Through talking with her and the treatment I feel like I gained a better understanding of how I hold stress in my body. While receiving the treatment I had a memory of my father from childhood and a way that he held his body when he was concentrating that my sister and I used to laugh about. I realized, in that moment that I had the exact same stress holding patterns as my father. I think that after this treatment I have had better access to noticing when these neuro pathways are activated and being able to "hit the reset button " which usually involves slowing down and taking some deep breaths. There was no one at the desk at first, but one of the acupuncturists soon came out and checked me in. She showed me where the restrooms were, asked me to take a seat and said my acupuncturist would soon be with me. My acupuncturist asked me some health questions in the private room where I was to have my treatment. She listened and didn't dismiss anything I said like my regular doctor often does. Then she explained where she would be inserting the needles and why. She also went into detail about what I could expect during the session, which I appreciated. Most of the needle insertions were painless, but a few hurt a bit. The pain went away quickly. The acupuncturist turned out the lights and left the room as I laid on my back on the table with the needles in me. I couldn't feel them as long as I didn't move. I'm not sure how long I laid there, but it was very warm and relaxing with gentle music playing. I almost fell asleep. I had a button I could press if I needed help and the acupuncturist checked on me a couple times. She removed the needles and then had me rollover on to my stomach for cupping on my upper back to help with pain relief in my neck and shoulders. As I drove up to the clinic, there was parking on the street, but I drove around back to park in their little parking lot facing some apartments. I walked in what seemed like the back entrance and walked up to the front where there was a receptionist desk, who greeted me to fill out some paperwork. She was very helpful and then I asked where the restroom was. My massage therapist had my room ready around the corner, he didn't introduce himself, but asked me, "are you_____(my name)?" I agreed and he said the room was available around the corner. In all honesty, I'm a chronic pain with a lot of things to undergo and look out for, but he was was very helpful in targeting the areas that hurt on my shoulder and back. I paid I believe 20 extra dollars to do a deep tissue massage, they had a technical name, but I forgot what it was.
