I have never met a doctor like him…read more My husband has faced more medical challenges than most people experience in a lifetime--cardiac arrest, heart transplant, dialysis, kidney transplant, strokes, prostate cancer, parasitic infection, diabetic wounds, spine, rib, and tibia fractures and surgery, amputations... and that's just the short list. We've grateful to have been blessed with excellent medical care over the years, but we have never encountered a physician like Dr. Nassir. We were referred to him after more than 20 medical visits in a single month. My immunosuppressed husband had developed an aggressive squamous cell carcinoma that went from a tiny pimple to a 5 cm x 4 cm x 2 cm thick blackened, mushroom‑like mass on his right temple, extending under the skin to a large lump at his parotid gland and into the lymph nodes in his neck. After consultations at three premier medical centers, we were left with little hope. We were preparing to go home and make the best of what we thought would be his final days. At a last visit with my husband's long‑time primary care doctor--someone we trust implicitly--he told us, "Not all the best doctors are at the premier medical centers," and said he knew the best oncologist in the area. He texted Dr. Nassir, explained the situation, and Dr. Nassir told us to come in at 9 AM THE NEXT MORNING. Not in two weeks. Not when convenient. The next day. At that first visit, Dr. Nassir spent TWO FULL HOURS with us. He carefully reviewed my husband's extensive medical history and every test and consultation from the previous month. While we sat in his office, he called multiple physicians--including two who had already seen my husband and two nationally recognized experts. Every one of them picked up the phone. His assistant, Jose, worked seamlessly beside him, taking notes, pulling records, and preparing referrals in real time. What would normally take weeks happened in a single visit. By the end of that visit, Dr. Nassir had a clear plan: urgent surgery, followed by concurrent radiation and chemotherapy. For the first time in weeks, we felt the fog lift. We left knowing exactly what needed to happen and who needed to be involved--including a radiation oncologist who has since been repeatedly confirmed to be the best in his field. Throughout that visit, staff members quietly stepped in with urgent issues from other patients. Each time, Dr. Nassir gave them his full attention, then returned to us without missing a beat. The new‑patient paperwork had warned that wait times could be long. After that day, I knew I would never complain. If I ever wait to see him, it's because he is giving someone else the same life‑saving attention he gave us. Since that February appointment, my husband has undergone successful surgery and is now nearing the end of a seven‑week treatment plan--five days a week of radiation at Cedars‑Sinai and two days a week at Dr. Nassir's nearby Cancer Care Institute (chemotherapy, IV fluids, labs, and nurse practitioner consultations). He is doing well, and we are hopeful he will beat this cancer. At the very least, we now have more time--time for his two young grandchildren to truly know and remember their grandpa. The entire staff has been exceptional. * Sona, the office manager, knows us personally and creates a supportive environment. * Rosanna and Nana, the chemo nurses, are skilled and attentive. * Mark and Madeleine, the nurse practitioners, ensure every concern is addressed and reviewed with Dr. Nassir. * The front office team is constantly busy yet always available and kind. I would not hesitate for a moment to refer any friend or family member facing cancer to Dr. Nassir. He and his team are in the business of saving lives, and they do it with expertise, urgency, and extraordinary humanity.

On Thrusday july 23 I call and informed The Onclocy Institute and i was informed it would be sent to the Imaging center I call and set up. As of July 27th my order still has not been sent to the Imaging center I set up. Additionally, it take forever to get through to anyone; it does not matter what department. I have spent more than 45 minutes on hold with the authorization department and when I complained about how long it was taking to get my order set over to the correct Imaging center I was put back on hold.... From blood draw labs to x-rays, urgent cares to hospitals, ultrasounds to MRIs, primary doctors to specialists and everything in between; I review them all. For newbies or those simply dropping by; long story short is that I am VERY sick suffering from multiple terminal and chronic health conditions - some of which are baffling doctors (I'm talking to you, mystery rash/skin condition!). Trust me, I'd rather this not be my Yelp claim to fame, but here we are. I'm coming at you hot with another medical review: this time with The Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation. The Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation was founded in 2007 in nearby Cerritos with the aims of providing state-of-the-art care for cancer, blood diseases, etc. They apparently have more than 60 locations and have expanded to several neighboring states and even as far as Florida. My Medi-Cal insurance authorized me to visit the clinic in Burbank under the Oncology Institute umbrella. Situated near the intersection of Alameda/Buena Vista across the street from St. Joseph's hospital; this location sits in one of the large medical buildings at this plot. Parking is rough in the area with free street parking (usually filled) so you may have to resort to the paid parking garages. The clinic is on the third floor: make a right out of the elevator and directly at the end of the hall. This location's main doctor, Dr. Saghi Esfandiarifard (that's a lot of letters!) is apparently at the top of her game with education, accomplishments, appearance in medical journals and awards. Sounds like this place would be fantastic, right? Well, there is a reason for the negative reviews. Things immediately started off on a sour note when I called to make my appointment as a new patient. I was on hold for 40 min and 38 seconds (see photo) and no one answered so I gave up. The next day, attempt #2, I was on hold for 21 min before FINALLY being answered. Of course, I received no apology or acknowledgment of the 41 min inconvenience. Strike #1. My appointment wasn't scheduled for TWO months out! Strike #2. The two months pass and I was called the day before to confirm my appointment. They called me back AN HOUR LATER saying they have to reschedule because the doctor wouldn't be in the next day. How did this change in an hour?! After waiting two months, and with less than 24-hour notice, we had to reschedule for two weeks out. If patients did that, we would be fined (in fact, they charge a $25 cancelation fee). Strike #3. Did they apologize? No. Strike #4! I arrived to my rescheduled appointment to a spacious lobby (I think it was recently painted as there were still plastic coverings on the wall trims); but with no welcomes or smiles from the three receptionists behind the counter. In fact, one of the girls literally just stared at me in silence while another was scrolling on social media on her cell phone. Strike #5. On the up side, this is the speediest wait at the doctor's office I've ever had as I was retrieved to take my vitals in about 10 minutes. I was still filling out my intake forms! Once my vitals were taken, I waited in the exam room for the 'doctor'. But I never saw the doctor! I met with Elaine Crane, the nurse practitioner! Why did they cancel my first appointment if I was never going to see the doctor to begin with?!  Now, don't get me wrong: Elaine is fantastic and I loved her. She is patient, personable, listens and answers questions with easy-to-understand explanations and isn't dismissive like 98% of doctors. I'm glad I met with her but I'm simply saying that the dramatics of the cancelation wasn't necessary if I wasn't going to see the doctor, anyway. Elaine requested more blood work and would be getting an authorization to see another specialist before I return for my follow-up. I happened to leave my water bottle at the office which I noticed when I got home. I called to request for it to be held until the next day. The next day I showed up again to the most disgruntled receptionists who apparently knew NOTHING about the water bottle (this office has no inter-communication) and made me feel quite stupid - Strike #6! Luckily, they found it in the area where they take patient vitals. This place is seriously a hot mess with 6 strikes: the scheduling of appointments, canceling the appointment, the receptionist TERRIBLE customer service (or lack thereof), etc. Elaine Cramer, FNP is the only highlight here unless I meet with the doctor at my follow-up and she blows me away. For such a "state-of-the-art" cancer facility ... the Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation is more on the hopeless side. Very disappointing.

Therefore, I can speak to the actual consultation, surgery and follow-up care. All the consultations, pre-op imaging, and labs were thorough and timely. He discussed options, the actual surgery, and possible complications weeks before I entered the OR for the actual procedure. I had questions about intra-operative monitoring of PTH levels. and anything that could go "sideways." He discussed each in detail so I would be clear going in. One year later, the scar has healed perfectly, my calcium levels are back to normal and I feel good. In the interim, I've had follow-ups and labs as required. In doing my own research, I found that parathryoidectomies have the best outcomes when performed by a surgeon who has extensive experience in that particular surgical niche.
