Extremely disappointed in this establishment. My mother wanted to sell a large dining room table that seats 12 because she wants to downsize. The table is beautiful no scratches, dark wood, no water spots, mint condition and they asked for pictures which she sent to them. They told her they would love to do business with her at going rate of 50/50. Not the mot ideal but she wanted to sell it. They were horrible at communicating with her with laps of two weeks making it so she would have to drive to the store to talk with them. They finally had told her she needs to drop it off so they could show it and suggested their moving guy. She reached out to the guy and got it deopped off and Karen's promptly told her to get back in touch with their guy to pick it back up costing her $450 for moving the table. Is this a scam? What type of business are they running here? Taking advantage of the elderly is not cool to say the least. They should at least pay the moving cost since they changed their minds. read more

We came to Karen's because we are furnishing a new beach rental and taking on the daunting task of appointing an entire house. I didn't realize they sold clothing, but as a collector (I'm not a reseller) who is always looking for 1930's-70's fashion, I rerouted over to that booth. A fair range of decades and styles are stuffed into a little corner of the furniture showroom, however the items were outrageously overpriced for this type of set-up (i.e. not a specialty curated boutique experience). But of course, people can charge whatever they think they can get, and I don't fault them for choosing their clientele. My problem is that the clothing proprietor was unusually rude, arrogant, and a most unpleasant eye-roller; I was really caught off guard, since, unlike other places, most people in the San Diego vintage fashion world (it's pretty small) know, like, and respect each other, and egos are usually kept pretty well in check. I don't know how she is connected to the furniture store, if the clothing is separate or all one business, but this seller was enough to keep me from going back to Karen's for any reason. read more

Beware before you drop anything off for consignment! I dropped my sofa off at Karen's for them to sell. It was handmade in Southern California with a solid wood frame, silk chenille upholstery, and down seat cushions - not something you'd buy at a chain store and not mass manufactured. I never heard anything from Karen's and when I called they told me it had been donated. They said after X number of days they donate the furniture and they don't give notice to the owner. The best they could offer me was a receipt. 1. I paid someone $200 to deliver the sofa to Karen's because I was told they were the best for furniture resale 2. I realize now I should've asked these questions ahead of time, so that's on me 3. How do I know it was donated? How do I know they didn't sell the sofa and then just tell me "it was donated"? I don't. If you just want to unload something, that's fine but I would not trust them with anything you expect to sell. I wish I had simply given the sofa away on Facebook, I would've saved $200 and I could've made someone very happy. read more

They have a great deal in stock, and a bit of everything from antique to mid entity modern, to recent quality pieces. Just found a great deal here. You can pick up an older Ethan Allen piece in great condition. There's always something new and different. He asked me good questions about our bedroom decor, then set out and found the perfect option that was also reasonably priced. My beloved family couch had been a point of contention for over a year when my GF and I got a new couch and I couldn't bear to part with the old one without knowing it was going to a good home. Karen's to the rescue! I emailed with Stacey to arrange the drop off, which went easily, and whala, a couple of month's later I received a check in the mail. A few notes: they are busy and have a pretty full gallery, so be sure to coordinate with them on dropoff arrangements. They're going to set the price which is fine -- they do this all day, everyday so way better for them to price at what will sell rather than me building in sentimental value that no one else will pay for. And be patient -- they are busy but in the end they came through with everything promised. This place is awful for consigning your stuff. They lie to their clients and will damage your stuff while its there. I had a piece of furniture there for the duration of the contract. I called repeatedly to see if it sold, and they told me they would mark it down as we had agreed upon. When I finally went to pick it up at the end of the term, I saw that they never marked it down and, it was still showing the original price, AND there was a huge scratch on the wood where there wasn't one before. You're better off going to another consignment place to sell stuff or selling it yourself on a local APP read more

Disappointed once again. Seems like all the good items get picked by the owner (there's always a big heap of great items, covered in blankets in the back of store) which the employees said all belong to owner. So if there's anything worth anything, it's already been picked by him. Hardly seems fair. I think I'll give up coming here under these circumstances. Such a shame. I would like to add that I went to Karen's today to see some CHJ lucite chairs. They were marked, "SOLD" when I arrived but later discovered that, like the items the owner grabs, well, I guess he's planning on selling these again, grabbing items that came into store only for himself to sell later on a high end internet platform. Over the years I have taken many pieces of Art to leave on consignment and luckily for me it's always sold. If you're looking for Unique pieces of furniture or art at a good price this is the place. Today, I took two floor lamps, two pieces of Art and one Buddha. I was hoping to find a new piece of art there as they have a lot of sign pieces, prints, original serigraphs and lithographs. Friends recommended Karen's, and we first shopped here almost two years ago. At that time, we picked up two retro chairs for our family room. The inventory is a bit higher quality than most consignment centers. Karen's is small, but it has a good selection of furniture ad decorative items. Parking is rather challenging with a small shared parking lot and street parking. Pricing is reasonable. Staff is friendly and helpful. read more

I can't count on my fingers and toes how many things I've purchased from Karen's over the years. They do seem to get such varied and interesting art and furniture that I almost have to come every week to make sure I'm not missing anything. I have a condo here in SD and a mid-century home in Palm Springs so my design needs cover a lot of different styles. The prices aren't 'cheap' but they are fair considering the cost of goods these days. (And they do mark items down the longer they are in the floor so you can get some smoking' deals!) Plus the staff is always friendly and happy to be of assistance. Shout out to Joey and Stacy! I've consigned many things here too. That's the funny part, you find something you like better and then sell what you replaced. LOL They couldn't have been more respectful of my items. I've had a few things that didn't sell and they gave me an option to pick it up, or they would donate to a local charity. I'm so sorry to write a negative review. This concerns attempting to sell something. I took in a painting and waited for a price. Long story short, they sold my painting without a settled price. We were negotiating and I asked for a bit of time to contact my partner to see if the price was ok, as she had decided she was on the fence about selling it. It took me just 24 hours to respond that we were going to pass on the price and pick the painting up when I was told the painting was sold. All of our interactions were in the course of a very short few days... and when I challenged the seller, Dave, he said that they couldn't 'store the painting'. I sincerely thought this was all a reasonable amount of time in the negotiating so I was shocked at the lack of professional courtesy -- NOT EVEN A WARNING THAT THERE WAS A BUYER AND IT WAS GOING TO BE SOLD. Then, they wouldn't make it right by offering me a higher portion of the price, even though I had asked them to consider raising the price, and what they would have received was exactly what we was initially offered. SELLER BEWARE.... They will not keep their word and hold your piece until a price is agreed upon. If you leave your piece, they will do what they want. read more

I had a great experience working with Stacey and Joey at Karen's Consignment Shop. I had been wanted to get a tete-a-tete chair for our master bedroom's walk in closet for a while. I happen to see a used Christopher Guy one I really liked at Karen's Shop online for a reasonable price, so I bought it online from them. They sent me photos and I did a walk around with them via FaceTime so I could see the stains on the upholstery, which I might have to get reupholstered. I was able to verify that the cane backing and wood on the frame was not damaged at all. They also provided me with the names of a few moving companies located close by to them who could pick up the conversation chair and ship it to my home in Virginia. Both the service and price from PacMail in LaJolla were excellent. Their shipping quote was was the lowest. Now my husband and I each have a chair facing our own side of the closet, which looks amazing. The conversation chair is perfect for that spot. read more

I had consigned a rather hefty amount of china, silver, etc. when moving to a new home. I noticed that one of my silver plated nest of 4 items: sugar, creamer, coffee pot, tea pot- did not make it to the new home. I assumed the box would turn up at some point! Well, the antique silver-plated items did turn up - at Karen's! I knew the set was mine because the coffee (or teapot) had a dent on the bottom near the last bulge which meant that the pot wasn't very stable. I spoke to the gentleman in charge - do not recall his name - and told him I'd like to know who consigned that 'set' of old silver plate. He said he could not do that. I should have called the police immediately. I did not. I told him that if he looked at the coffee pot he'd find a dent in the back and that it wouldn't stand in a stable position. He refused to take the pieces out of the cabinet. I rest my case. I cannot recommend Karen's if they're selling stolen goods. read more

I walked by this place on my daily walk . I just moved to the area and am in need of furniture , so I though if stop in . It was a Saturday and This place was pretty busy . It very large and has about four separate areas of furniture . It has its own parking , however there is street parking as well . The service was great . I was greeted as I walked in , and the lady working there asked me later on if I needed help with anything , but she was very busy ( it looked like ) The place was very clean and well set up . All the furniture I saw was in prestige condition . The pricing was pretty expensive . Although the pieces were in excellent condition , many items I feel could have been bought new for the same price . Couches ranged from $500 to 1200 ( that I saw)z however take in mind that this is a consignment store ! These pieces are being sold for customers . It's never a great sign when a business has to proactively tell you that they are "...NOT Closing." I'm not kidding, they have a banner out front communicating that message as of 2/13/2024. I took a nice piece of furniture in from Room & Board that is about 10 years old with normal wear in to try and sell on consignment. The guy running around (not sure what his role is) was not very welcoming and told me flat out he wouldn't take the piece because it has dog hair on it. It had clear vacuum marks on it as I had vacuumed it before bringing it in, and honestly had very little dog hair on it. Another employee then comes over, I have to assume she is Karen, and while she was definitely more pleasant than the guy running around, told me the same thing. I asked if I could lint roll it, and she declined. No worries, I just won't shop here and don't think any of you should either. Just sell your stuff on Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp as eventually this business model will die anyways. read more

We love checking out Karen's Consignments! There's always new merchandise every time we go and the furniture varies from high end antique to modern chic. We just moved into the area and have been slowly but surely putting our home together so we love going to Karen's to see what's available. While we've only been lookie-loo's so far as we are determining our style we will definitely be buying from here. Only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is that the prices are ok, not fantastic (markdowns are only 10% after the item has been in store for a while) but this is a great store I recommend checking out! read more

I've got tell you. I'm an interior designer and have been coming here for years. I mostly buy for clients, but had some extra pieces in my inventory so I put them for sale . I won't go into a long messy story I can say that I was treated very rudely by some guy named DAVE. I was not unpleasant, but this guy had a little "hissy fit" Right on the showroom floor in public! I have been a manager in a Thomasville gallery for years and if any employee displayed that type of childish behavior on my floor it would not be tolerated. In addition there is now present an arrogance and uncomfortable vibe in this place that was not here before this place was taken over by new owners some time back. Well, let's start with why Karens gets at least two stars from me... Easily the most improved consignment shop in the San Diego area. During my last visit, Jan 2007, there was a nice selection of actual consignment furniture mixed in with the tacky "model home liquidation" junky new furniture. Worth a look though, if ... You can put up with Karen! Talk about a bag! All other consignment stores in the San Diego area will at least pass a legitimate offer from a potential buyer through to the consigner of the item. Not Karen. "We have a 90 day contract with our sellers, we just don't DOOO that!" What a load... If I were a consigner with a well worn piece, priced above market, I think I would want to hear about a firm offer of 80% of asking price! Karen knows best on that, though. She would much rather alienate a potential customer by refusing to at least pretend to pass an offer through. Shop it if you like, but be prepared to deal with the wicked witch of the west! read more

This is higher end used furniture and decoration for gardens or walls, like art, vases etc. You will find upper scale brand names and higher quality fabrics in this store. I bought a big comfy beige chair here that 2 people can sit in, it's not quite a love seat but it's nice. Over the years I look in there off and on, I can't always afford stuff here but when you do want that nice poster bed, or couch and aren't ready to fork over the dough at lame stores like Ethan Allen you can find nice comparable items in this store. It might even be Ethan Allen but it won't have that price as it's used. read more

I stopped at several consignment shops. Karen's had "nicer" inventory than the others. An employee named Mercedes offered to help me. She had a good idea of where everything was and showed me several items. I didn't find the pieces I wanted but the inventory is always changing. That's the nature of consignment stores. I've been to Karen's many times. They have lots of employees circulating / working throughout the store. They invariably ask how I am and if I need help. Never has anyone there been rude to me. Yes, Karen's is picky about their inventory and that's what makes each trip worthwhile. Their prices are fair, as evidenced by the tremendous turnover. If you let a month go by between visits, most of what you see will be new to you. For what it's worth, an employee told me last week that Karen's had changed hands. Love this place. I've consigned a bunch of stuff- decorative pieces and also furniture. They take a wide variety of items from different periods and different styles. Their prices can be high but a lot of items can be found at a bargain. I've also purchased pieces here not just consigned. I love this store because of the wide selection. I do not complain in public or to the public. But I must comment about Karen's Consignment in Point Loma, San Diego, CA. I consigned items to Karen's for resale. I had heard that it was an OK shop to do business with. They accepted my items and even sold some for me. However, their restrictions on the length of time to be kept at Karen's is too restrictive. In their contract with property owners they request a 90 day term to be able to sell the items. However, and according to contract, they will allow you to enter after 30 days to retrieve anything you own. My items were just past the 30 day mark when I called them and received a verbal OK to "just come on in"and retrieve the items. So, after the 30 day period and before the 90 day time frame I went to the store to get my items. I met with Susan and she helped my search for the pieces. When all was completely gathered and we got to the parking lot, I noticed that a colorful blown glass decanter was broken. I took it inside to her and showed it to her saying that this wasn't broken when I brought it in. She said "things happen" with a slightly smug smile on her face. When I asked her if she knew it was broken she said, "Yes," I'll put it in for donation. I walked out. Somehow I cannot help but surmise that the item was willfully broken for my coming in per contract and getting what was mine. I would not do business with Karen's. They are less than honest. read more
