    Ube matcha and chair latte
    Aaryn J.

When I'm meeting a friend for coffee, Scorpion Hearts is always one of my first picks. It has lots of seating, local made goods to shop, and great coffee. I went with the ube matcha this time after a barista recommended it, so good! They also have a Coquito latte right now which is similar to horchata. You can't go wrong here!

Some of the best lattes in town. I love how they change their menu. Only downside is how expensive they are. About $9 for a seasonal one size latte.

Scorpion Hearts Club has some of the best coffee in town! The "Killer queen" is my go to order there! It has sweet and condesed milk and is so delicious! The First dates and breakups" is a close second but that one may be a seasonal drink. The atmosphere is so welcoming and inclusive. I will say it is in more of a historic building but I think that's part of the charm of it!

I came here today with a friend and we were very excited when we walked in. The place has a very old feel, but like a good old. It was also decorated very on theme with the whole vibe they were going for. We were trying to decide what we wanted for a little and the barista was so kind as he waited! I ordered a Sweetened Condensed Milk Latte and my friend got their Campfire Latte in their seasonal menu -- both hot, both delicious! I would have preferred mine to be less sweet but I totally could have asked for that, still delicious nonetheless! Also got a really cute sticker and sat next to a record player. All wins in my book!

I came here to work on some things. It has a lot of seating options that are circle tables, long tables, corner chairs, corner tables and a back room for more low traffic quiet work. It is a very cozy spot. It's giving book store, unsure what the price points of the books on display are or if they're open to be browsed. The baristas are very nice. It is old and creaky but that's also part of the charm. I got a matcha latte and unfortunately it was very basic. The only positive was that it was not overly sweetened. The establishment is supposedly queer owned and it's def giving safe space friend of Dorothy vibes.

Cool vibes, plenty of seating. Really good coffee and a place to chill. Live the Madonna photo!

    Pour Over Coffee

I popped by Scorpion Hearts Club this morning to do a little work, and I'm so glad I did. This is one of the chillest spots I've been to in Grand Rapids. The chai latte was perfect -- not too sweet and a dash of cinnamon on top. The blueberry muffin was moist and had no shortage of berries. My partner ordered pour over coffee and a chai scone. He said the coffee was great! There's no picture of the scone because it was consumed in a minute flat. It was just that delicious. The vibes here are immaculate. The playlist was relaxing. There were nine gazillion houseplants and an abundance of seating. Wifi was speedy. Staff was friendly. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular.

The Mariah aka Peppermint mocha with oatmilk

Been here several times over the years- What can I say other than good things. Location is cozy, baristas are always kind, and the drinks are always great! My sister loves their boba teas, I like their matcha lattes! And during the holidays- I loved the Mariah drink which was a very good peppermint mocha!

    Cookie Butter Latte (seasonal)

It's very cute inside! It took a bit for someone to come to the front to get service. Drink was fine- It is meant to be hot so that's on me!

    Pumpkin spice latte
    Devin C.

The pumpkin spice latte was a bit disappointing. The coffee in it was nice and smooth but the pumpkin spice blend they used tasted like it had some weird ratios going on. It wasn't bad it's just that I don't think I would be able to tell that it was pumpkin spice without knowing beforehand. That being said I bet their other drinks are pretty good so I'll probably come back here again (especially if they have donuts again). The staff were really kind so that's always great to see! I wish the interior wasn't so small, it's really not a good place to sit down and have a drink in. Lastly, the prices are pretty absurd. I think my 8oz drink that had one shot of espresso cost about $7.50 without tip.

The Sparrows is a popular coffee shop along Wealthy Street SE. Even though several other coffee shops like Squibb are nearby, Sparrows has been around for awhile. Park along the street and walk into the little shop. Order up front from their large coffee list. I ordered a latte with sweetened condensed milk (winning). Although creamy, I needed to put a few packets of sugar in it to make it a tad sweet. The space is open with lots of tables, window seating and a back room with a couch. Wifi is strong, but outlets are sparse making it a complicated place to work from all day. Staff is friendly.

Loved this place! Staff was friendly, my coffee was great. It's very cozy inside, and I love that they have local art for sale! They even have vinyl from a local vinyl "dealer" (lol) for sale! I was meeting up with someone, but it'd be a great place to come and do some homework/work, or even to read a good book! There was a decent amount of people talking but the noise level was very reasonable (especially considering there's a milk steamer going all the time). I can't wait to come back and try different drinks! I got the Mariah (a peppermint mocha) this time, and it was great!

It is noisy in there with everyone talking, but I dont think its too bad if you want to study there. They do have a stage where they have bands perform, they also have trivia nights. I hope to check out one of the trivia nights. There is a decent size parking lot in the back. This parking lot was filled on a Tuesday night, so its definitely a spot to go and check out. Sometimes you just need a place to escape the hotel room, crack open the laptop, and get some work…read moredone. That's exactly what brought me to Midnight Express Cafe in Grand Rapids. Apparently this is a favorite among the local college crowd, and I can see why. The space is big, bright, and inviting. There were groups of friends playing card games, plenty of people working on laptops, and an atmosphere that somehow felt both fun and relaxing. The vibe check? Passed with flying colors. It wasn't perfect, though. If you're planning on working for a few hours, be prepared to hunt for actual working power outlets because they're surprisingly scarce. My chai latte also left a lot to be desired. It wasn't bad, just forgettable. Then came the açaí bowl. Organic açaí blended with blueberries, mango, blue agave, and coconut milk, then topped with granola, coconut flakes, chocolate chips, honey, strawberries, blueberries, and peanut butter. Oh... my... goodness. I was not prepared for what arrived at the table. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. The fruit was vibrant, the granola had amazing texture, and every bite felt like the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and refreshing. It wasn't just delicious--it was one of those dishes that makes you stop what you're doing because your full attention suddenly belongs to the food. Here's what makes that statement carry some weight: I live in an area of South Florida surrounded by a huge Brazilian community. I have no fewer than six dedicated açaí shops within eight minutes of my house. I've had a lot of açaí bowls over the years. Without question, Midnight Express Cafe serves the best açaí bowl I've ever had. I never expected to find my favorite açaí bowl in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but here we are. Sometimes the biggest surprises happen in the places you least expect them.

I've been going since late 2022/early 2023, back when they were just a vintage shop (with a cute cat) at their old spot further down Division. I first came across them at a market and bought a shirt (still probably my favorite shirt in my collection) but at the time they were pretty under the radar, so I forgot the name. Almost a year later, an old friend complimented that same shirt, which led to me telling the whole story. I was like, "all I remember is they sold spoon rings," and said friend immediately goes, "sounds like Otono on Division." Ofc I went there that weekend, and sure enough, that was them. Been a fan ever since. At this point, a good chunk of my wardrobe is from them. It's been really cool seeing how much they've grown and evolved, especially with the addition of the café. I think it's such a hit and fits their vibe perfectly. The owners are also super personable and the staff are always kind. I added a few pics from past visits, but I definitely recommend checking them out.
