I am particular to white meat but this was done so well that even though mostly dark it was still very good. Seasoned well and so crispy that when I reheated my leftovers at home it was like I had just gotten it hours before. They were also cut up nicely and greatly portioned. Although we almost didn't get to experience this food due to the card reader being broken, the hostess allowed us to place a to go order and pay cash before closing back up. Considering how we had driven an hour out of the way I am glad we did not leave disappointed. We got two large jerk chicken plates. I got the impression that the jerk chicken was baked and then sauced when it is my understanding that jerk chicken is traditionally grilled. The skin was a tell tale sign. The rice was a little dry without gravy and it didn't give the shelly quality. However, the combo of chicken to rice to gravy was very satisfying. Here we go again with a great time eating great food. The service was top tier. The lady came out putting up a sign saying they would be opening later due to some technological problems. I asked where else could I go for some good food and she asked if I had cash, she could do cash. I made my order and went to the ATM. I've been sitting here for an hour and watching a steady stream of people come in for their amazing lunch special weekdays $10 (I think M-Th). The jerk chicken is so flavorful with a hint of spice. I only order the Cajun pasta. The pasta is one of The Best I've had it's just the customer service I can't get past. The cashier is too young to be THAT unpleasant. After calling in my order I gave a friend the restaurant's information to order. The cashier was rude and hung up on her while she was in the middle of asking another question. I've been to Karen's International Grill off and on in the last ten years. The quality of food has never changed. I recently ordered a new menu item (instead of ordering the Cajun pasta) through DoorDash, which was the Vegan Rasta pasta and wings. At first I thought the wings were going to be Vegan, but they are not. However, they were large chicken wings and they were packed with flavor. My entire meal arrived piping hot, actually. I devoured both the pasta and wings! The Vegan Rasta Pasta didn't taste any different than the regular kind that's normally made with a cream sauce. read more

Right away over the phone I was told the mac and cheese was out. Okay. I like supporting local businesses and understand running out of a popular item. My husband picked up the take out order and this place is obviously popular with the amount of people waiting to pick up orders. Everything was delicious except for the vegan wings which were overly salty and not very lemon peppery. Don't care. We are actually pescatarians and the fact that this establishment is trying to be accommodating to vegans is very admirable. The sauce for the fried corn was margarinish and weird. Don't care. The owner is extremely rude and does not appreciate customers. The restaurant opened at 12:00 and I was the first to order my food. I sat at the bar to wait for the food and was told I need to get up because that side of the restaurant is only for eating customers. The restaurant was completely empty. My wife and I were chased out after patiently waiting outside for over 30mins only to be disrespected by a mean-spirited classless woman. Jerk chicken, stew chicken, and curry chicken. The food was disgusting. The meats on all 3 dishes taste like it was reheated from the day before. The jerk chicken was certainly oven baked not grilled, dried out and old. I didn't even bother to call up there or take it bk I just said I will put in a review so the owner and potential customers will know what's being served to customers. Unfortunately the service is absolutely horrible. We came in for lunch this afternoon and waited outside for the restaurant to open at 12:00. When we were greeted, we were told "good morning". Next we thought about dining in but it seemed like we were inconveniencing the staff because the cashier gave a huge sigh when she found out we wanted to eat there. So to help her out, we decided to do to-go. There was a line so we sat on the bar stools by the bar. This lady walks up, says good morning then tells us that we can't sit there. We asked for a refund and left. No military discount no friendly service. Food was $21.40 for small jerk chicken order and small stew chicken order. Given the attitude I'm sure the food would have been horrible. Never coming back again and not recommending to anyone else. What a disappointment and waste of time. This place has great food! I have to admit, I was put off by the idea of "international" fare when I craved Jamaican food. Fusion isn't my thing. I often find they do a couple things right and display bad imitations of other cuisines. Not the case at this little spot. I ordered veggie egg rolls for my appetizer and ooxtails with peas and rice. The egg rolls were so large. I was afraid they would be doughy and tasteless. Not at all. Seasoned perfectly and fried crisp. Oxtails are my thing. I get friends and family members making requests for my oxtails for their upcoming visit. I order oxtaills from restaurants because it's nice to have great oxtails without having to make them yourself. These oxtails were so tender and flavorful. You can easily tell when a restaurant has rushed the pprocess in making this dish. I was really amazed and will order it again and again. The atmosphere is nice too. We felt comfortable dining in this small spot. Service was warm and friendly. My friend ordered a fish dish with shrimp egg rolls and was equally pleased. Large portions of each dish. I would give it 3 1/2 stars:. The restaurant is clean, easy to find with limited shared parking and Staff is prompt and friendly. I was going to order a large Jerk chicken and rice and peas when my smart daughter asked if they had a lunch special. You have to order from menus laid out on the counter as there are no menus on the wall. So I was grateful for her intervention. Jerk chicken was cut up pieces of breast meat, not whole pieces that I'm used to eating when I order Jerk chicken and whole pieces seem to be more flavorful. The rice was just a tad soggy and that could have been from the gravy (?) or the fact that I didn't eat it until I got home. But the smell when I opened up my styrofoam container and the presentation added an extra star. Karen's is definitely worth another try. Where is Karen? I'm always looking for authentic Caribbean food near by. I stumbled across this place just by driving down Salem. The parking lot is Mixy however that has nothing to do with the restaurant itself. We walked in, place is small, looks like take out. A lady came out and asked take out or dine in. We said dine in and she told us to take a seat wherever. I get it..It's cheap and you get what you pay for however I would rather them charge a few dollars more and provide you with quality pieces of meat. Our server was friendly and everything came out in a reasonable amount of time. Yes it's true the rice is dry but your food does come with a sauce that can bring it back to life. I ordered the stew chicken and my boyfriend got the jerk. Would I return? Umm.. maybe for lunch special. But nothing really stood out to me. Not bashing a small business.. I would've love to meet Karen or the business owner, you know come by and greet you, ask how your meal was. My only minor complaint is that I request regular Alfredo and often receive spicy Cajun. It's still delicious but not what I asked for.
