They were knowledgeable, hilarious, and incredibly kind. Rick educated us on all the agriculture grown on the farm which was fascinating, and was able to answer any questions anyone threw at him. The positive reviews for the Rum Safari sucked me in, and the experience did not disappoint! The Rum Guys, Bruce and Tanji, led us on a delightful journey through Kilohana Plantation with detailed info on the history, animals, and plant life there at the plantation. We especially enjoyed touring the orchard, including the banana slap experience (!!!), and learning about different types of fruits that can grow in the Kauai climate. The rum tasting also did not let us down. We sampled different flavors of Koloa Rum (the safari and the Rum Guys are unaffiliated with Koloa Rum, which had a separate tasting room and shop on site), followed by a Mai Tai and an additional fresh cocktail. Bruce and Tanji were excellent guides and comedians, delighting my whole party, which contained a range of ages and senses of humor. My uncle was really impressed with their ability to read the room and crack exactly the right jokes to make all of us laugh. The tour guides really make the experience what it is and they were freaking hilarious the entire time, all the while giving suggestions for areas to visit both in the immediate venue and around the entire island. I love the rum shots and the Mai Thais that they decided to make - I can't remember the names yet they were amazing. First time to Kauai and we heard about this Rum Safari tour (called: Kauai Safari, apparently not affiliated by Koala Run Company, they just serve the rum as part of the "safari"). We have done all the touristy things on the other Islands and this seemed to be a WAY different experience! We didn't know what to expect but heard that the Mai Tai was SO good! Wait....we get a Mai Tai with the tour! Sign me up! Rick and Tiny were our guides (only on Fridays apparently) were awesome, they made the two hour tour FUN and entertaining! Be prepared it is a trek through the farm and random terrains but that made it more entertaining. They picked fruit off the trees for us to try and the ingredients for their "farm to glass" cocktail (yes another one!) Actually, we also had 4 shots of the various rums, Hawaiian Gold, Dark, Coconut, and Chocolate (total of 3 tastings!) if you are looking for something to do other than a Luau or Dinner Cruise, book now, you wont't regret it! Also, there were cute farm animals along the way (they gave us some tortillas to feed them). FYI, even if you're not a fan of Rum and or do not drink, it is still a fun tour and worth it! This far exceeded my expectations! The property is beautiful and learning how the owner is giving access to other farmers to support the community was great. The guides were fun and friendly. Feeding the animals as we drove through was fun. They had insect repellant when we got to the forested (VERY WET) sections, but the bars where we had drinks were all covered. You will get a bit wet on rainy days, but they had ponchos for free if you wanted. This was honestly the best mai tai I have had. The second drink was one I had not heard of and was also delicious. They also shared recommendations for other food tours and restaurants that they like (and are NOT getting kickbacks for recommending). I will definitely be back with friends. read more

When I was visiting Kauai before I skipped this attraction. What a mistake. The mansion is open and lovely with shops scattered throughout. The restaurant was great. There's a train tour that's great for families...tours the grounds and animal enclosures. However...the adult rum tour is definitely a "don't miss" activity. Our guides Tiny and Rick were fun, informative and they are generous with the tastings. They concoct some amazing beverages out of the Koloa Rum. I don't want to give too much away but we had a great time and we will definitely do this again next visit. You won't regret this one. read more

But let's get to the good stuff which is the rum tour - omg! Drinks were fresh and delicious I wanted to buy some mix but unfortunately it is made fresh with no preservatives so they did not have it for sale. Hands down on of the highlights on our trip to Kaua'i. The guides were awesome. Stopping through the orchard to try some of the fruits. Staff is very knowledgeable about what they are growing. There are two stops for tastings which include tastings/shots of the Koala rums and two cocktails. The first stop and cocktail was the king of the Tiki Drinks the Mai Tai. The second stop was at a taro pond and the cocktail was a seasonal one which included the mountain apple that is grown in Kaua'i. Kinda like a pear. The drink was made with a cook down of that apple with a apple cider vinegar as the base syrup. Wasn't sure how it was going to taste, but it was very delicious. Overall was a great time and everyone was having fun (not the drink kind which is nice). I wished they had a tour of the grounds similar like this for younger people, because the grounds themselves what just that nice. read more
