We had what is, in my opinion, the strangest move in history. The only thing that went well was Kato Moving. We had to go for the full spa treatment - they packed us, moved our stuff into storage, then move it out of storage and into our new home. The staff were all great from start to finish. The best part is that all the actual movers enjoyed each other and got along well. Imagine being a mover and having to carry a china hutch with your office enemy. Not at all an issue with Kato Moving! Were there a few issues with the move? Sure, but what move goes off without a hitch? One issue with Kato Moving is that they were not great at labeling boxes. Most boxes from the basement were just labeled "basement" despite there being five different rooms in the basement (two storage rooms, one mechanical room, one office, and one bedroom). If they had been better at labeling boxes we would have had an easier time knowing where a box went in the new home. The second issue has been a bit more costly. One of the movers took apart my Ikea bed for moving. Please know that Kato Moving insurance does not cover any particle board furniture. The problem came up when it was put together again at our new home. One of the side rails was jammed together too roughly. That has resulted in the side railing splitting and falling apart. Unfortunately that means I have to buy a whole new bed since Ikea doesn't sell parts. When moving our family motto has always been "Beds are the last thing on so they are the first things off!". If you have two trucks for moving have the furniture on one truck and boxes on the second. Request to have the furniture placed first. Then the boxes can easily go into the correct rooms. read more

So tired of dealing with the incompetence of this moving company. My stuff has been left in storage for almost 4 weeks now and 2 weeks past the window for arrival. They have been making "plans" but nothing is actually happening. All we're getting is wishy washy ideas and saying "sorry, we're working on it", let alone the fact that we have to call them or else there is no communication. I JUST WANT MY STUFF!!!! read more

Made numerous cross-country moves. First time with Kato Moving & Storage, a subsidiary of Mayflower from Mankato, Minnesota to San Antonio, Texas. Worst experience ever. Everything that was breakable did break. Items valuing hundreds of dollars. Request claim form. Never received. Won't bother with trying again. Too annoying to deal with this company, so all broken pieces were discarded. Did not bother to take photos. Too many items broken. Computer desk did not make it to my new residence. Very sloppy, careless, unprofessional packing. Do yourself a big favor and find another mover. read more

We moved on July 29th 2019 in rural farming community from one large farm house to a very small farm house 3 miles away. Dakota, Jonah, and 2 very nice strong college men. All four worked steady taking only one break, no lunch loading and unloading the big Mayflower Truck making two trips. Everything was wrapped in heavy blankets and strapped in place. They moved and climbed many stairs working steady. I had many many boxes all marked where to be placed and we also had some very heavy pieces. I was amazed at how strong these guys were and very happy as they were very professional and friendly guys. I liked the idea of the rugs used at both places too to keep from soiling the new carpets and floors. It was a 10 hour day for them and it was very hot that day. I furnished them with lots of bottled water too which they thanked us for. They were all very friendly and professional and careful with our things. We had many-many boxes and lots of heavy items. I would recommend them for sure and I will use them again if we have to move someday. read more

DO NOT recommend. The crew took FOREVER and either needed more training or different responsibilities. The onsite lead was the only one who kept it moving along that day. Checking their phones constantly and sitting on our furniture in the driveway Then they broke and damaged a lot of our furniture for our cross country move. The company who unloaded our crates couldn't believe how terrible they were packed and took more photos than we did. It was one of the worst experiences of the 10+ moves we've gone through. The owners never returned calls or emails and we had to go through corporate to handle not only our delivery day and time but the claims for the damaged items. Very good crew of movers packed up our belongings efficiently, exactly when expected, in mid-June for our cross-country move. It was a great start. But then we drove cross-country and Kato put our belongings in a warehouse in Mankato and left them there. So far our belongings have not yet been delivered -- 3.5 weeks after they were loaded and two weeks past our delivery window end date. All of our belongings are still sitting in their warehouse. While the agent keeps apologizing (whenever we call them -- they never call us), that is not a good substitute for having our belongings. The 'delay' compensation ($100 per day that we can claim later-- after delivery and payment of the original full binding estimate) is not nearly enough to make up for this inconvenience. And there is no end in sight-- they seem to have no clear plan to find a driver or move our items some other way. I don't know why they ever contracted to do a job they have no means to carry out. We planned and reserved this more than 2 months in advance so there is no excuse for this lack of competence on Mayflower/Kato's part. read more

We just completed an interstate move. The final leg was managed by Kato Moving. Rick and Dakota transferred our household belongings from the truck, placing everything with care. Both were professional and personable. Would definitely recommend, at least for a local move. read more

I am so unimpressed with this company. The moving guys were very nice but took FOREVER. Checking their phones constantly, while I was helping. Then they broke half of my furniture. When I pointed out broken items, they said I could make a claim but they'd probably get fired. I feel bad for them for working for this company, but that is NOT my problem. Don't break things. Then I called to ask for a payment adjustment due to broken items and they thought $150 was worth over $300 of broken items! Called again to see if their furniture repair people could come fix an item and they said they would call me back and never did. I'm not paying them until they give me more money off the total. I hired Kato Movers/Mayflower on 02/16/2018 to move me from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom town home. After they had moved me in one of the movers pointed out tears in my couch. Even though they were small I still wanted this issue resolved and corrected. The couch was $1450 dollars, I am still making payments on the couch, and it is less than a year old. I wrote to Mary on 02/19/2018 that following Monday morning to tell her I wanted to file a claim. She asked me to send her pictures and I did send her pictures right away. She responded saying they will review and get back to me within a few days. It was 02/22/2018 and I still hadn't heard anything back from them so I emailed her again following up to see about the review in which she responded that Kerry will be calling within the next 30 minutes or tomorrow morning. I had changed my number since I moved so I emailed her back stating that my number has changed and provided her with the new number. Kerry did not call me within 30 minutes or the next morning. On 02/25/2018 I emailed Mary again stating that I still haven't received a call from Kerry and she responded stating Kerry told her he called and left a voicemail and she will have him check again. As of today 02/27/2018 almost two weeks later I have not even been contacted in regards to the damages to the couch. read more

There are few times in life I have ever negatively reviewed a company. Unfortunately, Mayflower's poor service and outrageous bill has me doing so. I do NOT recommend their service. Call Piepho or Quist moving; I do recommend either of their services:)! Since we never had a negative experience with a moving company, we mistakenly trusted a company that damaged our furniture, inefficiently moved us, and significantly overcharged us... Not to mention, other than our initial conversation, were not all that pleasant or professional to correspond with. read more

Do not use this company!!! Worse experience EVER!! We have move 9 times and this is the first time we have had 80+ items ruined with a claim of $17,000+!!! Family heirlooms from 1900 Italy, antiques from the 30s and 40s along with collector items that are numbered and signed!!! So many items not tagged and now having trouble making a claim on them because the claims department for mayflower says its our fault that the people from kato didnt do their job correctly. Oh, did i mention that the sales rep came out and did his check and ran through our house in 15minutes? Yep, we had 21,000 pounds and he was able to accurately figure things out in 15 minutes. He also was combative with me about getting 2 items crated!! We are a government contract, we can have things crated!!! I stood my ground and my husband contacted him and demmanded they be crated, thankfully because each item was non replaceable, but why did we have to do that? Arent we the customers dont we get what we want? Well, not eith them thats for sure. By the way, dont use mayflower either!! Dealing with them now for 4 months trying to get our claim paid!!!
