I'm so happy that we've finally got a locally-run coffee shop for the neighborhood! Karol Coffee just celebrated their one-year anniversary this spring, and they've established themselves so well. Their staff are so kind and welcoming, and their drinks high-quality with fresh beans. My parents say they're so spoiled on Karol's excellent drip coffee, they can no longer drink Starbucks and Caribou brews. I'm a latte-lover and love to see what their specials are. Current fav is the Girl Scout caramel delight-inspired. They get very creative with their flavors, such as their Garden Cookie Latte made with a rosemary sea salt and mocha syrup. This shop is also very kid-friendly, with a play area inside and outside. Fun Fact: Named after Karol Józef Wojtyła, better known as Pope John Paul II. We went on a Saturday morning, and it was definitely pretty busy! There was a line out the door, but luckily, there were plenty of seating areas. Tucked away in a cozy residential neighborhood, the cafe has a really warm and homey atmosphere, almost like you're visiting someone's house. The Garden Latte had a stronger rosemary flavor, which was definitely noticeable. The breakfast sandwich was yummy, and the Sparkling Blackberry Iced Tea was super refreshing! This is a review specifically for the truck that comes to the NE Farmers Market. I love their coffee! The workers are always super welcoming and nice as well. Updated to say: I come here for the fenced in outdoor area for my toddler. I am never OVERLY blown away by my drinks anymore (besides their birthday limited edition drink which should be a regular menu item) and I can't justify paying nearly $9 for an iced vanilla oat latte unless it's my birthday or a special occasion. My husband just paid nearly $8 for an iced mint tea this week (which was very good, I must say) but for a cup of half ice and half tea...I might as well get the comparable tea at Starbucks and save a few bucks. If they didn't have an outdoor area I wouldn't come back anymore. read more

A tale as old as time on this page, hubs and I were driving around looking for a new coffee shop. Karol Coffee is an adorable coffee shop in the midway area of St Paul. Are you KIDDING me with how perfect this coffee shop is. They have a very nice selection of coffee drinks and a pretty typical display case of baked goods. Actually, the latter they seem pretty proud of because when I came in this weekend the very friendly barista had pretty strong opinions about what coffee would go well with what baked good. I wound up with an awesome hot vanilla salted caramel latte and a nice chocolate croissant. But what really stays with me is how lively and enjoyable the environment is. Lots of families from the surrounding residential neighborhood, which is right on the Northern edge of St Paul, as well as people on their own making progress with their laptop activities. They have a lot of ourdoor seating, including a fenced in area which I assume is meant for dogs. There's a separate kids area with toys, and if you go further back there is a gift shop with very cute artisan items. This is a very happy place that I hope you will try! read more

I stopped by Karol Coffee this past week & what a treat!! It truly feels like a neighborhood staple, tucked into such an unexpected spot, i thought it was a house. It's right by my work, so I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did! When you walk in, there are people gathered at tables both inside and out, and the space actually extends much farther back than you'd expect... even into a little hidden area or annex in the back. I ordered from their spring menu and got the pistachio rose latte with oat milk, along with a breakfast sandwich they customized for me without meat. Everything was delicious, and the vibes are immaculate! I'm already excited to go back on a sunny day to sit at the picnic tables or head into the quieter annex type rooms to get some work done. What a cute cafe in the cutest Como Park neighborhood! I was surprised how busy they were on a Monday late morning but I can see why after trying their locally roasted coffee. They had fun drinks and I was very pleased with my Vanilla Bean Caramel Latte. It's made with goat milk and vanilla bean caramel sauce. The staff was really friendly. The place was SO busy and there really wasn't much seating available. This might have been because the weather wasn't great so outside seating wasn't really an option. The scone was delicious and so was the coffee. Probably wouldn't get the cherry cola cold brew again as the syrup flavor was too strong and fake tasting. The perfect blend - literally. Karol Coffee has been the most fabulous addition to the Como area and each part of the building is designed with such charm and character. I attended the Valentine's Day event and had previously stopped in prior to the shop being completely done and I was shocked with the transformation. Entering from the back of the building, you will be transported into a small antique area with drip coffee and a quieter area good for reading, sipping drinks or browsing the items. I scored a bronze candle holder and some lovely incense. Other items include baby clothes, Slow Burn beeswax candles, trinkets, picture frames, pottery and more. There is a long connecting hallway which wraps to the front shop where there is a comfy area for children and a big green couch. There's a few small tables, nice bathrooms and a giant barista bar. It is very important to note that the front room is not big so being aware in the colder months as opposed to the warmer months the when the exterior patio can be used for more space is nice to forecast accordingly. The service is top notch. Even on an event day, staff members were slinging coffee and pastries with a smile. Many of the pastries including the ham and cheese croissants are baked locally from La Boulangerie Marguerite. I gifted some gluten free espresso donuts to friends and those were lovely as well. For my drink, I had the Valentine's one day only menu item of the chocolate covered strawberry latte. I was pleased to see that when ordering to sit down, the drinks are prepared in a pottery mug - another bonus! I took my drink to the back section as it was much quieter and less busy and was able to snag a table and read my book. I look forward to many more visits to try other menu items and I can't wait to see how the legacy progresses forward for Karol Coffee. Thank you, thank you!! Como was missing a shop like this. I think this place is a bit of a hidden gem!! It is absolutely beautiful inside, their holiday decorations were simple but rustic, the perfect vibe!! I stopped here randomly as I've been trying to find more local coffee places to try out that I haven't been to. Karol's coffee was great place to check out. This place would be the perfect summer stop with the area they have in front of the shop with picnic tables. The area inside is perfect for working, dates, catching up with friends. It was definitely busy in there when I popped in there so that's always great to see! I had the ice caramel latte and let me tell you. The caramel they have and I'm guessing make in-house has cinnamon in it. I've never seen that anywhere before and it definitely made for a unique but delicious taste with my latte. I had a breakfast sandwich that was small, pricey and sort of a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich that they warmed up. The ham and cheese croissant was ok but the ham was like ground ham. I was excited to finally see that Karol Coffee had opened. We have been there three times and all three times we left because there was no room to sit inside and it was either raining or too cold to sit on the picnic tables outside. The coffee shop is very small and it looks like it has become the local "work space" for many people. Today when we walked in there were 8 people with their computers open taking up 8 tables. While I understand that people like to be out of their homes while they work, it has created a shop that no longer offers space for people to just be able to go with a friend to enjoy a cup of coffee. We ended up going to Mim's nearby on Cleveland which is locally owned and has an enormous amount of space for people. we are sad that Karol's doesn't work for us.... read more
