But I ignored it and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Then I called the next day to discuss the firm potentially helping me with my case. Instead of being patient and allowing me explain, the representative sharply cut me of and turned me down, assuming I had a case fit for trial. But then I explained to him that my case was in default and would only need pre-litigation to complete. Then he was interested again. But as soon as I continued explaining, the man rudely cut me off again. Then when I simply asked him to allow me to finish, he over talked me again. So I gracefully excused myself. Whether a law office can assist with a case or not, I'm just a big believer in professionalism. I just wanted to share my experience. I was the abused party. My experience was that the litigation became significantly longer and more expensive than it needed to be because serious factual allegations were made that were later disproven by documentary evidence and testimony (she even accidentally impeached her own client). In more than one instance, the evidence presented by her own client contradicted earlier claims. From my perspective, it appeared that key factual assertions had not been carefully vetted before they were presented to the court-specifically in an effort to confuse the Court. Whether that was strategy or simply inadequate preparation, the result for me was months of additional legal fees, stress, and emotional strain while recovering from an abusive relationship. I had to hire experts including a domestic violence expert and a forensic accountant to disprove many of her false allegations. If you find yourself on the opposing side of this attorney, my advice is simple: stay calm, organize every document, preserve every text message, email, photograph, and recording, and work with an attorney who is meticulous about timelines and evidence. Do not assume that obviously false statements will correct themselves: you should be prepared to document and disprove them. it is DRAINING but I have to give Cathleen two stars because she really did go hard for that guy in the face of insurmountable evidence! This attorney projects an aggressive litigation style, and the repeated warnings about the cost and length of litigation were intimidating. In my case, however, I found that careful documentation and consistent evidence ultimately mattered more than aggressive rhetoric. If you know the facts are on your side, don't let the pressure alone convince you to give up. I did come out ahead - or as ahead as you can be when in the depths of this sort of hell. I did gain my life back despite their attempts to block it. I can't recommend this attorney based on my experience.
