Ample room in the spots, a great pool and laundry room, nestled in between two peaks so the stars shine bright and they can accommodate everything from super long to popping a dang tent! Everyone in the office is soooo nice, I'm talkin to you Robin, Tammy and Linda! There's a really friendly man who rolls around in the golf cart too but I don't know his name. Communicative, helpful and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves is what this place is all about.... Also, this location is perfect to enjoy the rally (or whatever event is happening) in either Deadwood or Sturgis but not you're be stuck in the chaos. It's nice and quiet. We've met some great friends camping here though. People walking their dogs or just taking a stroll will stop by if you give them a smile, and I really like that. This is one of those reviews I hope works out well for the establishment but doesn't make it harder for me to get in...... that has happened lol Totally worth the risk though..... it's a great place to vacation so I had to share!

I like hanging around in the morning and make new friends in this place. It's convenient, clean and the (young) staff very friendly. During the rally the parking is packed with cool vendors. They also don't gouge the gas price. Make sure you stop say hi and check all the stuffed trophies.

Their small cabins have no running water however the bathrooms are only steps away. The bathroom building has showers and laundry available and they keep them squeaky clean. Very nice amenities. The cabins themselves come with AC, heat, Cable TV, microwave and mini fridge. Each cabin also has a provided picnic table, fire pit and BBQ pit. We brought our own propane cooktop and pop up shade. Both are not a necessity. The General store and gas station were super convenient and vendors fill the parking lot at rally time. The store has almost everything you might need while camping. The jerky and gourmet pickle selection was awesome! We also enjoyed the dried fruit. All available at the general store. Another great stay at a high class camping lodge!!! It wasn't too loud at night but you were still able to enjoy yourself. The bathrooms/showers/primp area for the woman's was wonderful and really threw me off. I was expecting it to be a little rough but I felt right at home and loved being able to get clean after a ride each day. The small restaurant has good breakfast and great snacks throughout the day. Their small store has almost anything to accommodate you too. It's a convenient location near the Beaver Bar, a bus stop is nearby to take you into town if you plan to drink responsibly and not ride. I would definitely recommend this place!

I would expect this rating to improve as the improvements to the facility continue. We stayed for a week and would certainly come back if we find ourselves in the area. As it stands, here are some pros and cons: PROS- The location is beautiful and very peaceful with great night skies. It's out of town but not too far out to access stores and restaurants. There are quite a few full hook up sites, but for those who only get into an electric and water site, the shower houses are nice. We came late in the season so they needed a little cleaning and maintenance, but they have good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The laundry facilities are free. The machines are a little tired, but you can't beat free! Over the air TV reception is good. We got 15 to 20 channels including the four major networks. The owner, Terri, is very accommodating and wants to make this an inviting facility. CONS- The full hook up sites back up to a road. This was not a big deal for us and the road is not very busy, especially overnight. The water pressure is pretty low and variable. The sites are currently all grass and have no fire ring or picnic table. There is no Wi-Fi. (In our experience, even the places that advertise Wi-Fi still don't have it...). However, we have Verizon cell service and got four bars of signal.

We booked a room for our anniversary through a reservations service ( to be reviewed shortly). I…read morespecifically requested the Potato Creek Suite since it was our 30th anniversary and we were looking for a special experience. We were assured that we had that suite. When we arrived we discovered that the service had mis-booked our request and the lodge would not honor that room . Instead, they put us in one of their standard rooms. Since this was not satisfactory, we requested a refund. The lodge informed us that there was nothing that they could do and that we needed to reach out to the reservations service. We did this and they agreed to refund the money and sent us an email to that effect. We shared that email with the person working the desk and he agreed, cancelled our reservation, and returned our pet deposit. We found other accommodations. Today, two days later, we received an email from the reservation's service stating that the lodge had decided not to cancel this reservation so they were required to send the money to the lodge and could not credit my card. As a result, the Spearfish Canyon Lodge received $519.57 of my money after they had cancelled our reservation and we had left the hotel. My suggestion is that no one should book either this hotel. They will gladly send you sway and then later inform you that they intend to keep your fees if I could have, I would give them zero stars but, unfortunately, one is the least that I could do.

They have regular bikes, but we rented ebikes since well the Black Hills are actually hilly! They even offer a shuttle service instead of riding out and back. Very convenient. We chose to be dropped off and rode back. When we rented snowmobiles on a different trip here they worked great and trails were beautiful with the pines covered in fresh snow. Trails are marked at every intersection "you are here" that you really don't even need a paper map. Highly recommend.

Short drive to Mt. Rushmore and Needles road etc.. Smaller rooms but what else do you need???? Clean and neat - common area for heating up food and eating etc. We did not rent the 4-wheelers but, it seemed to be very popular! Everyone there was friendly and helpful with suggestions on what to do and where to go in the area! That is everyone except Mike!! ; ) Just kidding Mike was fun as well!
