One of the best experience ever !! Felt like we were guests in her home rather than a cooking experience. She was so sweet and GENUINE and really wanted us to experience something we couldn't get anywhere else. She took the time to pair nigiri sushi with special toppings which made it very unique other than the amazing quality of fish and technique we picked up in make nigiri from the rice shape down to being one with the knife! Also loved the STRUCTURE of the class we moved from 2 different cuts of salmon to 3 different cuts of tuna and in between each of these rounds we got to each 3 to 5 pieces of sushi each immediately after making them! For her bachelorette, my friend asked to do a cooking class together and we are so glad we found Chef Kate. We could have done the traditional cooking studio route with generic and boring menu, but with Kate, we got a completely customized experience from start to finish. And truly, it was a full experience that went beyond just learning to cook something and eating. Chef Kate had impeccable attention to detail and helped us plan out the event to match our theme, decor, budget and tastes. She communicated with me mainly through e-mail since I was planning the event from the east coast where I live, but was also responsive with phone and messaging. She was always very professional, but also very friendly, prompt and thorough with her communication. When we chatted on the phone to brainstorm ideas and vision for the event, she really wanted to know what was our style and what we wanted to make it the perfect event for us. We asked for fun, creative, yummy and hands-on experience and she delivered this and beyond. She collaborated with us on designing the perfect 4-course menu for our party of 10 guests and even made almost-too-cute-to-eat inari rice balls that looked like Hello Kitty since the bride loves Hello Kitty! We were also working with a tight budget, but Chef Kate was extremely accommodating and adaptable to our needs and requests. Our event was held at my friend, the bride's parents home, and Chef Kate showed up on time, was very organized and set up everything we needed for the cooking instruction. She made the learning experience relaxed, fun and engaging. Everyone really enjoyed the food and took notes on tips and tricks to preparing the food and also how to plate and stylize the presentation of the food to be inviting and beautiful. Chef Kate was always very polite, sweet and smiling and took lots of photos for us, too. You could tell she really loves what she does, teaching others and that she takes pride in her business. She paced the lesson to make sure we had time to mix and mingle, converse and to enjoy the food. I also appreciate that throughout the event she checked in with me to see how things were going and made any adjustments to make sure we were enjoying it all. She also made the time and effort to follow-up after the event for any questions we had about the recipes because she truly wants us "students" to learn and be successful. I can't recommend Chef Kate enough. If I have an event in the future that calls for private cooking instruction, I would look to Chef Kate.
