I found Caitlin while browsing through Craig's list and eventually found the great reviews she has on her Yelp page. I immediately sent her an email for a quote and she responded the same day. She gave me a very affordable rate and even added a student discount at my request. We emailed back and forth regarding my ideas for the shoot and logistics of the day. A few days before the shoot I realized that I gave her the wrong date (Tuesday instead of Wednesday). She kindly moved her schedule around to accommodate me for Wednesday. On graduation day, she was on time and very professional. We took pictures at Central Park with my family. She was very patient and open to ideas. Afterwards, it took a bit longer than I hoped to get the pictures (about a week), but they came out very nice. Everybody--friends and family alike--and myself loved them.

As a first time mom, I was nervous about the whole process and handling the baby, but Julia took all concerns away and we even walked out with some helpful tips for the baby. Julia works with her husband Roman, who is also very knowledgeable and helpful with babies. I've never seen two people work so well and in sync together. The studio is very warm and cozy, so the babies don't get cold. My husband and I knew that we wanted beautiful and artistic photos to capture those precious newborn moments for our baby boy. I had done extensive research on newborn photographers in the NYC area, and Chavi's style of photography was exactly what we were looking for. Her website was very easy to navigate, she is very transparent with her pricing, and the photos in her gallery accurately reflects her artistic talent and what to expect as your end product. From the moment we contacted her, Chavi was extremely professional, always quick to respond, and she definitely gave us a strong sense of security with her accessibility and ability to be accommodating for you, especially since you can't predict exactly when your baby will arrive (if attempting a natural delivery). Prior to securing our booking with Chavi, we had reached out to a different photographer with whom we had a vastly opposite and negative experience, so Chavi was truly a gem! As exhausted new parents, to our surprise, the day of our photo shoot was one of the most relaxing and blissful hours we have had since the arrival of our baby! Chavi had such a magic touch and kept our baby calm almost the whole time. She has a very soothing and relaxing vibe in general, and instructed us to spend the next few hours however we wanted while she focused on the baby, which was truly a treat! We received a link to see the raw photos a few hrs after our session was done, and then got our fully edited photos several days later. The next day they showed up and asked myself and my roommate if we were interested. Since my cell was broken, I couldn't really take any picture, so I jumped at the chance. The photographers were SOO friendly, and they handled my baby with care. I chose package C which give u 5 poses. They had a WIDE selection of props, for my son we had a crown, blocks that spelled out his name, a turtle hat and shell cover, and a sash that said baby boy, that's what we got before he started crying LOL. we also caught his first smile! They worked with me because I didn't want any 5 by 7s. and I would recommend them again and again :-) the only draw back is waiting to get ur pics. it takes about a month. but I am very happy with their service.

We turned down the in-hospital portraits, mainly because we are on a budget and all of my family members who visited us had taken enough photos of our son to fill dozens of albums. On a visit to Babies R' Us my wife entered a raffle being held by this company and she was contacted a few weeks later, and was told she had won a free 8x10 and a no-cost at home session. Personally, I think it was just a marketing ploy but we took them up on their offer. The photographer, Bob, arrived 2 hours late, but once he got started we realized why that was...the man is a consummate professional. He was patient with our 1 month old son. He even waited as we did multiple diaper changes, a feeding break and change of clothes. He had pillows, blankets, toys and other props. What amazed me was the manner in which he was able to coax our son to laugh and giggle for him. After the photo session, we were delivered the proofs and that is when the sales pitch began. We were handed a stack of about 50 proofs, and asked to choose for our "prize" 8x10. We were interested in an economical package but their cheapest starts at $249. I figured we could buy a digital CD of our proofs but this studio "sells" you the rights to your baby's photos and proofs as a stand-alone item for $200. We decided to bite the bullet and buy the Silver Package which included all of the proofs plus the CD, in addition to the bundle 11x14, 8x10s, 5x7s, and wallet sizes. Now, that our choices have been made, we are simply awaiting delivery. Let's see how long they take, seeing how I've already pre-paid nearly $350 (tax and shipping included). Frankly, they are not at bad at what they do. The photos look amazing, and the quality of service is really good. The prices leave something to be desired, and the fact that they ask you to sign a waiver to use your child's photos in their promotions and websites without any compensation leaves a bitter taste. If they deliver on their promises, then we will definitely be using them in the future and perhaps referring them to family and friends.

For several months before the event, I bombarded Roe with many questions about what to expect. She kindly and professionally set my mind at ease right up until the days just before the actual event. On the night of the party, she was exactly on time - I'd finally get to meet that lovely lady in person.
