    Thai Spring Rolls
    Brittany H.

This is my second time visiting this month. Both times I ordered the exact same meal (I genuinely enjoyed it last time so I figured why not). If I was to rate my experience on my last visit it would have been 5 stars. Today, I would have given it 3 stars. Both times I got Mixed Vegetables with noodles on the side. The first time around it was amazing, just enough sauce and a great portion size. This time around however the vegetables were undercooked and I got significantly less. To start we ordered the Thai Spring Rolls and they are to die for. I'll be back for sure!

This was our first vacation away from home for 2 nights at a nearby resort. We found this…read morerestaurant by a casual search. We love reading menus and this one struck us as both uniquely varied and unpretentious. We made a reservation, asking for a patio seat. Despite it being a Saturday night some space was available. We were seated promptly and presented with the interesting menu we had researched previously. But let me cut to the chase before I give you the full review. This place would be worth driving in from Toronto (1.5 hours) just to dine! We ordered 2 appetizers. The first was a fresh loaf of French Bread served warm with an appropriately crispy/chewy crust. It came with a delicious olive tapenade, that was well oiled with an excellent and abundant olive oil. Needless to say this is not a 'repas minceur'! An excellent opening to a great meal. Our other appetizer was home made Chicken Pate with a smooth consistency. It was plated with baby gherkins, acidulated sweet onions and a small decorative and tasty salad. It was served with thinly sliced and lightly toasted French bread. A great, smooth pate, with a subtle yet extremely pleasing taste. And then came the main courses. My wife opted for the grilled calamari and a beet salad with chevre both of which were appetizers. The calamari was tender, nicely charred and the portion was extremely generous. The beet and chevre salad was untouched as my wife was fully satiated! Forage serves large portions. We will both enjoy the salad tonight! I decided to order the seafood curry because a curry featuring shrimp and scallops sounded delicious. It was also something (the scallops) not usually found on an Indian restaurant menu. I was in for a treat! The vegetable were cooked al dente. It was a nice marriage of carrots, courgettes, onions, and small florets of broccoli and cauliflower. On one section of the plate a mound of basmati rice completed the dish. It was awesome! Finally a curry that was not overpowered by too much (any?) coconut milk, and unique in its ingredients and preparation. This is not a spicy dish for all of you who are somewhat reluctant try curries. The next big decision awaited. Desert....but we had been defeated by the portions and the great dining experience. This experience was enhanced by pleasant, professional but relaxed outstanding service! In conclusion: what are you waiting for reserve and eat there! You will not regret it.

The modern, chic decor sets a wonderful ambiance, and the service was immediate and welcoming. The food was spectacular from start to finish. We started with fresh, warm bread, followed by a flavorful seafood gumbo loaded with meat, and a generous portion of two lightly breaded crab cakes. For our mains, the 10oz ribeye and 8oz tenderloin were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--compliments to the chef! They came with a lovely side of baby potatoes and vegetables. We capped off a perfect meal with a warm pecan tart and ice cream. I highly recommend coming here. We noticed they have a pizza oven and plan to add pizza to the menu soon; we already can't wait for our next visit to try it out! Ps parking wise, the restaurant is just off a residential neighborhood and parking is free. No need to pay for any parking, just remember to read signs.

Last night my wife and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary with our three daughters at Catch 22…read more We arrived early for our 7:15pm reservation and were greeted at the door promptly. As they walked us to our table I requested a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate. Our server came by to confirm the bottle order and take our daughters' drink request. When our server came with the drinks the unfortunate happened: the tray tipped and the beverages fell resulting in shattered glass, wet clothes, a small cut on my finger and lemon in my eye. The server was mortified and we felt terrible for him. I went to clean myself up while the server and a colleague cleared everything away. 15 minutes later - at 7:50pm - our bottle arrived along with the drinks. The rest of the night went off without a hitch and the food delivered. The reason for my poor review is this: at 9:05pm we got the bill which included that bottle of prosecco, a bottle of red, multiple starters, multiple steaks with paid-premium sides. Not an inexpensive meal at all. We still had full glasses of wine to enjoy so I didn't open the bill. One minute later the owner of the establishment came over to give us a nudge to pay. I understand that you close at 9pm on Thursdays but considering the delay was in no way our fault I hardly understand the move. Furthermore, at no point during the ordeal did management/ownership come by to check on us and see if we were alright. Finally, no items were comped on the bill - not even an iced tea. I paid the bill (with 15% gratuity), chugged my wine and left without so much as a goodbye, thank you or apology. It's too bad that a restaurant with a nice atmosphere and good food within walking distance from me is never to be enjoyed by us again but this is the service industry and that starts with management/ownership.

It was a wonderful atmosphere with soft instrumental music and the ability to hear the conversation of people at your table. To start, there was toasted bread with feta cheese and dill pickles. The starter salad was a huge supper entree size plate. The choice wax garden or Cesar. You could get the French Onion soup instead. Had the main Filet Peppercorn sauce. Asked for medium rare and it was amazing but it had a little much gravy for my liking. The baked potato side was a nice side (not too big) which came with butter and sour cream versus having french fries. Veggies were a few string beans, a slice of a big carrot and a piece of red sweet pepper. The plating of such fine expensive entrees was not very sophisticated. Thought it would be plated much nicer than it did. The server was very friendly and helpful. Chefs were accommodating to special requests and the food was excellent. I don't eat there all the time, but every time I do, the lady always remembers my name and asks me how I'm doing. You can feel good giving your money to Captain Jack's restaurant in exchange for their lovely fish and chips; big chain restaurants don't really need your money and have servers that will never remember you and don't really love their jobs. Captain Jack's, however, is an amazing, independent restaurant, run by a hard-working couple who deserve for their restaurant to thrive for many years to come. I recommend trying the mushroom soup as an appetizer; it's different from anything I've ever had, but quite delicious. You will clean your plate and come back again for more delicious deep-fried fish and chips goodness!
