I'm not a big makeup person and had never had it professionally done, so when I was looking for someone to do my makeup for my wedding I had no clue what I was doing. Be aware her deposits are 50% of the wedding total and non-refundable, this was not discussed and was only in fine print on one section of the contract (not stated in our emails or her FAQ sheet). I made the mistake of paying the deposit and signing the contract for my wedding before my trial. Kat would not reserve my date without the deposit and contract (understandably) so I felt pressured to do so. After my trial, I was not happy with the makeup. I wanted a "wow" moment but instead felt it was too much makeup and I did not feel special. I told her when booking I was excited to see how I would look contoured, she did not contour at all. I told her I like very light coverage with spot concealing. She used a light coverage foundation but then covered larger areas (redness in my cheeks I don't care to cover) with a heavy amount of concealer then a heavy hand of powder foundation. I usually never have an issue with how my makeup wears but at the end of the day it was breaking up around my mouth and chin and settling into my smile lines. I didn't feel the eyeshadow was blended well and I had to clean up my eyebrows as the powder was smeared. She told me she'd check in with me at the end of the day but didn't. I decided to reach out and texted her my thoughts (I was freaking out) and she never got back to me. I had to reach back out again and email her a few weeks later and she made me feel like I was disrupting her work life balance by texting her the night of the trial, even though she promised she'd reach out to me. I wish I'd done a trial before booking because I am now out the trial plus the wedding deposit ($600+) and will do my own makeup. Weddings are already expensive enough! read more

Although I wanted a natural look, I still wanted to look a little glammed-up and be positive my makeup would look great throughout the afternoon/evening. Kat knocked it out of the park! After I initially reached out to her we emailed back and fourth leading up to my wedding weekend and we exchanged ideas/photos of what exactly I wanted. One thing that Kat did that impressed me was ask for a photo of myself and my hair (I hired her to style my hair, as well)... no matter how many Pinterest inspiration photos we shared, the only way Kat would really know what would work for me was by seeing ME! We did not have a trial-run, due to me being in the East Bay and unable to work one into my schedule, but I felt completely confident in Kat getting it right on my wedding day. And that she did! I came to Kat looking for a hairstylist for my wedding day. Kat told me she was available for my wedding date and also mentioned she does makeup as well. She convinced me to cancel with my current makeup artist and to go with her for both services. I scheduled a trial with Kat and paid her a deposit. We were in the process of scheduling a trial date when she abruptly messaged me saying that she has other inquiries for my wedding date and that I would need to give her an additional deposit in order to reserve my day. It was my impression that my original deposit reserved my wedding date and I found it completely unprofessional for Kat to extort me for more money when I have yet to trial her services. I am now stressed to find not only a hairstylist, but also a makeup artist in an extremely short timeframe. Apparently with Kat, a deposit does not mean that she will guarantee your date! Kat rocks! Admittedly, shopping around for my hair and makeup professional for my wedding was one of the more nerve racking parts of the whole process. I looked at salons and websites and honestly was kind of turned off by most of what I saw! Kat helped me put loosely vague image of what I wanted in my mind to life for my wedding with both her fantastic Makeup and hair styling skills. Initially Kat's website and the fact that she was close by to me in San Rafael drew me to set up a trial for my wedding day make up. Her studio is right off the Redwood Highway (101) between the Freitas Parkway and Lucas Valley exits. Really convenient for me as that's very close by to my home. The studio itself is well lit with natural light, so you are going to get a very close look to how it would be on the day. Prior to my trial, Kat has asked me if I could share with her a Pinterest board of the types of looks I was looking for; a very 1920's-1930's look, think "The Great Gatsby". To be honest I think I did pretty poorly on finding the right images. However after talking it through quickly with Kat, she got the gist and was all onboard. The makeup itself turned out fabulous. We used a spray on foundation which stayed on all day and kept me looking flawless. I originally didn't plan to do much with my hair, as I have really short pixie hair. I really would of liked to do something like finger waves however I wasn't sure if I had enough hair to complete the look. I was desperately trying to grow my hair out to see if could work out in a test run that I would hastily try by myself. Then just as I was getting ready to hack it all off, Kat messages me and asks if she could give it a try. And we did! Couldn't quite get finger waves as I still didn't have enough of my hair, no fault to Kat! She quickly turned it around and made a fantastic different sets of curls that help completed the look. It was super windy on the day of my wedding, while my hair did blow around, the curls stayed intact and great throughout the day.
