This place rules…read more First, a confession: I've been dying my own hair for years. The last time I went somewhere to get my hair done I left in tears - the chick totally ruined my hair. Fast forward years later, my hair is in need of a cut and color and I just didn't feel up to it. A friend of mine told me about Lola ( specifically Meghan), and I was feeling saucy and had a babysitter, so I called and booked an appointment. I ended up getting there too early, so I got some work done while I waited. It has a nice cool vibe there, and they feature jewelry to buy from local artists - how cool is that? Meghan is an adorable tall irish chick. She may or may not be an elf from Lord of the Rings. I'm not sure, because her skin is flawless and i'm pretty sure she doesn't age. She's a lot friendlier and happier than the elves from LotR though, so who knows. I told her of my past experience, and she made me feel comfortable right away. As I sat in the side room, tin foil in hair, hair cooking, thinking of the movie Signs, I got to sip a glass of red wine. I didn't even have to smuggle it in, they have wine for their customers. After your hair is rinsed out and shampooed they put conditioner in and then cover your head with a hot towel to help the conditioner soak in. While the hot towel is on you get a hand massage. The hand oil they have is awesome, it soaks in right away and made my hands feel super soft. As someone who constantly applies hand lotion, I was super impressed. After my hair was rinsed out I got to see it - and I loved it! It was exactly what I wanted. I felt SO relieved and happy that I went to Lola. As Meghan finished up by cutting my hair I watched the digital frame on her desk. The slideshow included Christine Hendricks and Karen Gillan, so Lola immediately gets 100 points for including Joan AND Amy Pond. I love how my hair turned out, and it's all thanks to Meghan. I'm so glad I decided to go to Lola and didn't let that other place deter me from all salons forever. Meghan, you are a lifesaver! If you call to book an appointment, ask for her, she rules. The guy working behind the counter was super nice too - even when you show up early enough to get some work done (free wifi for customers, woo!)

Martha began our appointment with a rather in depth consultation. It was refreshing to be asked what I liked, didn't like and more. She was very quick to respond, texted me a question to ensure I had the right amount of time set aside. I had a little bit of a hard time finding it. I have even been to the BBQ place right next door, but never really noticed the salons right next door. It says "Salons Etc." and it seems to be set up where there is a main entrance and then stylists have their own private mini salons. Very cute. Dana was very pleasant, professional, enjoyable to be around. She did a great job with my highlights and cut. I made a follow-up appointment, and again had a great experience with requesting a time online and the appointment was confirmed in less than an hour. I did not find the being on the phone thing mentioned in a few other reviews to be an issue. But honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with it anyway. My expectation/hope when I get my hair done is to walk out with hair I'm happy with. Glancing at a phone or answering a text is irrelevant to that. She's doing everything herself, so I would think she might need to multitask a little sometimes?

As someone who's been growing out their hair for years, this was very upsetting. If she thought she needed to take off more than the inch that was agreed upon, that should've been discussed before any cutting happened. There was no mention during my appointment of addressing an older cut or rebalancing anything. My previous cut was 10 weeks prior and if I would've been asked about this during my haircut, I would've told Melanie that I've been working on growing out my layers so all I needed was the trim to clean up some dead ends. I did reach out to the salon after their response so we could discuss fixing the cut and the owner responded that she would call me on Saturday 2/28 and I have yet to hear anything from her even though I followed up when I didn't hear anything on Saturday.

She understands how different hair cuts look on different face shapes. She also is an excellent colorist. She is smart and fun to be around. She also cuts both my teenage kids hair and has done so since they were much younger. She is helpful in guiding you (or your children) even if you don't know exactly what you want. I find this to be particularly helpful with my son who has no idea what he wants except that he doesn't want his hair to be in his face. Both my kids always look great when they leave. The salon is clean and quiet and easy to get to. It's centrally located and has parking right out front. I highly recommend Mackenzie. She is great.
