a bit. read more

Just went to the brookline office for car insurance. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Peter was amazing - very patient and professional, but I also really appreciated his very personal approach to a complicated situation. I drove off with my new plates and a smile. He even removed my old plates and put on the new ones for me . I thought this would be more complicated and irritating, but Peter made it easy. Glad I ignored the bad reviews. Very unprofessional office. Not only are the employees incompetent, but the management lacks basic customer service skills. From misquoting the premium to not acknowledging their mistakes to being rude. They are too busy to read your emails and claim they don't have the information after you've sent it several times. I'm amazed that Kaplansky Brookline has received good reviews from others. It may be that my consistently poor experience is more a reflection of the Agent, Bill Healy, than the entire office. True story - Bill had 3 weeks to deliver a quote to me for an expiring master condo policy for my home. The policy was expiring because I had a claim from a frozen pipe the previous winter and, is typically, the existing insurer would not renew. I was assured by Bill that I would have multiple quotes well ahead of my expiration date. I called many times as the date got closer because he did not proactively reach out to me to give me a status update. I was so confused by the lack of responsiveness that I just asked him to be honest with me if they didn't want to work with me so I could have enough time to find a replacement agency. He assured me he would get me a quote in plenty of time. ONE day before my policy expired he emailed me a quote that was $3,500 MORE than a quote I received from another agency -DOUBLE the cost of the expiring policy. No exaggeration. Hours after he sent the email, he went on vacation. He never called me to follow-up, never told me he would be out of the office. I thought I was going crazy - how can a business treat its customers this way? read more
