Nancy Ramsey, DVM has cared for my dog for over 2 years. She comes to your house, so you don't have…read moreto transport your pet anywhere! This is much better, since it's less time out of my school/work schedule. Nancy has everything she needs to do a check-up and minor procedures in the back of her truck. For minor surgeries (teeth cleaning) I take my pet to Winters, where she has a small office. For emergency services she recommends the UCD Vet School and an emergency vet place where she works sometimes. Cost: similar to a vet clinic, because she charges for the house call a similar mark-up as what you would be charged by a clinic that has rent costs to cover. Additional pets are discounted for the house call cost. Friendliness: (5 stars) Nancy is very friendly, calm, and very kind to my dog. My dog only likes her at the end of the visit, upon receiving a treat (to be expected, since no one likes a thermometer up their rear). Timeliness: (5 stars) Nancy has always arrived on time, so I've never had to wait for her. Also, she returns phone calls the same day I leave a message (I just let her know what time she should call me back). Convenience: (5 stars) No waiting in a vets' waiting room with someone else's sick/hyper/scared/barking animal. Also, no new environment (new floor, slippery examining table) for me and my pet to deal with, since we stay home.

When one of my dogs were seriously injured she went above and beyond then any other vet I've heard. She constantly touched bases with me to see my dog was doing. She lent me her shoulder when I cried. She is very honest about what your animal needs. Cost: She is very comparable to office vets. She comes to you if you want her to. Compassion: She really is gentle and patient with your pet. I can not say enough praises about Nancy. When I moved out of Winters, I still drive into town to see her and that's over an hour away. I'm not a weirdo about pets, but I trust her professional opinion and recommend her highly!

Over $1400 later and nothing was diagnosed or treated to the point she was better. Fast forward to today! My little Scooby had to be taken there. The staff were absolutely amazing, friendly caring and patient. Dr. Hilty listened, was informative, gave me several options for what was going on. I appreciated him and the staff. If in need again, I would return for any future medical emergency needs. They said they were trying to onboard specialized doctors to be onsite. That would be perfect for the area. Thank you Dr. Hilty and staff.

He came in…read moreafter suffering a traumatic body wall hernia following a fight that he started but definitely couldn't finish. As scary as the situation was, every member of the team treated us with compassion, kindness, and professionalism from the moment we walked through the door. They took the time to explain Leo's injuries, the surgery he needed, the possible complications, and the financial estimate. Even though we were terrified, we never felt rushed or left in the dark. The surgeon kept us updated, answered every question honestly, and made sure we understood exactly what was happening. During surgery, they found that Leo's intestines had protruded through the torn body wall and were very inflamed, but thankfully they were still healthy enough that they did not need to remove any of his intestines. They carefully checked for leakage, thoroughly cleaned the area because of the dog bite, and successfully repaired the body wall. We are so grateful for the skill and expertise that went into his care. What stood out just as much as their medical expertise was their compassion. Everyone treated Leo with such kindness, and they treated our family with the same care during one of the most stressful experiences we've ever been through. Today, Leo has made a full recovery and is completely back to his usual mischievous self. Our little "tough guy" has officially retired from picking fights with dogs many times his size, and we couldn't be more thankful that this team gave him that chance. They didn't just save our dog--they saved a beloved member of our family. They also saved my daughter's best friend. She would have been absolutely devastated if we had lost him, and because of this incredible team, she still gets to grow up with the little dog she loves so much. Thank you for giving our family more time with Leo. We will never forget your kindness, your honesty, and your incredible care. We recommend this hospital without hesitation. Five stars truly aren't enough.

They even had one of the doctors fix his teeth. They took really good care of him during that procedure. About 2 years ago the team started becoming real sticklers about the heart worm medication I gave him every month. It was a nuisance but I figured it was a safety precaution as they explained to me. Then when my fiancé moved in with his 2 pit mixes it became pretty ridiculous. This vet office had policies that are incredibly strict around prescribing heart worm medication. And with 2 medium sized dogs and a little, the price of these meds is WILD. I know this inflexibility around policy is not typical since I've asked folks about their vet experiences and found that some vets will have you sign paperwork that says you understand the risk of not getting them tested every year in order to ensure the dog can stay on the flea tick heart worm meds. This strictness was also very different than my experience at Redwood Vet Hospital in Vallejo. I give my dogs their heart worm medicine every single month without exception. I never miss a dose. This vet office isn't really willing to work with dog owners and seems more loyal to their policies & money than trying to mitigate health risks & disease in dogs. They don't believe their customers who tell them that we don't miss a dose. They don't care if you understand the risks they're describing for a possible missed dose. They will proceed to talk to you like your dumb. I've experienced both Dr. Kafka & Dr. Brandwajn talking down to either me or my partner (over the phone) about how we care for our dogs. I used to work at a dog daycare and I understand that many, many owners don't really know how to properly care for their dogs. I feel for vets and what they have to see and deal with. But the way business is conducted in this office is not the way to make it better. I haven't seen Heather in the office for a while, I'm not sure if she still works there but she was one of the office staff who didn't treat me like I didn't know what I was doing and even leveled with me and said that if money was an issue I can get my 3 dogs vaccinated at the monthly SPCA clinic. She seemed to understand that the safety of the dog should be the priority, but when we took our dogs back for their next checkup at A4P after taking them to the vaccine clinic we were treated as if we were lying about them having been vaccinated. The amount of hoops we have to jump through just to get our dogs access to flea tick & heart worm meds feels like a scam. We've brought our dogs in just for a simple heart worm test or cytopoint shot and been quoted $1000+ for a wild amount of additional tests they wanted to tack on. I do not feel like this vet is trustworthy or has my dogs best interests in mind. Our experience at the last two visits has finally convinced us to change vets. Which is sad because I really wanted to support this local business that isn't owned by private equity. Please enjoy pics of the goodest dogs in the world

This is something no one ever wants to do, but if we bring furbabies into our hearts and homes, we'll likely have to do it at some point. The last thing I wanted to do was to traumatize my terminally ill kitty with a car ride to a cold, sterile vet's office (no offense to any vets) like I've had to in the past. After doing research, Dr. Noe was reasonably priced (although that's not necessarily super important in these situations), quick to respond, professional, and compassionate. She clearly explained what would be happening and allowed us to set the pace. Nothing happened until we were ready - including our final goodbye. Even better, when it was finally time to leave, Frankie was placed into a basket and tucked in with a blanket he would've loved. His passing was peaceful, respectful and surrounded by love. **The photo I'm attaching is him before they left. He looks like he's taking a quiet nap and I'm so happy to remember him this way.**
