Bring your eye masks! We stayed at the Katheryn Inn for the Great Puffin Watch in Cannon Beach over the 4th of July weekend, and it was a great value. The front desk staff was friendly, the room was clean, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. They still provide individual shampoo and toiletry bottles instead of refillable dispensers. We enjoyed the afternoon cookies and the complimentary Ivar's salmon chowder at 5 p.m. Breakfast was standard, though I did like the little packages of diced peaches. No non-dairy options for cereal. The biggest downside was the light in our room. The balcony door blinds let in so much light that it felt like daylight all night. There was no way to turn it off or block it, so we ended up hanging the provided bathrobes over the door and using a chair cushion to cover more of the light. It helped a little, but not much. One of the bathrobes was still soaking wet, whether from being unwashed or not fully dried. I appreciated having robes for the pool and hot tub, but a wet robe was pretty gross. The pool and hot tub are open to adults 24 hours a day, which is a nice perk, although both are quite small. We didn't use them, so I can't comment further. Overall, we'd stay here again because the value was hard to beat--just don't forget your eye masks. read more

We made a random trip to seaside to stay for the night and was checking places out then saw The Kathryn. We drove up and met a man with a very large beard, he informed us of some vacancies and we elected the hot tub king room that faced the river. Very nice chill room and they front desk man was extremely helpful and informative. He did a great job and laying out the land and the times things were closed or opened, like kiddo pool time, breakfast time and what not, the man with the beard really made our stay pleasant from the beginning and the rest was great! The little breakfast attendant was very accommodating and doing a wonderful job making sure everything was stocked, great work to her as well! read more

The staff was super nice and even tried to alleviate our issue with a different room we went for a 3 nights on the second night our backs were killing us due to a rock hard mattress we are on the heavy side but when my wife who doesn't suffer from a bad back says let's head home a day early on our anniversary i cannot help but feel compelled to let people know if your a larger person these beds are not up to the challenge. My first time ever! What an attractive tourist city. I read the reviews, some not so flattering. However, I found this hotel to be very enjoyable and met my needs well. Nicely appointed, appears to be well maintained. I opted to choose my room, with a view from the balcony, through the Choice Hotels app, also available on the Choice Hotels website. This hotel did not disappoint! The front desk was staffed with friendly clerks, the reception area had coffee, cider and hot chocolate available. Check with the front desk about the 5 pm Smoked Salmon Chowder offering. As I looked around, the 1st floor pool looked inviting. They also have a dry sauna and hot tub Above the pool on the 2nd floor is the dining area, presently open for complimentary breakfast from 7-9:30am daily. Also at the end of the hallway is the laundry room, washer ($2) and dryer ($1). Directly above the laundry is the fitness room on the 3rd floor. I understand that the bar area on the 2nd floor is slated to open during the 2023 tourist season. I had a very satisfying stay. There are so many eateries and watering holes to visit. Stores selling all sorts of vacation souvenirs and such abound in this town. The beach is just two blocks away. Everything is within walking distance. This has been one of the most enjoyable lodgings that I have ever used! If you are looking for an affordable stay, I wholeheartedly recommend Kathryn's Riverfront Inn. read more

We booked last minute for this stay and were very lucky to have found such a nice property! The Inn appears to have been redone recently and was warm and welcoming. The staff was very friendly. They included a pretty large offering for their grab-n-go breakfast, just be sure to get there before 9:30. Only complaints were that the price was quite high and our AC had a strange noise when the fan stopped. Seaside was a cute town to visit, so we stayed for two nights and enjoyed Finn's for dinner and Sea Star Gelato, just down the block. read more

This was such a great lil hotel. The people who work here are so nice and kind. It's not fancy but it IS pretty and squeaky clean and they have sweet touches like: Water in the front with lemonade/lavender or strawberry/mango. Chocolate chip cookies when you check in. Great place to stay! Much less hectic than boardwalk and only 3 blks to beach. The beds and pillows were the most comfortable I've ever slept on away from home. The breakfast buffet was plentiful, and fruit infused water available all day (even delicious salmon chowder, cookies around 5). Best of all though was the staff. This place could have been nice. The biggest complaint is that they turn on a bright light outside your window on the patio and you can't turn it off. They do not have a black-out curtain (or any kind of curtain) for the door. The door has little blinds inside the door that do not keep out any light. Attached is a photo of what it was like all night long. I called to ask if they could turn the light off and they said they couldn't, but they would give me a sleep mask. This tells me they know about the problem and are unwilling to spend $100 for some curtains. Also the room was $400/night and not worth it. The decor is very dated and nicked. read more

After this 5-night stay here, which was our second stay here ( had a 4-night stay with the Grandkids 4 mo previous ), we would give zero "stars" if could. Not worth the $1975.05 and hassle we had to endure! Upon arrival, when receptionist was taking my credit card, the wrong amount showed up after I entered my card. I made a comment that it must be incorrect but I "wish mine was only $1300"! Receptionist at next computer said "oops I sent this over to your computer". She then went on to send it over twice more while my receptionist was trying to get me checked in! My receptionist said my card had "been declined" although there was many times over our stay available in that account, so I knew right away that they had incorrectly charged me for my stay PLUS the one the other receptionist was somehow sending over to my credit card machine! I asked the receptionist if I had been charged for both and she said she "didn't think so", yet said again in front of other guests that my card was declined. I was so humiliated at this point that I walked out to get my Husband to come from the car and we called our credit union while on speaker so the receptionist could hear. The credit union at that time only saw the correct charge and stated there should be no problem with the card. My receptionist went on to say she "used to work at a bank so she didn't think both charges had gone through" but she also never offered to contact my bank or double check. Then... two days later we tried to use the same card for dinner and it was declined! I right away checked our account to see that on that same day ( two days after I checked in), not only was the $2025.05 charge for our room pending, but also the $1300 charge for someone else's stay! They went ahead and charged my card when the other person checked out even knowing that there had been a mistake. That should have been double checked and cleared up in the system on the day I checked in given they knew what has happened! I immediately told front desk and she said she "couldn't do anything since the manager wasnt in 'til next morning but would leave mgr. Jill a note so she could contact me immediately on arrival at 9:00am the next day". I called my bank as soon as they opened that next day and they said because we had a daily limit as this card is a debit/credit card, the two pending charges from this hotel were taking up our limit, we could not use the card until it was released. I then called down to speak to Jill whom said she would call the bank and "give me a courtesy call back". I hadnt heard back from Jill so I called down again and she said she couldn't call my bank until her "other gal got to work, so would be after 10:00 am and that she was going to give us credit for that day". Finally at11:30am Jill called and said she spoke with the bank. Upon checkout the receipt I was given still wasn't easy to comprehend so my Husband said just keep an eye on the account a few days since Jill wasnt there at the time to speak with to see if she had given us any credit as she said she was going to. Finally today, we were charged $1975.... no credit for all the hell we experienced due to a negligent receptionist, whom for whatever reason, was sending someome elses room charges to our room, not just once but repeatedly! As far as the hotel itself, "boutique" is an overstatement! We had cobwebs on the ceilings, one old chair on the balcony, the lighting is very dim even with 5 lamps in the room, the carpet is older and needs to be cleaned, one of the dressers from a room is sitting outside on the boardwalk below the balcomies and what appeared to be local druggies were stashing food in it. Breakfast is lacking for sure! In addition to the odd hours (7:00-9:30) there aren't very appealing choices unless you want to nuke a frozen sausage or nasty burrito. There were no fresh fruits or jams available any day, even at beginning of breakfast hours, the eggs were rubbery. Don't try to get any of their flavored water in the evening. Receptionist said they usually empty them around 7:00pm but it was more like 6.30. Same car allowed in the disabled parking space every day that never had a placard or disabled license plate, or oversize trucks and motorcycle trailer taking up two spaces on 3 of the nights. Barely got any sleep the last night due to people in next room running jetted tub til 3:00am so were just eager to leave. Will be letting Choice Hotels know that this isnt as "boutique" as they claim ( the rooms need an update) and that the manager needs to do more to turn a negative experience like this into a more positive one and follow through. We usually stay at Rivertide Suites nearby so will stay there or across the street at River Inn from now on. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and state of the lobby and the rooms. Our bathroom didn't have a shower curtain, which they immediately came up to install once we mentioned it. PROS: Dog-friendly, clean rooms, friendly staff, great location - just a few blocks walk to the beach, rooms have a small balcony overlooking the river. Immediate service on the missing shower curtain. CONS: Because the rooms have balconies, there is a BRIGHT light on each balcony (that you cannot turn off - for safety reasons they told us), and the black-out curtains don't slide over the door portion (which just has mini blinds). So the room was barely shaded, and felt like the sun (or moon) was shining directly in the room all night. Beware if you need the dark to sleep, bring an eyemask - seriously. read more

This is a decent hotel. I went for a solo night away. On the River. My complaint is that I was put on the second floor. The whole hotel has music playing in hallways, but for some reason on the second floor it was excessively loud. You can hear it in the room. Very odd. Cleanliness of the room was not great. One of the coffee cups was over looked. There was a lip stain on it that the hotel staff just put a cup cover over. There was a couple pieces of hair In the shower. Not huge things, but things that were easily visible and shouldn't have been there. Good location to downtown shops. Overall the stay was mediocre. Staff were kind. read more

It was nice to have the indoor pool and hot tub - we used it both nights. Super dog friendly, they gave us a first floor room so it made it easy to take them out to potty! The continental breakfast was actually good. The only miss was that housekeeping never came to our room but the front desk gave us extra towels and toiletries so no biggie...We really enjoyed our stay here! read more

Decided to get out of town for Christmas. My friend booked our room at the Kathryn, in large part, because it advertised as pet friendly. We arrived in the afternoon on Christmas Eve and were greeted warmly by the front desk staff. Got checked in and received a little goody bag for the dog. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and flavored water are available in the lobby. We got ourselves settled and took the dog for a walk. Found a great place to have dinner, so we took the dog back and went to eat. After dinner, we decided to have a soak in the hot tub. So relaxing! There is also a small pool and a sauna. Slept SO well that night. Friend took advantage of the small exercise room in the morning. Thank you to Liz and Kathryn at the front desk for their smiling faces and great attitude. We enjoyed our room with the balcony over the river, how quiet the room was, a comfy bed and clean room, plenty of parking and a nice breakfast. If you exit out the north stairwell then you are right on the main downtown street with plenty of shops and restaurants. And if you walk through town the beach is only about a five minute walk. The staff was courteous and helpful. They honored our early check-in request. Lot parking for hotel guests. The bed was a little hard for our personal taste and the in-room and hotel coffee was un-drinkable. They definitely need to step-up their coffee game. This hotel is so beautiful and made our entire day yesterday! Somehow the original hotel we made a reservation at didn't have it and we were searching for a good 30 minutes for another hotel that had a room for us that was available before 4 o'clock because we had a wedding to go to! We really thought we were screwed. We called Kathryn Riverfront and the woman at the front desk was SO KIND!! Check in is also usually at 4 here but after hearing our issue she offered to see if there was a room available for us already OR she would just ask the cleaners to get one cleaned for us ASAP. Fortunately, there was a room already cleaned and for the taking so we drove right over and were able to check in around 2 and have plenty of time to get ready and make it to the venue for the wedding. No other hotels we called offered to even check or try to help us. I called at 12:18 on 6/20 and asked if there were any vacancies and was told no. I then called Choice Hotels to see if they could help me find a place to sleep due to all hotels saying they were booked. I was offered a king room with a balcony, and I said yes. Arrived at the hotel, went in and Daniel said "I just received a phone call and said there weren't any vacancies because I didn't want to do the paperwork" and laughed. While he was explaining to me about the $25.00 incidentals, a lady walked in and he stopped and said "can I help you?" then proceeded to help her without asking us to hold on nor did he say excuse me. My fiancé said "you should've finished with us first" and I said "right." He then went to say "did you bring any animals," looked at my fiancé and said "he doesn't count." We both stood there and stared at him. He then said "don't smuggle anything in the room that's not supposed to be there and don't smoke." Then once again he asked if we had any animals, then I said "I'm done with this, I'm grown and this is not my first rodeo, I know what I'm not supposed to do and I want my key and don't say anything else to me." He said "I'm supposed to explain the rules" and I interrupted him and told him "he was rude by helping someone else in the middle of checcing us in, he was rude by calling my fiancé an animal and he was rude by insinuating we were going to "smuggle or smoke" in the room when neither one of us smelled like smoke nor were we intoxicated." I then went on Facebook live and revisited the conversation with him standing there and his rebuttal was "I apologized for that" I gave it two stars because the morning staff was extremely excellent and my room was perfect but this is the first time in a long time I felt like the color of my skin made someone think it was ok to say what he said. :( read more

Walked in without a reservation on a Monday. Was able to book a pet friendly suite on the first floor. They actually saved our anniversary trip because just an hour prior we had a terrible experience with the hotel I had booked (long story) glad we happened across this place as we were walking to find food. Brandon, at the front desk was very friendly and informative. He even sent a gift to our room. So many good things to say about this hotel. The room was extremely spacious. As was the bathroom. Husband and I fell in love with the jaquizzi tub in our room. The fireplace was neat, we tested it out, but opted to use the AC instead, which worked wonderfully. The small balcony overlooked a little river, so peaceful. Breakfast each morning was soooo delicious. They have quite an assortment of food. The room overlooked the river with open doors. They also have a 24/7 juice and coffee bar. Yes!!! 24/7!!! Waaaay too convenient. And if that's not enough they have free cookies at night. Sadly, we did not have time to test out the pool and hot tub. Location is great. Right at the end of the boardwalk of shops (the main strip) And right next to Dundee's Bar and Grill and Dundee's Donuts. I recommend you go to both places. All staff was friendly and each one greeted us with a smile and a hi. I highly recommend this hotel and will book with comfort inn and suites each time we come back to seaside. read more

Great place for a girls weekend. Friendly staff, lovely river views, central location, good breakfast options, and clean room. The bathroom fixtures could use updating, but other than that, it was excellent. I felt safe parking my car there and loved being able to walk to the beach in mere minutes. Seaside reminded me of towns like Ocean City along the Jersey shore. I wasn't expecting arcades and bumper car places, but I'm sure it would be fun if I had you g kids with me. We used the hotel as a launching point for day trips to quieter beach towns like Cannon Beach and Manzanita. Both so quaint and only a short drive away. read more

This Comfort Inn seems to have been remodeled I'm not sure when, but I can tell it wasn't too long ago. The building from the outside and the lobby area looks nice, but the bedrooms didn't. The bedroom still has that old look from long ago with old furniture and even the wallpaper looked dated. The sink area to the bathroom was outside as it wasn't inside the toilet/ shower area which I can tell immediately that this was an old design. The only modern looking furnishing was the desk. The design of the bedroom was weird as the tv cabinet and bed wasn't aligned. You had to move your body to a weird angle if you wanted to watch tv from the bed. First time ever I had seen a room layout like that and was definitely a disappointment. They also have breakfast included here which was good with your standard fare of pancakes, eggs and bacon. The breakfast seating area was great as you overlook a river and it was nice view wherever you sat. Also included was a nice looking pool and hot tub which we didn't have time to try, but definitely worth looking into if we had the chance. The location of the hotel was nice as it was very close to the town of Seaside and you can walk to any of the destinations without driving. It was convenient to just walk to any of the restaurants and shops around town plus to the beach. There were so many plus and minus here so I gave them 3 stars. Would I stay here again?? Will see as I do enjoy visiting Seaside. read more

Loved this place!! Stayed here for a week on a work trip. I'm pretty sure they were short staffed, but the staff I met were so wonderful and helpful that it was hard to tell. The room was lovely, the pool and spa were relaxing and clean. Perfect location to enjoy Seaside by foot. The town is unapologetically touristy, but it feels safe and friendly. My boyfriend I stay there for the weekend last week. it was clean and comfortable the staff were friendly and accommodating. They also have a really great breakfast which I really appreciate. The bathroom was clean, the bed was comfortable. The little coffee packets in the room were better than the coffee they were serving at breakfast If I were to change anything I would have a bigger coffee maker in the rooms. The one that is in there now makes one cup at a time it would be better to have a small pot instead of just one cup at a time. read more

Great stay. Nice hotel with a nice pool and riverview. Breakfast area got a bit crowded and would have been nice if it was served a bit earlier. Some front desk staff was friendlier than others...didn't want to brew coffee until a certain time for example saying "coffee is out". Just seems that a lobby should have coffee in the morning at 7am. Nice touches with salmon chowder in the evening and decent breakfast options. Some reviews have negative comments about microwaveable breakfast sandwiches and burritos but we thought they were pretty good! Much better than a badic continental breakfast. We highly recommend staying here. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. They have complimentary Ivar's smoked salmon chowder and fresh baked cookies everyday, very delicious. There is a small indoor pool and hot tub. We did not use either, but the setting looked really nice. The hotel is on a river and backs up to Broadway, which is the street with everything. It is an easy walk to the beach, restaurants and shops. I saved the best for last, which is the awesome staff! Everyone was very friendly and eager to help. We will be back. read more
