I've attended training here twice, and the quality of instruction is excellent. The trainer is knowledgeable, professional, and provides a great experience. However, I've had consistent issues with scheduling and communication. Appointments have started late, and I've had to follow up multiple times just to book sessions. While I understood being charged for a missed appointment, I've also had to remind staff about payments and encountered difficulty getting responses--most recently calling twice without securing a booking. The training itself is strong, but the administrative side needs improvement, as it impacts the overall experience and business I hope this feedback reaches the trainer directly. Truly a game changer for my dog and my understanding of how to handle my pit bull terrier. I sent my 6 month old puppy to this training facility for one month because she showed rambunctious, out of control and slightly aggressive behavior. My puppy was out of control one day to the point something needed to be done and a friend recommended katana saying they were the best. They were able to take my dog right away because it was a bit of an emergency situation (as I said, she had done something shocking and very bad) which was amazing of them to make a next day opening. One month passed and I went to go pick up my dog and did the final two training sessions, and now I'm wondering why I have not done this with all of my dogs, as I have three dogs (now only one is properly trained) it was definitely worth it and I am amazed with how well-behaved my dog is and so many commands that she knows, it's incredible!! I cried tears of joy getting her back and seeing her improvement. I know I have a good dog for life now, and I can grow from this training and keep training her. I have changed as a dog owner! The other amazing thing she was there over the holidays, and they sent me the cutest Thanksgiving and Christmas photos of her all dressed up, and they also sent me videos of her being very well-behaved in public and doing commands. She is flexible and as long as you communicate with her she goes above and beyond to help her clients schedule sessions. She has always been understanding of situations that come up and rarely have they canceled training on me and I have been with them for 6 years now, if they do it is ALWAYS for a good reason. She also has been fantastic when scheduling for boarding my dogs when I am out of town. I literally never have to worry about them even when one of my dogs was recovering from surgery and I had to go out of town unexpectedly, they took amazing care of him. Juan is a top notch trainer, the best of the best. He shows this with his ability to teach people how to understand their dogs better and his patience in sessions is unwavering. He understands not everyone has the same skills and if you are diligent enough and work with him you WILL become a great handler. He takes more time than necessary to go over concepts so you understand why you are doing things and not just tell you to do them. We did the 3 week program for our puppy and was only 6 months at the time. My spouse found the place on yelp. We met with Jessica in person before making a decision. After leaving our American pit bull with her. We felt need to reach out for updates and videos of our dog. She mention how our dog was a bit more timid and shy. We felt that if she was struggling with our dog. She was not able to perform and train our dog the way she is used to she should had brought that up to our attention in the begging. Instead our dog was beat and returned to us with a missing toe nail and injuries all around her body. This absolutely broke my heart and made me very disappointed on Jessica and her work ethic and environment. I cannot believe the day we pick up our dog she had the audacity to ask that she wasn't sure if our dog lost her name at our home before we drop her off. The wounds where fresh so clearly it happen under Jessica supervision. She was held responsible but instead she had every excuse and didn't take responsibility at all. Dog owners beware. This company is a fraud. They were willing to take my $ upfront, have me sign a contract that states if you don't receive all sessions within 4 weeks you forfeit your costs. They cancelled on me for personal reasons on their end, and I was understanding, compassionate and patient. Life changed in the in between and I no longer had the dog who I had bought the package for so requested a refund. They hadn't delivered due to their personal reasons which we were fine with but then everyone got busy and forgot about each other. Jessica is refusing to refund my costs, she is blaming me, she is pointing out the contract and highlighting the part that says we had 4 weeks to receive our sessions, despite my clarifying for her that it was due to their personal reasons the sessions were cancelled. I am honestly in disbelief. Who does that? It's hundreds of dollars and I didn't even think about it until recently, and she is blaming me for not requesting the refund sooner. I requested the refund within 30 days which I think is more than reasonable, but instead Jessica has opted to hold my money hostage although they didn't deliver and now I no longer have the dog. Talk about getting something for nothing! It's basically like paying Starbucks for your order at the window and then they're like oh sorry come back later the barista is sick so you're like ok cool I understand and hope the barista feels better soon. You forget you paid for the order already and then later when you remember you ask for a refund since now you don't drink coffee anymore and they're like oh sorry you should have come back sooner. Um, no??? It's businesses like these that make me wonder how they're even still in business. It's stealing. Thievery. Taking my money and not delivering. She did offer to transfer the sessions to my other dogs but they're already trained so I don't have the need for that, although that was nice of her to offer but I would rather have my money back since the package was for a specific dog who I had at the time but no longer have currently, and my other dogs aren't in need of the service and aren't the kind of dogs you would take to a K9 Academy anyway. Ugh, I felt the need to share here because I have legitimately been ripped off and scammed. I tried to get Jessica to see where I was coming from and to see how requesting a refund and asking for it within 30 days is more than reasonable, but she is very defensive, and placing blame on the client (me), which to be honest is so unprofessional I almost don't know what to say about that. I was going to post a 1-star review, but her husband Juan is cool so I'm going to consider it a 2-star experience since he is nice. If I were rating Jessica alone it would be a 1-star experience. I can't speak to the results of their training as I only had a couple of sessions before she cancelled, so this review is primarily concerning Jessica's unprofessionalism, disregard for my reasonable refund request, discourtesy, rude communication, and stealing from me. I made a mistake coming here. It seems good on the outside and maybe they're good with dogs, I'm not sure as I didn't have enough of an experience to really even know on that, but administratively, professionally and financially, I would definitely not come back. I still can't believe she is holding my funds hostage and refusing to give it back when they didn't deliver. Huge bummer as I thought I was hiring a 5-star company when we initially found them on Yelp and reached out, but I can see that since then their ratings have gone down so obviously their quality has gone down. Jessica trained my dog Archie (Bernie's Mountain) at the beginning of 2018(March). Archie went through 3 weeks off leash training. My daughter and I spotted Jessica in Burbank Mall while she was training a St. Bernard. I was absolutely impressed of Jessica training technic and how devoted her pupils are to her, she never raised her voice or showed any signs of distress. Prior to Jessica, Archie went through several other trainers (they all highly reviewed and recommended trainers), but Archie showed no discipline of any kind, no understanding or obedience at home. Jessica told us right away what would be needed of us and how long after 3 weeks we will need to do basics with Archie to reach and achieve our goals. Archie is about 100lb dog and 8 weeks ago we welcomed another child to our family, a baby boy, so I new, Archie been in house dog, needs to be trained for my peace of mind and Jessica did just that, she provided and good foundation and gave us tools to utilize them on our own. She trained not only our pet, but us too. Since March we have given Archie to her for boarding on several occasions. I would absolutely recommend her as a trainer and dog companion. read more

I rescued a puppy that had been abandoned and dumped by their owner. needless to say, he was so happy and carefree just wanting to love on everyone to point of out of control. i felt I was going to have to rehome him cuz of his high maintenance. When we first got Teddy we had no idea he would get so big. He is and was a good boy with a lot of love to give. Unfortunately he didn't know how to give it no matter how hard he tried. He was clearly a protector and with his size he would intimidate people and other dogs to the point where we would worry someone would call animal control. I cannot tell you how amazing this experience of training was. My puppy was all over the place with biting, nipping, digging, everything -ing. I have a toddler so I needed to make sure he was well trained and I am just emotional writing this because it worked out so wonderful. It was a night and day difference. I can finally handle him and he listens! Just know that you are being trained as much as the dog so you have to learn the commands so the training and coming back home is a smooth transition. I wish there were more stars on here . After having a bad experience with a trainer I decided to try it one last time. I found Katana K9 Academy (Jessica) on Instagram and I couldn't be more thankful. Her and her husband don't just train dogs. They play with them and treat them like their own. You can tell they both have a passion for what they do. I did the 2 week Board and Train with my 10 month old GSD Rambo and he came back a changed dog. He had bad anxiety from the last trainer and I needed he wouldn't hold his commands. Well what do you know. I got back what Jessica said I would and some. Jessica and her husband are incredible trainers! We handed over our beloved 1.5 year old shepherd/husky mix because he was starting to try to really bite at people, especially after being a puppy during the Covid lockdowns. It was certainly hard to let him go for a solid month but he is a completely transformed dog. In the week that we have had him back, we can take him in public, into stores and most thrillingly he can be off leash and respond when he's called, "leave it" and he pays so much attention to us now. We can really do anything with him. There are some reviews about communication from Katana on here and I just wanted to say that it can sometimes be a little challenging to get ahold of Jessica but as she explained to me, it's because she runs this mom and pop shop where their focus is the dogs! Any delay in communications is only because they are doing amazing work on so many dogs with difficult issues. I highly trust Jessica and our dog Leo is so much more confident now, and knows how to regulate his emotions, as do we. Life is much easier now! read more

Jessica is experienced, professional and loving. I had my Yorkie with her for 3 weeks. She taught him everything that I could expect and more. She stayed in touch as frequently as I needed and sent pictures regularly. When he came home she was very patient training me how to implement the training at home. If anyone needs training now it's me because the dog clearly knows what is expected. I recently took him back for boarding and wasn't sure how he would react. After a week of boarding and training, paired with my continuing enforcement at home, Otto no longer pulls me on walks and is calm when we see other dogs!! Horrible! I do not recommend at all! We payed almost 3,000 and sent our 8 month dog specifically because she keeps going potty in the house. She was gone for a month and when she came back she wasn't trained other than the commends of down, place, wait, and come here. We were able to go see our dog and I truly believe it is because she didn't work with her. Whenever I'd call to get an update about my dog Jessica would always say That she needs more time with her. waste of time and money she just had our dog for a month for basic training that could have been done at a local petco. My dog also came back with sores all over their body and she told us she has a vet friend who said there is nothing wrong with the dog but it was a bacterial infection! SAVE YOUR MONEY. If I could give them a million stars I would!! I adopted my dog from a shelter and she had dog aggression due to her past. I really wanted to provide her with the best life possible so I was referred to Jessica by my friend. I was immediately interested just by looking at their webpage. She got back to me with in a very short time period suggesting the training course best suited for my dog. She explained everything in great detail and made sure I was comfortable with the program. She gave me constant updates on my dog throughout her stay. Over the weeks she spent there she has completely transformed! When walking by dogs in the past she would be insanely aggressive where as now she hardly has any reaction at all! She's extremely obedient and can think very clearly around other dogs now. We are so glad we took our puppy to see Jessica!! I was super reluctant in the beginning to have our puppy away for so long and also if it was going to be a worthwhile process or not, but we just had our 4th child and I knew we needed to try something. Boy I couldn't have been more wrong! Our dog came back and we were shocked. A close friend of ours came over and she couldn't believe it either. She probably mentioned it at least ten times how awesome it was that he's changed for the better and that it was the first time she enjoyed being around him. I want to also bring up about the balanced training. This was another thing I was skeptical about in the beginning. I think the majority of us have bought into the falsity that the e-collar is a "shock collar" and that it basically "electrocutes the dog all over" and "how horrible it is," etc. Again couldn't have been more wrong! Once Jessica explained what the e-collar was, I made the connection that it's basically a TENS machine my husband uses for his muscles at home. I've also had TENS machine used on me when at the Chiropractors office. So once that connection was made, it gave me such great ease on incorporating that into the obedience training for our puppy. That with the positive reinforcement makes for a excellent balance. You can really tell that Jessica loves what she does and takes great care and pride in her modalities of training. She gets great results. She meets with you after to help you get more confident in your skills as an owner to keep up what she has worked on with your dog. I couldn't speak more highly of her skills and the training our puppy received. What a relief to have a well mannered puppy that will listen to you and be your companion. Went to meet up with Jessica and her husband and they nipped my dogs reactivity in the bud. Just very straight directions from Jessica and Thor complied to my commands in no time. We've worked with so many other trainers and none have achieved what she has achieved with our dogs. She took our two dogs for a 4 week board and train. She was very flexible and worked with us with our schedule. She updated us every day or week on all the progress our dogs had shown! She would send us pictures and videos and we couldn't believe those were our dogs! Utter transformation! Jessica worked wonders on my 6 year old anxious shih tzu - he suffered from separation anxiety and excessive barking, after 2 weeks at the Katana K-9 Academy he is fully trained, completely calm and able to willingly sleep in his crate every night with no barking! This is a complete miracle. It has completely changed our interactions, I am no longer stressed and he is much happier with the discipline.
