Leaving negative reviews is difficult especially when it is so personal, but this is necessary. Do not be fooled with the description of some of the hairdressers in this salon on its website. I fell into the trap. I booked a haircut with the "level 5" stylist Neely at this salon on Thu 5/2/24. She gave me probably the worst haircut I have ever had in my life. She has no talent, she needs to go back to school to learn how to cut hair. I told her I wanted long layers, showed her several pictures of women with long hair, told her I like the Jennifer Aniston style with long layers and not to cut more than 2 inches of hair, because I like my hair LONG. I had my hair shoulder lenght. This person does not hold back to cut mercilessly without any structure. I blame myself for not stopping her, she put the chair away from the mirror but still, I should have paid more attention. I thought she knew what she was doing, but she did not! She didn't show me the back when she was done. I saw my face in the the mirror and I thought she had cut off more than I expected, I paid and I left but I realized the next day when I washed my hair that she had left my hair a massacre. She left a hole in the back of my head, left my hair thin all over my head and especially at the ends, she cut inside the hair for no reason all over my head, the layers don't blend well at all. All my hair is uneven with short layers without shape. I complained to BreAnna the "manager", I asked for my money back, I didn't want to compensate someone who has done so much damage to my hair. She told me she was only offering me an "adjustment". Adjustment? To cut my hair even shorter! No way. She was rude and offered to hang up on me because I was unhappy, told me I was not welcome in her salon anymore, this place left me in tears. I do not recommend this "hair salon" whatsover. I went in for a highlight session & cut. Spent 4 hours in this salon, left with the worst highlights of my life & no cut. Went back for a redo, they gave me brassy / bright roots. I asked for half of a refund as my hair is now ruined & needs a full color correction. They said I could come back a third time...after spending 6+ hours there & having my hair damaged & destroyed, no thanks. This place boats high end, but is truly low in customer service. I had an appointment scheduled at this salon and had a family health emergency for my young son the morning of my appointment. I called the salon as soon as I safely could to let them know why I was not able to make it and they had already charged me the full cost of service - over $200 - before they had even spoken with me. I left multiple messages and text communications and was informed that the salon would not refund me any portion of the total due to salon policy, despite the unforeseen circumstances. I understand policies are in place to protect your employees, but you are in the service industry and this was handled extremely poorly and unprofessionally. No return phone call from your manager to discuss my situation. I will not be making any future appointments here and you should think twice before you do as well. read more

I am still blown away by how lucky I was to have found this salon. My husband and I have just moved to Greenville and, before the move one of the things I was stressing about the most was finding a good salon. After doing research, I was able to get an appointment for the day that I arrived into town and I am still pinching myself at how wonderful the experience was. I was welcomed by Kate (the owner) and Kay (my stylist) as if I were family and I loved the bright yet cozy atmosphere. Kay worked magic on my hair with 2 base formulas - one on top and one in the back. She added creamy balayage highlights strategically placed throughout and finished it off with a cut, shampoo, blowdry and style! I have to share that the blowout lasted a week! A few weeks later it was time for my husband's cut so we made an appointment with BreAnna who apparently specializes in male scissor cutting. His hair has seriously never looked better and he was equally happy with the friendly atmosphere and environment and has already booked his next appointment. TLDR: Just go there. Seriously. Especially if you need a cut and/or color correction. I highly recommend Kate Kandel Salon!! In fact I can't recommend her enough!! I went to another salon in Greenville and spent $300, only to have the stylist absolutely BUTCHER my hair - it was AWFUL. I'm telling you it was so bad that the stylist started crying when she was done. My husband, who is a total man and doesn't know the difference between brown and black hair said, "It doesn't look right" when I got home. My 21 year old daughter was like, "Oh mom... I'm so sorry." The color was crazy - glowingly white roots with several different shades of extremely orange brassiness all over, with almost an inch of bleached roots in the back with black color put over it (but only in the back). The cut ridiculously uneven - a lopsided razor cut that was not intended to be lopsided... it made my hair look straggly, like when a toddler tries to cut their own hair (moms you know what I'm talking about). The frizz was off the charts. I honestly didn't think it was fixable. I was worried I'd have to cut it ALL off and have a very short pixie cut. I showed Kate a photo of what I'd like, not thinking it was even remotely achievable. I told her, "This is what I'd like, but at this point just do whatever you need to do to make it look normal." Kate was able to fix my hair without resorting to a pixie cut!! She was able to give me almost exactly what I asked for!!! Talk about shocked and amazed!! I literally cried tears of joy when I got to my car. She did a *MAJOR* color correction and didn't try to skimp on the time she spent doing it. I now have a really cute, sleek blond bob and my hair looks so much fuller and healthier!! My hair has depth and dimension now (yay shadow roots and balayage)! I'm not sure if she's a magician or what, but I'm beyond impressed and have nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about Kate and her entire staff! Kate Kandel Salon is fabulous! I moved to Greenville from Los Angeles, where I was spoiled by a "celebrity hairstylist." I didn't think I'd ever find anyone as good in Greenville, but I have to say, Kate is better!!! She recently moved her salon into a new downtown Greenville location along the Reedy River. The esthetic of the space is beautiful, clean and peaceful, very spa like. Her entire staff is very friendly but also very professional. I also like the fact that she is continually educating herself and her team on the latest techniques. I went in to get a haircut evened out from a previous stylist. The owner did a great job evening out the mess from before but texturized my ends that ended up with my hair flipping out on the ends. My hair flips out like that when it's over texturized or at that awkward shoulder length where it rests on your shoulders. The owner Kate refused to take off some length to fix it. I received a response that it was from the "breakage" I caused when I tried to lighten my hair. My hair is broken at the top of my hair not the ends and shows the professionalism in her business. I now see what the other reviewer who talked about her experience is talking about with making up stories to cover up things. This could of been avoided by going shorter and cutting out the ends that were texturized instead of acting like she never did it. read more

I initially went to Kate for a color correction on blonde hair and she was honest about the process it would take to get me corrected and to the blonde shade I wanted. After meeting some people in our neighborhood, Kate's salon came HIGHLY recommended. They were able to get me right in. Like most women, I had that nervous feeling when going to her for the first time. It's hard to trust people with your hair! Much less someone you hadn't met before. Kate went above and beyond to make me feel right at home. She was honest with me about my hair and color but saw the look I wanted and achieved exactly that. It started with the rapid and professional response to my appointment request, and continued to the moment when we left the salon. I went for a blow out, and my thirteen year old daughter was having a haircut. We are visiting from New York City. We were booked with BreAna who was lovely and personable, and she was really good at what she does. She made my daughter comfortable, and gave her an amazing haircut. Wow, this salon was such a wonderful find! I am in town for a wedding and needed to get my hair blown out, so I was lucky to find Kate Kandel Salon on Yelp. From the moment I walked into the salon I was greeted warmly both by Kate and Kay. I saw Kay for a blowout, and let me tell you she was AMAZING! The massage she gave me at the shampoo bowl was the best I've ever received. I wish I lived in Greenville, SC so I could see Kay for my weekly blowouts.
