Really bad customer service. I wanted an item and told the salesperson but by the time I finished browsing made it to the check out they "accidentally" sold the item to someone else. I spoke with the owner and he could care less. He was very rude. I will not buy or sell from here again. read more

RUDE RUDE AND RUDE I found a table that I really liked at Karens, asked an employee (woman) if it was old or made to look that way, she responded, "all of our items are antiques". I said that's not what I was told a month prior when I inquired about a table they had at the time. She then said, "well, why did you even bother to ask then?", and walked away. I went up to the new owner to complain, and this employee walks back over and says, "do you need to say something?" The owner says he'll handle it to her and I told him what this employee said, he did apologize for her attitude. Karens does have some nice pieces of furniture, and I must say much higher end than Consignment stores, but why go into a place where you feel like you cannot ask a question without upsetting an employee and then being talked to so rudely. Most of the time I've gone into the store, I get ignored, so I was happy to have someone come over to help. I don't know if this women still works at Karens since I have not been back, and don't plan on going in there again. There are way to many other antiques stores in San Diego. read more

Yesterday I sent an email to Karen's Consignment Gallery inquiring about consigning furniture that I have in storage in San Diego. I explained that I am currently living in DC and only had one picture available, however assured them that the antique furniture was well cared for. The response I received this morning was the most unprofessional email I have ever encountered: "I can't see anything except the arm and back of the chair. There is a sliver of a table...but much too little for me to know the style. Since we cannot see the items and we are pretty picky, I would suggest you try consignment classics. They will say yes to anything.". Not an offer or suggestion on how to work something out, just a direct referral to another store. I suggest we all take Gloria Roma's advice and go to Consignment Classics. read more

This is my go to store when I need furniture. I have partially furnished at least three homes now with items from this store. I have also sold items finding the terms and staff easy to work with. They choose their pieces carefully and price with the intention to sell. This means that the inventory turns over fast and there are often many good items to choose from. The staff is worth mentioning also because most of them have worked there for many years and are always friendly and helpful. I noticed some of the negative reviews and was really surprised since I have never had a bad experience at this store. I have been shopping at Karen's for the past two years and picked up several awesome pieces for my house..from beds to dressers to mirrors and artwork. It takes some consistent shopping as their selection varies frequently, but it is well worth the hunt. They have great quality furniture at extremely reasonable prices. Very disappointed in the direction Karen's is taking. Clearly their business model has evolved. Karen's used to be known for mid-century modern, as well as fine classic pieces that were appropriate for the Pt Loma neighborhood. But now the showroom is over-crowded and the furniture such as it was, poorly displayed. Particularly annoying was a set of over-sized log furniture that completely overwhelmed the showroom. Other furniture included oversized and worn pieces. Even small items looked ordinary. It seems the store is focusing on estate sales of large furniture and has turned away from the curated items they used to feature. The showroom is not large so the over-sized items are crammed in and the art work is poor or non-existent. Junky kitchenware...no doubt remnants of estate sale buys. I am also disappointed with the selling experience. I was offered a low-ball price for a perfect high quality item. It annoyed me that I was offered $2.00 below their price break point...insult to injury. Several items I brought in last year should have sold but did not. Rather than haul them back home I agreed to donate (to whom???). I regret that decision. I took my high quality piece to The Ark where pricing is more fair and they are gracious and appreciative in their review of items. I will not be returning to Karen's. read more

I guess Karen sold the place so it's under new management, and that's fine with me. Now they are open on Sundays again so we go about once a month to see what's new with the old furniture. They always have cool furniture, often some unusual shapes and colors. read more

You can get some good buys but be wary of the counterfeit merchandise they carry, such as the 820.00$ Classic Italian Sofa I bought, or so I thought. Within a few years the fake leather started to peel like a dog sheds hair and there is no returns or credit. You're on your own! So, when buying from Karen's always double check everything and never take their word for anything. Happy Shopping! read more

Store appears to be small from the street but once you get inside it is a large store with a lot of variety in furniture. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and the store is very clean and organized. We will be returning here! read more

There was a problem buying a pièce of furniture as I paid for it and later came to pick it up. in the meantime it seemed to have been scratched and so the wood was impaired. When I tried to discuss this with the management they were not willing to listen. I also tried to consign a few items the staff was not helpful read more

A friend of mine recommended Karen's consignment as a resource to find low cost, high quality furniture for a property we are currently renovating. Although the location is pretty nondescript, inside we found a treasure trove of fine furniture at extremely affordable prices. I have been into consignment stores that look more like a pawn shop. I purchased many rooms of furniture in May 2012. There was so much selection and such reasonable (not cheap) prices, I had a hard time selecting and had to restrain myself from buying too much. I spent a few thousand dollars and purchased a solid rosewood dining room set, teak dresser, marble-topped night table, Asian decorative panels, and Asian table. These pieces are the highest quality. Months later, I look at these pieces and still think what a great deal! The service was impeccable! The employees were friendly and helpful. They even stored my furniture for free until my moving day! I plan to go back for more when I get a bigger place. read more

I am unsure about purchasing, however I STRONGLY suggest you don't bring your valuables here to sell. I spent $150.00 to move a very large beautiful mirror here, roughly valued around 2k. Not only did they price the mirror way too low, but months later when I returned to pick up the mirror (it did not sell), I found it literally shoved in a corner, not only just leaned up against a wall, but not even hung. In addition, it was disgustingly dusty and hadn't even been wiped down in the three months it lived there. A total of $250 wasted moving the mirror back and forth. Never been more underwhelmed. read more

Karen's Consignment Gallery has a cold & sterile environment. We waited 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. The staff turned up their noses to our turn of the century living room chairs and crystal glassware. We were very disappointed as they were recommended by a close friend, I guess it was the coldness of the staff that was really haunting. read more

This store has some nice items...I have bought, consigned and traded for years. However, I have stopped going these last few years as I have been met with outrageously rude and poor customer service. The first time I thought it might be a fluke. Clearly not. I realize I have very high end items and they may not be appropriate for this level consignment store (and by the way, I have always let THEM set the prices). My last visit I brought in 4 Jan Barboglia pieces, an original oil and 2 antique carved plant stands that I thought might appeal to this particular store. An employee named Mary reviewed them in less than a minute and derisively, dismissively and condescendingly berated them all and walked away. I have no problem if stores decide to not accept items that are brought in. But such rudeness is unforgivable in a customer driven business...in any business. So I have been a customer and live up the street for 20+ years. I have seen this shop grow from the start and I must say it has gone from a friendly neighborhood small business that would do anything to get your business to one of Arrogance and Rude behavior. So let me explain. First their take from the sale almost makes it unbearable to do business with them. 50% is like your giving them your item. Second as many families do they freshen up their houses over the years to just change the look and feel. So we have purchased several items from them by waiting for mark downs and full price purchases. So over the past year or so we have been going thru this. So we went by to try to use their services with the very items we paid 400+ dollars or more from them and they would not even take some of the items and we keep our home and items in very good shape (no children!). Then when they reject you they are just outright rude and nasty. It makes you feel as though don't bother coming in with the junk when it was them we purchased it from? I think they got too big for their britches and I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND using them. In fact I would say everyone SOPT using them and let run them out of town! read more

I am a long time consignor and drove from Coronado to consign some items. Things like a Waverly table runner, Limoges plates, hand painted, commemorating the French American friendship, a vintage Wright brothers coffee cup commemorating the first flight, a French oyster plate and some handmade maple cookie stamps for the holidays. After looking at my items, the staffmember said he couldn't help me today (couldn't take my items). I called two consignment stores in Solana Beach and both establishments said they would be interested in all of my items. I will not make the trip to this shop again, unfortunately. read more

I ADORE this store. As a San Diego native who has since moved away, I make a point of popping by Karen's with my mom whenever I visit (usually right after I get off the plane). Every time I come there's something different and if you see something you like, get it quick, because it won't be there long. The selection is definitely varied, ranging from modern to antique. Sometimes there are some ugly things in there, but for the most part I can always find something I'm interested in. Things are fairly priced (I think). Last time I got away with a fabulous Cloisonnes vase and the time before I found some great orchid prints. The jewelry selection can be pretty good (you just have to look) and they'll have silver and china and all sorts of other things from time to time. I just wish I could find a way to buy some of the furniture and get it back home without renting a moving truck. Maybe someday... Really, one of THE BEST consignment furniture stores I know of. Just wish I could relocate it to where I live now. read more

Wow - this place has CHANGED, and not for the better. Buyer beware. Since we moved to Point Loma over 20 years ago, we have bought and sold quite a bit of furniture here. So, I went in today and found some great pieces for my new family room - a couple of thousand dollars worth of furniture. I was asking my sales person some questions about pick up etc. when the "manager" butted in to inform me of the "new policies." He was so rude and nasty that I even had to tell him "Look, I don't want to fight with you.." and I left the store without my purchases. I will never go back. I just stumbled upon this place during a recent trip to San Diego. The store had some very qulaity merchandise and reasonable prices.
