Two days into a week long vacation, I came down with either the worst head cold ever, or COVID. My throat felt like I was swallowing shards of broken glass. Desperate, I went to Kauai Urgent Care. Within 15 minutes I was taken in to see Dr. David Horn. I told him my wife and I were celebrating our recent retirement and he said "don't worry, we're gonna get you back on your feet." He listened intently as I described my symptoms. He order a flu and COVID test both of which came back negative. He diagnosed me as having an acute sinus infection and prescribed a course of antibiotics along with a steroid nasal spray to reduce inflammation. I was on my way to the pharmacy in less than an hour. By the next day, I was feeling significantly better and resumed light activities and after 48 hours felt my old self. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Horn and the clinic. They saved my vacation. read more

After arriving to the island I realized I needed attention and an antibiotic for a UTI. I chose the facility at Pahe'e Street. They were very busy, however checked me in to see Dr. Owen Prentice. Don't remember the nurses name but also wonderful! Prescribed antibiotic to treat and went onto vacation mode! Later in the week Dr. Prentice telephoned me saying in review that they noticed a bacteria that required a different antibiotic.. Asked how I was doing? So grateful. I'm so impressed by everyone I encountered at my very short visit to this business today. I had an abscess on my back and from the moment I entered, put on a mask (free) as there were a few people coughing, I was treated with an amazing amount of kindness, professionalism, expertise, and humanity. I was seen in less than 5 minutes by a check-in clerk. My information was already there so I only had to show my ID, sign a form for insurance and I had barely sat down before the nurse called for me for BP, weight, etc. I was shown to a room in less than 10 minutes after a personable consultation and quick assessment of my condition. Everything was explained, questions answered, procedure explained. I met Dr. Prentiss, a personable and knowledgeable doctor who made me feel very comfortable, despite my abscess, as I've never had one. He was so compassionate and concerned with the numbing process, asking many times if it was too painful. I was given explicit directions, prescriptions, additional bandages. The treatment was explained at every turn. I was out the door in under an hour, feeling very well treated. Great job team. read more

Parking is terrible. They get your cellphone number and call you when there ready waited for about an hour or so. Phones just do not work well compared to using a personal home wifi system, and my phone couldn't receive the call, they didn't even come out to call my name just pure laziness. read more

I got stung by a bee while vacationing from the mainland. I was also having an allergic reaction on my arms possibly from the sun screen I was using. I ended up requiring a corticosteroid injection with medications. Dr. Owen and his staff were friendly and professional. Great experience. I went there for an infected cat bite on my hand that was pretty bad. No wait. The clinic is attractive and spotlessly clean. They accepted my Medicare insurance plan and their red tape is minimal. The staff were extremely nice and professional. I saw Dr. Schermer who was also very pleasant and professional. He was reassuring while still letting me know that a can bite can be a serious problem. He has clearly treated many cat bites! He ordered antibiotics and two days later the bite is healing up nicely. Kauai Urgent Care is hands down the best Urgent Care facility I've been to. There is free parking in front and a lot of spots to choose from. Front desk is currently is in the front of the building due to COVID. They will screen you while they take down your info. I still am in the process of setting up my PCP on Kauai so I've gone to this Urgent Care a few times. They were so quick and helpful to get me in and out. I really appreciated how nice all of the front desk workers, nurses and doctors have been there. They have all been very understanding and easy to speak with. For how sick I was, it was so great getting into the appointment so quickly. I will definitely be back after the great experiences I've had here. read more

I'm not particularly religious but, thank God Urgent Care was open and equipped to handle my medical emergency. Nothing worse than finding yourself in unexpected, unexplained agony on vacation with fabulous activities planned in addition to just this beautiful island and lovely people. No wait. Super friendly staff. Of course I had my health insurance card, ID, and credit card at the ready for just such a contingency. Don't make it impossible for staff be ready to be a good patient so they can be a great medical provider. Medical tech was amazing. I was in pain and frightened. My blood pressure was off the charts. I'm sick... tests were quickly taken and read. Doctor explained his diagnosis prescribed an antibiotic assuring me I'd be back in Aloha full speed ahead in a day or so. He reminded me to see my primary care taker when back on the mainland. Kind, smiles, calm, quick. Prescriptions sent down the block to Longs. BAM! Happily on the mend. Thanks. I went to have my cut finger looked at to see if I needed stitches. Check in went smoothly, not a long wait, and the staff is very kind and professional. The doctor I saw is really good, and I could tell she was well trained. She did a thorough examination of my finger, which included checking for nerve damage and had me get an x-ray to check for a fracture. I'm happy to report that I have no nerve damage, no fracture, and I didn't need stitches. All in all a very positive experience. read more

I went in with a chest cold and raging sinus infection. Doctor spent all of 45 seconds with me. He took my word for it regarding my sinus infection but completely shut me down when I said I had a chest cold too. He listened to my lungs for a few seconds and denied I had any sort of problem there. I'm still coughing up thick green mucous. I could go back but why? I was there today with inner ear pain, chest pain, persistent cough, fatigue and sinus pain super imposed on a history of multiple myeloma with a nosocomial transmission of C. difficile three years ago at Hoag hospital. It was a very busy day so I signed in and departed for an hour rather than wait in the petri dish waiting area. I called it a petri dish not because it is unsanitary, but because it was packed and I am immune compromised. This team is terrific. When I returned they were ready. They are caring, compassionate and took the time to communicate with my oncologist and infectious disease doctors back in California. We created a plan that hopefully will calm this down over the next two days. If I resided here, I would want the physician who treated me to-be my personal care physician. read more

Their checkin process is orderly--you walk in, register, get an estimate of your wait time, and run errands until they call you to return for your visit. From beginning to end, all the staff, nurses, and doctor I interacted with were incredibly helpful, compassionate, knowledgeable, and friendly. I came in thinking I had an ear infection from swimming the day before. I was taken to a room almost immediately and was told the doctor would be in within 30 minutes. She was there in less than 10, diagnosed me with having too much ear wax (gross, I know), and had a nurse flush it out with water. She then prescribed a mild antibiotic to take just in case, after we had an extensive discussion on how I probably wouldn't need them and they're over prescribed. I was back and enjoying my vacation within an hour. I'm sure the bill won't be cheap when it comes in, but it was worth it for the care and attention I was given. read more

One of the worst places I've ever been for a medical facility. I'm on vacation from Oahu and was told by Kaiser that I could go to this clinic for a evaluation. The rudest person at the clinic keeps telling me that Kaiser is closed and this isn't a Kaiser clinic. I keep telling her I know that. Fantastic service. My boyfriend gashed his knee on the reef and needed 7 stitches. The facility is clean. The staff is welcoming. Check in was quick and straight forward. Our intake nurse was warm and thoughtful. The doctor calmed our nerves, talked us through the process and did a great job with the stitches. They sent us home with a baggie of spare bandages. You hope you don't need an urgent care when you're on vacation, but I found myself needing this place when I fell and lacerated the skin next to my eye one morning. I verified with Kaiser that this facility is affiliated with my health plan. When I checked in there were two people ahead of me. I was called back within 20 minutes. All in all I was there for a total of 2 hours. I wish I could remember the names of everyone I saw, but shout out to Dr. Schermer, who did a great job of stitching me up and answered all of my questions.
