Scorpion Hearts Club is a great place for community, drinks, and finding something to do! They host so many great local organizations and even allow me to host my community bake club there monthly! There are constantly free events to promote the space as a third space with no pressure to have to buy anything; however, the drinks and local art are well worth it! The staff have been very kind and helpful and are great to talk to. I love what they do as a business and how they continuously support their community. This is my go-to coffee spot in Grand Rapids! It has plenty of seating options both inside and outside and the vibes are ALWAYS good. They don't play music way too loud like so many joints do and the employees are always pleasant. They sell a lot of local art and there is always something unique and fun to check-out. I almost always get one of their seasonal drinks because they are all amazing, but if I don't I get the Killer Queen. I ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk on a hot summer day. A few people were sitting and working inside, and they sell stickers and some other merch as well. They also sell a small selection of baked goods. I really enjoyed my matcha; a little more milk than I'd typically like because it overpowered the matcha flavor, but still refreshing. I came here today with a friend and we were very excited when we walked in. The place has a very old feel, but like a good old. It was also decorated very on theme with the whole vibe they were going for. We were trying to decide what we wanted for a little and the barista was so kind as he waited! I ordered a Sweetened Condensed Milk Latte and my friend got their Campfire Latte in their seasonal menu -- both hot, both delicious! i can't believe that i haven't reviewed scorpion hearts club yet. SHC is part of our friday morning date rotation. they have the best tea latte in town. i love the red vanilla tea(which is un-caffeinated), with oat milk, and cardamom syrup. they also have fun seasonal drinks that we love to check out. there are lots of cool locally made items to buy like cards, jewelry, candles, etc. they also have some good vegan chocolates and other treats. i enjoy the table/chair set up as well. it's a space with plenty of room and good vibes. read more

I came here to work on some things. It has a lot of seating options that are circle tables, long tables, corner chairs, corner tables and a back room for more low traffic quiet work. It is a very cozy spot. It's giving book store, unsure what the price points of the books on display are or if they're open to be browsed. The baristas are very nice. It is old and creaky but that's also part of the charm. I got a matcha latte and unfortunately it was very basic. The only positive was that it was not overly sweetened. I popped by Scorpion Hearts Club this morning to do a little work, and I'm so glad I did. This is one of the chillest spots I've been to in Grand Rapids. The chai latte was perfect -- not too sweet and a dash of cinnamon on top. The blueberry muffin was moist and had no shortage of berries. My partner ordered pour over coffee and a chai scone. He said the coffee was great! There's no picture of the scone because it was consumed in a minute flat. It was just that delicious. The vibes here are immaculate. The playlist was relaxing. There were nine gazillion houseplants and an abundance of seating. Wifi was speedy. Staff was friendly. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular. read more

The pumpkin spice latte was a bit disappointing. The coffee in it was nice and smooth but the pumpkin spice blend they used tasted like it had some weird ratios going on. It wasn't bad it's just that I don't think I would be able to tell that it was pumpkin spice without knowing beforehand. That being said I bet their other drinks are pretty good so I'll probably come back here again (especially if they have donuts again). The staff were really kind so that's always great to see! I wish the interior wasn't so small, it's really not a good place to sit down and have a drink in. Lastly, the prices are pretty absurd. Park along the street and walk into the little shop. Order up front from their large coffee list. I ordered a latte with sweetened condensed milk (winning). Although creamy, I needed to put a few packets of sugar in it to make it a tad sweet. The space is open with lots of tables, window seating and a back room with a couch. They changed the name from Sparrows to Scorpion Heart, I'm not sure why. Anyhow, this is a nice little coffee shop with a hipster vibe. The vibe is cozy to do some work, read, or study. The music is chill and set at a good volume. In addition to being a coffee shop, they also sell trinkets like cards, mugs, candles, accessories, and vinyl records. They have various specialty lattes. Loved this place! Staff was friendly, my coffee was great. It's very cozy inside, and I love that they have local art for sale! They even have vinyl from a local vinyl "dealer" (lol) for sale! The brew is, hmmm, let's say "bright" - although "acidic" might be a better term. How one gets Bostic from Colombian is beyond me. I checked in with the barista letting them know I placed a online order ahead, they told me it would be out soon. They put out a coffee on the counter with no name/ticket so I assumed it wasn't mine because I just told them what I have and my name. I personally have never been to a poetry night before so I was going into Sparrows with an open mind. I arrived and so many young girls and boys read their wonderful poetry. I was astonished by how impressive and imaginative their poetry was.. My friends and I were getting a little bit hungry so we stopped by Uncle Cheetahs nearby.. (I'll make a review about Uncle Cheetahs soon) When we got back, I thought it might be a good idea to order something. So I got the "Anne With an E".. A matcha tea latte with honey! The quality of the tea was excellent.. I was expecting the latte to be pretty sweet, but the contrary happened! It had a hint of sweetness from the honey, but what I loved is that it did not overpower the wonderful and deep flavor of the matcha. And the price itself was just right.. Only $5.50! Overall, it was an excellent experience! I loved the poetry night as well as the wide selection of drinks that they provided. My sister brought my brother and I to The Sparrows this past snowy Saturday morning while we visited Grand Rapids from Chicago. We were able to find street parking for free about a block or two away, and once inside, we noticed a few open tables in the back. We also spotted a ton of plants and just an overall home-y vibe. It was very pleasant, especially on such a cold and snowy April morning. My brother snagged one of the tables while my sister and I ordered coffee and donuts for all of us. I was most excited to try the pretzel-topped chocolate cake donut. All three of our coffee orders were ready within a few minutes, and we sat down with our donuts and caffeine to catch up for a few minutes before my brother and I headed back to the Windy City. We each split the donuts, and while the pretzel donut was less crunchy than I'd hoped (it seemed like that pretzels just got soft from sitting out), the concept of sweet and salty was still very smart. I also enjoyed the bites of the sprinkle donut as well, and loved the frosting drizzle on their donuts the most! It worked really well with the chocolate cake part of the donut. If you're looking for a quick coffee to go, or a spot for a slow morning to work or read a book, definitely stop by The Sparrows for a comforting experience. We noticed at the counter that there's a Wifi password, too, so if you're planning on coming here to work, don't be discouraged when you don't see an open Wifi network! My travel companions and I had just finished an amazing lunch just down the street and decided that a shot of caffeine was an excellent idea before continuing on our way. There are several coffee shops on this street, but the Yelp reviews and photos for The Sparrows won us over...and we were not disappointed! The space is simultaneously cozy and airy, welcoming and stylish, open and intimate. Our barista was lovely and made us feel instantly at home. They answered a few of our questions about unique items on the menu (see the beet hot cocoa in my photo) with an ease and helpfulness that quite honestly you don't get at many high-end shops. I went with a traditional macchiato with plant milk (they have a nice selection of types, which I was grateful for), and snagged a back of that deliciously crazy-sounding beet cocoa for home. My crew found a seat and enjoyed a relaxing half-hour of tasty beverages and quiet contemplation while others around us chatted or worked. We were never rushed out or made to feel like we had overstayed our welcome. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town! read more

Spent a couple of days working here and had a grand ol' time! It's comfortable and spacious, they've got great fair-trade coffee, plenty o'tea, a super nice staff, and reliable wi-fi. Oh and they're open late. Which is a plus in my book when it comes to coffee shops. Yes, my kind of joint! The front is SO cute and, while it was too cold to park outside during my last visit, I am quite positive the outdoor seating would be delightful here in the warmer months. Hungry? It's cool. They've got you covered with a few bites including some baked goods from one of my GR faves Field and Fire. Need something to read while you enjoy a pastry and a latte?
