Nono and Cannon were awesome. We did the afternoon Napali Coast tour. Gotta snorkel on the south end of the island. Saw a couple turtles and some awesome fish. We went into a couple sea caves with were so cool to see. The navigation was impeccable. If you have a bad back or get sea sick, you may want to skip it. Otherwise, this is a great tour with breathtaking views.

Best thing to do in Kauai was this!!! Can't explain how amazing the tour was and how great Matt (the guy on the ship) was. Not only was the boat amazing, Matt did a great job of making everyone feel welcome. In my opinion, this was better than the helicopter ride. Beware, you will feel like you're on a 4 hour roller coaster with one hour snorkeling adventure. Wasn't promised but we got to see MANY fish while snorkeling, sea turtles, dolphin, whales (multiple) and the full Nāpali coastline.

Captain J's Nāpali coast tour was nothing short of amazing. Originally I wanted to go on a smaller adventure raft where you sit on the side and hold on to the ropes. My husband wanted a more relaxed trip so we decided on the raft boat that had seats. Man am I glad we did! We had a choppy day on the water and it was a crazy ride out to the coast. But I felt totally capable in the hands of Nono and Jeff who were our captains. Nono knew how to ride the waves and made sure we had a safe and fun time on the water. The views of the Napali coast are breathtaking. We went on the morning ride and in hindsight, the afternoon would have had better lighting to view the Kalalau Valley, as we had the sun coming up behind the mountains once we got there. Still got some amazing shots of the cliffs. The sea was too rough to enter the cave completely but Nono still got us in enough to experience the thrill in a safe manner. We saw spinner dolphins and some bottle nose dolphins doing flips and jumping out of the water. The snorkeling was great-we even swam with a sea turtle. The crew was helpful, making sure everyone was okay with snacks and drinks. It was an adventurous day in the water!!

This was the highlight of our trip. Capt knew were the whales were and they put on a show. The crew were informative and funny. Great music.

I was dreading getting up at 6 to make it to Captain J's super raft Napoli Coast tour as we needed to be there 45 minutes early for the @7:30 start time. But when we got to the store front, the dread went away when I saw other people looking enthusiastic to get going. There were 24 people (28 is the max) in our group and it felt like a perfect amount. Captain Andrew and Shane (the guide) briefed us quickly before we took off, and made sure we were well informed during the rest of the trip. Today we were lucky to have mild waves and crystal clear water. We saw many spinner dolphins which was exciting as they travelled in a giant pod. During the snorkeling session, we saw many colorful fish and some sea turtles. Captain Andrew and Shane were very patient and helped everyone get in and out of the water. Since everyone was on time and the conditions were perfect, we were able to go a little further north and see more sea caves, which was pretty magical. Overall, we had a blast and would totally recommend the tour to anyone.

Absolutely incredible!!! Nono and cannon were sick, this captain has skills. Cannons history lessons on the island were super cool. This is by far the best experience we've had yet on the islands. Will for sure be bringing family on this trip next time. But seriously these guys deserve a raise, and if your hesitating don't just book the trip 10/10

We had a blast with Captain CJ!! 10/10 recommend! We saw dolphins, turtles, tons of fish, waterfalls, sea caves you name it!! The boat was awesome and was comfortable without sacrificing maneuverability in tight spaces like the caves!

Had a WONDERFUL experience with Nolo and Cannon! My husband and I did another charter earlier in the week and this one surpassed it by far! Our first snorkel spot was too murky so they took us to their secondary spot where we saw plenty of fish and turtles! We got real up close to the cliffs and got in some great pictures. Would recommend to anyone!

What an AWESOME trip down the coast! Captain Nohili and Max were SO. MUCH. FUN! We partied the whole time! It was a thrill ride from beginning to end with great story. From entering the caves to getting soaked by waterfalls, topped off with some great snorkeling . Fun from beginning to end. The cherry on top was the music choices to fit the mood. We can add karaoke to the mix too! A MUST DO.

My first experience ever at the sea and on a boat. This place is fantastic. The captain Jay and his assistant Noah make this experience the best of my life. The boat was very equipped for an emergency. The tour shows everything you need to know about the island. Because the boat wasn't big, we can enter into caves to see how wonderful God is and his creation. They stopped and people snorkeling. Tour is aprox 4 hours in a half. The place has different tour options to choose from. I highly recommend this place.

Let me start by saying that this company, from start to finish, really helped create the best experience for us here on Kaua'i. Every crew member we had (6 different ones), and the front desk ladies were amazing. They created a great environment. This company really cares about you getting what you paid for - which is an awesome time out on the water & seeing the most you can. The boats are very nice, and while the trip doesn't have a lot of fancy embellishments - I preferred that. So here I go in my in-depth review of our 3 trips out with Captain J's! When we first landed we saw this advertised in the airport. I had done a lot of research on different boat tours, but hadn't seen anything that really fit the bill in my mind. I had some older members in my party that weren't interested in a "holding onto the raft" zodiac rides (which I love), and I wasn't interested in a overly expensive catamaran trip... When we saw that their boats were a nice compromise between the two, we decided to book with them! We started with a whale watch. Our first crew members were Landon & Matt. They were great, but the whales just were not preforming. In fact, we didn't see a single one! And you can't control nature! But then Captain J's really shined through... they worked with us to get booked again! I have never EVER had a tour do this. It really made an impression that they cared about you getting the experience you paid for. So we rebooked for later in our trip. It was at this point we decided we wanted to do a Napli Coast tour. Now while this may change, at this time, if you booked this tour with them and they had to reroute, you could choose not to go and get a refund. Based on the research I had done, I did not see this offered by any other tour! And winter in Kauai - the weather on that coast is very unpredictable, so I appreciated this! We then went on our second whale tour with our favorite crew!!! CJ & Nohili! They were absolutely fantastic and were so much fun. We saw at least 10 whales, and had such a great time. It really was a blast. The next morning we got up early for our coast tour. Now - let me say: the waters on the coast were serious. Ryan, our captain - handled the water great, but if you're wondering if you can handle the weather, I would suggest giving serious consideration to if you can handle this trip in the winter. The two older members of our party did not do this trip, and I think that was the best decision. As their website says, this is an adventure tour! So be prepared for one! On the coast trip we saw more whales, hundreds of dolphins, and the coast was breathtaking. In the morning, the sun starts filtering through the cliffs, and with the sea mist rising - the area looks fierce. It was quite a sight to behold. Afterward, they took us back to smoother water, to a nice area to snorkel. It wasn't anything over the top amazing, but there was plenty of sea life and more coral than I had seen in other parts of the island. Light snacks and drinks are provided, and you can always bring additional food. Like I said - no frills, but I wasn't interested in paying $75-100 more for a nicer lunch. Over take-aways: This is a no frills tour that centers on the adventure. The staff is great, and focuses on giving you the best experience possible. I am so glad we found this tour group, and booking with them really completed our trip to Kaua'i. Mahalo to the entire Captain J's team!

On July 4th, 2025, my sister (Veronica) & I went on Captain J's Tour of the NaPali Coast (afternoon trip). It was excellent & I highly recommend it! Nono & Kahena were our captains/tour guides. They were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, funny, kind, & took safety seriously. We learned a lot & saw a lot! Thankfully, the weather & waves were great that day so we were able to also go snorkeling & go into the cave. The entire trip was amazing and the scenery breathtaking. I am extremely thankful for the trip & will definitely be using them again when I have out of state visitors. Mahalo Captain J's!

Captain Max was incredible--his sense of humor kept us laughing even as the rain and mist rolled in. The two women on the crew (I wish I could remember their names) were fantastic, making sure everyone was comfortable and answering all our questions with a smile. The playlist on board was spot on, setting the perfect vibe. I wish I could find it on Spotify! Despite the weather, the views were breathtaking, and getting a little drenched just added to the adventure. The food was delicious, especially the smoked pork, salad, and fresh fruit, and my husband loved the mai tais. Even without the sunset, the whole experience was magical. After chatting with other travelers, I'm convinced we had one of the best tours available. especially after talking to a couple at our hotel pool who had paid more than we did and only got snacks limited alcohol. I can't recommend Holo Holo Charters enough, and I'm already looking forward to trying their breakfast or snorkel cruise next time. If you're looking for an amazing adventure, this is it!

Price was $250 per person and we booked a couple days before the tour date. (we went at the end of March - the weather was fantastic and not too hot, also not raining). Although it was pricey, I felt like it was worth the experience and highly recommend anyone do a tour, even if it's not with this company. We got back to shore around 7-7:30pm, so total time was 5 hours ish. Pros: - the Na Pali coast is BEAUTIFUL - the views were truly a once in a life time experience for me and I saw the fullest rainbow I've ever seen - The tour guide was super informative, we learned a lot about whales, and they also taught us a lot about certain mountains and waterfalls that we passed on the Na Pali Coast (like where Kauai kings were buried). - We stopped to watch whales multiple times and it was really cool! - The 3 staff working on board the ship were extremely helpful in answering questions, providing drinks, and instructing people from a safety perspective - Safety - I felt very well taken care of the whole time. It's a barefoot cruise but people can choose to keep their shoes on if they want. They provided bags for people feeling nauseous and gave good advice when people were feeling seasick. - Food provided - it's not fine dining or anything (chicken teriyaki, salad, etc) but it does beat having to pack your own food or go hungry around dinner time. Also unlimited alcohol or nonalcoholic drinks. - The staff helped us take photos and there's a lot of great photo opportunities at the coast - Champagne toast at sunset, which was beautiful to watch out on the water - bathrooms available on board - My husband didn't feel like eating on board due to the motion sickness so they were kind enough to pack a to-go box for us! - Parking was easy and the meet up location was easy to find - we stood outside for most of the ride since it felt better than sitting inside, so we did get a bunch of sea-spray and got super wet from the 10 ft swells, but it felt really fun! Cons: - I think they need to put a huge disclaimer with statistics or something to show people how common it is for people to get seasick and vomit. I think maybe 5 people from our whole boat got really sick and either fell or vomited during the trip (can feel a little weird enjoying the beautiful view while someone smells like vomit next to you lol). They do tell you at the beginning that you can walk away and get a full refund after hearing the captain briefing during the meet up starting spot, but I don't think they really emphasize just how many people get sick. I personally felt fine but I felt really bad for people who had to gut through the five hour round trip feeling terrible. bring Dramamine!! This was definitely a highlight of my first time in Kauai, I wouldn't necessarily do it more than once due to the price, but it was a fantastic experience for the views!

They were organized, professional, and genuinely seemed to love what they do. We traveled the morning of July 9th (for credit to our crew). Every crew member was kind, upbeat, and made you feel like they were truly happy you were there. Our captain was fantastic--he was fun, knowledgeable, and full of interesting information about the Nā Pali Coast. We never felt rushed, and they even stopped so everyone could take photos of the breathtaking scenery. We traveled with our 15-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter, and both had an amazing time. There were also several younger children on board, and the crew was wonderful with them as well. The boat was clean, spacious, and easy to move around, which made the trip comfortable for everyone. The food was delicious, and the entire day exceeded our expectations. As if the stunning coastline wasn't enough, we were lucky enough to see two different pods of dolphins swimming alongside the boat--an unforgettable experience! The biggest compliment I can give? I chose makana charters because of how detailed they were in their information as different tours tour the coast in different areas. With this tour, included lunch and snorkeling. What I didn't want was a fancy lunch because what I'm really there for is to see the Na Pali Coast and everything else was just an extra for me. The lunch was very simple which I like especially because it can get very nauseous. I wanted to do the snorkeling part, but I also wanted my husband to do it, but he's not a confident swimmer so I stayed with him and watched people snorkel which was totally fine. We did the early morning tour and it was beautiful! The weather was perfect! Our tour guides went around us as we were enjoying the way to the coast and asked us where we were from. They also showed us the forbidden island and told us some history of the island and how certain areas locals would camp but a permit would be needed. They also tried to get into caves as deep as they can go and also showed us where Mary J Blige recorded her music video for everything. We also saw some dolphins going and come back from the coast! Some positives about this tour includes: free parking by their main stop, an emcee that was quite hilarious, a boat captain that made the boat ride at 15 knots super fun, and some history lessons along with the tour. So what was wrong? The area where we were snorkeling was quite bland. We only saw a few fish and didnt see a turtle until after we all got on the boat. After only about 30 min of snorkeling around I was bored (they give you an hour). At the beginning of the tour we were told that if you feel sick at anytime, to let them know and they'll have some remedies. Well...when I came back on the boat after snorkeling, I started feeling woozy. It was mainly because the boat was anchored and started swaying. I did take Dramamine an hour before the trip so that helped a little. I told one of the crew members how I was feeling and her suggestion was, "I would stand in the back so noone will see you get sick. Also, I wouldn't go in the bathroom because the enclosed space will make you feel worse." Not the remedies I was expecting. haha. I did not take her advice. Instead I stayed standing in the front and looked at the horizon as everyone else was enjoying their sandwiches and chips. The captain, at least, gave me a little piece of mind by telling me he'll have us back on shore in 50 minutes. So I stood there, feeling like I was on a speed boat, jumping with every big wave, wind blowing my hair and salty water on my face. Surprisingly, I felt better after that ride back. But I felt a whole lot better being on land.

Pictures truly don't do it justice. My wife and I loved exploring the sea caves, seeing the waterfalls up close, and taking in the breathtaking scenery. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Captain Ren and crew member Kelly were absolutely fantastic. They went out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable, getting great photos, and enjoying every minute of the ride. My wife and I have talked several times since the tour about what an incredible job Ren did navigating the inflatable raft through the caves and along the coastline. Her skill and confidence made the experience even more exciting while still making us feel safe. If we ever make it back to Kauaʻi, this tour will be at the top of our list. We would book it again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure!

We saw whales, dolphins, insane coastline views, jumped off the raft, and rode waves in a way that had us screaming and laughing the whole time The captain (I'm SO mad I forgot his name... maybe Andy? ) handled that zodiac raft like a pro. Seriously unreal. And Steve was amazing too -- at one point he said he barely even needed to play music because we were all just vibing, talking, and having such a good time together. If you love adventure, adrenaline, ocean views, and experiences that feel unforgettable... this is IT. Loved loved loved every second

DRAMAMINE, y'all…read more You're choosing to do the Na'Pali coast from the North Shore, which means smaller boats, and choppier waves. I took one Dramamine, the night before. Then another, an hour before our departure. AND THE BOAT RIDE WAS GREAT. I was all smiles and adventure and breathing -in the ocean air and wind! Unlike, a few folks, who were NOT doing so well. (One or two barfed over the side, but thankfully I didn't notice. Know how your body handles boats and waves. Don't do tours like this, without proper prep. It will NOT be fun if you underestimate it.) Check-In staff was super friendly, and personal. They remembered me from my original email. Sweet. Parking was easy. Shuttles team was super friendly. The strangers we rode with, all turned out to be cool. 2 boats go out (mini-catamarans, with cover from the sun). They expertly traverse the waves, and cliffs, and the caves, giving you some amazing first-hand visuals and photos. But yeah, that boat will be a rockin', during those up-close cave moments. Spoiler: You probably won't see whales, unless you're there before May. But we DID see a cute pod of Dolphins, who cozy'd up to our boat for a while. Our boat had Casey and Spencer. They were wise beyond their years, in all things Kauai. Funny and friendly. Spencer navigated the heck out of those waves, while Casey handled the nauseous passengers with MOTHERLY CARE. Spencer was 50/50 on allowing us to snorkel, based on conditions and a previous scare, a few weeks prior. But he ultimately made the call to GET IN THE WATER. He wisely kept us on a leash (not literally), whistling at swimmers when they got too close to a reef (with waves that could wash you onto the reef). It was fun and chill. Saw a HUGE, MASSIVE KING DADDY SEA TURTLE. He did not enjoy us as much as we enjoyed him and he bounced. Followed by a JR. Turtle, who stuck around a bit longer. Tons of fish. Spencer & Casey gave us good food and hike recommendations, and everyone treated us like friends / family. Highly recommend this team if you're going out. And you already know I highly recommend some Dramamine.

The tour itself was both breathtakingly beautiful and informative, with lots of great history and a thorough knowledge of the coast's features. We were able to get in close to the cliffs and even go into a couple of sea caves. On the way back -- a very bouncy and splashy affair in the best way for those of us who were adventurous enough to sit in the bow -- we stopped at Tunnels Beach to snorkel the outer reef, which was full of tropical fish and turtles. The tour included lunch and refreshments as well. Overall a great way to spend an afternoon -- definitely a 5-star experience. A word to the wise-- the northwest corner of Kaua'i is often rainy and can get a bit cold when the wind is up, so not a bad idea to bring something extra to throw on after you finish the snorkel and are heading back to port.

We took their Nā Pali Coast Tour and Snorkel Excursion, and it was hands down the best excursion I've ever been on. Captain Greg was an exceptionally skilled captain who made us feel safe and confident throughout the trip. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared fascinating information about Hawaiian culture, the geology of the Nā Pali Coast, the marine life, and so much more. His passion for Hawaii was evident and made the experience even more meaningful. Captain Greg went above and beyond to make sure everyone had an unforgettable experience. He made a special effort to locate a pod of spinner dolphins and expertly positioned the boat so every passenger had an amazing view. It was truly incredible to watch them in their natural habitat. The Nā Pali Coast itself is breathtaking beyond words. Towering emerald-green mountains, cascading waterfalls, crystal-clear turquoise water, and dramatic sea cliffs create scenery that simply has to be seen to be believed. The entire crew was friendly, professional, attentive, and highly skilled. From start to finish, everything was well organized, and they made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. This tour exceeded every expectation I had. If you're visiting Kauai, this is an absolute must-do. It was truly the highlight of our trip and the best excursion I've ever experienced.
