The holidays are great...but I find that post-holiday recovery time is even better, know what I mean? And it's best done solo or with the love of your life, as happens, away from the familiar or crowds. Especially if, just before the new year turns, you can give yourself some time to reflect on the past year and sort through hopes and desires to set expectations for the next year...that's golden. The Courtyard was the place picked this year to take some downtime after a hectic year. Am gifting myself a few days here to reflect and get ready for the upcoming new year so a spacious, comfortable room is important. And we found that the rooms at the Courtyard have everything needed: from fireplaces, to huge soaking jetted tubs, to balconies to sit out and look at the night sky. Great help from Maiya setting up our reservation, and JLyn who checked us in remembered me from a couple months ago -- all the pre-visit arranging was very hospitable, which is an important part of the overall vacation experience. Also pretty great to be so warmly welcomed after such a long drive through the fog and winding roads. Totally lucked out with the room. Now deeply content, curled up in a very comfortable king size bedroom with fireplace going and the balcony has already offered us a view of the stars -- and in tonight's case the half moon as well is hanging so brightly in the clear night sky. We're told on the last night of the year December 31 the moon and the Pleiades will be neighbors for the night; thrilled that I'm going to have a view of that from my balcony. The bed is incredibly comfortable and the room is clean -- always is here, which is one of the reasons we return. One of the small things we love is the towel art and the Kleenex or tissue art. Whoever does the rooms here really takes time to make those small touches -- and it stands out (when you spend a lot of time in hotel rooms you can tell who cared about the space). And this room is not only on the top floor but has the open space of a comfortable sitting area with sofa so I can enjoy catching up on Stranger Things while enjoying some fresh fudge and drinking some tea. Don't underestimate the simple joy of having a fireplace when at the coast because it's so cold and dark outside that the warmth and bright light of a reliable gas fire makes all the difference. Even picked up some fresh fudge from the whiskey bar on the corner -- the Alchemy lounge -- just a minute walk away (in the same building as the hotel registration desk and foyer) before retiring to the room. Put the kettle on (it's fantastic that this place has kettles for us to make our own tea) and waiting for it to hit whistling so we can enjoy some peppermint tea. Never underestimate the luxury of having not one, but two mugs when traveling solo because you can make two different cups of tea... a favorite thing after a long day of driving, on a cold night. Whatever everyone else is doing in their neck of the woods, find myself very grateful to be here at Cannon Beach in such comfortable and peaceful quarters. Love this hotel. It's affordable, neat in room amenities and friendly customer service. I would argue they could do a little more o update the rooms. Cracks and missing pieces of materials, making it feel outdated. It was overall clean in over view but needs a deep clean to get spots that they probably don't pay attention to. The location was perfect with a nice view from the 2nd floor. We stayed here (Courtyard) for three nights in August. Note that this hotel (or set of four hotels, the Cannon Beach Collection) is not so well known, so there are often vacancies available for booking at the last minute. We stayed here two years ago under the same circumstances. The girl who checked us in, Maiya (I am probably butchering the spelling, sorry) was super friendly and helpful. We had booked a second-story room but oddly, they planned on giving us a lower-level room. But after pointing this out, we were given the upper-level room we had booked (we booked directly). Two things about this hotel: it is "pet-friendly," and it is pretty old. Our room (#21) showed its age. The bed was nice. But one power outlet was so worn out that anything plugged into it would just fall out. The light above the hot tub had an output of about 1 watt, making it functionally useless. The shape of the room was odd, which meant there was no good place to put the TV. The TV/cable box itself used two remotes (three if you count the DVD remote), and was kind of a mess to deal with. The ancient ice machine in the courtyard not only dispensed ice but also endless entertainment. Once you pushed that button, the ice never stopped dispensing until the entire machine was empty and a miniature Matterhorn sat on the courtyard. Hilarious. On the day before checkout, some guests with a dog decided to lock the dog in their fenced-in patio on the lower level, and just leave for the day. The dog barked endlessly. I complained to the front desk. When the idiots returned, they were warned about the issue, and decided the solution was to leave the patio door open. Then they left again, and of course the dog kept on barking, as an oblivious hotel employee shoveled away at that Matterhorn in the courtyard. Eventually a crowd formed around the outside of the hotel near the patio. The people in the house next door were out on their balcony looking down in disgust, and several guests began to gather on the street leading to the beach next to that patio. It was just after a beautiful sunset, and Maiya and her boyfriend were there too. She told us that the guest had been evicted and she was waiting for them to leave, or the police would be called. Fortunately, the idiot dog owners left shortly after. Maiya apologized to us and promised a free bottle of wine. She never followed up on that. That night, the hot tub stopped working. The jets just wouldn't turn on. So overall, an entertaining but badly flawed stay. We will never book a "pet-friendly" hotel again, that's for sure, including this one. read more

With a pristine location near Cannon Beach, The Courtyard (one of the buildings that is part of CBHC) is charming on the outside, but our suite was a disappointment. It was supposed to be ready for 3 guests. We had to move several pieces of furniture to make room to open the fold-out twin bed, which wasn't made. The queen bed was the most uncomfortable one we ever encountered and the pull-out twin was not much better. We could not reach the front desk from the room phone, which resulted in long walks to get a pillow and towels for our 3rd guest. A sign told us not to use the suite's fireplace. The sliding glass door and window were extremely difficult to slide open and close. The ice machine produced noise, but not ice. We asked about beach accessibility while making our reservaion (one of us is disabled) and were assured that we could easily walk there from The Courtyard without steps or hills. That was not true, as the closest way to get to the beach was via a dark tunnel-like staircase. We were so dismayed that we left early. Before doing so, we voiced these concerns to the desk clerk, who took notes and said she would tell the owners who would call or email. That was days ago and we haven't heard a word. read more

We loved our stay here. The Hotel is charming, and the location is great. The Courtyard is classy and quaint. The rooms are well furnished, and all the amenities needed for a short or extended vacation stay are available. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The location in Cannon Beach is wonderful! While the hotel is not exactly "Oceanside" or have a nice view of the ocean (Note: Rooms 19 and 20 [the best rooms at the establishment] do have a slight view of the ocean and the tip of Haystack Rock), you can hear the ocean with the window open, and it is just a couple hundred feet away from the beach. You are walking distance from many restaurants, shops, and galleries. For the cost, this is an absolutely great place to stay in Cannon Beach. The "Courtyard" in the middle of the Inn is super charming, and seems like it could be a delightful place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening, weather permitting. Another fun attribute of The Courtyard is the Library. This charming area is available to all guests, and there are numerous books and magazines available to peruse while enjoying the warmth of the fireplace. The Library became particularly useful for us, as in one of our forays to the beach, my wife and I got separated for whatever reason. My wife did not have her key with me, so when she arrived back at the Inn ahead of me, she simply relaxed in the Library until I returned. Very nice! The only real negative aspect of our staying at The Courtyard is that we required to transfer from one room to another in the middle of our stay. We booked our stay at The Courtyard online using Booking.com. The Booking.com reservation system (and other large online hotel reservation web sites) has a serious flaw and does not integrate well with smaller Hotels or Inns such as The Courtyard. I am not certain of the technical details, but when you book through Booking.com for multiple nights stay at a particular establishment, it does not guarantee that you will be in the same room for all of the nights reserved. I am sure this is disclosed in the on-line agreements when you register, but when this happens, it can be a major downer on your vacation. On this particular stay, we made reservations through Booking.com for four nights. When we checked-in, the Hotel staff informed us that we would be required to transfer to a different room after the first night. The Hotel staff explained that this problem was due to the Booking.com system, and that they could not make changes because all of their rooms were booked for the time we were staying. While this may not seem like a serious problem, it did cause us an interruption in the activities we had planned for that day. My expectation for this class of Hotel is to check-in, un-pack, and then enjoy my vacation. Having to re-pack-up our belongings and coordinate moving into another room took up time that we hadn't planned for. The Staff also explained that is is possible that when you use Booking.com, you may end up being booked into a different room for each night that you stay. The Hotel staff recommended that in the future, we should book our reservations directly with the Hotel, and this problem can be avoided. Ironically, I knew this to be the case, since I had a similar experience happen a couple of years ago at another small hotel on the Oregon Coast. Evidently, larger hotels typically have a larger room inventory available so that they can adjust around this problem, but smaller hotels for some reason are more exposed to this flaw. In the future, I will avoid using Booking.com or other third-party systems when reserving rooms at smaller hotels. To give The Courtyard further props, they were super accommodating in helping make the transfer to the second room as easy as possible. I can't say enough about the high quality service we experienced during our stay. So I highly recommend The Courtyard, and I highly recommend that you avoid using Booking.com or any other large on-line reservation service. If you are making a reservation to stay here, just give them a call and make your reservations directly. read more

Super nice area! Very close to the beach and the scenery is so beautiful. The room itself was very nice and comfy looking. My only complaint about the room would be that it did not have an A/C unit. Office said none of the rooms did, maybe because it's cold out very often? Even though we had a pet with us, they allowed us to stay in the upgraded room which was very gracious of them. The room is really nice and lots of space for 2 people. The private balcony was great and we enjoyed the nice room. Also it is a block from the beach so the location is good too. If they allowed pets we would stay there again but if you are traveling to Cannon Beach without pets then I recommend staying here. read more

My husband and I stayed here for three nights over Labor Day weekend. The room was reasonably comfortable and well equipped with a kitchenette, small living area, dining table, queen size bed, and gas fireplace. The hotel location was convenient; close to Haystack Rock and a quick walk to town, so we barely had to drive anywhere, which was nice. Unfortunately, shortly after checking in, we noticed the toilet was clogged. One flush (with no toilet paper, just pee) and it overflowed onto the ground. We immediately notified the front desk, who said they would send the maintenance guy out to look at it. So, we figured we'd go out to dinner while we waited for the problem to be fixed. When we returned a few hours later, supposedly the maintenance worker had worked on the toilet, but the it still wasn't working and by this time of night, the front desk was closed. We spent the night avoiding use of the toilet and holding it in, which made for an especially uncomfortable night for me, having a particularly small bladder. Oh, and we also noticed that the shower didn't have a shower curtain either, just empty hooks, so that was something else that needed to be fixed. (Seriously, I'm paying $200/night to stay here -- is it really too much to ask to have a functional toilet and a place to shower?) First thing the next morning, we stopped by the front desk again and explained the issues. What we got in return was a blank stare from the clerk and a lackluster promise to send the maintenance guy out to look at the toilet again, though he confessed he didn't know when the guy would be able to do it. As for the shower curtain, that was a housekeeping issue, and those services were not available for several hours, so we would have to wait until mid-morning to early afternoon to use the shower. So we went out, unshowered, and used bathrooms elsewhere, again waiting for our room to be fixed. When we checked in later with the front desk, the clerk implied the toilet had been fine all along, and that they couldn't find a problem. He did not offer an apology for the inconvenience, and it was almost as if he was saying that we were being paranoid about the whole thing. Eventually, both the toilet and shower curtain issues were solved, but by that time, our trip was halfway over anyway. Some people might have demanded a discount for the time they spent paying for a hotel room with a broken toilet, but we did not. I understand that mistakes happen from time to time, but when they do, an apology goes a long way and The Courtyard couldn't even offer that. So, needless to say, we won't be staying here again nor will we be recommending this place to others. read more

This hotel may not have a view of the beach itself but it is very close by and saves you a bundle. The price really is amazing for a room with a fireplace and a large jacuzzi tub. The room we got was just lovely - well decorated and the bed was a slice of heaven to sleep on with comfy sheets. The couch was even super cozy. It was nice discovering there were plenty of wine glasses and drinking glasses throughout the room. Coming back from the beach each night to a jacuzzi soak with the provided salts and a glass of wine really enhanced our trip. read more

I stayed at the Courtyard this summer after calling around and finding that there were no other vacancies in the area. I had tried camping at a nearby site and even that was full, so I was happy to hear that The Courtyard had a last minute cancellation at around 6 or 7pm and was able to accommodate me for a late check-in for one night. Long story short, it turned out that the last minute cancellation I benefitted from was because there were a group of seagulls nesting in the chimney in my room - birds chirping at all hours of the night - and I'm fairly certain they knew this when they checked me in. The breakdown of events: When I checked in, I quickly went to my room to drop my bags before grabbing a late dinner and immediately heard the noise from the chimney - so I called down and they said they'd ask the maintenance person and get back to me. When I called back after dinner - birds still chirping away in the chimney - they said that happens sometimes and there was nothing they could do about it that night and there were no other open rooms in the hotel or in Cannon Beach - so I'd just have to essentially grin and bear it. I was up all night, cotton ball earplugs, pillows over the ears, etc. I even considered sleeping on the little mini balcony or in my car at one point out of desperation. It was a nice room, but I felt I got tricked into taking a room that clearly shouldn't have been rented that night. The interactions I had with the front desk person upon check-in and in my calls that night made me suspicious that they knew full well this issue was present when I checked in. The following morning, having had barely any sleep at all and having to get back on the road, I explained the problem to the front desk and all I got was "well, we already gave you a discounted rate for a late check in, so there's nothing we can do, sorry". They did offer me a free coffee to perk me up from my night of sleeplessness, though. Thanks. I had not asked for the discounted late check in rate (though it was of course appreciated), and I never make complaints at hotels or restaurants - but this particular occasion stood out as I felt this was a dishonest business exchange and was thoroughly disappointed with my experience there. Take what you will from that. Maybe check out your room at The Courtyard before paying next time :/ Nice hotel, nice accommodations, but this incident did leave me with a bad impression. read more

My husband and I just stayed here last week on a living social deal. We were going to be visiting Cannon Beach anyways so it was a win win. We have never stayed at this location before, only their other property, the Cannon Beach Hotel. This location was very nice, and quiet. Really close walking distance to the beach with Haystack rock, which we love. It's about a miles walk into town. The room we got came with a very large Jacuzzi tub, fireplace and King bed. It was very spacious and had a couch that turned into a pull out bed. The decor was lacking a little, only 1 picture in the room, but the comfort level was great. Altogether well worth our money. Exceptional continental breakfast (eggs, bacon, croissants, mimosas, granola, fruit, etc...), the most luxurious mattress and bedding in existence (like sleeping within a marshmallow!), peek-a-boo view of the ocean that included WHALES (room 20), and convenient location with convenience store, beer garden, and coffee shops within easy 2 block walk. Free on-site parking was a nice benefit, and there were other additional touches such as freshly baked cookies upon check in and daily sweets in the room. The carpet should be replaced, the walls are rather thin, and there were some slight flaws in the housekeeping, but in general this is a solid choice for a relaxing and romantic trip to Cannon Beach. read more

Used a groupon deal. We arrived an hour before check in and were instructed to come back at 4pm. Understandable. We check in at 410pm, walked a block, got our bags, went up to our room, and its not ready. The housekeeper informed us it would be 5 more minutes...okay. 10 minutes later he tells us room is finally ready. So that whole thing was disappointing. The room itself I was very impressed with. Gorgeous. I read a review about the beds being uncomfortable, I disagree. It is a little lumpy but thats normal for a mattress topper. Cons: Housekeeping is not the best. Theres hair all over bathroom floors and black dirt all around the ledge of the tub. Its hot! Had to sleep with the door open which was lame due to privacy reasons. The fireplace is awesome but you cannot use it due to the high temp of the room. Was woken up at 5am due to what sounds like a clothing dryer. Kind of annoyed with that. Pros: Beautiful room. Cozy bed with lots of pillows and soft sheets Jacuzzi tub was awesome for relaxing. Close to the beach I dont know if I would stay here again. I guess if the price is right. read more

We enjoyed the Courtyard very much. It was super quiet, we had a corner room with a gas fireplace, a kitchenette, and a large jacuzzi tub. No A/C but we compromised by opening our slider door and putting the box fan provided in the room nearby for airflow. No big deal for us. The breakfast at the cafe was delicious and less than a block from our room at the courtyard. We were very pleased with our first weekend-long stay at Cannon Beach and will be returning to this hotel! It was also a major plus that we were so close to the beach and within walking distance for everywhere we went. read more

wanted to spend a nice 4 day / 3 night in Cannon Beach to wind down from a busy work scheduled and celebrate my 1 year wedding anniversary with the wife. Booking reservation: I would give 3 star on this experience, website wanted you to call for the special promos, when I called reservation desk quoted standard rate to me even thought I mentions the special deals. Had to mention again after first quote of the website pricing. Once all that was done, I was able to get my room for the discount rate plus first time quest discount. Make sure you check website for pricing and have them quote you that price. Arrival and initial impression of Hotel: check was 3 PM (Cannon Beach in, 1 block down from Courtyard) was very fast and simple and pleasant, received Keys and headed to the room. First impression was rooms made me think of a nice Bed & Breakfast, room looked clean and was well appointed. The courtyard was nice and even had chairs to lounge in. the walk to town was alittle farther then suggested via website, but still easy, the beach is only 50 - 60 yards away. Loved the fact you could walk to town, and leave the car parked the whole time. Neg: --can't check in at hotel, need to check in at Cannon Beach inn. --noisy plumbing, can hear upstairs guest every time they use toilet and take bath or shower (very loud) --No A/C in room, can't leave windows or sliding door open if on lower (main) floor. Pros: --great charm (like fancy Bed & Breakfast) --close to restaurants (Newman @988, Cannon Beach Cafe, Bald Eagle Coffee, Wayfare) --short walk to town, can leave car parked --friendly staff (free beach chairs, robe, beach towels, DVD) Overall experience was very good and my wife and will stay with them again, we will book top floor unit instead of main floor. read more

The husband and I went to The Courtyard for a small 'just us' trip towards the end of April. After researching hotel after hotel, and b&b after b&b, we compromised and chose this particular establishment. In all honesty, I should have picked somewhere else as I ended up being extremely dissatisfied with where we stayed. Cons: - On main thoroughfare with hardly a 'serene courtyard' - Extremely lumpy and uncomfortable bed with deep people-sized divots - Room gets very hot with jacuzzi use along with no A/C, and only windows opening to face other guests - Missing audio/visual cables for DVD, along with remote batteries - Laughable, disappointing continental breakfast Pros: - Short walk to beach - Affordable, IF you get a promo-special. [I would -not- pay full price for this place] The 'serene courtyard' spoken of in the literature is hardly that, with Cannon Beach's main thoroughfare just a spitting distance away. We heard more traffic sounds and less 'serene water splashing in a fountain'. Upon entering our room, my husband and I looked at the bed and both did an out-loud groan. You could see deep people-shaped divots in the mattress, far worse than any other place I've ever stayed. And, just like we thought, our night's sleep was VERY uncomfortable because of the lumps and deep mattress valleys. I really cannot properly convey how uncomfortable this bed was. It was the most abysmal sleeping experience I have ever had. Period. Our room had a jacuzzi tub, and it worked beautifully. Except, the jacuzzi part of the hotel room isn't closed off from the sleeping part. Using the jacuzzi heated our entire room up to sweltering sauna-like conditions. We couldn't really open our door or windows, since the -only- windows in the unit faced out towards other people. It should be noted that this particular hotel does -not- have air conditioning. We had to either swelter, or get dressed and open our windows -- neither option added to the romance feel we were going for! We brought a Redbox dvd we had both been wanting to watch, but then discovered that the Audio/Visual cables connecting the DVD to the TV were missing. After the front desk lady hoofed it over from the other hotel location with replacement cables, we discovered the remote was also missing batteries. The next morning we were allowed a continental breakfast that was not at all what was advertised in their literature. There was nary a pastry to be found, and our choices were only plain Cheerios or Franz bread toast. *Note* The restaurant for this particular hotel cluster was opening up in a couple weeks, so future attendees will likely have a different continental breakfast experience. You could stay elsewhere in Cannon Beach for a more affordable rate, and this is likely what we'll do the next time we're in the area. read more

What would make someone travel a dozen times in the span of 4 years to a coastal town, where you arrive by a 15 hour train or fly in and pick up a car rental in Portland and drive an hour an a half. This place is overpriced, has no view and the staff varies on friendliness, however, I am enchanted by this place and location...perhaps nostalgic...who knows. The rooms are so cozy you don't want to investigate the sounds of the ocean you hear outside your window...but you do. Upon returning from your venture to the sea, you sit bu the gas burning fireplace with the balcony door open for breeze inspecting the sand dollars you just collected and you feel like a kid again. read more

I just recently used my Living Social getaway deal at The Courtyard for a weekend trip, and it was great! The room was clean and organized. There was a gas fireplace, fully equipped small kitchenette (Mini fridge to hold the leftovers from us dining out! Awesome!), a decent bed, couch, TV, free Wi-Fi, and lots of towels. Our sliding door lead out to a little patio deck with chairs to hang out at. We had a bottle champagne and glasses upon arrival, and a small pail full of local saltwater taffy. There was a library room with a computer and printer to use, but not a large selection on DVD's or game. Easy walking distance to Haystack rock. We luckily scored great weather during the two days there, so plenty of sunshine, and cool, ocean breezes. 10 minute walk to downtown Cannon beach to enjoy the restaurants and fun, little shops. My wife and I spend our first anniversary here and it was a very cozy place, Yes the parking lot is small but negotiable. The tub is great in the room we had and had never seen one quite as large or nice. The bed was great and very comfy. I found the TV set up a little odd, but then I turned the TV around for in tub viewing which was great! We had a top floor unit (22) and found it well appointed and equipped. The room was not too noisy but it was the quiet off season. We got a good rate and discount which made the stay worth the cost. WE would stay here again. The staff were great and let us come in a day late, and stay an extra day!! read more

I was looking to get in at a romantic, historic B&B on the coast as a last minute spontaneous getaway. However, owing to the last-minute-ness and the dearth of such lodgings on the coast anyway, I settled on the Courtyard instead, and boy am I glad I did. Usually, I'm not one for brand-spanking-new, but the decor of the room was very inviting and comfortable, with just enough luxury. I had a corner room and it was very quiet, and my wife absolutely loved the gas fireplace. The staff was very friendly and very helpful, and the room was very clean. We had a great time, definitely in the top 10% of hotel experiences I've ever had. read more

I stayed here many years ago and was very satisfied. This time my husband and I were both disappointed. We thought the bed in our room was hard and very uncomfortable. The blinds didn't work correctly, screen was off slider and banged against wall on deck, lamps were flimsy looking, light bulb on stove was out, and the drain in jacuzzi bath was broken. We also found several "roly poly" bugs crawling around our upstairs room. We were really looking forward to a nice romantic getaway and expected a litte more. We did appreciate the free wi-fi. I stayed here last week and I miss it already. I bought a Living Social voucher last year and used it to stay 4 nights. The room was clean and nice and the bed was super comfy, but the pillows were the only complaint I have. They just were not comfortable, even though there were six on my bed. The breakfast at the Cannon Beach Hotel, a half block away, was amazing. Delicious eggs, hash browns and sausage or bacon, croissants, awesome coffee and juice made getting up a joy. The music and ambience in the Cannon Beach Cafe was so very nice. I would definitely stay here again and again and again! (I will bring my own pillow) read more

The place is clean and remodeled with nice finishes, but lacking some maintenance and furnishings. There is next to nothing for space to keep things in the bathroom (with a pedestal sink and only a small shelf on the wall), no drawers or cabinet of any kind. That is a hassle for two people, let alone the 4 the room can reportedly accommodate. There is also no dresser drawers for unpacking clothes, so plan to live out of your suitcase (oh, and by the way, there's really no place to put your suitcase, either, *especially* if someone is sleeping on the sofa bed). The big pro is being close enough to the ocean to hear the surf at night when it gets quiet (that is, once house keeping replaced the missing screen on the window). The patio is really too small to be of much use and it was overgrown (literally) with weeds when we arrived in the middle of summer (and the weeds were not taken care of, despite requesting it when first checking in). House keeping was courteous and extra helpful in one instance, but English not being the first language hampered communication a couple of times. Now I understand what petite kitchenette really means--extra super small. It's a half-range, with only two burners and scarcely enough counter space to prepare anything. If the dishes are drying in the rack, you're out of space. We used the kitchen to make a little breakfast, but discovered you had to fry eggs in a sauce pan, since there is no frying pan. It's an OK place to stay if you consider it a simple hotel room that's close to the beach, minus anyplace to store anything during your stay. But, for my money, next time I'll be looking for a place that's had a bit more thought put into it. For the price, I expected much more. read more

Something was missing... actually several things are missing!.... .Maintenance, the tub drain was disconnected and the shower drain was clogged. .The "library" is nearly empty, definitely uninviting. .The "courtyard" is more of an outdoor hallway, flanked by an ice machine, again, hardly inviting. .Beach towels. .An appropriate rate for what you get - it's overpriced. But this was high season, and vacancies are few. I guess owner figures why do more than you have to? Would not recommend. read more

My wife and I booked three nights through booking.com at The Courtyard. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, December 29, 30, and 31 (New Year's Eve). We had the confirmation number. A romantic New Year's get-a-way! We arrived very excited and were promptly told the manager had overbooked and only one night was available. We were shocked. The girl behind the desk apologized and said she tried to call me on my cell phone, yet my Droid showed no calls at all. She got us into a room with a view of the ocean and reduced the price approx $10-15.00 In my line of business, when something like a booking problem occurs of this magnitude, you IMMEDIATELY comp the room...you go out of your way to make those guests feel welcome by offering a complimentary breakfast, or late check out, or something. When I handed my keys back in the morning I told the new girl about our problem and she knew nothing about this. She was surprised and apologetic. End of story. This was handled very poorly. We will not return to this establishment in the future. read more

My husband and I spent a couple of fabulous days at the Courtyard last week. We could have stayed forever! It reminded me of the bed and breakfast we stayed at in Carmel on our honeymoon 25 years ago. So charming and quiet. The room was beautiful and so very comfortable and the fireplace was a wonderful surprise. You are in walking distance of everything: shops, restaurants & beach. The morning breakfast at the Cannon Beach Hotel (the main property) was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. Could not have asked for a more wonderful few days! We just returned from a nice weekend at this cozy little place. The check in was a "Cannon Beach block" (maybe about 1/2 of a city block) from the actual Courtyard. The parking lot at the Courtyard is small, with a tight fit and little navigating room even in a compact car. As noted by the name, the rooms are centered around a courtyard and fountain. Our room was upstairs, with a small deck, modern kitchenette, fireplace and sitting area with a couch. I always judge places on their beds, appearance and goos (shampoos, lotions, soaps, etc.). Hotel beds are always iffy, but these were surprisingly nice! There was plenty of tea, coffee and space for the both of us. The only downsides were the lack of a dresser and the somewhat out of place directors chairs at the desk/table. We made do with putting our clothes in the nightstand, but an extra drawer or two would have been handy. To my surprise, the goos were very nice--eco-friendly, pleasantly scented and I actually felt that the products were working, which is not usually the case. This place has a great location, though not ocean front or ocean view, but great as a starting place for a walk or run on the beach, then a trip to Sleepy Monk on the way back to the room. We're looking forward to our next trip back! read more

Very nice little place, though somewhat overpriced, maybe I just got screwed by going on Valentines day weekend, but $185 a night when it rained for two days straight in the middle of winter was a bit excessive. Nice small little room, a quaint little hotel in a quaint little town. A very short walk from the beach and to many nice resteraunts. I do not recommend the breakfast though, I did not think you could mess up a hobo scramble with breakfast potatoe's but it was pretty lousy. Not to mention there was only one girl to wait on the whole place. All in all a very nice place and would certainly return, great place for a romantic getaway. I take away a star for price and breakfast! Otherwise I completely recommend. read more

Very high quality service and experience overall at the courtyard in cannon beach. We only stayed one night on a road trip from seattle to California but this establishment has been the best in every aspect we've come across so far. The staff was so friendly and when I explained I had strange dietary restrictions and couldn't eat the food out in the buffet at breakfast, the cheffs made me a special salad. Every little thoughtful detail made all the difference for us while being so far from home, including offering robes, Q tips and even an extra blanket on the bed. I didn't want to leave and now I wish I could go back because the subsequent places we've had to stay at don't hold a candle to the courtyard. We are definitely planning on returning. Furthermore, the room was immaculately clean and very well decorated. We didnt even have a room with a view nor beach access but were still so content with our very small yet beautiful homey room. read more

The Courtyard has absolutely no understanding of customer service. I booked a room here for a weekend in May through Booking.com with the advertised promise of free cancellation (as long as I canceled more than 7 days in advance). The Courtyard sent me an extremely long email 4 days later on a Friday night, with one line buried in the middle saying they would charge $30 if I did not cancel within 24 hours of receiving the email because it was "summer season". I read the email briefly and did not see this, and by Sunday, realized I could not travel to Oregon that weekend. I went to cancel on Sunday morning -- a mere 30 hours after receiving the email -- and received a $30 charge. When I called the Courtyard to discuss this, the same woman each time told me she had no power to do anything and she would have her supervisor call me back. I called 5 separate times over 3 weeks and no one returned my call. Finally, someone at the front desk rudely told me that their policy was clear, I had to pay the charge, and there was nothing they could do. When I called Booking.com and asked them what to do, they were appalled and immediately removed the charge. Moral of the story: this hotel is charging ridiculous prices as it is, and they left an extremely bad taste in my mouth if this is how they choose to engage with potential customers. We thought we'd give it another shot in the hopes that things have changed. Not a soul in the parking lot on a Wednesday after spring break and we were rudely told no check-in until 4PM. It was pouring rain so this was really a dreadful thing. We had three hours to burn with a car full of stuff and two kids who'd been in the car for hours. Fresh paint is great but everything else is on its last legs. The carpet still has yet to be changed out and is rippling and coming away from the walls. There were ants, the bed wasn't comfortable, the pullout sofa was so thin and flimsy you could feel the springs beneath the mattress and your knee sunk low when you leaned on it to make the bed. They did bring a foam topper which helped though. It's very hot in the room and you can hear the people upstairs. The bathroom has no place to hang anything at all. So your bag has to go on the floor or toilet lid. There is a single hook for one towel. Not handy with four people. One thing we were happy about was the use of wifi since it was pouring rain. We wanted to use our computer to stream Netflix and let the kids use their tablets. All three nights, zero wifi in the room or near the property. They said the wind knocked it out and were working on it. They called to tell me it was fixed. It was never fixed. They told me to use the painfully slow computer in the steaming hot library. This was a fair offer but I needed my computer reservation system for work and that can't be used with their computer. 4G wouldn't work here either so I couldn't text family up the road to arrange anything and for whatever reason, cell service was bad too. I had to actually leave the property to make calls. In all, we were really frustrated. Here's the good: the housekeeping improved, the location to town is great, the mini fridge is useful and again, there is fresh paint on the walls. read more
