I drive by Irene's to get to work and I couldn't help but notice the sign advertising their Zeppole! I have not had many of these fried doughnuts before except for at scaddabush but they were more in a TimBit shape with chocolate sauce. I was pleasantly surprised with the way these were prepared, not what I was expecting them to taste like but they were nice and fluffy, not too sweet with the amount of powdered sugar sprinkled over them and the contrast of flavour with the custard and the cherries was very good! The only reason I'm giving it 4/5 is because for such a small spaced bakery there were WAY too many people inside, you could hardly move and instead of creating a line inside the store I would have expected them to keep it outside like many other bakeries are doing right now. The staff was very nice but I would have liked to been able to walk around the bakery more instead of just wanting to place my order and scram due to how uncomfortable I felt. read more

We tried 2 different things from this bakery today and both were pretty average. We got a zepole which was pretty big in size. The pasty had an old oil smell and was soggy. There were also some berries on it which were not fresh. We also got a sponge cake that had cream in it and White Chocolate on top. The cake was pricey and not worth it. The sponge was super dry, less in quantity and was over compensated with cream on top. The white chocolate on the other hand was yummy. Maybe other items taste better on the menu but I will not be returning to try those! read more

I probably have something from here every couple months. And this has probably been the case for the past few years. Yet somehow, every time I think of remembering to write a review, I can never dig up pictures from the past. So unfortunately, no pictures for this review, but I don't want to procrastinate on writing it anymore. The place is nice, with a couple tables if you want to sit and eat while at the cafe. They are usually super busy, so you will have to have some patience if you are going in to order or even just pick up. But the quality of the stuff is really good. Prices are a little high, but nothing insane. I've tried their cookies, cakes, a bunch of stuff. Everything is pretty good. Their cakes stay fresh even after days and sometimes weeks. They've got quite a large variety to choose from, and I think at this point I may have tried all of them and still don't have a complaint. Definitely a great spot if you need to pick up a nicer cake for someone, or indulge in some other baked goods. read more

It was a hot and humid day in Mississauga... We were taking a walk in Centennial Park. A group of east Indians were playing crickets... an ice cream truck did stop near us. We did take a look and... nope, if we are going to have ice cream, we can do better than cheap ice cream! So we looked at Yelp and found this place near by. It was not that clear that the place had gelato but they had Cannoli for sure, so we decided to try it. Upon walking in we saw the gelato counter right away so I decided to have gelato and ALSO a cannolo! There was vanilla and chocolate filled cannoli in the counter but i was informed by the friendly staff that they were filling the cannoli in the back if I wanted one with ricotta, which was my choice... obviously! We ordered french macaroons (for my shower) and cake (for our wedding) from Irene's and both were absolutely delicious!!! The wedding cake left overs didn't last long as our family all requested to have some the next day because it was so yummy :) We had 3 flavors - hazelnut/vanilla, lemon/raspberry, and lastly red velvet/cream cheese. All of them were equally tasty, but the hazelnut was the most popular of the night. We were hesitant about not having a fondant wedding cake, mainly about how it will look since there are more design options with fondant, but we trusted Irene as we heard great reviews from family and friends who have ordered cakes from here as well. We showed her a picture of an ombre blush pink ruffled cake and she created it perfectly, better than what we had shown her. We brought in our own roses the day before for her to add as well. It looked and tasted amazing. We loved it! Overall, Irene was super friendly (as was the staff!) and always offered us coffee or tea while we were there. The cakes at this place are exceptionally good. Even your basic sponge cake is much better than your average bakery with the buttercream not too sweet and the custard incredibly delicious! I've purchased their hazelnut delight cake 3 times prior to placing another order on Wednesday. I ordered the cake for pickup on Friday at 5pm. When I arrived at 5 pm I had to wait 10 minutes for them to finish my cake. With anticipation our family each had a piece on Friday evening after dinner. To our surprise the cake was not moist as usual. It tasted like a stale cake not the usual moist Italian cake we've had in the past. On Sunday morning I cut a piece of the cake and brought it in to the bakery and spoke to Irene. Irene took the cake to the back tried it and returned to speak to me. She said the cake is usally made the night before but this cake was baked in the mornimg and put in the fridge to cool. She said the bottom piece of the cake was moist and the top was dry (it was really dry). She said sometimes people complain about the cake being too moist. This time they did not wet it enough because the cake was made in the morning and they were afraid of making it too wet. She said the cake is still eatible because the bottom of the cake is moist. She did not offer me anything at all, no replacement, no discount on the next cake, no apology. She said that next time I order I need to tell them I complained the cake was too dry last time. They obviously have a quality control issue. This quality control issue should not be the customers problem. I should have brought the whole cake back to her and dropped it on the counter so her customers know what a lousy cake experience they may get as well. I will never be going back to Irene's bakery again. My Italian friends tell me there is another bakery in the area which is much better than Irene's. read more

She is amazing, will make any type of cake, just give her a photo of what you want done and she will do it. The cakes are always fresh, delicious and leaves us all wanting more. Wanted to order a cake from here. Brought in some pictures of cakes I liked. Got to talk to "the celebrity" herself. It was a disaster. For some reason, none of my ideas were "possible" even though my event was over a month away. Had to settle for one of her designs which was "possible". So I just booked it. I had never bought a wedding cake before and I didn't shop around. I should have. Her prices were like double or triple of everyone else. Her designs were old fashioned. Once I found all this out it was too late and wasn't allowed a refund (even though it was like 2 weeks before the event, so there's no way they could have started the cake, or maybe they did?). Anyway, we got the cake. It looked like the design I picked. I mean I have to admit it. Unfortunately I was forced into a design I didn't like. The cake itself was gross.
