Y'all. I feel like a person again…read more My eyebrows were never destined for greatness before Heather. When I was 3, I was bit in the eye by a Dalmatian. As a result, I have slightly less tissue under my right eyebrow than my left. Combined with a roller skating accident that removed the top of my arch when I was 12, and my right eyebrow has always been sort of a rebel. It has frustrated aestheticians, make up artists, and brow threaders my entire life. If you look in the photos, I even marked where almost no eyebrow exists naturally. Heather fixed it all, and I didn't even feel it. After two sessions, I now leave the house without worrying about anything more than some eyebrow gel. Tweezing my eyebrows is 100x easier because I have a clear definition of what should be plucked. And the shape is so much more even. When I told Heather I wanted a bit stronger brow than average, she delivered it perfectly. The best part is no one can tell that I've had anything permanent done. When I mention it, they look confused, then closely look at my eyebrows in amazement. If you aren't familiar with microblading, it is semi-permanent strokes added into your natural brow to fill and correct shape and density. With Heather, I didn't feel a thing because she goes above and beyond to find topical products that work. And while the initial price tag might make you balk, it's the best deal you'll find in Austin and, IMO, the best person you'll find to do them. It really is an investment that pays off in time, confidence, and (if you used to churn through brow products), serious savings. I can't recommend the process or Heather enough. I was interested in microblading to fill some gaps in my eyebrows and create a more symmetrical shape. Before committing to an appointment, Jess went over the preparation, procedure, and aftercare in detail before my appointment so I knew exactly what would happen. Once booked, Jess asked for sample photos of brows that I liked as well as a few photos of my face, so we could talk through shaping options. I wanted to mostly stick to my natural brow shape and fill in some sections / lengthen the ends, so I sent over a few photos of myself with brows I liked in the past as a baseline in addition to inspiration pictures online. The appointment: The studio is a bit of a drive from north Austin but parking is ample and easy. The space is clean, bright, and welcoming. Jess made sure to send me a couple rounds of brow edits a day before so there were no surprises when she mapped out the brows on my face. Once they looked good to me, she started the numbing cream and then the microblading. The whole process took about two and a half hours and was relatively painless, no sensation at all until the last five minutes when the numbing cream wore off a little, but even then it just felt similar to threading. Jess was thorough with hygiene (I am a germaphobe so this was huge!!), using all new instruments and changing gloves whenever she needed to reach for something else. Jess checked in regularly after my session to check how the brows were healing and gave me tips for when they got a little itchy. It's been a month since my session and my brows are looking clean, full, and finally symmetrical! I couldn't love them more.

If this review were based on skill alone, she'd get five stars hands down. But for the part that makes me write an update and removes me from giving her 5 stars: Jamila cannot stop upselling. Every visit turns into a small negotiation. She'll pitch you every service and skin treatment under the sun even after you've politely declined, most times twice or three times before giving up. She doesn't take a hint, verbal or otherwise. She also tends to "forget" returning clients when it's time to charge. The first-time brow price is $15, and the upkeep price is $13. But if you don't remind her that you are a RETURNING CUSTOMER, she'll happily start from scratch on what you owe her. I shouldn't have to keep track of my own loyalty discount, but here we are. The many times I've visited, to pretend like she doesn't remember me is annoying. Get punch cards or SOMETHING so you'll stop doing this to customers. To be fair, she's not mean-spirited...she's just a relentless hustler. I get it, we're all trying to survive. But there's a fine line between being ambitious and making your clients feel like walking wallets. Your work is good enough to speak for itself. You don't need to chase every dollar. Let your service do the talking. Let clients come to YOU with their needs instead of you pushing off onto them what they should have. No one should feel obligated to pay for services they simply do not want and you pointing out flaws is not the answer. Sorry. Until I find someone as talented (and a little less pushy), I'll keep coming back... but girl, please, just do the work requested and let customers breathe. Four stars.
