Yelp reviewers tend to be more honest and consistent, and I should have listened. Final Thoughts: Traveling all the way from Boston for this experience was a letdown. If it were not for how I was raised, the tip would have been 10 percent, and even that would have been forced. This was my second time here and it's more of a 3.5 star review. Stopped in with a girlfriend of mine around noon after a 5k in prospect park on Saturday. The place wasn't busy when we arrived, but it was by the time we left around 2. Place is a decent size, but it can get super crowded. Service this time was much better than my last visit. Our server Diamond was really cool and open to giving menu recommendations. There was a mix of soca and dancehall playing and I appreciate that it was at an appropriate volume where you could hold a conversation. For drinks, I had "The Pash" which was fine (nothing amazing) and my friend had a mango slush with rum. For the appetizer, we shared the ackee and saltfish bammy bites. Those were really good and I remember liking them. For entrees, my friend got the jerk chicken which she (as a Jamaican) said was super spicy, but manageable once you get past the jerk sauce. I had the Belgian waffles and shrimp. The flavor of both were good, but here's where I had the problem. My waffles came out damn near cold. I sent them back. They were apologetic and I was promised fresh waffles. When they came out the second time, they STILL weren't hot but I dealt with it. The restaurant was packed and the bouncer at the door only let us in after we stated that we had a reservation. They ended up being able to seat 10 people together and the other 6 (my table) sat at a different table. Be ready to open your wallet really wide when you come here because it is not cheap! If you do shareable plates and split the check amongst one another you can save a lot of money though. There's also a waiting area off to the right, which works well if you're waiting for the rest of your party or to be seated. One detail that really stood out to me was seeing someone actively managing the floor -- greeting guests, seating them, and offering water while people waited. That's not something you often see in Jamaican restaurants, which are usually structured differently, so it felt like a really intentional and elevated touch. As someone who grew up in Jamaica, I was especially curious to see how this restaurant balanced traditional Jamaican flavors while also appealing to a wider range of palates within a more modern dining setup. I ordered the macaroni and cheese, the brown stew snapper with mixed vegetables, and rice and peas. I had never had macaroni and cheese made by a Jamaican person before -- it wasn't a Sunday staple growing up -- so I was genuinely curious. The rice and peas ended up being a standout for me; you could tell the coconut milk was used really well, and that depth of flavor came through. I also had the carrot juice, which was really good. The ambiance was a cool vibe and lively. The service was a bit dodgy because we waited more time to receive our food and we were the first to order amongst the other parties, but received our food nearly last. Our waiter barely checked on us and we waited long for our bill. My party stated their food was good, and I tried the curry lobster which was good. I think the curry salmon I ordered was not satisfying possibly because the salmon temperature was cool, the flavor lacked, and the texture was overcooked. I went for the first time on Thursday after work. I had an amazing time and experience. Danisha was my server. I sat at the bar. I hope I spelled her name right. She kept the most pleasant smile on her face. She was so friendly. And attentive. Her drinks are on point. I had 2 Notorius. The food was also good. However, The cod fish fritter appetizer had too much breading mixed in it. Barely any cod fish. They need to work on that but my brown stew snapper was to die for. So damn good. The atmosphere was a chill vibe. The music was the right genre for the crowd. I was drinking and jamming. LOL.
