Shopping in Hilo Town, Hawaii…read more.. I remember the name of this store... I was here decades ago when I was active with the Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce). We would have meetings on the Big Island every so often. After our gatherings, we'd roam around the town! This store still has amusing gifts, practical items, and cute stuff! It has postcards, jewelry, t-shirts, plushies, baby items, children's toys, Aloha shirts, soaps, lotions, books, Hello Kitty merchandise, tote bags, greeting cards, and more! Service is very friendly! The nice lady at the cash register asked me about my Shohei Ohtani shirt... LOL! Note: this store didn't have air conditioning... shucks! However, there's free street parking all around the area!

All of her designs are based on things from the āina such as kalo, kupukupu, lauae, liko, ōhia lehua, and more. She primarily prints women's clothing and accessories (v-neck shirts, tank tops, scarves, etc), but she also does a limited stock of men's clothing as well. Last year I provided Aunty Zennie with a collared black shirt and requested a liko print, and I was super stoked with how it came out. Every time I wear the shirt, I get lots of compliments, and I tell people it's one of a kind! She recently did a copper colored print of kalo on a dark gray shirt for me, and I'm stoked to wear it once the stay-at-home order is lifted. Aunty Zennie mostly does small craft fairs, but she also posts her stock to Instagram and Facebook and can be contacted on those platforms for orders. She is always smiling when I see her, and she has such a calm, sweet nature that immediately makes you feel comfortable asking questions. When I come in with a project, Bernie doesn't just point me in a direction - she actually brainstorms with me, offers suggestions, and helps me think through what would be most helpful. Even when I change my mind (more than once ), she never makes me feel rushed or annoying. Her patience is something I truly appreciate. I always look for Bernie when I come in because I know she is willing to help and will do so with kindness every single time. Honestly, if it weren't for her, I would probably just go to Walmart - but Bernie is the reason I keep coming back here instead. A lot of customer service these days feels rushed or impersonal, but Bernie is different. She consistently takes the time to be thoughtful, speaks kindly, and makes the experience enjoyable. The place was very clean and really easy to find coming from the airport. I ended up coming here twice and both times I bought gummies.
