Come to find out the second Expedia agent was eventually able to negotiate a full refund for me. Unfortunately, I did not receive any notification of the transaction (until the Kapohokine Adventures owner read my initial review and phoned me). Since the refund was made to my credit card I was completely unaware of it until the subsequent billing and phone call. Thus my initial review mischaracterizes the nature of the business and outcome of my particular experience. My apologies to Kapohokine Adventures for the misunderstanding. Great zip line through paradise. A family from 12-68 years old had a great time. The staff was awesome. Hayley was great with the kids. She turned the go pro on every time for my son. Alex and Pearl where great also. The views were incredible. Make sure you take an iPhone or go pro to get shots while on the zip line. Favorite adventure so far! Safety was never an issue. We did the Volcano Hike tour December 2019, and it was an amazing experience! Our tour guide's name was Henry, and he made the experience both informative and fun. We had a small, intimate group, and we were able to ask a lot of questions. Henry gave us a ton of information on the history and science of the volcano and recent eruptions. The tour was an all day experience, but it is worth it. We saw recent lava flows, a new black sand beach, the steam vents, and the crater, and we actually hiked to the caldera floor! Picnic lunch and BBQ dinners are provided, and they were both pretty good. The wine is OK, but you have to remember that Hawaii isn't known for their wines. I'm so glad we did this tour, and I highly recommend it and our guide Henry! read more

I am right there with all the reviews of the Lava Tour. 12 hours. I would say that 10 of them were spent driving. Fast. On dangerous roads. At night. In the rain. That was the end of our tour. Our driver's headset went out one hour into the tour, so in spite of stopping at two different locations that belonged to the tour, one to get food for the dinner and one to sell us stuff, that wasn't fixed. So no information about anything to us folks jammed in the back of the van. The Hawaii Volcanoes Nat'l Park was great. Except we spent all of 20 minutes there and had no time to check out the excellent Jaggar Museum. Our trip to the macadamia nut farm was another opportunity to sell us stuff. We did eat dinner there. It was tasty. We left there when it was getting dark. We got to stagger with flashlights for about 1/2 mile in the middle of lava fields to the black sand beach. Touched the sand. Whee. Then on to the lava flow. I do, indeed, understand that there is no guarantee of seeing much do to present dangers. We walked, again with flashlights, on asphalt this time, 1/2 mile again, to see a red glow 1 1/2 mile away with steam from where the present flow hits the ocean. If we REEEAAALLY strained, we could see this, I'm sure, remarkable spectacle. Then off to the van for the trip back. I truly did not think we would survive this due to the road conditions and the, to my mind, speed the driver used. My daughter said she didn't care how fast he went, she just wanted to get it over with. All in all, a truly bad tour. Truly. Gathering up brochures and renting a car is the way to see things. The best day we had was doing just that. read more

-- Terrified About Heights Person. -- I would like to share with you my experience with this company & this zip-line tour. My brother booked the zip-lining tour for yesterday AM for 4 family members. Myself, I am the person that is utterly terrified of heights; my knees start to shake when I see how far down a cliff drops. While being driven to the starting point, I my anxiety starts to kick in. I have seen posted videos of the tour and started to get nervous thinking to myself, "That is a long way down" or "That is high." Once we get to starting point, we are asked to take a seat and wait for our guides. Equipment is ready at our feet. A couple minutes later our guides appear and introduce themselves to us, Tiare, Sam, and Ally. These guides are AMAZING!!!! They discussed with us safety protocol and important information necessary for the tour. But what makes these guides amazing is that they talked to us like we were long-time friends, yet, this was the first time we had all met. Because of this and their first two zip-lines (first two zip-lines are moderately high off the ground compared to the rest of the tour), my fear in heights started to slowly started to fade. Once I trusted my gear and my guides (happened after the 2nd zip-line), the entire tour was AWESOME, AMAZING, AND BREATHTAKING. The entire experience was WONDERFUL from beginning to end. This was a great way to end our vacation. I may be still terrified of heights, but that did not stop this guy from enjoying this zip-line tour. Tiare, Sam, and Ally, you guides are DEFINITELY "The Dream Team." Thank you for helping me push thru my fear of heights and showing me how BREATHTAKING and WONDERFUL this zip-line tour is. For anyone that reads this post (fear of heights or not), ask for "The Dream Team" to guide you (Tiare, Sam, and Ally). On a side note, I CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN AND "ZIP-ON" AGAIN. read more

Zipline adventure review: Kudos to the entire staff!!! Warm and friendly welcome staff at the downtown Hilo store. They get everyone organized with multiple tours leaving around the same time. The staff did an awesome job accommodating my last minute request to "walk along" while my husband zipped. Safety first is evident in their paperwork, announcements, and redundant equipment checks. The platforms and gear all appeared to be in excellent condition. The staff also accommodated my husband's request to end his adventure after the fourth track. They couldn't have been nicer about the special arrangements. Back at the store at the end, the staff was downright sweet about writing up refunds for me when I didn't even ask. AND they make sure that no guest leaves without the assurance that they know where they are going next, with good directions. When they found out where we were planning to eat dinner in Hilo, they saved us the trip by pointing out that the restaurant was closed for remodeling. Not only did they give us suggestions for other places, they printed out maps AND how to return to Kona afterward. I just loved their personal interest in each guest. They take time to visit and learn just a little about you. Not too busy to be hospitable and genuine. So why only four stars? The van ride to the Zipline platforms and back to Hilo is nasty! The road is not just a rural unpaved road - might be better that way. The road is one deep pothole after another in a 20-25 minute spread of rocks, with many high humps of dirt. And the driver barely slows down. The drive didn't bother me; I considered it to be part of the adventure, the van itself had comfortable seats and was well air conditioned. I was never concerned about safety during the drive. But I don't believe that the rough ride is predictable for guests that would take this seriously. My husband can't stand riding in my old suv and I knew he was seething with every bump. I'm not sure if the road should be leveled out or if the advance information should be very clear about the severe rockiness of the drive. It's a farm road on which access is granted for the vans. I'm surprised that those vans aren't 4WD. And that the tires don't get replaced daily. Great staff! Great Zipline adventure! read more

Dishman, Ash-Leigh and Paulina were absolutely AMAZING!!!!! They are super funny, professional and put everyone's safety first at all times. I was pleasantly surprised that a tour was included. We got to see a macadamia farm on the way to the zip lines. The views from the ziplines were straight out of a magazine. I'm still speechless at how beautiful everything was. The colors and scenery were so vivid. I was one of the highlights to my trip. read more

This was a great experience!! It was my first time ever to zip line and I am so glad that I made the decision to do this. The experience was exhilarating and the views breathtaking. The guides were wonderful. There were three of them and each one was knowledgeable in terms of safety/zip lining and also entertaining as well. The only thing, was that we were told that there were going to be snacks and beverages provided during the experience, but we were only offered water. If I had known, would have packed a snack for my 10 year old. Even though, will still give a 5 star rating. read more

My husband and I did the Lava Hike and Glow tour. It was amazing!! :-) Glenn our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge - he shared stories of the gods, kept the kids in our group engrossed in what they were seeing, took us for an awesome hike across the crater floor and around the rim making sure everyone was enjoying the journey. His energy and love of learning was infectious :) I would highly recommend this to anybody interested in something more interactive then staring out the bus window. Throw in an awesome BBQ at Volcano Winery and a return to the park at sunset for seeing the glow from the volcano....a long day for sure but soooooo fabulous! read more

Talk about a zip line through paradise! They definitely have a reason for that name. Everyone here is wonderful! Beginning with the staff you see when you first arrive, to your driver taking you out to your paradise destination, and ending with your thorough instructors upon your arrival. We had an extra special request that needed to be fulfilled, and the instructors did everything perfectly! My now fiance proposed to me at the top of the very last and most gorgeous zip line yet!! Emily was so sweet and kind enough to record it for us on the sly. My fiance had given her a camera to "take our photo", but she recorded his entire proposal- including my very shocked and happy reaction! Thank you so much to Emily, Lono, and all the other instructors on the line with us, and those who helped get us suited up. All of the staff here are so friendly and very helpful with any questions you may have. It starts with a slightly bumpy ride that takes you to your paradise destination. Once you have received safety info and are suited up, you're ready to go. You zip line through all kinds of beautiful scenery including waterfalls, gulches, and the views are just breathtaking! Ziplining was incredible fun for my wife and me. Typically she is not so keen on heights and surprised me when she agreed to book a tour. She had a great time and wants to do it again sometime. We rented the Hero HD helmet cams and were pleasantly surprised to receive the microSD cards with our videos. Now we can watch them on the iPad and relive each line of the course, from each perspective. Our family went on the volcano tour with our great guide Zane. We went to Kona Joes and were informed about how the coffee Is prepared for market. We had tastes of different Kona coffees as well as chocolate covered coffee beans which are delicious. We were served a deli lunch while overlooking coffee orchards and ocean. Went to a Hawaiian bakery that had samples and pastries to buy. We then went to the black sand beach where we saw a sea turtle sunning in the sand. We also went to the Thurston lava tubes and saw active and inactive volcanoes. We had a good dinner at the volcano house. We went to the Jäger museum and saw the glow of Kilauea at night. We also saw the steam vents earlier in the day. On the way back to the hotel we stopped near Mauna Kea to see the stars at night which was great. Zane was very knowledgeable about geology so he could explain the technical aspects of volcanoes. The best part was that I didn't have to do the long drive and could enjoy the trip! We went on the "Volcano By Night" adventure with Grant, our awesome guide. Don't let the title fool you, it's more than a "night" adventure. Grant picked us up at the King Kemehameha Marriott in Kona at 10:00 AM. We made several fun stops, including lunch, on our way to Kilauea. When we got to Kilauea, Grant took us on several adventures at the volcano before dinner at 5:00. Then more exploring including watching the volcano erupt at night. Grant was fantastic! His knowledge was exceptional about Kilauea and all the volcanic activity of Hawaii plus Hawaiian culture and even coffee making when he took us on a tour of the Kona Joe Coffee Farm. The adventure took about 11-12 hours and does involve some mild hiking. read more

Zip & Dip- Where do I begin with this amazing experience. My family & I live in Kona & have never done a zip line. I'm a concierge & was recommended to go with Kapohokine by colleagues & guests alike. I can say I was not disappointed by any means. Our guides Destiny, Shelby & Lono are quite the team and helped ease all of us into becoming comfortable & completely forgetting any fear we initially walked in with. We really appreciated the humor & making us feel like we were family. None of that "yes sir, yes ma'am" nonsense. Adam, who drove us to the site, was wonderful, funny & quite knowledgeable about the Hilo area. Ori, (I apologize if I'm spelling this wrong) concluded our trip at their waterfall/BBQ area that we were allowed to swim in & enjoy an exceptional lunch overlooking said waterfall.
