I think another had a 3D printer. I appreciated that the children area was on the other side of the library than the fiction stacks with a big separation from the two. Near the front circulation desk was a shelf holding new books and "lucky day" books, which is always my first stop in the library. I love the idea of "lucky day" books: high demand titles with long wait times. If you see it on the shelf, it's your lucky day, and available for immediate check out. Towards the back of the library there were extremely comfortable chairs that overlooked a bike bath / wooded area / and a glimpse of a small pond/lake. It was really peaceful looking out the floor to ceiling windows at the scenery.

Such a nice little library--I often do not have anything to do to kill a lunch hour over in the…read morehood so I stroll into the library and soak up some sunshine over by the big wall of windows while browsing unusual magazine that I would not normally know about and some that I already love but now do not have to purchase at the grocery store. If I see something interesting like a recipe or product I can quickly snap a picture on my phone too so no longer do you have to sneak and tear out the pages of a magazine that is not yours. They have a very large selection of current movies and books on display. I also noticed that they have such a wonderful area for little ones to crawl, climb, explore and learn the love of books. The library is absolutely fabulous and FREE!!!!!

From the outside it looks massive, so when you walk in it can feel a bit more compact than expected, but that is because there are so many different rooms and dedicated spaces instead of one large open area. Each section feels purposeful, which I really liked. The staff were all very kind, and there is a lot more here than just books. There are separate areas for magazines, media, and reading spaces, along with a makerspace that includes things like a 3D printer, a laser engraver, and other equipment that would normally be very expensive to access. Having that available for free is a huge plus. The building itself is beautiful, with a lot of marble and multiple floors that make it feel historic and well maintained. It is a great place to study or just spend some time, and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are ever in St. Paul.

Waitstaff circulated with hors d'oeuvres as we waited in the receiving line, keeping everyone engaged. I loved the library theme, from the Save The Date library book cards to the tables identified by famous authors. We were seated at Dickens, our dinner preferences printed out on beautiful bookmarks. The three-story ceilings are reached by massive bookshelves with upstairs hallways for reaching those high books. The flowers were gorgeous and organic and the catered food was delicious from salad to dessert. It's not an inexpensive venue, but it is warm and intimate once you get here. We ran into detours, slow trains, and closed roads so we had our Uber let us out about a 1/4 mile away because we were about to be late. We literally made it in as the ceremony started. Road construction, closed roads, detours, and slow freight trains don't show up on your travel map!

Using it as a meeting space wasn't the greatest, since the speakers had power point presentations with lots of writing, and because the seating had to be deep and narrow, it was hard for those in the back. As a stop to see something beautiful--it's a must if you're in this city.

The library is always super clean and well organized with an extremely friendly staff. The library has a couple of rooms that are always hosting different events and hands on activities. There is something available for all ages which I really appreciate whether that is books, audio books, dvds, video game rental, computer usage or community resources. The doors to get in were also confusing as I was cutting through the players crossing from the locker rooms. The gym itself is pretty small. The floor was extremely slippery as well. The players were sliding and falling all over the place. Not sure if the one person working the door was a staff or volunteer but they were extremely slow at getting people in. Waited a couple minutes for them to count out $15 in change (as it was $5 to get in). Also some people weren't aware it was cash only so that caused some hold up. Also once inside it doesn't have clear signage letting you know where the bathrooms are (upstairs).

First the good... I…read moreearned my bachelor's degree via a distance learning program that fit into my full-time work schedule. After moving to Minneapolis, and being temporarily unemployed, I started looking for a college that offered a paralegal program with a reputable program and flexible night classes. Inver Hills had it. The paralegal program is taught by practicing attorneys, public defenders, etc. I feel like I am getting real-life experience and these instructors know their stuff! The campus is conveniently located, easy to navigate and the people working there are helpful and easily accessible. Besides the flexible schedule and easy certificate requirements (for paralegal), they are CHEAP. But, you get what you pay for, which leads me to the critique... I've worked with many corporate and private attorneys in my career and none of them were deliberately vague, inconsistent or careless. If you are working in a law firm or a corporation an attorney knows they are the ones ultimately liable if something goes wrong as the result of their lack of instruction, in this college setting however, some instructors grade on a whim because it's only the student's grade that suffers. Some instructors thrive on "gotcha" teaching, casually mentioning something in class then later severely deducting points by saying, "I said so..." Sometimes it was said, sometimes it wasn't (I think they get confused as to what they say from one class to the next). And it doesn't matter if every student backs you up that a particular instruction was never given. Some instructors don't grade thoroughly or consistently. Half a class might have points deducted for using proper punctuation simply because the instructor personally doesn't like it, regardless of MLA or Strunk & White standards. Be prepared to find the other half of students had the same issue over-looked. I chose to go to school to learn and be INSTRUCTED and not to have instructors play mind games with me. Finally, be careful if you are using financial aid, they are extremely disorganized. I was using financial aid when I was informed I was going to be dropped because of a balance from the previous semester. Waiting 6+ months to tell me my financial aid for that year had run out is beyond ridiculous. Telling me 2 days into the next semester? How can you take an institution seriously? Then I was told because I qualified for financial aid for the current year I could use the refund amount to pay off the previous semester and that I wouldn't be dropped from classes. By the end of the week, guess what happened? Yup, dropped. I also wasn't notified of that, I had to figure it out on my own. But they did give me a 12-hour window to pay the balance and get re-enrolled. So generous. I can't decide if I want to re-enroll or if I've been jerked around enough by this school and finish this certificate elsewhere. Ugh...they're just so CHEAP.

The library has been renovated significantly since I used to be an AmeriCorps volunteer 10+ years ago. It's been redesigned with the new needs of the community in mind. There are small group rooms that are usually available to check out for two hours. There is a large community room for nonprofit groups to use. It can get loud in the afternoons after school lets out and all the kids come in. It ranges from chatty teenagers, to video game playing boys, to shrieking toddlers. I'm pretty tolerant of it because libraries are no longer places of perfect silence -- now they are centers for the community to convene and for people to get resources. However, they do have a silent room for those who want that tranquility. The librarians are pretty cool. They do their job and so much more. They also function as aunties and uncles to the kids -- they can be encouraging, patient, kind, and sometimes firm -- when the kids need to behave. They have cool classes available. I took a half-day microsoft excel class there from a young americorps technology volunteer. I'd recommend you visit the library to see all the options. Also, their Lucky Day DVD collection is pretty competitive with the latest Red Box rental options. Here I was wasting $3 on a renting the latest dvd when I could've just gotten it free. I wish they had an earlier start time. I've wasted time because I forgot they don't open til 10am or in one case -- they closed for staff training. But hey.

This library got me through so many hours of childhood and growing up. We went there for puppet…read moreshows and many children's story times, and I loved it. Their children's section is great, with seating and windows so you can read with your family. I spent so many hours just browsing through and reading books there as a kid, and with the new renovations they're even better. There are plenty of computer workstations to use if you need to work someplace. There's a lovely windowed quiet study area so you can really focus while enjoying the atmosphere of the library. There is an outdoor patio which is useful in the warmer months. There's a playground just outside for kids to burn off energy after reading a while, too, which was great when I was growing up! There is plenty of music selection and book selection too, as well as community events. Bus lines go right nearby at the Sun Ray shopping center, where you can stop and do some errands before or after grabbing some books to read.
