I came in asking for a hush cut, but unfortunately left with a very uneven, choppy haircut. During the appointment, the stylist seemed very rushed and was cutting my hair quickly, which made the experience feel careless. When she blow dried my hair, she appeared surprised by how uneven it looked. I don't usually leave reviews, but I had such a terrible experience at Hair by Nelson that I felt others should be warned. I had a reservation and arrived on time--actually, I was the first one there. But to my surprise, Nelson decided to take another customer who walked in after me. No explanation, no apology. What's the point of having a reservation system if you're just going to ignore it and prioritize others? Completely unprofessional and disrespectful of people's time. When it was finally my turn, things only got worse. I clearly explained the style I wanted and even showed photos, but Nelson either didn't listen or didn't know how to do it. He rushed through the cut without checking anything, and the result looked nothing like what I requested. It was uneven, messy, and honestly looked like it was done by someone still learning how to hold scissors. And for that kind of poor service, I was charged a ridiculous amount. This place is severely overpriced considering the lack of skill and basic customer courtesy. It felt like he just wanted to get through the appointment as fast as possible and move on. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience from start to finish. I highly recommend you avoid this place. My entire family is hooked on Hair by Nelson. From my white-haired mother to my son, we have all seen the light. My hair is usually very coarse and wavy. Some like to call it "lion's mane" because it's so unruly. My son's hair is very very straight. No amount of gel or blow drying would ever make his hair stay the way I want it. It was time I cut my hair (I had a shag before, which made my lion's mane even more puffy and uncontrollable). When I went in with my son, Nelson greeted us and checked over my hair quality and said I should do a keratin treatment, which would settle my hair down while conditioning it. Next time I go in, I can do a setting perm which would set my hair in the perfect coif like I styled it but for now, I needed to strengthen my hair. After the treatment, my hair was so silky and straight. Nelson was so sweet. He speaks mainly Korean so I got to practice. Days later, my hair feels healthy, strong, sleek, and it still retained some waves but not in the same uncontrollable fashion. My son went in for a hair cut and came out with a perm! He looks like a kpop singer. His hair is so straight that the curls turned into just texture but it's much easier to style his hair now and he's super into it! In life you need a good lawyer, a good accountant, and a good hair dresser. I think I found mine! read more

I've been getting my haircut here for years. As a disclaimer, my hair is thick and wavy and can get frizzy so not a lot of hair stylists can cut it well. However, Nelson is great and always understood what I wanted (length, layers and thinning out my hair). And he's fast too! Normally, people would take about 1.5 hours on cutting my hair because of how thick and unruly it is but he can finish it all within an hour. Right now he is running the place all by himself as his assistant is unavailable, so he's answering the phone, washing hair, cutting, styling, etc so please be patient with him if the phone rings or he's finishing up with another customer. At the end of the day, he produced a great haircut, provided excellent customer service and I will leave feeling pampered and satisfied with how my hair turned out. And honestly, I think I only waited about 10 minutes from my appointment time and he finished within an hour and he never made me feel like he was rushing to finish it either. I've never dyed my hair so I cannot comment too much on that. I highly recommend this place. read more
