i'll never understand the positive reviews and i regret placing my order with Kate's Town Talk Bakery. the food here tastes extremely plain and it has absolutely no flavor. their scones are horrible and it tastes like sawdust as well. their sausage rolls have no flavor either. even the grocery store sausage rolls tastes way better than this small business and that's sad to hear. i threw their food in the garbage and normally, i don't like wasting food but since their food tastes so horrible, it deserves to be thrown in the garbage since it's inedible. i will never come back here ever again. a waste of my money that i can never get back. stay away from Kate's Town Talk Bakery unless you don't care to waste your money. highly NOT recommended read more

I had tried Kate's butter tarts for the first time at a yelp event and they were memorable. Few days ago, I recommended this place to my lady friends who wanted to go for tea. We sat inside at the largest table by the window. There weren't many patrons upon entry and then around noon, dozens of people came through and for good reason. I bought 6 two-bite butter tarts in raisin and pecan for the table and they were just as scrumptious as I had recalled. Crispy, flakey crust with a gooey slightly burnt toffee center. Really tasty! One tart wasn't sufficient for me but two really hit the spot! I also had a yummy cappuccino, one friend had an Americano and the other ordered an espresso and beef and onion pot pie and said the food and drinks were excellent. Company was great as well as the service. The ladies behind the counter accommodated us with no hesitations. Learned that they offer a loyalty program too so make sure to sign up when you go! read more

We happened to be in Streetsville on an outing, and we noticed a sign claiming that Kate's Town Talk Bakery has the best butter tarts in town. Well, I love a good butter tart just as much as the next person, so I knew I had to try them for myself. The sign was not wrong. I decided to try a plain butter tart and a pecan butter tart. They're both phenomenal. The flavor is just ridiculous, but what really elevates this over most butter tarts is the way they've caramelized the edge of the pastry. It's ridiculously delicious. I could seriously eat these things every single day and not get tired of them. (Maybe it's a good thing they're so far away, in that case.) read more

I have upgraded my review to a full 5 stars. These are truly the best butter tarts. I've even put others into it and they agree that they are absolutely delicious. I've also had their cheddar scones on two separate occasions and they are perfect. I love the texture and taste. They have the slightest sweetness to them. They aren't too crumbly. When you warm them up with butter, it's dream but even if you eat them alone, fresh from the store, they're so good. It's my first stop whenever I come to Streetsville, as there is often a line in the mornings. Mostly due to the fact they only allow 3 people in at a time. But with the nice weather lately, the wait is no biggie. read more

A solid 3.5 with a special shout out to the butter tart that is a 4 star ... definitely above your average bakery. Cute homey bakery that fills all your grandma style baking craving. Kate's Town Talk Bakery is run by some very sweet ladies and they're quite welcoming. It's a homey feel in the bakery with various tables available to sit down to enjoy a light meal or eat several of their homey sweets. When we arrived, they weren't quite ready for lunch as they had a large order... it was a nice touch to see they make everything fresh and from scratch. For lunch, they normally have Chicken pie, beef pie, spinach cheese pie, sausage roll, soup, and sandwiches made with their in house made bread. In addition to the light lunch items, they have a large assortment of in house made cookies and a few pies and bars. In general, there's probably something for your taste buds! We ordered a chicken pie, peanut butter cookie, pecan cinnamon macaroon, cherry butter tart, plain butter tart, and a rhubarb raspberry pie. Chicken Pie - Homey little pie that satisfies that craving for that home made experience of a creamy interior with a few good vegetables. I hate to compare it to the perfect 5 star Pie Commission because Kate Town Talk version is like nostalgia. It has it's moments when it brings back that fond youthful memories. I did noticed that the pie crust isn't so flavourful so I'm thinking it might be a shortening crust. 3.5/5 Pecan Cinnamon Macroon - Good little crisp cookie. The cookie was really hollow so it makes me think the egg white was beat very very stiff. There was a good amount of shredded coconut in it but I'm not sure if I tasted much of the pecan in it. 3/5 Peanut Butter Cookie - I adore the look of this cookie... it reminds me of what my neighbour's grandma made. Cute indention with the back of the forks and hand formed. This had peanut flavour but the sugar amount was very very high. Possibly too sweet for me. 3/5 Rhubarb Raspberry Pie - The pie interior was a nice tart kick from the raspberries. The bold colour was a nice red foil to the cute maple leaf cut out on top of the pie for Canada's day. I wanted to really like this pie but the crust was a bit of a let down. It was pretty soft and mushy and didn't have much of a flavour. Not sure if this was underbaked or just sitting for a while. 3/5 Cherry Butter Tart - The tart was amusing as it had the traditional explosion of the gooey inside and caramelized over the pastry edges. This crust was definitely more flakier than the pies but it didnt' have a strong flavour so I think they used a shortening to get that flakiness. It still was well made and the sweetness was balanced. It wasn't insanely sweet... it is a butter tart so it's sweet but it wont put you in a sugar coma. I just can't give it a 4 cause I barely tasted any cherry flavour 3.5/5 Butter Tart - Oh yes.. this is the item you come here for. I get the love ... I taste the love for this bakery right here. Gooey, sweet butterscotch interior that lingers and coated up the pastry sides to create a nice caramel edge. The pastry is a pleasant flakey bite ... I would have preferred a butter crust but the gooey interior is a winner. This is quite nice. Solid 4/5 Overall, I'm sure they have more winners here than just the Butter Tart... lots of options for everyone to try and the lovely service puts it best in Streetsville. read more

I received a gift of the butter tarts from a close friend on the weekend. Heard that Kate's bakery was known for its award winning butter tarts. They were the most amazing and delicious pecan, raspberry nutella and raisin butter tarts that I have ever had !!! Crust is crispy and crumbly with a thick gooey filling full of rich flavor and sweetness. Highly recommend and worth the drive to Streetsville. read more

Been here only twice so far and have spent over $50 LOL How you ask? Since their prices are so reasonable and good? No self control I say! Seriously though... even catered them for an event because they are that good! Love their sweet scones with clotted cream and jam... partner's family ate 8 in 1 day and there's only 2 of them! Came here for lunch with some teacher friends to grab lunch. I trusted their pick of a place and I was so impressed!! I had no clue this place existed. They had amazing combos that included a drink, treat and your choice of quiche, pot pie, sandwich and salad. I got the turkey sandwich and everything tasted sooo fresh. They had fresh baked goods that were amazing. The service was super friendly and patient. My only complaint was the amount of seating because we came with and group of 6. What a fun place! The ladies here are so sweet and they were celebrating 6 years so there was a discount on their meals and I got a lovely 3-pack of cookies to take home after my meal. I picked a soup and chicken veggie pie with two cookies for dessert. Everything is made in house, which is amazing - I was sort of expecting the soup at least to have been a frozen one, but if it's made in house, that's awesome for a ginger carrot soup. And the pie! Oh, the pie was so good! The pastry was buttery and flaky, and the filling was creamy and savoury and well seasoned. The cookies were a little bite of heaven - I had a hard time picking two, so I ended up buying some extras. The chocolate crackle cookie was my top winner, and the toblerone was also good. The chocolate chip is a classic, and the ginger molasses is great if you're looking for a little kick! There's seating available - very homey feel with the mismatched tables and chairs. A really lovely little bakery. You can tell that a lot of care was put into the design of the shop too. Has a very welcoming and homey vibe. Like you're sitting in your grandma's kitchen as she prepares food for you. The much raved butter tarts are the reason I came here and they are worth the hype! Delicious sweet and sticky filling and a perfect crumbly crust. One of the best butter tarts I've ever had. Apart from the butter tarts I've had the empire biscuits and the scones. We grabbed some desserts to go. The lemon slice was a nice balance of sweet and tart and it was good that we could mix and match the slice with butter tarts in a six pack. The butter tarts have a crumbly crust so crumbs are going to go everywhere. One of us liked them and the other did not, the crust was too crumbly and not the right flavour for the nay sayer. The Nutella one was very good. We also tried the cookies(chocolate chip, skor, and oatmeal raisin), which were average and underwhelming except for the skor which was the best of the bunch. THE best butter tarts! Flavourful crust, not too thick or thin and not doughy. The filling very tasty and slightly chewy - perfect! And several flavours of butter tarts to try...and in regular and small sizes! I discovered Kate's a few years ago during what turned into almost a year long search for the best butter tarts in southern Ontario. Kate's tops the list with the next two from northeast communities outside of Toronto. (30 min and 50 min drives) I have been back to Kate's several times to purchase a dozen or more at a time. I went here today to buy some snickerdoodles for my sister since she craves them 24/7. Sadly, she explained that they haven't been making them recently and that I could order some for next week. But other than that small inconvenience, their service was beautiful. They had a wide range of scones, cookies and other baked goods with good deals. ($.60 cents per cookie/$3.25 for a pack of 6) But their butter tarts are what really makes this bakery exceptional. They have a carmellized top that tastes like sugar and buttery goodness. The tart itself is flaky and has a slight crunch, but when it mixes with the top, it sticks to your teeth like toffee in the best kind of way. Keep up the good work! read more

The staff is very kind and the food reminds me of summer at my grandma's (who always made the most delicious baked goods and lunches all from scratch). When going into Toronto (we live in Waterloo) we try to stop at Kate's on the way (a little out of the way but worth it). We get the sandwich combo which includes a drink and cookies for dessert. An absolute "must visit" if you have not as yet been into this Streetsvillle treasure you should treat yourself, you will not be disappointed . I made the mistake of entering the shop almost one year ago, and have since found myself to be a frequent visitor. I would often walk through town early in the morning and see Kate busy working away in the kitchen and by the time I got home from work the shop was closed. One week-end I decided that I had to drop by and sample some of the goodies she was preparing daily. From the Scones, to the Butter Tarts, to the variety of yummy squares, to the chicken and meat pies........all are absolutely yummy. I would encourage you to visit Kate's and just sample a few of her tasty treats........you like me will likely find yourself becoming a frequent visitor.
