I have been a patient of Dr Kappelman for over two years now and couldn't be happier with the care and support I receive from Dr Kappleman and her staff.. A year ago, during a routine checkup Dr Kappleman said to me that she wanted to biopsy a very small mark below my left ear... during this appointment l told her that was leaving for Florida in a few days... On the very day that we left for Florida driving, Dr Kappleman called me and said that what she expected was true ... that small mark ended up being melanoma... I responded with l will check back with you when l get back home in two months.., Dr Kappleman said, " No it doesn't work that way. You need to be seen immediately!" She then said that she remembered that l was going to Sarasota so she looked up a dermatologist there and made an appointment for me later that week. The dermatologist in Sarasota cut away the melanoma and upon my follow up said to me " l am very impressed your doctor picked this up at this early stage." I called to make an appointment. The phone basically told me to talk to them through text. I refused and waited on the line for a human. Eleven minutes passed and the phone hung up on me. I then called right back and did the text appointment option. Mind you I am a brand new patient trying to make an initial exam appointment. I sent the text. I got a reply from I believe AI. I explained what I needed to the AI via text ( unusual at best). I initially thought humans would answer. 48 hours later, NO REPLY. So I sent a text, "NO wonder you have such bad reviews, it's been 48 hours since I asked for a callback. This all happened on Monday. Today is Friday. This office doesn't care AT ALL in the least if you called, left a message or want to make an appointment. That's my opinion and I haven't stepped foot in the office nor spoken with a human!! I am a retired physician who had a skin lesion that was badly managed by Dr Kappelman's office. The PA who evaluated me, did the initial biopsy, and then the excision was technically competant, however she exercised poor clinical judgement in the direction of an extremely aggressive approach to treatment, which resulted in an office operation that removed a large chunk of totally normal skin, and took 8 sutures to close. My case had the dermatologist's attention for only the 15 seconds she came into the room to give the nod for the surgery. Whether she looked at or paid any attention to the "lesion" itself is questionable. A shave biopsy had been taken on the very small area of skin on my first visit there. It showed a very low-grade type of basal cell carcinoma....something that was even less likely to be a problem than the standard type of basal cell. Twice before the actual surgery, I suggested directly to the PA that she was being overly aggressive, ie employing an "overkill" approach. That had no effect on her thinking or management plan. When I sat on the table the day of surgery, the PA and the Dr were looking at no lesion, only scar tissue. There was no visible tumor. It had been removed by the original shaving. This was verified because the pathology report from the skin they removed confirmed it. It revealed that there was no tumor there, just normal skin and some scar tissue healing at the location of the original shave biopsy. Yet they proceeded with surgery on my normal arm. The proper management of this would have been to postpone the surgery for 3-6 months and see if anything grew back. That would have saved me from an unnecessary surgery and its related significant expense. I wrote a detailed complaint accusing them of poor clinical judgement and an overly aggressive approach to my treatment, including my concern that their attitude would negatively affect other patients as well. I did hear back from the doctor who denied there was any problem with how it was handled. Decide for yourself whether undergoing surgery for removal of normal skin was a good outcome. I strongly recommend that you avoid this office. read more

They won't check the insurance policy for you, so if you are out-of-network, they won't notify you, and suddenly you get charged an a absurd amount of money. Good luck with trying to call back and resolve the issue; nothing will be resolved. They will just throw out some lazy "according to policy..., it is the patient's responsibility" and point fingers at another party. read more

Such poor customer service, it is simply crazy considering how many dermatology practices I drive past to get to Dr. Kappelman. The Reception team is simply not helpful and borderline rude. The Scheduling Team seems incapable of returning calls/messages - called 3 times without a return call. Not sure if Dr. Kappelman is aware of how her staff conducts themselves. That said, I found another dermatology group that actually returns calls and speak to their patient's with respect. read more

This place sucks. I scheduled an appointment for last month on Zocdoc and then the day of the appointment. They called me and told me they would have to cancel my appointment last minute then rescheduled and gave todays date. I gave them another chance which was for today and because I was running late I had to reschedule my appointment once again. I was running 10 minutes late which was because of work. The staff was very rude and monotone and did not care about my condition. I would not recommend coming to this place. There are many other options. I saw the reviews on the doctor being great. But it is not worth your time. Needless to say the next available appointment wouldn't be until October. It is currently July. The situation could have been handled better, I was diagnosed previously with DYSHIDROTIC ECZEMA and was looking for relief. read more

Dr. Kappelman and team are awesome. One of my kiddos had an issue and the team was beyond patient with us. She was stressed and beyond the normal everyday patient but the issue was resolved. Highly recommend for all dermatology needs in the future and you should as well. read more

Everyone was pleasant, but that doesn't make up for the fact that I spent $500 on 2 visits for laser to remove some brown spots and the results were non-existent. One spot got a lighter dot in the middle and the others did nothing. I was told from people experiencing laser that the areas should crust and/or flake, and none of my spots did anything. No peeling, no flaking and only a small dot circle in the middle of one spot. This was a major waste of $500! I use a professional daily routine, and avoid the sun. I have done many peels, etc. My cousin had laser done in FL and her spots crusted then the dark parts vanished. Do NOT waste your money going here for laser. read more

I wouldn't go there again. The lady at the front desk (she sat on the right facing me) was so incredibly rude. I had forgotten a question I wanted to ask the Dr and she told me that both the Dr and Nurse were busy but she could take a message for the Dr. I asked for some information about the quite expensive vitamins the Dr had said might help me. The front desk lady made an audible noise because she had to get up and go around the corner to search out the information. She handed it to me over the counter and I was looking at it. She loudly said....I told you no one could talk to you and that I took a message. I said that I was just looking at the vitamin brochure and grabbed a chair in the corner. While there, I saw a placard for some different products and asked for info on them. That was a mistake. She said they didn't have any. I clarified that because I didn't understand why they would have a placard for products they didn't carry. I was sternly told that NO they didn't anything at all. I have no idea why...but I bought the stupid vitamins and got the heck out of there. I felt that I had been nothing but an inconvenience to her. And I felt like a big idiot walking to the elevator with $$$ vitamins. I still regret it. The Dr called me that evening and left me a voicemail saying she'd heard I was upset when I left. I thought that was awesome! I called and left her two messages but never heard from her. Perhaps she didn't get them. read more

I've been to 3 other dermatologists in my life and I have never had a thorough spot check. They looked at the one or two spots I asked about and sent me on my way. I went to Kappelman Dermatology today because I was concerned about a new spot on my face. I was given a head to toe spot check as well as a biopsy on the spot I was concerned about. I thought the staff was excellent. Everyone was pleasant and professional. They gave me a bookmark size handout that showed how to identify suspicious spots. They also gave me a card with written instructions for caring for the area where they removed the spot. I love being given written directions. Who can remember everything that doctors quickly tell you? I will definitely be returning to Kappelman Dermatology for my future dermatological needs. read more

Absolutely the rudest & very unprofessional looking & acting staff..Says a lot about the office! Could not even review the Dr. because we left due to Office staff sending us away stating we couldn't be seen, even though they had my husband entering his info in an iPad already & we WERE there on time for the first 2 & only 10min late(parking) for the second two. The whole office is great! I've always struggled with adult acne and Dr. Kappelman took the time to explain a couple different options to treat my acne. I also had a difficult time getting my insurance to cover my prescription. The MA was able to give me samples until my insurance covered the medication. I would recommend this office to anyone that wants a thorough exam with a very knowledgeable provider. read more

Best Dermo I've been to! I have been seeing a dermatologist since I was a kid. I have extremely pale skin and flat moles (Irish people!). I get checked yearly as there's a history of skin cancer in my family. Of all the dermo's i've been to (and it's a lot) Dr. Kappelman is the BEST! She knew exactly what needed to be done and what was wrong even before I did. She had great suggestions and didn't push any unnecessary products or services on me to make money. Couldn't recommend a better person to be responsible for my skin :) read more

I come from a long line of pale people with skin cancer all over the place, so it's really important to me to find a reputable dermatologist who knows their stuff and is easy to talk to. Dr. Kappelman is fantastic-- she takes the time to understand your specific concerns and medical history and helps you be proactive about monitoring your own skin. She also had a lot of helpful advice for me about keeping my skin looking youthful (since I'm approaching 30 and would rather head that nasty process off at the pass) and hydrated. I'm definitely going to continue seeing her-- she also does chemical peels, which is a bonus! read more

In all honesty, this place is horrific! I was in and out! The product this "dermatologist" prescribed for my skin made it worst! Its almost over a month and I am still healing from it. My skin was burning and I was in pain! I called this Doctor's office and I was told since it's a Friday she wasn't available but will contact me ASAP and she never did! It was a utter waste of time. She took less than 10 mins to see me, just to tell me that my skin was upset, that it will go away eventually by using different products. Well, it didn't. It was a bacterial rash that needed antibiotics. It was not anything rare what I had, so I wonder if she could have spent more time asking more questions I would have waited so long to be treated. Will never go back! I would rather pay more for an out of network doctor. They tell new patients to get there early, which I did and then had to wait 55 minutes past my appointment time. Never got to see the doctor, which I was not told, but her "assistant" which seems to be way too much of a newbie to be messing around with your face. I am extremely unhappy with the results. My child was seeing her monthly. All seemed just as well as any other derm. office. That is, until a bill came in higher than the norm. When I inquired why, I was told that it was because at that visit I asked her if she should treat a bump on my child's ear. She spent about 10 seconds saying no, it was a cyst and would go away on its own- then billed an extra $122 line item! The office would not adjust the billing. Needless to say, we will not be going back. Perhaps that sounds harsh, but if I can't discuss concerns with a dr. without worrying about being line itemed and nickeled and dimed to death, that is not the physician for my family. read more
