I wish I could give them a 0 star but not an option. In no specific order their (helper) Earnest is not only rude, but also has an obvious low intellect, and lacks the ability to converse with customers in a manner that would be deemed appropriate or even normal. For him it's an obvious low self esteem issue, but the owner/s should have recognized by now that he is not at all equipped to deal with the public. This is not only my opinion but is shared by numerous others. Items you consign will go missing on occasion, nobody can tell you where they've gone, and you'll hear the familiar phrase.."Don't worry your missing items will show up somewhere on another sale" ..Well they don't. On one memorable occasion I took the liberty of innocently grabbing a single Timbit from the counter, and when it was halfway in my mouth, good ole Earnest screamed. "Dude what are you doing?" I exclaimed "having a donut am I not allowed one?" to which Earnest felt it necessary to school me on the fact that these donuts were for staff and staff only and how dare I. It should be worth noting that I have on at least 7-10 occasions over the years brought not only an assortment of donuts, but also sprang for full jugs of Timmy's coffee along as well. When I mentioned this to Earnest he retorted. "I know you have but rules are rules." When I walked away in shock and disgust, he insisted on following up the conversation outside as he claimed I "had to learn" When I refused to listen unless he apologize to me, he exclaimed, "When you see me from now on don't even look in my direction." All I can say is wow..you simply can't make up something like this. I was once one of Kastner's top buyers, ( not by my admission but theirs ) Shortly after this total debacle I had a major break in at my property, which precluded me from coming in to deal with a few items I had purchased from the previous sale. Due at least in part to this, the manager Steve decided to revoke my bidding and purchasing privileges..After all these years and many many thousands of dollars spent at their establishment this is what I got in return. However, the very good part is , no more hassles, no more missing items, and best of all no more Earnest. Good riddance Kastner's, I'm sure others have and will continue to be aware of just how shoddily run and low class you have become. read more

If you want to pay for floor sweeping and the waste from auctions buy their lots and they send their garbage too. They also show pictures and descriptions when you get the item just aren't there - is an empty box. read more

I have never dealt with a front end staff member that was so rude, condescending, or unprofessional in my life. I actually thought that I may have ended up on candid camera. I thought the back end guys were rude! they are a treat compared to this woman. after reading so many other reviews, I have to agree. this place is a complete mess. for the amount of money they pull through that place, you Would think they could put up some proper signage. thank goodness they aren't the only auction house in town. won't be back. don't recommend. read more

Kastner Auctions is the worst auction house I've had the unfortunate experience dealing with. Ripped me off for $108. Took my money for a toy(charged my credit card), then, never responded to my emails or multiple phone messages left to them to arrange shipping. I've never had this happen to me in 10 years of online auctions worldwide. So, watch out when bidding with these guys. I was using this auction house to sell my items , I was making good amounts of money for a while but then some of my items disappeared like some Coins and Flash Cards I confronted them and was told they could not find these items , Kastners is under New Ownership I sent emails and left messages to the owner and all of a sudden my things reappeared mind you they ripped me off eg 2 Glow in the dark $ 2 coins they gave me $ 5 each I could have got a lot more if they were properly auctioned off than 2 Older Flash Cards again if they were properly auctioned off I could have way more money then what I got , in my opinion who ever was getting these items ready for the auction hid them for their own gain to sell them off , Kastners policy is they are not responsible for lost or stolen items , they Banned from their Auction well lucky me no more stolen items I only got my items back because I told them I talked to Consumer Cooperate Affairs they control all Auction Houses Licenses ( And I did talk to them ) Another thing they did was screw me over was I brought in $ 2000 worth of brand new Vapes and Tanks I told they guy who was checking my items that I wanted Sold Separately not in bundles he told me do not worry he would take of it , so what does he do he bundled them up I did not see this till I was watching the live auction they sold for $ 10 a bundle so $ 7 each in my pocket for a total of $ 70 afar cry from a possible $ 1000 In my opinion STAY AWAY FROM THIS RIP OFF AUCTION HOUSE YOUR ONLY SAFE WHEN YOU HAVE HIGH VOLUME / VALUE ITEMS TO SELL. read more

Typical auction house where the motto TRULY IS "Buyer Beware". Have bid on several guitars just by looking at photos. Hint: never do this. I didn't pay much, but I still paid too much as when I took it in for service/rehab to a guitar shop, it was deemed unfixable and not worth putting ANY money into. Will, I guess, sell it for parts on EBay or something. Most of what Kastner sells for guitars is truly just junk. I've looked at a lot of it. Really just bottom-of-the-barrel junk. So if you are bidding on guitars, go down and look at them first. Don't bid more than 50 or 60 bucks if you haven't looked at the guitar in person. Was promised a quote for shipping but was never given a quote and was auto charged to my credit card. 2nd: An item in the auction was misrepresented in the title. Multiple items were missing making the item essentially useless. Zero effort to resolve the issues, only empty threats of being banned. WILL NOT BE SHOPPING HERE AGAIN. this review is over due as i wanted to write it but couldn't find it. i spent the day watching and waiting and bid on some items. when the shipment came the two best pieces were not there. i called and they said you were outbid on the bracelet "at the last second " despite announcing i won the big. i asked about the necklace which i was charge for and they came back to the phone and said they "had beed robbed"i asked for my money to be returned and they said they could only give me credit. not able to show proof they were robbed. i fought it with my bank and no luck. i am not going to waste that kind of time looking at items and the waiting to bid on them only to not get them. it was a stressful experience and i learned my lesson. only read more

Unlike most auctions I've been to (and for reference that's not a large number) the selection of stock I saw was much more useful than most. I won't say they're "high quality" but I will say if you're looking to find something cool for dirt cheap they're worth checking out. I was tempted to buy a leather couch today... But where would I put it? Damn. The shop itself is a little shaggy. I know it just needs to be a place that sotres junk, but I like a little effort to show through. I live in Calgary and so use the online auction site. We in fact make Sunday our mandatory stay at home and watch auctions day. So we have bought from and watched more than a dozen auctions now. In that time I have learned some important lessons. They post the items a few days ahead of time for you to look through and bookmark the ones you are interested in. You need to know that if you sign in on your iPad later but you made the bookmarks on your Laptop than the bookmarks will NOT appear on your iPad even though you have signed into the exact same account. This works well for Colin and I because we use the same account since he pays for it but our bookmarks are kept separate so we don't get mixed up by each other's stuff. If you aren't in our situation though this might suck for you if you can't remember the lot numbers you liked out of over a thousand items when it disappears because you logged on from a different computer. Now I didn't learn this part I just did it because I research everything before I buy it especially if it's second hand but always to make sure I'm not grossly over paying. You might think you have a pretty good grasp on prices but a lot of the items if not most are not a good deal. There are always gemstones up for auction and people tend to pay more for the higher carat stones. I practically yell at the screen "what is wrong with you idiots if you want to throw away money I need some". They pay $30 for a 50 carat ruby gemstone. You can buy an entire bag of these for that much, like a scoop of them. $30 for a 1.5 carat ruby would be more reasonable. So knowing what you are buying is important. Keep in mind your total price. Kastner is a little greedy (in my opinion a lot greedy) with their commissions and fees. Keep in mind when you buy your items that you must add 22% to each item for tax and their fees. When watching the live auction you will notice a difference in auctioneers and experience a difference in people running the bidding and online part from kastner. You will hear the auctioneer asking the bidders on the floor if they are willing to bid in increments of $2.50 or $5 and you won't have that option on some days or even just part of the auction when lazy tech people are running it. This sucks and can make you miss out on a lot. They also have a pretty funny auctioneer and he can make the experience fun and he pays great attention to bidders on the floor and online. They also do multiple lots where there are more than one of something people can buy. Maybe there's twenty sweaters of a few different sizes. They will do the bidding and then whatever the top bid is will win and take how many they want. After that anyone else can buy what's left at the winning price. Normally they make sure everyone who wants one gets one. Some days they don't even wait a few seconds to see if anyone else wants one and you have to call in. Now I've called in and they will claim they do this because they are busy and need to get through lots. The issues are: A: After 6pm the auction is still running but you have to wait till the next day to call and get one and by then they are often gone. B: They are REALLY bad at customer service and professionalism when it comes to calling in. I don't like doing it. C: It adds a total of a min to five mins for big multiple lots to sell off all the items people want. It takes at least that each person who calls in. It's just not smart. I called in once because an multiple lot was skipped over after one person was allowed to buy one of them. The guy who answered told me he didn't take care of that and set the phone on the counter(I wasn't on hold it was just sitting on the counter so I could hear everything) he told the girl she needed to handle the call, I heard her say yup when I'm done with this call I will. I then sat on the phone for twenty mins listening to her answers about three calls, talk to two customers and then stand around and joke for half the time with someone. So I hung up and called again. She tells me I must have called the wrong number.( I called the exact same number she answered. I even hit redial to call back) that she was busy that entire time and did not even have time to notice a phone on hold. I told her I wasn't on hold and I heard her the whole time. Instead of apologizing she just asks me what I want. I tell her the lot number seven times because every time she repeats it back wrong( it has two numbers). Then she finally says yup got it and hangs up. In fact pretty much any time I call in they don't repeat back the name so you know they are shipping the right stuff. They don't even say at least one item on the list so you know it's your stuff. They just aren't super professional. For what they take in fees they should not have any of these problems. If I were them I'd work on these they are pretty important issues to a successful business. read more

This place isn't for me. I was really upset a few weeks ago when they had an electronics auction and bid several identical TV with different numbers on the auction numbering sheet all in one bundle saying, "4 TV's, 4 times the money!" Then auction all 4 individually numbered TV's as one to the highest bidder! One guy paid $400.00 more than the sale selling price on 2 of 4 55" LED TV's. they did however ask the audience if anyone else wanted to buy the remaining 2 TV's for the same inflated price...plus 10% buyers fee....My friend and I walked out and bought a TV off kijiji instead. The experience was totally unacceptable in my books and I will NEVER again spend money or my time at this place. I did however get a deal one time. I bought a used chop-saw for $23.00. read more

The storage auction last Saturday was a fiasco. They only had one poor girl doing all the order taking and registrations. Over 100 people showed up to bid on about 40 lockers and vehicles. When people bought something they had to wait till the end of the auction to pay and start loading. They had a number system, I was 14. I waited an hour then wend out for a drink. Came back to find that she scrapped the number system. I loaded and left and phoned in my payment by credit card. A friend of mine waited 4 hours, what a waste of a Saturday. I have been to many storage auctions. Usually they will have one staff manning the office taking payments as the auction continues. This eliminates the 4 hour lineup at the end for customers. The auctioneer took off at the end of the auction leaving this poor girl to do all the work. She was only able to process about 4 people per hour. I hope their next auction is more customer friendly. This one was a disaster. I have been a long term customer and usually the auctions at the main office are great. This was just a bad day I think. The auctioneers should have seen what was going on and stayed to help the poor girl. I look forward to a huge improvement next time. The auctioneer was great as usual, funny and pleasant. read more

It's the only non reserve auction that I ever went to and there was reserve on just about everything some things went for 5 times retail it was nuts for a auction it almost made me sick after being there for 6 hours they where less than half done and the auctioneer took ten mins to close a bid because he was trying to get another 5 bucks out of some poor sap who should have won the bid anyway I'll never go back and I do tubs of auctions yellow head are a bunch of ripoffs too read more

I've been shopping (and consigning) with these guys for many years. They are without a doubt the hardest working auction house that I've ever been to. They are super professional, clean and treat their customers fairly. They take pictures of every single auction item and catalogue it regardless if it's worth $1 or $20,000. They've fore sure taken auctions out of the stone age with modern technology. I've also gotten some really great bargains here. I bought a solid wood dresser and night table for $60 + tax in perfect condition (I've gotten a lot of compliments on it). That's not to say that they go for that every week. But it is a treasure hunt with some really nice surprises fore sure. I love Sunday online auctions - what's better than having your morning coffee in your pj's bidding on bargains from your home computer? Love it..... read more

I have been watching this auction house for awhile now. Something is just not right here. The place is very very seedy looking not organized at all. What I'm am concerned about is I keep seeing some of the same items carried over from one auction to another from week to week even though it was supposed to have been sold. I could see if it didn't sell but I was in attendance and saw various items sold and then the following week they were back under a new number. I thought maybe it was a duplicate item but we marked it for id just to see and it was the same items back again. If they are bidding items up and then dumping them that is highly shady and very illegal. All I could say is buyer beware, I still will shop here but I am very cautious on bidding and have somebody watch the audience and the internet to stop dubious bidding. If they do not get what they are asking, they quite often pass and will not sell item. Commissions are really high compared to other auctions. If they have multiple items, they will only sell at that price, they will not re open the bids. Bid on some hardwood flooring once, they had over 10000 square feet, bid $1.00 per square foot, right away next bid jumped up to $2.00, I quit bidding. The winning bidder got it for $2.00 square foot, and only took 50 square feet (sort of suspicious, who would only want that amount), no one else took any, then they would not re sell at a lower price. Do your research prior to bidding on their new items, lots of times their minimum price is almost the new price. They are turning more into a liquidation store than an actual auction house. Used to enjoy Kastner sales, but will not be returning. Greed has become their downfall. read more

Not a good place to auction your belongings. I see remarks about being over priced to buy, that was not the case with our experience. Lost a lot of money using this auction house. When the auction is actually over, you must wait a week to even find out how things went. No one will even tell you if they even sold, for how much, or if they're still sitting on the shelf. 100% wished we just kept everything, and taken the time to sell ourselves. read more

I have been dealing with Kastners Auction for over 6 years now. I have on occasion dealt with other auctions and find that Kastner is the only auction I wish to deal with - whether I am buying or even selling. The items I have purchased are always clean and working. If there is an issue they deal with it right there & then. The staff are great people to deal with, they are always friendly and helpful. The merchandise Kastner sells is of good quality and you can find some really cool collectible things there - whatever your taste! My first experience was to buy a Christmas present of a helicopter listed as brand new. After paying $25 gave as a gift. Now I just learned that it is does not work so I would have been better off spending more money and buying from a retail store where I could return and get my money back. The second helicopter I bought listed as brand new was given to me in a plastic bag not even in a box and this is total scrap material. Also paid $25 for this useless item.
