I had a highly unprofessional experience at Kate Kandel Salon that lacked basic pricing transparency and proper client consultation. During my consultation, I explicitly showed my stylist, Ansley, a video of the exact hair color goal I wanted. Not only did she completely miss the mark, but she was visibly unsure of how to do her job, requiring active guidance and formulation help from another hairdresser during my appointment.The biggest issue came at checkout. Ansley verbally told me she was charging me for "two toners" to keep the price down. However, when I looked at my receipt, I discovered completely hidden, undisclosed fees. I was charged a massive $95 base fee for a "Gloss Only" and an additional $45 for a "Gloss/Toner"--totaling $140 just for gloss products that were never verbally quoted or agreed upon beforehand.When I reached out to address the poor results and the confusing billing, the stylist was dismissive and claimed I never showed her the video. When escalated to the manager, BreAnna West, I was met with total gaslighting. She altered the timeline of events to protect her stylist, refused to address the deceptive billing structure, and explicitly banned me from the salon instead of offering a fair partial refund for the unapproved charges.Be very careful coming here. They use confusing à la carte pricing structures at checkout without upfront disclosure, and management will aggressively defend billing manipulation rather than practicing honest customer service. I have already filed a formal dispute with my credit card company for unauthorized charges. read more

Too bad I didn't read all these reviews before I went here. Sabrina was very nice. Talked a good talk, but did not deliver on the color. I acknowledge that this was a color correction, but really. She covered up the "money" highlights on one side of my face. I asked for ash and I got blonde. She said the toner should last 4 weeks or more. Sorry, just two washes and I see blonde. As far as the haircut goes she chopped the crap out of my hair. I have no idea what she did to my hair, but it is totally uneven on both sides and even the front is longer than the back on one side. I spoke with her today and she said her manager would allow a complementary toner on the awful highlights but made no mention of what a ridiculously gross haircut I received. Don't these girls know how to check to see if both sides are even anymore? This should be very basic for any hairstylist to do. Maybe the manager should have a class on how to cut hair evenly. And check it the proper way. Buyer beware, they don't disclose the cost of anything until you check out. I was quoted a certain price and it was $200.00 more. Not acceptable. I paid $ 600.00 for a total botch job . You would think the owner would have at least called me to see how she could make it right. At that price I should have walked out looking like a Rock Star! read more

Leaving negative reviews is difficult especially when it is so personal, but this is necessary. Do not be fooled with the description of some of the hairdressers in this salon on its website. I fell into the trap. I booked a haircut with the "level 5" stylist Neely at this salon on Thu 5/2/24. She gave me probably the worst haircut I have ever had in my life. She has no talent, she needs to go back to school to learn how to cut hair. I told her I wanted long layers, showed her several pictures of women with long hair, told her I like the Jennifer Aniston style with long layers and not to cut more than 2 inches of hair, because I like my hair LONG. I had my hair shoulder lenght. This person does not hold back to cut mercilessly without any structure. I blame myself for not stopping her, she put the chair away from the mirror but still, I should have paid more attention. I thought she knew what she was doing, but she did not! She didn't show me the back when she was done. I saw my face in the the mirror and I thought she had cut off more than I expected, I paid and I left but I realized the next day when I washed my hair that she had left my hair a massacre. She left a hole in the back of my head, left my hair thin all over my head and especially at the ends, she cut inside the hair for no reason all over my head, the layers don't blend well at all. All my hair is uneven with short layers without shape. I complained to BreAnna the "manager", I asked for my money back, I didn't want to compensate someone who has done so much damage to my hair. She told me she was only offering me an "adjustment". Adjustment? To cut my hair even shorter! No way. She was rude and offered to hang up on me because I was unhappy, told me I was not welcome in her salon anymore, this place left me in tears. I do not recommend this "hair salon" whatsover. I had an appointment scheduled at this salon and had a family health emergency for my young son the morning of my appointment. I called the salon as soon as I safely could to let them know why I was not able to make it and they had already charged me the full cost of service - over $200 - before they had even spoken with me. I left multiple messages and text communications and was informed that the salon would not refund me any portion of the total due to salon policy, despite the unforeseen circumstances. I understand policies are in place to protect your employees, but you are in the service industry and this was handled extremely poorly and unprofessionally. No return phone call from your manager to discuss my situation. I will not be making any future appointments here and you should think twice before you do as well. read more

I am still blown away by how lucky I was to have found this salon. My husband and I have just moved to Greenville and, before the move one of the things I was stressing about the most was finding a good salon. After doing research, I was able to get an appointment for the day that I arrived into town and I am still pinching myself at how wonderful the experience was. I was welcomed by Kate (the owner) and Kay (my stylist) as if I were family and I loved the bright yet cozy atmosphere. Kay worked magic on my hair with 2 base formulas - one on top and one in the back. She added creamy balayage highlights strategically placed throughout and finished it off with a cut, shampoo, blowdry and style! I have to share that the blowout lasted a week! A few weeks later it was time for my husband's cut so we made an appointment with BreAnna who apparently specializes in male scissor cutting. His hair has seriously never looked better and he was equally happy with the friendly atmosphere and environment and has already booked his next appointment. TLDR: Just go there. Seriously. Especially if you need a cut and/or color correction. I highly recommend Kate Kandel Salon!! In fact I can't recommend her enough!! I went to another salon in Greenville and spent $300, only to have the stylist absolutely BUTCHER my hair - it was AWFUL. I'm telling you it was so bad that the stylist started crying when she was done. My husband, who is a total man and doesn't know the difference between brown and black hair said, "It doesn't look right" when I got home. My 21 year old daughter was like, "Oh mom... I'm so sorry." The color was crazy - glowingly white roots with several different shades of extremely orange brassiness all over, with almost an inch of bleached roots in the back with black color put over it (but only in the back). The cut ridiculously uneven - a lopsided razor cut that was not intended to be lopsided... it made my hair look straggly, like when a toddler tries to cut their own hair (moms you know what I'm talking about). The frizz was off the charts. I honestly didn't think it was fixable. I was worried I'd have to cut it ALL off and have a very short pixie cut. I showed Kate a photo of what I'd like, not thinking it was even remotely achievable. I told her, "This is what I'd like, but at this point just do whatever you need to do to make it look normal." Kate was able to fix my hair without resorting to a pixie cut!! She was able to give me almost exactly what I asked for!!! Talk about shocked and amazed!! I literally cried tears of joy when I got to my car. She did a *MAJOR* color correction and didn't try to skimp on the time she spent doing it. I now have a really cute, sleek blond bob and my hair looks so much fuller and healthier!! My hair has depth and dimension now (yay shadow roots and balayage)! I'm not sure if she's a magician or what, but I'm beyond impressed and have nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about Kate and her entire staff! I didn't think I'd ever find anyone as good in Greenville, but I have to say, Kate is better!!! She recently moved her salon into a new downtown Greenville location along the Reedy River. The esthetic of the space is beautiful, clean and peaceful, very spa like. Her entire staff is very friendly but also very professional. I also like the fact that she is continually educating herself and her team on the latest techniques. I went in to get a haircut evened out from a previous stylist. The owner did a great job evening out the mess from before but texturized my ends that ended up with my hair flipping out on the ends. My hair flips out like that when it's over texturized or at that awkward shoulder length where it rests on your shoulders. The owner Kate refused to take off some length to fix it. I received a response that it was from the "breakage" I caused when I tried to lighten my hair. My hair is broken at the top of my hair not the ends and shows the professionalism in her business. I now see what the other reviewer who talked about her experience is talking about with making up stories to cover up things. This could of been avoided by going shorter and cutting out the ends that were texturized instead of acting like she never did it. read more

Wow, this salon was such a wonderful find! I am in town for a wedding and needed to get my hair blown out, so I was lucky to find Kate Kandel Salon on Yelp. From the moment I walked into the salon I was greeted warmly both by Kate and Kay. I saw Kay for a blowout, and let me tell you she was AMAZING! The massage she gave me at the shampoo bowl was the best I've ever received. I wish I lived in Greenville, SC so I could see Kay for my weekly blowouts.
