This review is strictly for Cameron, our tour guide. He has set the bar for everyone else. I was amazed by his legitimate Aloha spirit (harder to come by than professed around the islands). He has the type of personality that I could see as a successful tv host on a discovery or nature channel type show. He offered a wealth of knowledge about the land, flora, fauna, history, and beliefs of Hawai'i. At every point he kept us safe, entertained, and informed. He has made Hawai'i my favorite of the islands. My only complaint about the tour has nothing to do with him, but with scheduling. I really didn't want to go to a hotel gift shop and would have preferred more time to swim or snorkel.
Went on an "elite" volcano hike bus tour with Scott and Crystal at the Volcano National Park. We had a small group with just the 4 of us and our tour guides so it was very cozy. We actually talked about true crime a lot so the conversation was fun, especially inside the very dark lava tube. They provided store brought wheat sandwiches, chips and water bottles from Costco. We were picked up from our hotel in Waikoloa even though they were in Hilo and dropped us off as well. Honestly, it wasn't very strenuous. About two 1-mile hikes on flat but rocky terrain, 2 lava tubes, and one 3-mile hike that had some uphill and downhill but you didn't need to be a marathon runner here. We stopped at the gift shops and visitor centers as well. Pretty relaxing honestly and we saw 2 rainbows. Overall, very wholesome tour of the Volcano National Park and wasn't time crunched like many other tours. Definitely took all day from 8am to about 7pm.
WE took the evening volcano tour which was an 8 hour tour. Phew! Andre was a great guide. He loves what he does and he loves the island. His knowledge of everything Hawaiian is remarkable. Take Noni fruit for example. He knew that it'stoo bitter to consume but if you get the capsules = great medicinal benefits. Hawaiians love to talk story. That was how he conducted the tour. Many stories.
Night volcano tour was amazing! The volcano is active and it was a beautiful experience. Our experience was made even better by our guides , Rich and Tiffany! They were so sweet, fun, and knowledgeable. Tiffany also had great recommendations about other places to visit. Thank you for showing us a great time!
Signed up for the ZIP and DIP experience. It was my first time here going zip-lining. Let's just say I was super scared at first but staff was super great. Ona, Brandon, and Ashley explained everything and assured us that it was safe and fun. Ten super stars for the staff!!!. Just had to follow the 3 simple rules: 1) refrain from touching gear 2) cannot hang upside down keep ankles safe 3) biggest rule is to have FUN!!! I rented the Go Pro feature $49 and they recorded your zip experience. I missed the white rope at the end of platform and had to be retrieved twice and Brandon was super nice and strong and helped me back on the platform. Super embarrassing but I got gorgeous views of the waterfalls and surrounding sceneries. There were a total of 8 zip lines ranging from baby short ones to the long ones. There was one where we raced each other and there was one where couples can hold hands. Plenty of photo opportunities. Just gotta remember to smile at all times and also be prepared for some booty shots as well. The most prettiest Zipline was # 4 where it overlooks a waterfall. I missed the white rope and slide backwards toward middle of the line and waited until Brandon saves me. But I got to savor the beautiful views of the waterfall. It was so peaceful. Love it!! Marcus our driver and tour guide picked me up from hotel and drove from Kona to Hilo through the middle of the Big Island. It was a nice ride to see the different climate zones on this Big Island. He educated us on the history of Hawaii and it's surrounding active volcanos and foliage. Got to see lots of eucalyptus trees, ferns, etc. st the site, I saw a few pretty peacocks and they were super cute. He's also a very good cook and gave us super tasty BBQ luncheon (chicken, ribs, coleslaw, pasta salad, and corn). There were options of drinks, beer, and champagne after your nice swim at their private waterfall. Overall, It was an AMAZING experience and I will definitely do it again! Hopefully I will get the same crew and this time I will be ready for photos instead of booty shots.
This was such an amazing experience, one thing on my bucket list was zip lining and this was for sure the place to do it at. From the beginning of getting picked up and the ride up to the top the driver was so knowledgeableabout the scenery, we even got to see baby pigs running around. Just know the ride up is a little rough it's through a dirt road so it can get pretty bumpy. The crew was super fun, made the whole experience enjoyable and fun all while keeping us safe. So keep in mind this side of the island gets a lot of rain, I made sure to bring a sweater just in case and sure enough it was dumping rain at certain times during the zip lining. But the perks of this is that you go faster on the lines and the waterfalls are crazy flowing, such a beautiful sight too see. There's a total of 8 zip lines and on the 4th one you get to stop and eat fruit or use the bathroom if needed. Bathrooms are super clean and there's plenty of benches to sit and relax on at the half point. Once done clean towels are given to wipe off and fresh cold water is served. They also have 3 stations your photos are taken when on the zip line that you can pick up at the drop off point. This place is a must try!
What an amazing Zip line adventure! First of all, we came from Kona to Hilo. We were LATE due to the fires even though we left with plenty of time. It still took us 3+ hours to get there. Mary at the check in was so kind as to get everything set up so that our 30 minute late arrival did not stop us from going on our zip line tour. Since we were leaving in a few days and the tours are booked up we would not have been able to go otherwise. Then we had a great driver that gave us fun facts and great spots to eat the entire drive up the mountain. Be prepared for a bumpy ride. Then there was the actual zipping! Wow! Our tour guides Nicole, Ona, and Emily were an awesome bunch. They really made us relax and have fun. They make you feel safe and gave us the best advice to get great views and pictures. I highly recommend taking this adventure tour with them.
Our tour guides name is Krystal and she was great (this review is only about the tour). We booked the star gazing tour with the impression that we'd be up at the top of Mauna Kea where the telescopes are. When I asked the question "how far up the mountain are we going" and Krystal said: "we're not going to the top"; the entire bus let out a sigh of disappointment. I think we were all expecting to go to the top and were collectively pretty bummed for the rest of the trip. We booked this because we were told and read that rental cars with 2 wheel drive aren't allowed beyond a specific point on the mountain and you either needed a rental car with 4 wheel drive or to go with a tour. Instead of going to the top, we pulled onto old saddle road and drive for about a mile or so until there was some room on the side of the road to pull over. Less the telescope and the tour guide Krystal I think we definitely could have done this on our own. Company provided the telescopes, sandwiches and snacks, and also coffee and coco (also provided jackets for those that didn't bring their own. Moral of the story, DO YOUR RESEARCH! We booked through Groupon and paid about $175 a head. Not sure what the price is through the tour company directly but we saw another tour company that takes you all the way to the top for $228 a head. If I had known the difference I would have paid the $228. Also would have appreciated the clarification on the groupon ad specifying that this tour takes place nowhere near the summit of Mauna Kea. Last thing, I know this review isn't the prettiest but have to give one last shout out to Krystal. She was very knowledgeable about Hilo, Hawaiian history, and the stars and definitely made sure to keep us entertained.
Do you like to get down and dirty? Looking for Adventure, with a capital A? Then Kapahokine Adventures is the place to go, located in Hilo Hawaii, they are amazing! We booked a Razor tour, on the fly and they were more than accommodating to get us going! Julie, our driver, talked great story on our trip up and down the mountain to the staging area. She put us in Jae and Va'a's capable hands and they took the best care of us! From getting us set up and ready to hit the trails it was quick and efficient. Once we got into our Razor and hitting the trails the fun was nonstop! Racing up muddy, slick hills and through deceptively deep puddles the mud was flying! We took time for a water and fruit break and then off for more mud! Had a blast in the best field of mud! Then off to the waterfall to clean up and back to home base. This Company Rocks!
Went with my family and my 6 year old. He was super excited to go until he had to go up the first bridge! It was the the worse, he cried bloody murder!!! Ona was so amazing and patient with him. It took nearly 25 minutes to get him to zip line down. She didn't give up on him, she tried everything she could and she went with him in all 8 zip lines. Our group was amazing and understanding and also cheered him on. He enjoyed it after the 3rd one. I appreciate that she didn't give up on him and we all got to enjoy the adventure. Beautiful views, everyone was so nice and it was a great time. Thank you Julie for the ride over and all the wonderful information you shared. And for our guides Jessie and Onah. Kent was our tour guide for the 12-hour Kilauea Hike & Flow Experience. We found the deal on Groupon and decided to book after reading all the good reviews. This is a must-do activity if you're at the Big Island. We stayed on the Kailua-Kona side, but Kent was kinda enough to pick us up at 7am in the morning and drive us to the Hilo side to start our tour. It was so amazing! Kent was so knowledgeable about the history and volcanoes, its was so fun. 12 hours flew by so fast. We went to the Kaumana Caves, Lava Tree State Park, Isaac Hale Park, Black Sands Beach, Launa Mua crater, Sulfur trails, & Volcano Winery. We hiked probably around 4-5 miles at most, and we did alot of driving and sight-seeing. My husband & I absolutely loved this excursion. We would book through this company again! :)
Amazing time!! My crew was Destiny, Jesse, Dishman & Ku'ulei. Great personalities along with some stunning views. The ziplines were smooth and the equipment was new. The tour was called Zipline Through Paradise, the name is accurate . The last 2 lines are long and absolutely beautiful taking you right over waterfalls . You guys all did a great job! Great driving Destiny, backseat is the best !
There are other zip line's out there but this is definitely the best! We did all 8 lines and there were several cool waterfalls and our guides were awesome too! Our driver to and from the area, Destiny, was hilarious and super fun. Also, our three guides in the photo attached were amazing too!! We would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Island.
We had sooooo much fun! Our tour guide was perfection, funny and knowledgeable and our small group of 13 for 12 hours was a blast, everyone got a long so well. Meals and snacks are included!We were on the full circle tour, which meant we started in Kona and went around the entire island, stopping at amazing destinations along the way, like a coffee farm, volcano national park, a mountain winery for lunch, waterfalls, gorgeous lookouts that just take you to another world. I am not a fan of mountain driving, so when I saw they did tours like this and someone could drive us, it was worth every penny. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! read more

If you want some adventure @bigisland, try out ziplining. Very good experience, you get to watch nature, trees waterfalls and experience the wind. The tour guide girls were amazing, bubbly and funny. They made the experience fun and amazing read more

This was definitely a highlight in our trip , what an amaizing experience this was , we are wimps and are not the dare devil type but this was worth tuckin it all in and just going for it , the peeps+ that worked here were awesome Emily , Craig and Tiffany made us all feel safe and showed us how fun it can be with confidence anf good humor . My husband and I joined the lava hike tour during our visit to Hawaii Island. Honestly, it was the highlight of our trip. It was such a super cool experience and our tour guide, Grant, was awesome! He was super smart and was full of information. The hike was pretty gnarly! I wouldn't recommend it for people who are not physically fit. But if you're fit and adventurous, it's definitely worth it! The tour comes with lunch (sandwich and chips), and also a bbq dinner. The tour is a full day so be prepared to spend the entire day in the van or outdoors. I have to say it was worth it! read more

Went zip lining today during torrential downpour and it was one of the best experiences of my life!! Initially, my boyfriend and I were concerned about the weather due to the incoming hurricane, but we soon realized how amazing it could be to do this in the rain! You actually zip faster and see some incredible waterfalls! But honestly the most wonderful part of the experience aside from the obvious zipping, was how safe we felt because of our awesome tour guides. Ona, Jess and Nicole were experts who made us all feel comfortable and reassured. More so than that, they were super friendly, fun, easy to talk to, and so positive. I could've hung out with them all day. They clearly know what they are doing and also know how to make a group have a blast together. I recommend this experience ten-fold. I'd go again and again. All of the guides are exceptional, but if you get Ona, Jess and Nicole, you'll be very lucky!! If I'm ever back on the Big Island, I am paying them a visit again! read more

This review is for the zip line. We first registered at the KapohoKine office at the Grand Naniloa Hotel. Then we boarded a passenger van and travel to the destination. The driver had told us all the story and made the trip very entertaining. While going up the hill the road was very bumpy. The zip line guide Grey and Dash had been very helpful. There were all together nine line, some of them short, some of them very long and travel through the valley. It was quite scary for the first step and I had pull the rope too hard and my arm was sore. It was totally not necessary to hold the rope at all. When the line was long, the line would not be strict because of gravity. There would be a brake near the end of the line. Passenger would have to get a rope near the brake so the line guide could pull up the passenger. My wife did not catch the rope so she fall back and stuck in the line. A guy had to slide down to pull her back. At a moment she was hanging several hundred feet above ground. I considered that extra entertainment at no addition charge. At about half way of the adventure we had a break and had water, complementary Longan and crack it yourself Macadamia nuts. I enjoy those very much. I am glad I was there. I recommend you not to bring drinks or food becauce you have to carry it with you during the whole trip. Just leave it in your car. Wear a glove so you will be more comfortable while catching the rope. read more

INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!! My husband and I did this tour today and it was absolutely amazing! From start to finish this is one of the best experiences we've had during a vacation. The views from the zip lines are some of the most beautiful views I've seen on the island. It's clear that safety comes first which is obviously very appreciated. Our tour guides Paulina, Kali, Mahea, and Destiny were the best! These ladies seriously rock!! Very informative, super funny, and extremely efficient. Great way to spend an afternoon or morning in Hilo experiencing the true zip line adventure. There are 7 lines with the last one being almost 1 minute. All lines have excellent views of the valley and some waterfalls. Awesome guides and drivers. At first I was nervous as I'm not a huge fan of heights but this was so safe and the guide were excellent. Don't pass this up if you're a first of heights. read more

We booked this tour at a kiosk over in Kona at my husband's request! I figured if he allowed me to do the Ironman triathlon I could give him a UTV tour ;) They bring you from their location in Hilo to their stunning property which as a bonus has mac nut trees, cattle, and many varieties of fruit. The property is in a hill and and offers beautiful views. You can see the people on the zip line at some points and you even stop at a sheltered pavilion to look at a beautiful waterfall and eat fresh picked fruit. We loved our tour guides - Imi, Mana, Meliana, and Jae, our van driver. They all had amazing personalities and recommendations and made the excursion so fun. We hope to come back to Kona and plan to do their zip line excursion next. Mahalo! read more

Fun times at KopohoKine! Hit the ATV trails with a group of 11. Shea was a great guide. Had a great time sliding around the mud and cruising through thee countryside. Word of advice, bring a change of clothes and wear some clothes you don't care much about. You'll be covered in mud by the end, but it's all part of the fun! This was definitely worth the drive from Kona to come here for the ATV riding. Our driver Tiffany was amazing and she kept it coming with all the jokes! This Zipline was by far the easiest and majestic scenery I've done. Awesome for those who dont like rigorous hikes and stairs. I would definitely recommend to do this tour. What I am very impressed about is this company is known and loved by their community. Their names are on the radio, tv, social media, posters and magazines. They are very tied to the community. They also dedicate a whole day to the community to Zip for the cost of 1 can-good per person. AWESOME way ti give back. Wanna give a shout out to our guides Kendal and Waylen of Kapohokine! We did the zipline tour and it far surpassed our expectations. All of the staff was wonderful and paid attention to the details. Our driver that drove us to the site for the hotel gave tour guide facts. Our zipline crew was hilarious with wonderful personalities. Even our group of fellow travelers were really nice and fun. Don't hesitate to book, these guys are awesome and the actual course was long and amazing! It took about 5 hours start to finish. read more

KapohoKine Adventures is located at the Grand Naniloa Hotel by Hilton! Win-Win for us since we booked both separately and had no idea they were at the same location! We took the Lava Expedition tour with Jesse as our guide and he made our adventure a really amazing experience!! Jesse is lively and very knowledgeable (the brudduh born & raised Hilo! Best kine guide, yeah?!). You can tell he is passionate and appreciative of his native land, culture and tradition as he expresses the legends of Hawaii and the cultural aspect as intricately possible. He made our tour a fun one educating us on the how, what, and why. The agriculture, geography, and the abundance of the land he calls home. As we started our tour, Jesse introduced himself and the other guests participating in our tour, he ensured he got our orders and supplies ready and packed up for us before departing. Informed us of other parties who will be joining us and how he plans to tackle our agenda. He went the extra mile to accommodate our keiki riders and our elders...now that's a true sign of islander respect. When it was time to head to the winery for our BBQ dinner, Jesse called the owner to assist our vegetarians on our tour and Dale was incredibly accommodating in such short notice! The Volcano Winery was very nice and welcoming! The owners Dale and his wife along with Becky who grilled an amazing BBQ dinner for us and Loretta who poured our wine during wine tasting were very friendly and bubbly! They made our winery dinner and tour a spectacular experience! Bask in all of Hilo's treasures! We plan to come back again! Thank you KapohoKine for an amazing time! We had the best day with Tiffany, Deven and the team! This was our first time zip lining and we loved it! The team was incredible. It was fun, beautiful, well run and safe. Our seven year old was nervous at first and Tiffany was great with her - patient, excited and encouraging. She even got her to go on her own and now she's begging to go back. Check in was a breeze with the friendliest, most patient person imaginable. Our driver, Julie(?), gave us tips on where to go in Hilo and we ended up with yummy food and swimming with turtles. Definitely an experience we will talk about for a long time! read more

Our first trip to the Big Island and decided to try the Zip-Line adventure. The entire experience from checking in, the tour guide, and the Zip-Line instructors was AMAZING! Special shout out to Ray, Pauline, Brandon, and Jesse - definitely know what they're doing (and have a ton of fun doing it) and made the experience so much better! The views of the island and the waterfalls were beautiful, love that they have photo opportunities - would do this again and again. Highly recommend! read more

What a breathtaking experience! With Kapohokine adventures , there are total 8 zipline and some of them goes very fast , zipline 4rth and 8th are the longest one and have the amazing view of waterfalls, rivers and a dense forest, tour guides Pauline,Dylan and I forgot the name of third one are so friendly and well trained ,we are impressed with their attention to safety, they have the gopro camera on rent we took one and the quality was quite good also they have some cameras attached on the bridges on zipline where you can take your pictures and can purchase them from their store after viewing it. One picture cost around $25 and more than Two is $45 ,driving through Banyan roads and jungle was an awesome experience.I and my husband loved this zipline tour and we would love to book them again in future. read more

We decided to go zip lining this time visiting the island and it was a great pick! We went on a beautiful clear day and we were able to see all around us. The staff was nice from check in, to our driver that gave us lots of tips, to the guys that helped us out on the zip line. I wish I can personally say thank you to everyone but I can only remember Kiata and Ike's name. They made sure everything was safe and secure, played some Beatles music, told us some fun facts of the island and they showed off their cool skills. My mom didn't want to zip line so she stayed behind with my daughter (she's only 3 and tiny) and they gave them the opportunity to walk the grounds below the zip lines and then hop on to the van to the end point. They even had a car seat for her which was great because the ride up to the zip lines is bumpy. Halfway through the trip they provided water and delicious fruit and nuts. They even helped us get out of our gear to use the restroom and to get back in the gear. They did plenty of regular checks on the gear, which relaxed my nerves. The views were amazing by the way, I took my cellphone out on the zips and was able to take photos and videos of my family and myself while gliding through the air. Definitely coming back to the big island on my next trip out to Hawaii just so I can bring my friends and family to zip line! read more

These guys were absolutely great! This was my first zip line adventure, and they knew how to put the newbies at ease. I took off screaming at the top of my lungs; not from fear, but from pure joy! Our driver, Nathan, had good tidbits about the area and Hilo in general. Can't remember our guides' names (except Anthony - he wanted to be sure he was mentioned by name!), but they were all more helpful than you could desire. read more

Was so happy to take the atv tour, had a great time and seen some amazing things. 1 dude even rolled his atv...opps. got to swim in the waterfall and jump off a small rock. Only negative thing was paid $90 extra each for 3 of us for bbq/waterfall. Didnt know waterfall was part of tour so basically $90 each for small plate of food was not worth it. Had the 2 best guides to bad I am so bad with names so i took their picture. read more

Our family of 3 from CA did the zip line on Friday. We met at the Grand Naniloa Hotel at Hilo. Driver to the zip line talked all the way there about herself, so we got bored. Would prefer to hear about the sceneries instead. Guides at the zip line were hard working and pros. Gytis gave us some information on the plants and another guy (see pic) gave us information on the peacocks. We appreciated that. Ona alleviated our group's fears of heights. These guys deserve more than 5 stars. Definitely the longest zip line and we have done several on different parts of the islands. We liked the option of having lunch delivered to us during our rest stop. I would highly recommend paying the extra $15 pp for fresh sandwiches, water, and chips. U will be hungry and will appreciate the cold food. One thing that I didn't get is the lack of information to tip our zip guides. I thought this was going to happen at the hotel. We were all generous to our undeserving driver but I felt that the zip guides were the ones who worked the hardest. Make sure to tip the zip guides b4 heading back to the bus. read more

Had such a good time with Paulina, Jesse, and Brandon! Extra tour on the bumpy drive up going past macademia nut trees, longan trees, cows and peacocks. Went over a huge waterfall, a couple rivers, and lush forests. First few lines warm you up for the big 3 at the end! Super safe and super fun. Check out Groupon for deals. Mahalo! read more
