I found this stylist through a Groupon ad. I was a little wary of going to a hidden shop in Marin rather than a well-known salon in SF. I was apprehensive when I first met her, but I quickly got a sense of Sarah's expertise once she began talking about products & looking at my hair. I have dark brown hair with a few (traumatic) grays and a lot of brassy red. She turned it into a shimmering, rich, deep mahogany -no red but still warm enough to reflect light and shine brilliantly. I noted all the products she used. This is expert, quality care that parallels anything done at the top salons, but for discounted rates (I'm somewhat high-maintenance and not so easy to please, as you can tell from other reviews..) The relaxed salon in Marin was a pleasant respite after dealing with the usual stresses associated with high-end San Francisco (no parking, crowded, expense, etc..). read more

I am so very thankful that I found Sarah (well actually my planner found her but still). I had hired another company based in Santa Rosa to do my hair and makeup for my wedding. I waited until just a month before the wedding to do a trail. I figured, they specialize in weddings, they know what they are doing. Big mistake. I left my trail feeling like an overdone barbie. I was freaking out and called my planner in a panic. She immediately got back to me that she knew Sarah who had my date available and could even fit me in for a trail after work MUCH closer to San Francisco that week. The second I met Sarah I felt at ease. She is funny and easy going. She listened to my concerns and went to work. A few hours flew by and I felt beautiful and became excited again for the big day. On the day of Sarah was LIFE SAVER. I decided the night before the wedding I wanted to wear my hair up and not down. I was a pain in the butt bride because I was changing dresses after the ceremony and had two very different looks. Sarah took everything in stride. I felt so calm around her all morning. She kept reminding me to breathe and making me laugh throughout the whole day. She was AMAZING. She even came to venue and stood with the photographers during pictures to help fix my hair and makeup. She stayed through the ceremony and was able to take my updo down and give me an entirely different look for the second half of the night. Even though she didn't need to, she touched up the bridesmaids, flower girls and even my mom throughout the day. Her personality is contagious and we all found ourselves sad when she left because we loved having her there so much. Most of all, I have never felt more beautiful in my life than I did on my wedding day. I felt like a beautiful version of myself. My husband isn't a big fan of makeup and we joked leading up to the day that he wouldn't like me with a bunch of makeup on but he changed his mind when he saw me day of. Sarah is an artist. She is kind, loving, warm and INCREDIBLE at what she does. If you want to look like the most beautiful version of you on your wedding day + be reminded to breathe, book Sarah. Sarah Hyde did the make-up and hair for my bridal party this past weekend. OUTSTANDING!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! She was so professional, punctual, completely reliable and did an oustanding job. She arrived at my house at 8:00 AM and worked for at least five straight hours on myself, my mother and my four bridesmaids. She and her assistant brought the highest quality of products and made us all look so beauitful. We all had such different types of hair and a variety of preferences and she combined her creativity with our style. It was also over 100 degrees when I was taking my pictures and my make-up did not run and my hair did not go flat from the balls of sweat around my hairline. My husband said that he had never seen me look radient. Sarah Hyde made me feel so glamourous for my wedding and I could not be more grateful. One of my best friends, who's about to get married, says that weddings make you crazy. You start thinking about and doing things that no sane person would ever do! Like, for example, driving twice, for an hour and a half, to get your hair trial done. Or, you know, spending hours looking up hairstyles on the internet and making your stylist redo your hair when the curls don't look quite right, even though to pretty much every other person in the world it would look great. Ugh. Thankfully, Sarah deals with this stuff like a pro. Our first trial took an hour longer than expected, and I still wasn't happy with my hair (and kind of panicking, because after dropping a bunch of money for a trial you really don't want to start the stylist search all over! Aaahhh!) . We agreed that I would come in for a secondary trial, at no further charge(!) so that we could be sure to get my hair right! Thankfully, the second time was great (and she even took the time to redo my foundation to resolve some issues we had the first time around), and at the wedding it was absolutely perfect. She did my mom's makeup as well, and my mom looked lovely. She doesn't wear makeup very often, and it made me so happy to see that Sarah did her makeup just right, not overdone at all, and made her look so beautiful. Everyone else whose hair/makeup she did was very happy as well, even my mother in law who I think may never have had her hair or makeup done in her life before. And, additionally, she brought in a professional lamp because the room where we got ready was kind of dark. All in all, I felt like she really went out of her way to really make things work. She was even willing to accommodate me when it was looking like one of the hair appointments wouldn't happen, and not charge me for it, although it was on really late notice. Luckily we found someone else to take the spot. In short, Sarah is a great stylist, a great makeup artist, and really goes out of her way, beyond what you would expect, to make sure that you are satisfied with her job. Like the reviewer before me, I too am a makeup junkie and do a pretty darn good job on my own makeup. More often then not, I end up redoing it after having it professionally done because it's never quite exactly how I wanted it. Sarah did my hair and makeup for my wedding last month, and it was *exactly* how I wanted it. Actually, it was way better than whatever it was I thought I wanted. She has tricks and and an eye for color and shading and detail that, in my experience, no one else has. When she was done, I looked like the bride I always wanted to be. And she comes with an amazing team of incredibly talented and professional assistants who will dote on your mom and bridesmaids too. I had six bridesmaids, my mom, and MIL all getting their hair and makeup done, and the morning ran perfectly smoothly. This fabulous team somehow even made time at the end of the afternoon to fit in two impromptu services for other family members. While her assistants worked seemingly effortlessly away on all these women, Sarah focused on just my mom and me (somehow, without me having to say a word, she knew this was what I wanted) and timed it perfectly so she had a big chunk of time to devote solely to me. She also made sure there was nothing to distract her OR me while she was working her magic, which I so appreciated. Her calm, cool (but also very sweet) demeanor is *exactly* what I needed in those hours before the big event. She anticipates what's important to you, the bride, and firmly yet discreetly makes sure everyone works around that. I would have wanted her there just for the company! I think Sarah would make a fantastic psychologist, but luckily for us brides, she chose to become a (phenomenal) makeup artist. Do yourself a huge favor and book her for your wedding. read more

I have had hair and make up done a bizillion times and found Sarah Hyde to be among the very best. Each of us four bridesmaids, the mother of the bride, and the bride herself loved what she did for us. Rather than trying to apply a single look to the whole wedding party, she brought out the best features in each of us. She used excellent quality products (Laura Mercier, Chanel, MAC) and somehow made us look great both close up and far away/for pictures--I didn't feel like I was wearing a make-up mask yet it lasted all night. The best part of working with Sarah was that she is such a genuine, lovely person (and easy on the eyes!) who helped maintain calm in a room with five women preparing for a wedding where things could easily get hectic (I suppose the bottomless champagne helped too....). She also does amazing hair, but for this gig, she teamed with Kathleena Gorga, who did all of our hair (see my review). $600 for the bride and $200 for the bridesmaids--not inexpensive but worth it to feel special for the big day and to have perfect pictures for life. read more

Sarah is completely amazing!!!!! I was introduced to her by my wedding planner and couldn't be more pleased with the end result. I went in for my trial appointment in September (my wedding wasn't until July, but she is so good that you have to book early!!). I didn't see Sarah again until my wedding. She remembered everything (she took pictures and detailed notes) and was such a pleasure to work with on my wedding day. We had hair and makeup done for my entire bridal party, flower girls, my mom and myself. In the end, it was 15 people. Sarah brought an amazing team of professionals with her. Everyone (and I really mean it!) looked stunning. I have been a bridesmaid so many times where the hair and makeup is just awful. As stated in previous reviews, Sarah is a total find-a gem. I have a maternity shop and we use real live pregnant customers for our photo shoots (I am sure much to our photographer and Sarah's chagrin) Sarah has worked with us for years and she is amazing-a magician and a pro! Sarah Hyde is a fabulous make and hair professional, and I can not imagine having had anyone else there on my special day!! Sarah did a great job and kept us all on schedule. I felt confident to go forward with ease after how good I looked at our prior wedding makeup and hair trial. The great news is I actually looked even better on my wedding day. I had visited two different hair and make-up stylists before meeting with Sarah and still wasn't convinced they were right for me. Needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled when I had my consultation with Sarah and she nailed the look I was going for (which wasn't an easy task since I'm the sort of person that knows what I don't like - but can't describe what it is that I actually do like). I was also drawn to her warm, down-to-earth personality and sense of humor. When it comes to make-up, she has a wonderful way of making you look flawless and bringing out your best features, without making you look like a totally different person. I started freaking out the day of the wedding because my hair is fine and doesn't always cooperate. Sarah handled my situation like a true pro -- she calmed me down, and kept working with my loose up-do until it was perfection. Like a lot of brides, I was tired/stressed the week of the wedding... I figured all my pictures would need a good dose of Photoshop to hide just how worn out I was. But that wasn't the case at all. Sarah did an absolutely PHENOMENAL job on my makeup and hair for my wedding in Napa Valley on August 25, 2012 (just a few weeks ago!). Sarah made me look and feel absolutely amazing and not only served as a stylist/beautician but also as a partial therapist on the day of the wedding! I was experiencing so many nerves (not about the guy I was marrying- he was the best, most exciting part!) but about the weather, and some family members that were stressing me out, etc. etc. and Sarah kept me SO calm. I actually kept repeating a mantra she told me in my head every time I would get a little anxious... "Everything is going to work out" or something to that effect! Sounds silly but it actually really helped! Sarah and I got along beautifully from the moment we met. She has a great, fun personality but isn't overbearing at all. On the wedding day she showed up on time (and our venue was tricky to get to!) and had all of the best products and makeup and hair tools in tow. Her assistant did a great job on the Mom and and bridesmaids and Sarah focused BIG time on me, the bride, which I appreciated so much.
