My dog's vet, Dr. Catherine, was so nice and really took the time to listen to all my yapping lol. I never felt rushed and she made sure all my concerns were addressed. I also want to mention the ladies at the front, they're all so welcoming and genuinely nice to talk to, which makes the whole experience even better. (: And honestly, the clinic smells so good, you wouldn't even think it's an animal clinic! Everything feels clean and well taken care of. If I could rate this place 1000/10, I would. I take my cat here and they do a great job with him! He's pretty medically complex and they have provided every referral he's needed to specialists while managing his overall care. They are always quick to refill his prescriptions and they take me seriously when I notice subtle changes in my animal that may indicate a medical issue. It means a lot to have a veterinarian who genuinely cares about my cat's wellbeing and doesn't dismiss my perspective on my cat's health as his primary caretaker who lives with him every day. We're new patients to Midtown following universal recommendations from the dozen fur parents Ziva & Robin are cultivating at our neighborhood dog pack. Our Dobie's body language was relaxed and welcoming to Dr. Coil, who was gentle and thorough during our initial visit. Communication was easy and thoughtful. Ziva is attuned and intuitive, so we were pleasantly surprised when she showed only calm throughout our visit, including a nasal innoculation and quick blood draw. The office team jumped in to help with suggestions for day care with first-paw experience. Likewise, we enjoyed a quick results call with the results from the heartworm test. Too soon for a five-star review, but I suspect that's the trend here. read more

We use these vets for both our dogs. Our dogs love them and always run off with the vet excited for their adventure Pricing is very fair. They're very quick to tell you about preventative methods you can consider but respect your decisions on them. Example being we were excited to hear about the lepto shots -our dogs love the creek! But we didn't feel we needed another shot that was suggested based off our current lifestyle! The vet was understanding and respected that! The only unfortunate thing is there is such a long wait for appointments! Our pup had picked up giardia when due in for a second shot and we had to restart shots because they didn't have another appointment soon enough after her recovery and we have to start over! However getting appointments can be a problem across all vets in the area. When rescued our newer pup I think the wait time was about 5 weeks ? I had tried other places as I was super anxious to get her shots and they all gave similar time estimates for a new pup appointment! We absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Midtown!! They are the best!! The front desk staff and vet technicians are friendly, nice, attentive, and responsive--they actually respond to your calls (you don't interact with machines, like with other vet clinics). They've always been so, so sweet to our dog Bruin! Always make a big deal about him when he arrives, which makes him feel so happy and better already! He LOVES going there and getting all the love & attention! Communication is efficient. Whenever we have questions, the staff provides answers. They either go that moment to ask the vet or get back to us in a few hours. All the staff (vets included) have been great at following up and checking in with the dog's health. It is clear that the management does their best to keep up with their very busy business and have as much staff as needed. Even though they are busy, we feel like they always manage to make time if it is urgent. The vets are WONDERFUL! Our dog was mainly seen by Dr. Regan and Dr. Nguyen. Bruin loves them and so do we! They have great bedside manners, are so caring, and polite. Soon after we adopted Bruin, he became terribly ill and presented multiple health problems. They did such a thorough and amazing job to try to diagnose and treat his very rare conditions and were always upfront about the costs of each test. Furthermore, they cared for Bruin so tenderly and showed us great empathy. They truly demonstrated their deep care and dedication to their patients and clients. Every single visit, we were so appreciative of their expertise, care, and kindness. We are forever so grateful because they saved Bruin's life and made him feel so much better! He is now a happy, healthy pup! Sadly, we did have to put down Niza, a very beloved senior dog. Dr. Coil was so gentle with her, calm, did the best to make her comfortable, did not rush through it, and was very sympathetic. I knew I could trust their vets in this hard situation. Paid more to get less of my cat! My 10 pounds cat had to go through anesthetic procedure twice in one day! I do recommend going there for vaccination but I do not recommend going in for a serious procedure if you love your furry friend! Everything started to go side ways at the first time we checked in for my cat's tail wound. They covered the wound and told me he needed an amputation. Gave me cream antibiotics and I told them if i take the bandage off to put the antibiotics on the wound he will lick and make it bleed again. They just told me I can leave the wound open and I can give them a call if he bleeds again. End result, he licked his tail and made it bleed! I gave them a call but it was after hours and nobody called me back afterwards. We had to wait 10 days with bandage, blood, antibiotics, and bandage process at least twice everyday... After the procedure, they sent him home with only stiches even though I warned them few times he will lick the tail, take the stiches off and make it bleed again, unless they cover it. End result, first min we got back home he took the stiches off and made it bleed again! So I had to rush back to the vet in 20 mins after our discharge. They were so humble to say they will not charge me for the second procedure since my cat also wounded his tail more this time so they had to cut a little more which was their fault but you know who is counting... But they were not so humble when it came to charge me for the bandage. First technician on the phone said they need to charge me because they had redo the bandage, so I started to talk angry! And when they figured out that technician screwed up, another one came on the phone to tell me since they do not charge for the second procedure they have to charge for the bandage. How dumb does it get?! A third technician telling me since the bandage is applied because I asked for it, they have to charge... seriously soemthing is wrong with these people?! read more

It has been very disheartening as a long-time client of Midtown to see prices significantly increase and the quality of care--especially the attitude of office staff towards pet owners--significantly decrease under the new ownership. For the past year, I have not felt like a valued client of Midtown for several reasons. Recently, when I called to schedule an appointment for my sick pet, I was told that if I want to be seen that day, I will need to pay an "emergency fee" instead of the normal office visit. To be charged the normal exam rate, I have to wait 2-3 days to see a doctor. When your pet is sick, you need a vet that will be responsive and fit you in that day without trying to gouge your for "emergency fees". In the past, when we had trouble with flea/tick medicine, office staff were so helpful in switching us to a better medication at no additional charge. Now, we get alot of attitude from office staff when expressing that a particular medication is not working and refusal to provide an alternative despite paying over $100 for the product that failed to work. Midtown's discourteous office staff, difficulty in scheduling appoints, increased fees, and stringent policy changes has caused our family to switch to another vet who values our business and cares for our pets. read more

But in my experience when I called last Monday June 9 to make a same day appt for my cat that was lethargic and hiding under a bush, I was told there were no available appt. times that day and there was an opening to see a vet on Thursday. No one offered to take my name and number down to call if there is a last minute cancellation...this is where it gets impersonal. I'm sorry but I don't think my sick cat can hold out over 3 days. I went to another vet clinic located next to the Nugget market in the Oak Tree plaza. I got a same day AM appt for that Monday and I called at 915am. I have 4 pets and 2/4 pets are still patients at Midtown clinic but the way the office is being managed I might spend my hard earned money at another animal clinic. I thought if the new and bigger Midtown clinic is built....more appointments can be made and perhaps in case of an emergency maybe one of the many doctors (I think there are 5 to 6 vets) can spend 15-30 mins out of their schedule to see a sick pet...I didn't mind waiting for 2 hours. read more

My poor sick little cat with atrophied kidney's crashed and almost died recently. I took her to Midtown hoping only that they could make her comfortable. Dr. Nguyen has been wonderful in regards to clear communication and realistic expectations. At this point every day is a gift with my little girl, but since taking her in she has started eating again and she is more alert. The prices at Midtown are a fraction of what UC Davis Vetmed wanted. I just wanted to update my review, now that I have been going to Midtown for a few years. I cannot express how appreciative I am for this clinic or its staff. Every time that I call the office for questions, they are always willing to give me advice; and, the vets there are always patient with me when I ask questions and have concerns. If you get your dogs' nails trimmed, be sure to ask for Mai! I love her, and she is so nice to my two pups. She is great at handling them and she always answers any questions I have. She's awesome! ALL of the vets are great, but I really love Dr. Regan! For over 6 weeks my dog Martini was vomitting randomly and I could not figure out why. Dr. Regan was able to pinpoint the cause and now my dog is as good as ever. It's a huge relief. I have seen other reviews here about appt availability. My take is that, yes, sometimes it can be hard to get a same-day appt, but I do think that is understandable. Midtown is a very popular clinic, and if you want a same-day appt, your best bet is calling RIGHT at opening. If you have an emergency, that simply cannot wait, they will direct you to a facility that can get your pet fast care. They're humans, like us, and they have to see all of their patients and take breaks too! Anyways, I just think Midtown is great. When I leave Davis, I am going to miss this clinic so much! read more

When I called to make my first appointment there, they were already giving me an explanation of what everything cost (regular, emergency, and overnight costs). The last vet I went to didn't tell me a single number until it was time to charge me, so this is a great change of pace and really allows me to figure out my options before I take them. The vet was also really friendly and seemed knowledgeable, and she handled my kitten with ease. As a funny aside: I'm a bit absent minded. All I could think about after the appointment was getting home and cooking myself some food, so when the vet released me, I sat somewhat aimlessly in the reception area for a minute before leaving. Because the receptionists were busy, they didn't notice me and I left. Ten minutes later in the car, my boyfriend asks me, "Hey, did you pay them?" I have always had great experiences bringing my precious cat to Midtown for the 10 years I had him. But recently I began a huge downsize and noticed he was becoming very anxious. Dr. Regan offered to have him spend the day hanging out at the clinic. That was a huge relief for me. During the day, she noticed he was having breathing issues and had some tests done. When the labs came back, it was painful news, as it showed cancer that metastasized; he was only 10. Dr. Regan called every day and when I was unable to administer medicine, the staff did it for me. His decline was rapid and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through it without Dr. Regan's kindness and support as well as the kindness of the staff . My heart is broken, but I am enormously grateful for Midtown helping me and my sweet cat through it. I will always remember their kindness. read more

I took in my cat and appreciated the way they handled him. 4 years later we have 2 cats, 1 dog and a kitten. Our oldest cat has had urinary tract issues that required hospitalization and our kitten is having incontinence issues. Every time we take in our pets they always make sure they are treated properly. They have literally saved my oldest cats life and they always answer my thousands of questions respectfully even though I'm sure the questions can be annoying. I cannot express how grateful I am to Midtown Animal Clinic and how invaluable their service has been for me. I went to Midtown when I got my dog, Penny, as a young puppy. Their care has been kind and wonderful, and my dog has no fears about going to the vet as they have always treated her well. When we adopted a cat, we took her to Midtown as well. We recently moved to the UK (and planned on taking the pets with) and Midtown has gone above and beyond. I moved ahead of the pets, who stayed behind with my parents while we settled. I had emailed the head managers of Midtown ahead of time, asking them to assist with our move. The UK import requirements for animals are fairly strict and have very specific requirements in order to make sure your pets do not go into quarantine, and both the former manager (who retired) and Ben (the current manager) were informed and prepared to help. As I was abroad and my mom was taking the pets to the vet appointments and traveling with them, I was very nervous about not being able to do this myself and having something potentially go wrong when I was unable to immediately help, and Ben was responsive and helpful with all of my emails and requests. Happily, the move went smoothly and the pets arrived safely. I cannot recommend Midtown enough - the only problem is that I don't believe I'll ever find a veterinary office as amazing as them! read more

I just brought my dog into Midtown Animal Clinic this morning for a toenail clipping, booster shots, and heartworm tests. They took her into the back and when they brought her out front (wrapped in a blanket, because she had urinated and defecated on them), they explicitly said that they had not harmed her. When I removed the towel, one of her paws was completely bloody, and one nail was half the size of all of the other clipped nails. They refunded the $18 charge for toenail clippings, which I doubt will help soothe the trauma my dog has been exposed to. After I got home and looked at the receipt, I realized that the doctor had given her a rabies booster, but had failed to give her the distemper/parvo shot she was due for. The doctor also failed to test for heartworms. I promptly called the clinic and let them know that I would no longer be bringing my dog there. Update 2/24/10: So i was just checking on my past reviews that i've done on yelp, and it seems that the pictures that i uploaded of the harm they did to my dog have dissapeared and replaced with pleasant pictures of the main vet and a cat...which hardly seems fair to the others that depend on accurate information when deciding where to take their beloved pets. whether or not that was a glitch in the system or the clinics attempt to save face, i have no idea. make your own judgement, i'm simply relaying information. read more

After traumatic experiences at our previous vet of two years (who seemed to be getting more and more unfriendly and dishonest) and coming with many recommendations I decided to give midtown a try. I have to say I left the clinic very pleased and more importantly my dog left with a big smile on his face. When we were walked into Midtown clinic my dog sensed it was a vet (probably the smells) and he panicked as usual with our past vet. He is a huge 70lb dog but he tries to lean into you, shaking, hyperventilating, and crying when he goes to the vet. So the usual happened but the receptionist was so nice. She kept soothing him by being calm, telling him he is beautiful, and hand feeding him treats. This was quite a change from the last vet clinic where the receptionist glared at me from behind the desk like my dog was interrupting her work. After the welcoming waiting room we made it to the small but clean room to see the vet. My dog eased up realizing I could come in the "backroom" with him. (The previous vet always made me wait in the waiting room while they took my terrified dog away from me which seemed a little shady). The actual vet we saw was wonderful. She walked into the room and I immediately felt comfortable. She knows and loves dogs. You can tell these things about dog-people. Within the first few minutes she predicted my dogs breeds (he is a mutt) and she knew what type of personality she was working with. I felt like I could trust her. She didn't try pushing other care or things that were unnecessary and she did the most thorough job I have ever seen a vet do. The price was just right. Actually a little cheaper than the previous vet. Even though midtown is on the railroad tracks, behind a dairy queen, and small (It could be hard to locate) they do more than makeup for it with the quality of care. But I have learned from my experience not to be fulled by the huge fancy clinics with nice waiting rooms, such as my previous vet. They make those waiting rooms nice for a reason-so the owners can sit there throughout the whole experience. I'm sticking with the small tucked away place. I am so happy with the experience that I plan to only bring my dog back to Midtown and I am going to recommend it to all my friends. read more

First let me say that I am a near-graduation student at the Vet School in Davis. The folks at Midtown know that about me and they have that written on my pet's records so I cannot be sure whether they treat my pets particularly well because I am in the field or not, but having vet school classmates who work there (or have worked there in the past) or who take their own pets there they came highly recommended. Prices here are REALLY reasonable! I have to emphasize that. A full dental with 4 extractions (under general anesthesia) cost me around 400 - a fraction of the cost it would have been at the vet school. Granted at Davis you are dealing with board certified dentists and protocols that are extremely thorough - Davis takes dental x-rays before, during and after to make sure they don't miss any part of a tooth that may have chipped off (which is common enough). Midtown did not take x-rays of my pet's teeth at all. But I did get to save a ton of money by having things done at Midtown. The front office staff was quite nice to me, but not as friendly to my non-vet school partner. Dr. Áine Coil were nice to deal with but I did have to call to follow up to get the results of my pet's blood work as they neglected to call me (even just to let me know that everything was normal). The younger doctor in the practice, Dr. Melissa Hartinger, is really nice and sat me down when I picked my pet up to talk about things and answer my questions. She also called more than once to see how my pet was doing. I didn't deal with Dr. Gravem much other than to get the results of my pet's blood work but he apparently worked with Dr. Hartinger on the dental. Overall, the hospital has very nice decor and looks clean, has comfy chairs in the exam rooms and the waiting room never seemed overly crowded with people or pets. Word of advice to all - get pet insurance for your pets! I paid 150 for a year of insurance for my pet and have saved hundreds with just one minor procedure and have up to 8,000 in coverage per year. It's really worth it if you choose the right company - try PetPlan! read more

I paid $42 for the vet to tell me that my dog is fine and healthy when in all actuality she was throwing up all day for the past few days and gets shivers every morning. Sorry but the guy at petco told me more about what could be wrong with her than the vet did.. He was the one who recommended I make an appointment with the vet. I called the vet 2 days later to tell them that there is still something wrong with her because she has not stopped vomiting and they told me to bring her in for another exam for another $42. The veterinarians here seriously know what they are doing! The clinic itself is super clean, well maintained, and has its own parking lot. My 1-year-old Havanese has gone here for a variety of different reasons, but each time she was treated extremely well and I was super impressed with the knowledge and skill of all of the staff. I am a pre-vet student and this is the type of place I dream of working at some day! This place came HIGHLY recommended by people in my department on campus and some of these folks work closely with the Vets here. Turns out the doctors at MAC are former UCD Vet Students, and knowing that they came from one of the top vet schools, this place was a no brainer. I have 2 cats and am a first time cat owner...first time I've had a pet that doesn't need to be kept in a bowl of water or caged...I've seen Dr. Coil, Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Cocherelle. I have no preference -- they were all EXCELLENT! Prices are reasonable and since I bring in both cats I get some % off my bill. Oh and as I was leaving the vet, another woman walked in with her cat and I heard her mention that she was also a vet student. It's a good sign that other vets bring their pets here! read more

Dr. Gravem is very skilled at what he does and is a great veterinarian, albeit lacking a little bedside manner. He took us in as new clients (needing surgery for our high-maintenance cat) with very short notice and since then has always squeezed us in when we need it. The visits are usually short and sweet, and my wallet only screams a little when it's time to pay the bill. They have Saturday hours which is nice, and the building is new and modern with plenty of parking. Every time we visit there are happy clients in the waiting room (aside from the occasional hissing cat) and the staff always greets us with smiles. I have referred many friends and family here due to how well they accommodate their clients and how reasonable their prices are. I always feel like our cat is in good hands and trust the care we get here. I'm happy we made the switch to Midtown, it's the cat's meow. read more

I was first recomended to this vet back in 2007 when my cat stopped eating for the second time in two years. The first place i took her (in woodland) lost all her medical records and wanted to redo everything including blood work. Their estimate was over 1k! Midtown animal clinic ended up costing me under $400 with blood work and teeth pulling all done. Turned out she had feline aids and they were super nice about it! The next time i went (over a year later for my new doggies shots) they even asked first thing if everything was okay with her passing and if my family took it okay and if there was anything they could do to help. I had to let them know she was still alive because they pulled her teeth for her and let me know exactly what was going on and how i could help her! I only use this vet now and their prices are very reasonable compared to everyone else, and for the work and explinations they give, it's really cheap! Thanks Midtown! read more

My dog has been a client of Midtown clinic for many years and they have been great taking care of him. Doesn't hurt that he never gets sick. I have had one issue with a clinic, which is debatable as to actually being an issue. We moved to SoCal for a bit and for the drive back to NorCal I wanted to pick up some sedative from Midtown clinic, as the dog tends to howl non-stop on a long drive due to anxiety. The clinic informed me that since it's been over the year since the dog has been seen by a vet, they cannot issue any pills, and I should seek out another clinic in SoCal. Which was unfortunate, since I did not want to take him to some random vet in SoCal just to get the sedatives to move him back north. So we just drove for 8 hours with a whiny dog instead. Ideally, I would have liked for the clinic to issue some meds in advance and then schedule a physical. I don't know how flexible clinics can be on this subject, but I felt that the clinic that truly cared, would have been more understanding. Having said this, I have also recently adopted a cat and just took him in for one free physical exam that they honor if you adopt a pet from a local shelter, which is really a sweet deal. Naturally, I will continue taking my dog and cat here as they do a fine job taking care of them. read more
