    Hair cut for my daughter
    Carolina G.

Took my daughter for a haircut with Kate. Called before going based on the reviews didn't know how busy it wouldn't be. Plenty of parking she's located on the second floor. I paid $40 for my daughter to get a basic haircut we just trimmed her a good amount of her ends. Nothing crazy just straight. Kate didn't wash or dry or style her hair just a cut. I did think this was a bit pricey just to cut her hair. However we were there already and my daughter wanted a hair cut. She didn't leave it straight and was so sweet. My daughter was happy with her hair cut and that's basically all that was important.

Bathroom Selfie at Spring - looks pretty good and staying intact, even with the wind blowing at 6:30pm.

This the first time I've ever been to this location. They are location right across from Sizzler on Vermont Ave., and they are on the 2nd level above Think Nail Salon. I've found them through Yelp. Based on the mixed reviews, I decided to take my chance, and made a same day appointment at 5:30pm to get my hair curled before going to Spring and 71 Above. After the first visit, let's just say, this is by far one of the most aggressive hair washing and hair curling sessions that I have ever endured. Parking: Free and spacious, but they do start valet parking by 5:30pm (I got to the lot by 5:15pm). When I got there, the salon was empty, and so Kate and her assistant was waiting for me. Kate is owner with blonde hair. She's a nice and friendly lady. Her assistant (didn't catch her name) is the lady with the straight brown hair with subtle blonde highlights, and is taller than Kate. Her assistant was friendly and welcoming at first. She had me store my purse in their storage compartment, and then showed me to their dressing room so that I can get a robe to wear. Afterwards, her assistant got down to washing my hair. Holy smokes, this woman shook my head a lot while twisting and tugging my hair in between rinses! Her shampooing skills weren't tender. The purpose of going to a salon is to feel relaxed, massaged and pampered, but damn, I was on edge with this one. At first, their shampoo station chair was hella short, and the assistant didn't even pull up the leg rest for me, and so I was feeling cramped, and sliding down while getting washed. The assistant also put a towel over my eyes, and it didn't stay put since she kept shaking my head while shampooing. I ended up holding onto the towel until she finished. The only good thing I liked about her washing my hair was the little head scratches in between - that I liked. Once I got into my chair, Kate came over and started blow drying half of my hair while her assistant worked on the other side. Kate was friendly and got to small talking with me for a bit. She didn't speak a whole lot of English, but enough to understand that I wanted my curls tight, hair parted on my right side, teased/volume on top and back of my head. She also did asked me my nationality, and showed me an ornament she got from Singapore. Once they finished blow drying, here comes the pain. For the tight curls, Kate used a 1/2 inch or ¾ inch curling iron and hair sprayed in between. Her assistant was flat ironing the back of my hair to get it straight, and again with the aggressive tugging. While curling my hair, Kate kept tugging at the root of my hair with each curl, and omg, I was freaking out inside! I already had fine hair, and was worried that she either might burn my hair or worst, pull it out. The assistant was watching my face every time, and she wasn't happy that I was wincing (well duh!), and brought me some magazines to distract me, but damn, I couldn't read it because the tugging was too obvious! I wanted to trust Kate, but internally, I was thinking, this was hella painful. I did appreciate that in between curling, she checked in with me to see how I'm liking the styling so far. Once Kate finished curling (whew!), her assistant was working on teasing the top and back of my hair. She did a good job, but I didn't appreciate the little snide, giggling comments she made to Kate about my hair or scalp (yes, I have some acne, but who doesn't?). Even if you're speaking another language, but yea, universal tone is obvious. In the end, Kate did one last inspection of my hair to ensure I was happy with my style. I was happy with my style, and yes, my hair stayed intact throughout Spring and 71 Above. I was very pleased. Overall charge for hair curling and style $35. This review I'm writing has mixed feelings. I loved the outcome of my hair, but I don't know if I want to come back to endure the tugging and aggressive shampoo washing again.

This place is amazing, I wish I can put 6 stars! Deborah is a good salon artist Place is good, and cheap too for the service. I feel very welcomed when I just go inside ! I will definitely come back with more of my friends :)

Came here again to get another trim to even out how my pixie is growing out and was happy with the service! She washed my hair and cut it bluntly according the picture I showed her....but the one thing that made me squirm was when she touched my bangs. She trimmed them a little too short and I instantly felt a little sad, but with a handy pair of scissors when I got home I made it work. Also I made an appointment for 5:30 and didn't get seen til 6, but I understood because sometimes people want a haircut their way and that's how it should be so I wasn't bothered by it. But two guys came in at 6 who had appointments at 6 and 6:30 so they were just like awkwardly mad at me lol WHATEVER. I felt a little rushed because of that.

Called on same day on a Saturday and Kate was able to see me for a blowout which I must say did a nice job. She's always welcoming and kind

Yuji was my hairdresser, and he was so kind, precise, and skilled with my haircut. When I first walked in, I thought, "ah this really is a no frills hair salon," and I'll admit I was a little nervous since it was my first time and I didn't know what to expect. As soon as I sat down, my nerves went away. Yuji was so gentle and attentive, and I felt really well taken care of. My appointment lasted about an hour and included a wash and cut. Parking is validated for up to two hours, which is definitely enough time. I was so happy with my results. I truly don't know how Yuji creates such magic with his hands! I'll be coming here from now on for my haircuts. Please show Yuji and Hair Craft your support by leaving a generous tip. An establishment like this that truly gives you high quality results for such a generous price deserves to be met with gratitude and good tips. Too many salons are charging an arm and a leg for a basic trim these days, and Hair Craft is not one of them. There were only 1-2 stylists working during my visit, so please be patient and make sure to book at least three weeks in advance. When I booked, they were already scheduled out for three weeks, and I overheard them telling other callers the same thing. Thankfully, it was absolutely worth the wait. I can't wait to come back and will definitely be booking with Yuji again. Thank you Hair Craft for such a wonderful experience!!!

I always need my hair thinned out, but my previous cut wasn't thinned enough, so I ended up wearing my hair half-up for the past four months. Celine completely transformed it! She gave me beautiful layers, thinned my hair exactly the way it needed, and added curtain bangs that frame my face so nicely. My hair feels much lighter, more manageable, and the cut looks great both down and styled. The price is definitely $$$, but for me, I was desperate for a hair remedy. Celine did a stupendous job, and I'm so happy with my haircut. I would definitely recommend her. She knows what she is doing.

However, when it came time to be seen, I was told it had been cancelled. It took multiple receptionists to realize that one of them had accidentally canceled it. The problem is that I was never notified. I didn't receive a cancellation email or text despite having notifications enabled, and no one could explain why I wasn't contacted. If I had been notified, I wouldn't have wasted over two hours driving. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. There was no tangible effort to make things right--no attempt to fit me in, prioritize me for another appointment, or offer any accommodation after I had cleared my schedule to see them and spent so much time traveling and waiting. I understand that mistakes happen, but unfortunately, I left feeling like my time wasn't valued, and I can't recommend a salon that handles scheduling errors this way. Additional note: My appointment was originally in August, but I rescheduled for July. I received a cancellation email for the August booking, but never the July one because I didn't cancel it. Edit: They claimed to have offered to schedule me with the soonest available appointment, but what's to guarantee that my appointment isn't mistakenly cancelled again? What's your new procedure to ensure my time isn't wasted? Will I receive an email notification this time? I can also schedule at home for your "soonest available appointment," so ultimately I was still offered poor customer service.

But I recently went to Samantha for a balayage and a root touch up and I genuinely think I got so lucky finding her first try. The color turned out SO good, like even better than what I originally wanted. I now don't have to worry about finding a stylist that will do my hair the way I want, she's genuinely so amazing. If you're new to LA like me and need someone to trust with your hair, go see Samantha!

Daniel is absolutely amazing! Not only is he an absolute sweetheart and an awesome person all…read morearound but he also truly takes the time to put his focus and care into each one of his clients. It was my very first time with The Hideout Salon and not only was he understanding of any scheduling rearrangements we had to make, he also made sure to make it a point that we would be setting enough time aside for what we would anticipate needing so that when the time came, there would be zero rush along with top quality service which makes a huge difference in customer experience compared to factory booking which sacrifices quality, time, and attentiveness for squeezing in numbers, and as clients we all greatly appreciate this! While I was waiting Allie was very sweet and settled me in/welcomed me and offered me something to drink. The decor of the place felt very cozy and cute. If youre a dog lover you'll also be very happy to probably see a friendly cute Lil doggo named Carl (Karl?) comfortably shimmying his way around the shop (and if youre scared of dogs dont worry, he really just does his own thing Lol). Hes So darn cute and floofy. I came in for both a color and a consultation for a potential cut. Because I sometimes tend to notice/look at details that others may want to gloss over or perceive as me overanalyzing, it felt really difficult for me to explain to others how my recent haircut from another place just a month or two ago had specific lengths and cuts in specific areas going around my whole hair that had left my previous haircut feeling kind of "off" in certain ways and that I felt was giving my hair the very slight illusion of looking shorter than it actually really was and a little "choppy" in some areas, which then had an effect on how it framed my face/widened it instead of helping elongate it. But when I explained it to Daniel, he totally got it and even held up the individual sections that he agreed were causing those effects, why it was creating the effect that it was and how we would resolve it. I was so happy that he not only truly acknowledges and makes it important to understand where his clients are coming from (whether its concerns or goals etc) but that he also has such skill and knowledge to be able to fully do so and hit the nails right on the head. The color was also beautiful as well and because I wanted something that was healthier than permanent that would also give my hair a healthier appearance (ie shine, softness, gloss etc) he recommended the demi and also mentioned that it would make it easier down the road for me to go lighter if I ever wanted to. The color blended and matched so well with the rest of my hair and everything from the cut to the color made me feel like all of my goals were achieved. Everything Daniel did with my hair left me feeling so *Bonita*, and he was just such a joy to work with and an awesome person all around. Thank you Daniel for this lovely experience :) -------------------------------- Parking: Since the salon is in the heart of Downtown, its best to try and arrive a bit earlier than your appointment time and to be prepared for alot of one way streets and quickly turning into the available open public parking lots closeby before passing the salon (to avoid having to go further down in a circle to get back to the parking again). I believe there are 2 or 3 lots before you pull up to the salon that have big signs that say public parking. If youre driving towards the direction of the salon, out of the 3 the first one youll pass is just self-service/pay which was the one I parked in, and the other two have attendants as you pull up to the salon. Im not sure if both of those allow open access to all, so i will find out the next time I go again :) The front of the salon itself can be very easy to miss so just make sure to park before you even pass it on your GPS and youll see a small little sign over a door that says the Hideout salon when you walk up. There will be a door code for you to enter so just ask the salon for the door code in advance so that youre all set to go when you get there as well :)
