My partner Angel initially came here for mercury extraction from 4 molars. After a few years, turns out 2 of those 4 teeth had damage from the extractions and required root canals. After healing, a crown was placed which was oversized, he let them know it was uncomfortable and felt too big, but they wouldn't grind it down appropriately. The other crown was placed which was so over sized that they had to grind adjacent tooth to fit it. This pressure from the crown(s) ended up damaging adjacent molar, it ended up cracking this other molar over time from impact when chewing. Unfortunately, now that lower molar needs completely extracted from the damage done by the 2 big crowns. Almost $20k later out of pocket and now this, which is prompting the review, enough suffering. People go to a holistic dentist expecting improved health as an investment, not to endure tragedy after tragedy requiring fix after fix. They could be much more careful here and receptive to patient concerns. Now we are at a trustworthy dentist who was happy to grind the crowns to fit comfortably (for free actually) and who has provided an accurate diagnosis and plan of care. read more

Trying to live a healthy life takes work and looking for a place like a reputable dentist office with integrity as its ethos is no different. Living in LA you do have options for holistic offices, but the tricky thing is to find out if they're in it for the profit (*** VERY*** common when you step in the alternative/naturopathic/holistic office arena) or if they're really in it for the right reasons. People get super gouged by a lot of these offices unfortunately because profit is actually the priority disguised by the marketing and keywords they use. Sadly this office no different. They use the right vocabulary, and smiles, but when calling in for a first time consultation and extracting some info (along with a SUPER snarky & condescending tone the girl gave like it's her business), I find out it's almost $400 for a first time visit, and a $600 deposit which is charged if you miss an appt. I've worked the corporate world for quite a few years, and have heard $50, $100, even $150 for cancellation fees. But $600??? And the stuff she quoted was off the richter scale. I asked 4 different ways if I heard right, and this girl repeated $600. Dr Solis, seriously? Quite the ambition going on here. Now I'm not exactly a billionaire, but pretty light years away from being broke, but there does have to be flag raised if/when greed comes into the picture especially when health is involved. Love Dr. Solis and LA Holistic Dentistry! This place is what has made me lose my deathly fear of dentists/dentistry. (I had avoided dentists for years before this, never able to stick with one for long because each was worse than the next, only further solidifying the fear.) But that stopped once I came here. You can tell that EVERYONE-- from the staff at the front desk, to the x-ray tech (who is awesome btw!), to the dentist herself, to the hygienists are all passionate about what they do, genuinely care for people, and they make you feel as if you truly are amongst friends. I also had a new hygienist in pink scrubs last time who was an angel!!! LOVE HER! So gentle, yet somehow incredibly thorough and she really took the time to go above and beyond for me in every possible way. The place is clean, has a nice vibe, and has such an AMAZING team of people that works together like a well-oiled machine. They use natural/holistic products and methods and no mercury fillings! They also use ozone therapy. I pay out of pocket to come here because that's how invaluable this place, and what they do, is to me. I'm no longer afraid of dentists and their bait-n-switch tactics (or worse). I'm no longer afraid of judgmental, rough, invasive, pushy dentists or the pain. They have such a gentle touch (yes, all of them! At least all the ones I've tried, which is many) and they are all caring and treat you like a person-- not just $$$'s or "just another annoying patient." They are such a breathe of fresh air and I am so grateful they are near me! (Just beware if you're gonna be there after 3:00, cuz Parking will be a BITCH. You can either pay $3 every 15 min at the nearby lots and go broke by the time you're done, or park almost a mile down on the 1 or 2 side streets that don't require permit parking, then walking the rest of the way or paying to use one of the scooters that are scattered along the sidewalks. Parking anywhere else after 3 will get you a ticket. So either bring walking shoes and hoof it, or download the scooter app and...scooter it. Either way, allot for the extra time.) read more

WOW! I just had the most incredible experience... I had been told by a dentist that I needed a root canal. I have had two horrible experiences with dentists performing root canals when they in fact weren't necessary, only to realize it after the fact. I went to Dr. Solis to get a second opinion and after several awesome tests and more thorough X-rays was told it was actually just a tooth experiencing some trauma because of an onlay that hadn't been done correctly. The Onlay was shaped-down to correct my bite issue and the relief is ENORMOUS! I no longer have pain in the tooth that was having too much pressure from misshapen onlay and do not need a root canal at all! So many dentists out there just jump to doing traumatizing procedures instead of actually taking the time to LISTEN to the patient - what is hurting, why it's hurting, and looking at every possible situation that could be causing it before jumping to conclusions. I highly recommend Dr. Solis - super professional, she knows what she's doing and she actually CARES! Absolutely loved my experience there and won't be going anywhere else from now on. read more

I was a patient of Dr Rota. He was wonderful. I called his office to have an emergency extraction after a tooth broke. Apparently someone has taken over his practice. I spoke to a lady on the phone, she said she was very busy and would need to call me back, maybe by the end of day, maybe next week... I explained I was in serious pain and just needed to know if they could do an extraction, most places cannot because it requires and oral surgeon. Otherwise she did not need to return the call. She was rude and hostile, refused to listen, instead spent time on a rant about how busy she was and hung up on me. She could have listened and answered the simple question . WOW, what a way to treat someone in excruciating pain in an emergency situation... I deleted the number from my phone and will not be returning to this office or recommending this office to friends. I referred many friends to Dr Rota over the years. Instead I'll post a review to warn others about this new monster in his place. read more

NO STARS! Nothing but troubles with this office. Bad DAMS dentist choice. Dr Rota retired. They canceled 1st appt bc "computers down", rescheduled 3 wks later! Then didn't return calls, or line was busy. I commute from AZ, drive thru LA and OC traffic, struggle to find parking and quarters in heart of UCLA, bank to pay bill in cash, RUN to office not to be late, was given pages of paperwork upon arrival that should have been mailed or emailed, sent all my own X-rays which they didn't have all downloaded, sit in the chair for HOURS then told Dr Solis is running late. Heard them rescheduling others on the ph. I too am a professional. My time, clients, income, expenses for travel etc are all precious. This was only the consultation. I got my $ back and left. Most of all as a DAMS mercury removal DDS she should know and prepare for clients with symptoms!! which include anxiety, depression, fatigue, Learning Disabilities, trauma from previous DDSs. At night she left message to say "Sorry for my time loss". A lot more than just time was lost. No explanation why she was running 1/2 a day late. Incompetence with the last patient I bet. Dr Karla is one of the rare Doctors that will go over and beyond for their patients. My experience here was very comfortable, relaxing, and I left with a smile. Dr Karla even cleaned my teeth personally! At first I was hesitant because I always had my teeth cleaned by the hygienist, but after it was done I was amazed at how much better it was. Karla is fantastic! I'm now mercury free and my health has rapidly improved. Because I was so ill and chemically sensitive I really appreciate how she used Bach's Rescue Remedy Herbal stress reduction drops to ease me before my procedures. I came back to have a cavity filled, 2 porcelain crowns and night guard. With each visit her attention to details, making sure I was pain free and that my bite was in alignment was wonderful. Karla also looked into a procedure my pediatric dentist wanted to do on my son that would have been very harmful to his sensitive constitution. Dr. Solis was great. She was very personable and friendly, and I generally agree with the last review. BUT, the receptionists were rude and weren't very clear. I had to call back the next day to clarify the price they quoted me - approximately $100 per filling. Apparently, there's a yearly $50 copay, and then a $45-60 copay per filling. I've had the same insurance for 4 years, and never heard of a yearly $50 copay. I've only paid for a filling. So Dr. Solis and Schneider's office on 10921 Wilshire Blvd just have uncompetitive prices. read more

The entire office staff is warm and caring. In the past, I have been through the ringer with dentists selling me a bill of unnecessary services and I am left suffering the consequences. Not so with this office! The dentist of the future is here! She is knowledgeable, caring, compassionate, thorough and accessible! She follows up with you after procedures and gives you her cell phone to call if necessary! This is a Dr. who actually CARES about your health and well being, not your pocketbook! What a concept. Someone in the health care field who actually CARES! She truly understands the "whole body" concept and how your oral health impacts your entire health. She gets that my Lyme disease is causing my receding gums, not that I'm "brushing too hard" as other dentists have reprimanded me for! Really? I'm an adult with sensitive gums.........they actually think I don't know how to brush? PLEASE! They don't know what THEY'RE talking about! Dr. Solis does! She deals with many extremely sick patients and is knowledgeable about the connection. If you have health issues, this is Dr. to see! I had been going to a terrible dentist in the same building, and was really hesitant to go to another. My insurance provides amalgam fillings for free, and I'm all about the freebies, but this dentist refused to accommodate me. After meeting Dr. Solis for the first time, I realized I'd found my home. The front desk is nice, the staff is nice, and Dr. Solis tells me how it is in plain English. She doesn't try to up-sell, shows me what needs to be corrected (which is very reassuring) and *nicely* harped on me to floss more. I admit- I'm anti-floss. She referred me to a GREAT orthodontist down the hall to get braces and my first TMJ stint (which the previous dentist had blown off) and I go back twice a year for cleanings. She's even noticed that I've been flossing. Needless to say, a little over a year later and my teeth are great, my wallet is fine, and I've referred a number of people to her office.
