The barista, or kavatender, did a really thorough job of explaining the effects/benefits of this dried root made into a cold tea from the South Pacific. I ordered a double rare and felt the anxiety relief and relaxation immediately. I work from home and come in to work. The owner and staff are welcoming and friendly. The crowd of regulars are a rag tag group of misfit nerds who are fun to chat with about their special interests. They regularly host fun events like trivia, bingo, and game night. Overall, Kava Kasa has cultivated a welcoming and safe space for people who are looking for a hang out that's not a bar. While kava can be pricey, so can daily lattes or night out at a bar. Tried Kava for the first time last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised! I didn't really know what to expect in terms of affects from the tea, but it was mild and enjoyable. The workers were very nice, and the girl who helped us order was fantastic. She explained everything really well and was patient while we made our decision. I got the Mango smoothie with a single shot, and my boyfriend got a single shot premium kava tea with coconut and honey. Both were very good, I'm a big smoothie person and this was a great smoothie and dimmed down the taste of the Kava. The tea was much more earthy and strong tasting, but still very good. I used to be a regular here. Oh boy, where to begin. It's no secret, I've been to hell and back with addiction to pills and alcohol. When I first attempted to get clean in Florida, I started patronizing the local lava bar scene in West Palm Beach. There are many FINE and HONEST kava bars, with strong grog and a fun and inviting atmosphere. So, naturally, When I first moved here, I thought I'd discovered paradise. But, after a long time of practically paying the owners rent and filling the employees' gas tanks is not enough. I've spent THOUSANDS here, because the weakest menu item is 6 dollars. And their kava is the weakest I've ever had. Their "rare" (12 dollars for a single drink, btw) is supposed to be their strongest, but it's snake oil here. Wow. Also, they sell kratom but purposely don't advertise it anywhere (wink wink, nudge nudge). A single drink of their kratom contains at least 7 grams of kratom (owner proudly told me this) which is WAYYYY too much for anyone let alone some poor soul who thinks they've found a safe and natural way to relax, because kratom acts as mu-delta opioid receptor agonist, and is therefore highly addictive (they will deny this to high hell but it's all bull.) I've seen people come in, ask about kratom and get lied to by staff about how "safe" and "non addictive" only to get hooked and start spending all of their time and money on this place. I actually have a friend that got so addicted to kratom from this place that he actually went completely bankrupt, and ended up suicidal and in rehab. Months later I spotted him, drinking kratom at Kava Kasa. What a shame. The owner who comes across as a kind and compassionate man who was "saved by kava" according to his website but neglects to mention he has a 200 dollar a day kratom habit. He can afford it, of course, because this pitiful place is a gold mine. The bartenders are mean, and cruelly judgmental. They claim they "help addicts," but tell them you've struggled with substance abuse, you're automatically persona non grata. Atmosphere is cold, like you're invisible in a room full of hipsters. Really weird. Really depressing, dirty (did not follow Covid guidelines AT ALL. Never closed, never required masks, got knows how that might have gotten someone really sick. I never complain (on here at least) and this isn't fun, but I really, really want to share my experience with this place so that someone else won't have to. read more

Well..... The nice lady described Kava as tasting "earthy". I think it tastes like dirt. As far as the benefits, well.... nothing worse will happen to you that day. Looking it up, it comes with a risk of liver damage. The coffee is just so so. It has a nice decor. I will not be back, I suggest any coffee house instead. read more

We stumbled on this gem of a tea house during a rare date night! & Super happy that we did! My hubs ordered the peanut butter kava (rare/single), while I ordered the chai kava (rare/single). Their "rare" is a mix of the their "everyday" & "premium" blends. I really enjoyed the chai kava, earthy bold flavor w/hints of chai and coconut. The only downside was the loose chai leaves in my kava, Ive never had loose tea leaves floating in my drink. But once filtered out, my drink was divine! The positive reviews here must speak to the unique subculture of kava. During the two hours that I was here, I eavesdropped on conversations primarily about kava- first time experiencing it, the different strains, etc. Creepy of me perhaps, but they were hard to ignore. People seem to here for the "experience of kava"- not to socialize, get work done, or enjoy a tasty beverage. Speaking of taste, I found it almost unbearable- and I like earthy drinks. It was the bitterness, coupled with the unpleasant cold (especially on a dreary, wet day) that make it hard to choke down. They'll give you tips on things you can do to not taste it, but overall, $6 for the simplest drink seemed a steep price to pay for a disgusting drink that seemed to offer similar relaxing effects as many other things. The atmosphere is confusing too- doesn't really lend itself to cozy socializing or getting work done. Mural is super cheesy, lighting and furniture are cold and unwelcoming, fake tiki bar is just... odd. I'm excited GR has some different offerings other than hipster coffee joints. This just isn't my cup of tea. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. My friends and I started going here because we're in recovery and don't drink, but still like to go out and have fun. Kava Kasa provides the perfect environment. They have live music every now and then and a variety of board games. The seating is comfy as well, ranging from a bar style to couches. If you have not tried Kava, I would absolutely encouraged you to do so. It truly helps relax the mind and body. The owner is amazing as well and has always let us bring our dogs in when we have them. So I'm an idiot and walked I here with my husband and 16 year old step daughter for a "pick me up", thinking he and I had ordered coffees ( mine straight up/every day shot and his an iced coffee), and my 16 year old step daughter was getting a mango smoothie. It was not a smoothie and coffee that we ordered and we knew this immediately when we took our first sip and our tongue and lips went numb. Turns out it's Kava, a root that has medicinal antiseptic properties that help with pain, anxiety, mental clarity, and can be a sleep aid. It is legal to sell, and I can now say from experience, it does not create a high, just a chilled out vibe and maybe less body pains. Once we realized this and googled exactly what we had all drank, we were all okay with this, but it would've been helpful if the staff explained things more or if there was additional signage. My step daughter mango smoothie was legit delicious and you could hardly taste the kava in it. That said, I'm not sure if it was because she was 16, it was her first time with Kava or if the mango smoothie just has more Kava in it, but she complained of not feeling her face after half of it, so we told her to stop drinking it. My husband iced coffee was bland as ice coffees go but it helped with the Kava taste. He finished his and took a nap at home. My "every day" single shot with no cream and no sugar was horrific to taste and I would not recommend it at all unless you like Kava already. I doctored mine up at home with a lot of milk, ice coffee and vanilla extract and it was actually pretty good. I drank all of mine that way and felt relaxed but still productive making dinner at home. I'm giving this place 3 stars because the smoothie was legit good (minus making my daughters face numb). But I wish they would've had additional signage about the product or explained things more. I'm also not sure if selling a smoothie to someone under 18, is 100% a good idea. Not your average tea shop... they sell Kava which comes from a root of a plant. It almost makes you feel like you had a nice glass of red wine without the drunk feeling. It's an excellent alternative for anxiety and depression relief without the addictive properties. Plus no hangover!! The owners are very helpful and friendly.
