I was in the mood for GOOD soul food last weekend. I went in my Yelp app and realized there weren't much options close to Flatbush area. I drove to Katie O Soul and liked there was a short line and DJ outside. One window opened a wonderful young lady asked if I have eaten there before and I said no. I love the tiny sample cups and spoons because you try before you buy and know exactly what to order once you get to the cashier. The frozen pina colada was super creamy and perfect amount of sweetness. The Mac and cheese and candied yams were a perfect combo for me. The fried chicken wings were well seasoned like someone granny made it. Be prepared to wake because I was there over 10 mins and my food was piping hot like the chicken was just fried. I will definitely be back for the customer service and food. I also love any donations (they don't accept tips) the team claps and announce to the crowd and all proceeds provide FREE home cooked meals to people in need. read more

Got the jumbo shrimp platter. The shrimp were fried perfectly and they sure were jumbo. The tater sauce was delicious I'm not sure if it was homemade or now. For sides I got the collard greens and Mac and cheese. The collard greens were on the sweet side which I didn't enjoy. The Mac and cheese was fabulous. I visited this restaurant on a Friday hoping to avoid the long lines I heard about. I originally planned to order and pick up via door dash or uber eats but they were not accepting orders via apps that day. So instead, I walked in and was 3rd online but by the time I got to the window to order the place was packed. The line that quickly developed made me believe that the food would be really great. Also, there were several people that joined the line behind me that spoke very highly of the food out loud. I heard so many people online praising the food out loud I almost thought I was in a scripted movie scene. hmmm?? I ordered the fried chicken meal with collard greens and potato salad for my sides. I avoided the mac n cheese because I was told it would take an hour to prepare. I also decided to order the banana pudding and soul punch as well based on the many positive yelp reviews I read. After getting my order and trying everything at home with a family member I was disappointed. Overall, the food was average. The fried chicken was the best part of the meal BUT I have definitely had better at various restaurants in Harlem. The potato salad was my least favorite because it definitely was missing seasoning, but the collard greens were good to me. None of the food impressed my family either. The soul punch was very good but if I ever returned, I would never buy that banana pudding again. I always try to support small businesses especially minority owned businesses. What an experience! The entire staff, owner etc. was so pleasant. The owner was so welcoming. You're immediately greeted when you walk in and asked if you would like to try samples of the food. The prices are very high but I ordered the pork chop platter $25 cool and the chickens bite snack $12. The pork chop fried to perfection and tasted great. The chicken bites were good just not enough. The sides I only will recommend the collards which were very good meaty and a kick. Potato salad was ok needed a boost in flavor. The Mac and cheese was also ok but no reason to order again. The yams needed up being mashed sweets with a WHOLE LOTTA SUGAR of some sort, no cinnamon or nutmeg just sugar. They say the wait time is about 30 minutes overall not worth the wait, IMO. While I live 200 mile's away and took the train from Penn to BK and back about 1 hour I don't see me going again or recommending unless you live close by and nothing decent is available. After a funeral at One Troy. Cousins had a taste for soul food...so Katie O Soul it was for Halloween night. Some of the items they didn't have but the ones they did were on point. I ordered the turkey, cornbread stuffing, guava juice, collard greens, candied yams, and banana pudding. Environment was welcoming and the food was 10s across the board. The issue became the wait time. Now I understand that you wait for freshly cooked food but sadly that wasn't our experience. As of this writing this place has gone viral, so depending on the time you get there be prepared for minimum 1-2 hr wait for decent food. It didn't help that they opened 1/2 hr late. They did give out samples for those waiting a long time, though not everyone. The collard greens had so much sugar in them tasted like sugar water, no flavor what so ever like not even salt. The fried chicken was seasoned with sazon for sure. Who even thought of that? I scrolled on by this restaurant late night while searching for soul food on Uber Eats. Of course fees/taxes and such are ridiculous so I decided to wait an extra day and stop by in person and I'm glad I did. Customer service is superb. Very pleasant people in a small hole in the wall joint. Hubby ordered and waited outside for the food because you know, Covid! Moving along. The food is AMAZING! It's very hard to find good soul food in the city, let alone in Brooklyn. All was great, however I do have a very few minor complaints. The jerk pork is made with what I believe were Ham-Hocks and that turned me completely off due to all the unnecessary fat and strong taste of the hocks. The jerk flavor was on point of course but I wasn't expecting Jerk Pork to be a ham hock. Secondly the collard greens are overly seasoned but nonetheless it taste great,not entirely like collards but great. Lastly, the chicken was also overly seasoned on the salty side but again it was very good. A little less seasoning on the greens and chicken, along with real pork butt or pork shoulder would make this a 5 star joint for sure. Macaroni and cheese was some cheesy goodness and so were the yams and potato salad. Will I come back again? Heck Yes! Grab a friend, place and order to go and sit down outside to eat. Ok wow! We've passed by here so many times but it was never open. Serendipitously, we walked by, saw that it was open, and stopped in. We are SO glad we did. My husband and I met "Darrell" who was smiling from behind the counter. Before we even had a chance to browse the menu, he was offering us samples of lemonade and best-seller sides. After a little misunderstanding on the phone, I was a little wary of ordering from this place because I'm a stickler for customer service. However then woman on the phone just explained she was a little overwhelmed it was a particularly busy Friday and she was understaffed. Having worked in food service my self, I was completely empathetic and decided to order my meal for pickup. Now I had my reservations but she gave me an exact time frame for my food to be ready and she delivered on that promise. Boy can she cook her butt off. My salmon cakes were perfectly fried, beautifully and delicately seasoned. The Mac and cheese was great ( I prefer mines a little sharper ) it was flavorful and on point.
