I truly feel I need to warn any potential consumer with an aggressive or working breed, that Sit Means Sit should never train their dog. I took my aggressive dog to this training program for a board and train and I explained that my dog has reactivity issues and had recently bit someone. Sarah ensured me that they had work with these types of dogs before and that this program would help us to walk him on a leash. The program mentality is that the e-collar was a tap on the shoulder and that the dog had to make the decision to do the command. After talking with several dog behavioral experts, with a working dog with aggressive tendencies, they need to be trained with the mentality that the owner is in charge and making the decisions, for the dog to follow lead. Additionally, when I started taking him to group classes, Canyon would lunge at all the participants. I asked Sarah multiple times to have 1:1 sessions and she continued to make me go to highly stressful group sessions. For the amount of money I paid, that shouldn't have been the response. I have since realized that they no longer do group trainings as they found them ineffective. As such the training program did not work for Canyon, and I am extremely disappointed because I invested a lot of money. I am going to have to pay for new training, and have asked for a refund to help pay for the training to get my dog the help he deserves, otherwise he would need to be put down. The owner refused my request, even though the program didn't work. Which goes to show you that they are driven by money and not the well being of the dog.

Sally came to our house, spoke with us about our training goals, and developed a plan using techniques that were comfortable for us. In a few sessions, Sammy's problematic behavior disappeared and he is currently extremely well adjusted and very bonded to us. As our goals evolved, Sally invited us to her fenced property to work on recall in a distracting but safe environment. That, too, has gone extremely well! As a veterinarian, I appreciate Sally's approach to "training the trainer" and her ability to adapt to each dog and owner, as well as the unique relationship between the two. When I asked her head trainer on his thoughts, he responded to just "schedule a private." Don't worry, they're only $200, after the thousands given for the 3, 2, and 2 week long board/trains and refresher. This time last year, my dog did her last refresher and I removed her from MSK9. We went on to work successfully with behaviorists in December for reactivity. How disgusting to set a working level at a 17 on a 6 mo old puppy. The use of the prong and e-collar in this institution is appalling. I'm not against these tools, but the people handling them are not worth your money nor your dogs well-being.

She was very stubborn and I disagreed with my mom's preferred method of training using "corrections". And the training I learned/used for my dog wasnt working for Mia since she was so stubborn and my dog was/is so eager to please so quickly picked up training. So Patty came over and gave me a hand and after an hour and half session, Mia was learning how to sit on command. Patty showed me some tips and such on how to get Mia to pay attention and make the sessions "fun" for Mia's breed and to get her attention and motivation up. Mia was then quickly trainable and in the 30 days we were given to get the dog trained, Mia was sitting on her own, doing down stays, and her recall was improving greatly! I have also called Patty for some behavior tests/issues my 2 year old border collie/malinois mix was doing for me. Honey likes to bark randomly and when people come by or simply walk by the house, so called Patty to help me with trying to get Honey to settle down a bit in that regard. I'll probably call her back to help some more once I get into another place without as many dogs and different rules regarding barking. She helped me see that I needed to give honey another distraction when I expected guests so as to help with Honey's anxiety levels which also contribute to her cause in barking. She even let Honey keep the puzzle ball she used to help reward/distract honey while we worked with her. I have also called Patty to help me with Honey's recall. She is one of those dogs where you give her that one little inch, and she will take a foot. :) so have to stay on top of her. Honey is also an agility dog, so I needed to strengthen her recall as we had an attention/recall issue in our first trial. So Patty met me at a nearby park and helped me get honey's attention and recall improved and honey has greatly improved in basic coming when called (she was good before, but like i said, slack off a bit and shell take advantage), and has helped greatly in the agility "ring". Hopefully will pay off when we do our next trial next month (October), where the objective is to at least finish 1 of our 3 events (we didnt get to finish our 2 last time because we ran out of time and/or she got too many "off courses" cause she would get distracted and walk away from me! Overall, I highly recommend Patty. She is very personable, rates are good, uses positive reinforcement (ie treats/rewards) and comes in handy for those "touch ups" that dog's sometimes need. I obviously cant say much in regards to puppies/no training at all and need multiple sessions to learn the basics, but for dogs with some training that need touch ups or behavior consults, Patty is definitely handy. I also like the fact that its one-on-one. So no need to pay for a "session" to acquire the same lessons in a group setting with minimial attention given to you and your dog. She makes sure you know what you are doing and feel comfortable before the end of your session(s). And I have called around to a few places/people and Patty's rates were by far the best for private one-on-one training.

We got our rescue 3 months ago and he's been so amazing, but there have just been certain things that we didn't know how to train him on. Now we know how to work with him, and even 4 days later he's already starting to show big improvement! Cathie said that the main reason people return dogs after adopting them are for issues that can often be trained out of, but often we just don't know how to do that best. That's why she does this class. I'm so happy we went to it and will recommend it to anyone who is looking!

Frenchies are well known to b somewhat stubborn and can be a challenge to train. Last week while I was going out our front door she pushed by me and bolted. She loves to run, and ended up across the road and about 50 yards away at the end of our neighbors drive. Knowing I couldn't catch her, I stopped and called her name and the command to come. She immediately turned and ran at top speed back, stopping in front of me. This is due to the training she received and so far she's only been to four sessions. We all love our dogs and view them as members of our household, and as such you owe it to yourself and your dog to have a well trained and behaved animal. I was very disappointed to find out that the groomer is leaving (after something like 20 years) and that they are not planning to replace her. I just moved to the area and I am used to being able to have my dogs groomed (at a minimum have them bathed and brushed) before I pick them after being kenneled. So I find this a bit irregular. Why not hire another groomer???
