This time, sadly, I was too late. I allowed one filling to be taken care of before I got the second opinion. The dentist who looked at the original xrays specifically pointed out that the 3 "cavities" diagnosed at Shorewood Family Dentistry were in fact still in the initial phase of decay, and not through the enamel yet. Dentists, like all many of us I guess, have to pay their mortgages and student loans. But there is no excuse! I also found it not only odd, but possibly suspicious, that the dentist himself chose to clean this child's teeth instead of having the hygienist do it. I'd never heard of that happening before.

My anxiety is about a 9. Not just from pain etc. Also my teeth are not the best and I feel embarrassed. Instead of judgment or silence. I received understanding and empathy. Through out the procedure, my pain was constantly there first concern. I was given multiple additional shots as they said, it turns out my canine was a "hot" tooth. The chair massaged me and Amber brought me a glass of water and a heated neck wrap. She even brought my wife back, who was waiting in the lobby; while I was getting numb. She was a very proactive and thoughtful assistant. Doctor Cook was a complete professional and her chair side manner was top shelf. This dental office is set apart from the rest and above them all, in it's own league. If you are on the fence and putting off going to the dentist because of anxiety. (It seemed like I would always get appointments after holidays, and she loves candy. I always found that funny.) One note is that over that time period, her office staff changed. When I first became a patient, there was a young Latina hygienist and a 30s/40s year-old "working-class vibe" receptionist. They were both very pleasant, and we developed some rapport. I immediately noticed when they were gone the next visit, replaced by a "middle-class vibe" white 40s-ish receptionist. Obviously, Dr. B didn't discuss her staff decisions with me. That said, those positions are clearly less prestigious than dentist and there's a risk of exploitation by the business owner (sorry, I'm a sociologist, I think about these things). All this is to say, the staff turnover to be more white and more "middle-class vibe" made me uncomfortable. It changed the feel of the office. And then my insurance changed, so no more Dr. B. anyway.

I had no idea what to expect but I trust my dentist so I…read morewent ahead with the doctor she recommended and did the consult at the Brookfield location: There was quite a bit of paperwork and calls with the office to confirm insurance and discuss payment prior to the appointment. I was told that if I didn't want to do the paperwork until the day of my appointment I'd need to arrive 30 minutes before my scheduled time. My appointment was at 7:30am which is the time the office opens so I'm not sure how that would have all worked out. In the end, doing the required paperwork in advance is for the patient's benefit and it's always nice to know cost up front for anything dental (at least I think so). As for the appointment, I have to say I was genuinely impressed with the office. It's an up-to-date facility in an unassuming office building. I was greeted by a calming waterfall when the elevator doors opened, a friendly receptionist offered me water and the bathroom even had essential oil spray. Oh and there was an aquarium in the waiting room! The equipment used for scans was all very clean and felt state of the art. I saw Dr. Zielinski. I found him to be knowledgeable and straight forward. I will say he talks a lot so if you see him be sure to ask your questions and even ask him to clarify terms if you need to. He was very helpful and answered all my questions and I never felt rushed which is important to me. In the end I don't need work done here but if I did I would feel comfortable moving forward.

The staff was very nice and to the point helping figure out what was causing my pain, and what we needed to to do resolve it. They were direct, provided accurate payment quotes up front, and were able to get me a same day root canal and it was painless. I was so so grateful for them and their to the point process!
