I don't normally wear makeup, and prefer a natural look. I usually only filled in my brows to put myself together, and even that was a hassle by my standards. My eyebrows are sparse and do not grow in the full shape I would like. I found Angela's work on her instagram page and knew she was exactly what I hoped to find. She finds the unique shape that works best for each individual, and somehow works magic to make it look like you're not wearing any makeup or tattoo. I've had my tattooed brows and lash line for several weeks now, and they feel like ME. I haven't filled in my brows since. I look back at before pictures, and now they look so sparse to me, even with brow makeup. Not only is Angela an artist, but she is a joy to work with. I was unsure of the exact shape I wanted, and she patiently worked through several iterations that I wanted to try, tweaking and giving an expert perspective on what proportions would work. Choosing a makeup tattoo artist is a huge decision. This is the shape of your face!! I'm not sure I would have been brave enough to continue asking for tweaks with a different artist until it was absolutely perfect, but Angela was so kind and patient. It's not a huge loss to be ghosted but certainly hugely unexpected, unprofessional, and unnecessary! Overall- the point of permanent make up is to look like you're wearing make up! I hadn't been happy with them for awhile after over plucking when it was still cool to have those barely there lines for eyebrows. I had this one spot that didn't seem to grow back and I COULD ALWAYS SEE IT. Then my friend used Ash and I was intrigued. Not long after I made a consultation and ya'll, this girl is so great. She asked a bunch of questions to 1) get an idea of why exactly I was interested in powder brows 2) get an idea of what I was expecting to get and most importantly 3) ensure I would be safe, if there were any safety concerns, and walk me through the process. I don't have a tattoo, I had no idea about the potential reactions, and she walked me through the healing process and what to expect. During my appointment she was so calm and relaxed that she made ME relax. She talked me through what she was doing. She checked in on me throughout the process. I will say there were a few parts where my eyes were watering, but overall not a problem. Ash even walked me through the differences between cosmetic tattoos and a body tattoo. (No, tattoos aren't as easy) After my appointment I was ANNOYING. For the first week I think I messaged Ash every day asking questions about "is this normal?" or "does this look ok?". She was always extremely kind and patient. She answered all my questions and even encouraged me to ask more. Ash is truly the best. She made the entire process feel comfortable, she has the patience of an angel, and is truly one of the kindest people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I've already recommended her to everyone I know, but now I'm recommending her to you too. Thank you Ash!

Although I had an overall good experience there, when I went for my 18ish month touch up, the owner of that business seemed distracted, didn't really care to listen much and overall the whole service felt like a rushed, assembly line transaction. It's been 18 months since that last touch up, so I was due for one. My brows started to have that washed out look, but I just didn't feel compelled to go back to the original artist (although the color boost would have been much cheaper.)After following Good Brows on social media for a few years, I decided that Simone's work had a softer, more natural look that was much more aligned with my taste. So I inquired and she soon followed up to set up a consultative call after I sent a picture of my brows at present. My appointment was set up on that call, which was about 6 weeks away. I made a non-refundable deposit at that time and then received more pre-appointment instructions the week of my appointment. I must admit, there are a lot of details to read and pay attention to when it comes to policy - which is either a sign of a meticulous and detailed business owner, or potentially someone so particular that flexibility may not be at the forefont when it comes to collaboration. Luckily, all of these details are just so that Simone can maintain a high level of professionalism in running her business and ensuring that her clients receive the standard in care and artistry that they're paying for. On morning of the appointment, I gave myself plenty of time to ensure I wasn't late (there is a $150 rescheduling policy if you're more than 10 mins late.) She texted me right when I was arriving, which was a few minutes early to let me know I could come in if I was waiting, so we were able to start right on time. The studio space is warm and beautiful, adorned with gorgeous art (if you're lucky, she may tell you some stories about the pieces.) She then sat with me to talk about my concerns and interests. She's a good listener - genuine, intentional and collaborative in ensuring that what you like is what she delivers. When asking about how nano strokes might look over time, she was honest with me and level set expectations. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that kind of transparency -it's refreshing. She ended up cleaning up my brows, color correcting and adding a few strokes to the front and I tell you - I feel brand new (even fresh out of the chair, which we all know can feel a bit alarming before the color softens up in the healing process.) Additionally, it was evident through our conversation throughout that Simone is a beautiful human - inside and out. I enjoyed our chat and loved the result of her work. If you're in limbo, I suggest you go for it but have a good sense of what you're looking for. Bring examples of past work that you may like or try to go in with an understanding of the overall aesthetics of what appeals most to you. Simone is an expert, so the quality of the work speaks for itself. I feel relieved that I've found an artist that has an aesthetic of work and level of professionalism that I truly value to return to when needed. Thanks again so much, Simone!

N & J Nails is the rare exception. After visiting, you almost feel obligated to leave a 5-star review because they've earned it. For those who may not know, Tina and Ben haven't retired. They've simply moved on and created this wonderful salon. We weren't previous clients, but their reputation definitely preceded them. On a Saturday around 4:00 PM, my wife and I decided on a spur-of-the-moment manicure and pedicure date. Anyone who regularly visits nail salons knows that's usually a recipe for disappointment. Either the salon is fully booked, the wait is outrageous, or you end up with the technician nobody else wanted. Thankfully, luck was on our side. I went online and found only two appointment slots remaining. We selected our services, submitted the request, and within five minutes our appointment was confirmed. Shortly afterward, we received a phone call confirming everything and letting us know we could even arrive a little earlier if we'd like. Our appointment was scheduled for 5:15 PM. N & J Nails is located in Alexandria, just a few minutes from Potomac Yard and on the same block as Founding Farmers. Depending on traffic, the 9-mile drive from our home can take anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour. Thankfully, we made it in just under 30 minutes. Parking was easy. There is both street parking and garage parking available. We chose street parking and paid $4 for two hours, but learned that garage parking can be validated. When we arrived, we were greeted by the same gentleman who had called to confirm our appointment. It wasn't the typical "you're the last appointment of the day, let's get this over with" greeting. It felt like they had genuinely been expecting us and were happy we were there. We were offered beverages and snacks, then settled into the massage chairs for our pedicures. My wife worked with Tina while I had Linda. After reviewing the menu and confirming our selections, they made a few recommendations and got started. My wife chose a spa manicure and spa pedicure with gel polish and builder gel to help strengthen and grow out her natural nails. My service included callus removal, nail trimming and shaping, cuticle care, orange slices, a sea salt and mint mud foot mask, relaxing massage treatments, oil lotion massage, and hot towels. The total before tip was approximately $250 for both of us. Before Linda began, I warned her that I'm extremely ticklish. I usually end up asking technicians to skip the foot massage because it's never enjoyable. Not this time. For the first time ever, I was actually able to enjoy a foot massage. Linda clearly knew exactly what she was doing. There were a couple brief moments during the callus removal that tickled a little, but compared to every other pedicure I've received, it was minimal. The scrub, water temperature, calf massage, foot massage, and overall technique were absolutely perfect. The finished pedicure was flawless. Smooth feet. Perfectly trimmed and shaped nails. No pain. No bleeding. No rushing. What impressed me most was her attention to detail. Even after I would have been completely satisfied, she continued checking, refining, and perfecting her work. She clearly takes pride in what she does. The manicure was equally impressive. Every nail and cuticle received the same level of care and precision. Nothing felt rushed. Everything looked clean, polished, and professional. The hand massage was fantastic as well. I actually started writing this review on Saturday but intentionally waited until Monday to finish it because I wanted to see how everything held up. Two days later? Still perfect. My wife wrote her own review specifically for Tina, but she was equally impressed. Both Tina and Linda were exceptional. Throughout the appointment we shared laughs, had great conversation, and by the end it felt less like visiting a business and more like spending time with people who genuinely care about their clients. Even Ben stopped by toward the end and joined the conversation. That's what makes N & J Nails special. The services were excellent. The salon was spotless. Throughout our visit, staff continuously cleaned and maintained the space. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and relaxing. Most importantly, every person there genuinely seemed to care about delivering the best experience possible. I've been coming to Old Town Nail & Spa on and off for a while, mostly because it's close by…read more Unfortunately, this was my last visit. I had an appointment but still waited about 30 minutes. There were only three workers, which I understand, but it was still frustrating to wait that long with an appointment. The pedicure also felt rushed. Usually you get lotion and a little massage, but none of that was included. At that point I just wanted to get my nails done and leave. For my manicure, the technician used a portable UV lamp that made my nails burn. It was really uncomfortable, and he didn't seem concerned when I mentioned it. I got a French tip, and you could clearly see my nail beds through the polish. When I told him I wasn't happy with how it looked, he just said it was my natural nail instead of trying to fix it. The most disappointing part was the quality. I tipped, left, and in less than 24 hours my thumbnail had already chipped. That has never happened to me before not even when I do my own nails at home. I ended up going to a nail salon in South Carolina, and they immediately told me the nails weren't done well and that they wouldn't last. They also added a better nude base color so you couldn't see my nail beds anymore, which made a huge difference. That showed me that my nails could have been done correctly at Old Town Nail & Spa, but they simply weren't. They also told me more chipping was likely to happen. I paid a lot of money because I wanted my nails to look nice for a wedding that weekend, and instead I got poor-quality nails and disappointing customer service. Sadly, I won't be coming back.

i came in because it was one of the first salons suggested whenever i googled salons nearby. i came…read morein and the lady in the front was nice and helpful, but then i sat down for the pedicure and a younger girl started preparing it. it was evident she's new, and was getting guidance from the lady that was in the front. but then after the first minute or so she didn't get any more help. she was moving very slow, and that makes sense if she's super new. but also... she should have consistent supervision. another customer walked in 5-10 minutes after she started my pedicure and asked for a mani/pedi... by the time she was getting her toes painted my tech JUST started the massage. it was 50 minutes in by then. two other technicians walked by multiple times. looked and saw how long it was all taking and didn't say a word. they went to the back and started laughing a bunch. the front desk lady left the building at this point. i had to direct the girl and tell her what needed to be done. my leg and foot massage was only about 70-90 seconds long (the main reason i even get pedicures). ultimately a huge waste of $55+ also i asked her to make my nails short and flat.... she made them round. when i pointed it out she goes "but you said to make them short?" and proceeded putting clear polish on. finally... painted with the white polish getting it all over the skin. tried taking it off the skin with a brush but it was on too long. then started putting the top coat on. I was alittle nervous at first I've been wanting to do this for along time! I arrived 30 minutes prior to find parking which i asked Katie a good place to park she recommended balboa park since it's free and not too far. I ended up finding street parking close to the shop that was free. When i arrived i was greeted by Katie and asked to fill and sign the generic paperwork. We went back and started the process i explained to her i was nervous but she managed to make me feel so comfortable and trusting with her. She walked me through each stepped and applied numbing cream through out the whole process and made sure i was happy with what she drew out and asked if i wanted to change anything, she even mixed two colors to match my hair color perfectly. She kept asking if i felt anything and made sure i was doing okay. We did have a little trouble getting the pigment to stick to my skin, but she tried every trick in the book to make sure i was happy with my end result. My eyebrows did feel very raw and sore after the tattooing, however i absolutely love how they turned out and i wouldn't have wanted anyone else to do them! Katie is amazing, dedicated and a perfectionist. She took the time to made sure my eyebrows were up to her standards even though it took a bit longer then expected, but i respect her and her work ethic for that! Katie is AMAZING. I went in for my initial appointment and she was meticulous and professional. She made sure I was numb the entire time, measured everything out to a T, took her time, and gave me all of the aftercare instructions I needed! I was extremely happy after the first session, but the 6-8 week touch up (that she recommended and scheduled for me after my first appointment) was a definite necessity, but HOLY COW my brows have never looked better! The second appointment was even better than the first, she made the necessary adjustments to make sure the pigment stayed in my skin, and that the "hair strokes" were exactly the way I wanted them. Katie is sweet, a pleasure to talk to, and awesome at what she does. I cannot recommend her enough!...Also: her prices are EXTREMELY fair for the result that you get! First off, my brows are amazing and Katie is the best! The first impression I received was warm and welcoming! Katie explained everything in detail, step by step, so I knew exactly what was going on (and when not to be alarmed when hearing an interesting sound ). I really enjoyed her and made the experience so great! When it comes to her work, she really knows what she is doing! You can tell when someone loves what they do bc you can see it! And let me tell you, she numbs the heck out of you (initially and throughout the microblading) bc I didn't feel a thing! Just ask her why and she will tell you her experience anyway, she is very professional and a perfectionist. I highly recommend seeing Katie to have the brows of your dreams. Katie McCarthy is not only a super talented brow artist, but an amazing teacher! I took Katies' Beginners Microblading Course in September. I did a ton of research before choosing Katie; theres so many microblading trainings out there and its a big investment so I wanted to make sure I was going with the absolute best! Katie's small class size was awesome because I felt like I got a lot of 1 on 1 attention and support, the kit was nearly twice the size of what most other trainings were offering (literally nothing was left out) and I felt like we were really getting the inside scoop on what the best products and tools are because she wasn't trying to sell us extra tools and supplies like a lot of other classes! Where to even start? Katie was awesome!! She was professional, a great listener, a perfectionist, knowledgeable, and so SWEET! I went in to my appointment not knowing exactly what I wanted. Katie took the time to listen to what I researched and that I want something natural. She took time to explain what she thought and how she was going to get the natural look. She made me feel really comfortable and educated me during the process by explaining what she was doing the whole way through. I cannot recommend Katie highly enough! I wanted NATURAL looking brow strokes without any shading and I was terrified that my brows would look too "done", dark, or sculpted. Katie took so much time to explain to me the entire process start to finish. She is a PERFECTIONIST and made sure I was 100% comfortable with each step before moving forward. I should also mention that she does custom color blends for your brow color. Katie had the day off, but I was only in town for 1 day and she drove over 1 hour from home to meet me! Excellent! The salon was very clean, modern and welcoming. Katie was so careful and a real perfectionist. Taking her time, measuring, drawing and ensuring I was comfortable. I didn't feel thing. It was pretty relaxing the entire time, only thing I heard was a tiny velcro noise. So happy to have found her! Katie is a real professional and is truly skilled in her art of microblading. It's in between a classic and volume application. I believe the owner herself did it as she said she teaches as well. I got curled lashes that were only a little bit longer than my own (straight, nice length, doesn't curl and doesn't have a ton of volume). The application was done so thoroughly and its funny I cannot even feel the lashes. I forget they're there. I don't have a fear my real lashes will rip out either as with nail salon lashes. I was given a little lash brush for grooming as well which I never got before. I highly recommend. So excited to be 'ready roll' for my trip. Here is a timeline of my visits: June 24 July 19 (25 DAYS, OVER TWO WEEKS) minimal results from first appointment - tons of movement in my face that I specifically requested to address July 29 (10 DAYS) zero results from second appointment (and zero results from this visit too) This review was written August 18, which is plenty of time for the neuromodulator to kick in after that experience (20 days). Regardless, as I type this update on October 3, I can tell you I did not experience ANY results from that third visit. I refused to put myself through another expensive visit with no results, so I didn't go back for a fourth visit. So I am still sticking by my original review. I've attached photos to confirm the timeline. Instead of believing patients who have had a poor experience, this place chooses to act like we are all idiots because we want something we paid for with a skilled injector who knows what they're doing. There is literally NO reason for me to have NO results between three appointments, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I had FULL movement in my forehead. The owner said Breanna likes to give patients a "natural look" which I guess means you're still going to have heavy movement which will lead to more wrinkles and spending more money at this place for all touch ups.
