We had the best time! Our boat arrived on time, was in very good working order, and Alex our guide was well educated in the channel of the river. He talked to us about the history of this area while we proceeded up river. We only booked a ten mile paddle but Alex was nice enough to run us up to the lake Powell dam And tell us some history of the dam and lake Powell. 2 days before we were to arrive they reached out to me and let me know of the strong 30mph winds that were planned to arrive on the day of my trip and asked if we wanted to cancel or move our start time to an earlier time. A lot of outfitters wouldn't have let you know of the conditions until you arrive knowing all along that you can't cancel after 48 hour. The wind did pick up later in the day and we couldn't fight our way thru 30mph headwinds and white caps and were forced to pull off on one of the many sand beaches but within an hour our captain Alex stopped and picked us up and portaged us the last mile. He also assisted some stranded campers that were trying to push thru the headwind in their inflatables. These camper's weren't paying customers yet seeing them stranded he knew he had to assist. I've dealt with quite a few outfitters in my day, most just take your money, drop u off somewhere and you never see them until u pull out, not with this outfitter. So you can feel comfortable knowing that they are running up and down the river looking after your safety. read more

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with these guys! Luke was an experienced guide that took us, our kayaks, and all of our camping gear and dropped us off at the dam. We stopped in several locations for him to give us advice and show us where each of the mile markers, campgrounds, bathrooms and different sights to see were. He even pointed out a couple fresh water springs we could collect water at. He gave us a safety briefing which worked out great because instead of spending two nights like we had planned we decided to only spend one because my boyfriend threw his back out and was having a tough time kayaking and loading gear. He flagged them down the next day while they were stopped at a beach and asked if they would mind transporting him back to the ferry dock. They were happy to do so! And it really saved my boyfriend a world of pain. We obviously tipped them well, but they didn't charge him a cent. I would 100% recommend this company. read more

We booked a Father's Day weekend trip and it was definitely a memorable one! We tried to do this trip two years ago but it was cancelled because of a really bad weekend storm. KTC was really communicative with us and made sure conditions were going to be safe. We picked the option to back raft and have the boat take us up to Glen Canyon Dam so we could float back and rent the equipment too. Our group camped at the Lees Ferry Campground the night before so we could be at the docks by 6:30am. Our boat guides loaded everything up for us, got us each a life jacket and off we went. The boat ride was so beautiful and our guide Tim (for half our group) was personable and knowledgeable, telling us about springs, camps, petroglyphs, and rafting best practices along the way. He even very kindly went back for a blown away hat (tip: get a hat with a chip strap and sunglasses with a strap that goes around the back of your neck. When they said "hold onto your hats" it was not a suggestion, it's a warning). Our group had a total of two inflatable two-person kayaks, one one-person kayak and a two-person canoe. We had no issues with most of our equipment, except one of our kayaks kept taking on water. At first we thought it was user error but then the people using it had to go ashore a few times to dump it out. They ended up duct taping over a spot they thought was leak. The tour guides said that when they come up and down the river to signal if there is an issue, but it's pretty difficult to hear what they were shouting out to us with the sounds of the boats and the wind. We just kept rowing along. We had planned to camp and split the trip into tow days. We had to call an audible because both camp 8 and 9 had no shade and the temperatures were well over 100 degrees. We spent some time fishing and enjoying the river but we were getting absolutely cooked by the sun (tip: bring an umbrella to make your own shade). We sat at the camps for a few hours because we decided to just power through. The entire trip actually rowing took about 6-7 hours. We paid for both days, so I'm not sure if that's refundable or not. The person who booked our trip for our group hasn't reached out yet. When we were done, there was signage that directed us where to leave the equipment if the guides weren't at the launch dock. read more

Booking this was easy through their website, as was completing the waivers. On the morning of our trip, we were asked if we wanted to go out an hour earlier on the 9 a.m. boat versus the 10 a.m. boat we had booked. We graciously accepted, as our gear was ready to go, and it would mean we would get an extra hour to explore the Horseshoe Bend area. Our captain Alex was great in explaining the different areas of the trip, and where the restrooms were located along the way. The cost is $80 per person plus fees, and even though you aren't with them long by backhauling up through allows you time to kayak back with the current and see the tremendous beauty of the area. read more

The website was very clear about how to book reservations properly and had all the answers you'd need in the FAQs. The directions to the dock were clear and check in was easy. The guy taking us up river gave us clear guidance on how to safely travel down river and all the places we could stop. We started our kayaking at the petroglyphs, made 1 restroom stop and 1 lunch stop, and did a LOT of floating without paddling and it took us about 5.5/6 hrs to get back to the dock. It was so incredibly beautiful and such a special experience. The only thing is I think I had extremely underestimated how wet I would be getting, so if you're like me and thought you'd be staying mostly dry, just be aware lol. read more

Captain Luke was in charge of getting us upstream to the dropoff point. He was very friendly and helpful to our group of 4 guys. One of our group had an oar break and my boat was leaking in back so the company sent Cpt. Luke up the next day and replaced our oar and boat out. He even gifted me and my buddy a few fishing jigs to try out on the river. We camped out 2 nights at the campground sites and both sites were mostly clean and actually no one was even there both nights. Wood is scarce so we brought Duraflames, FYI. Overall, a great experience that is highly recommended to anyone wanting to make the trek there. What a beautiful country we get to live in! read more

An unforgettable adventure -- 10/10, would paddle again! Words almost fail me -- but I'll try. This trip was epic. We did the full 15 miles from the dam (yes, our arms are still sore, thanks for asking), and it took about 9 hours of pure canyon magic. Our fearless river whisperer captain Logan made sure we were totally prepped -- pointing out the good spots, teaching us how to read the river like pros, and making sure we didn't end up paddling to Mexico. The kayaks? Clean, comfy, and surprisingly photogenic. The scenery? Straight out of a nature documentary. Wildlife was everywhere, and there were plenty of little beaches for swimming, exploring, or pretending we were castaways on a luxurious, sunny island. We had actually booked this tour through the Ken's Tours website since we were trying to do a combo tour with the one for Lower Antelope Canyon. It was a little confusing at first trying to book the tandem kayak and the backhaul taxi since it states that you need to purchase both, but I wasn't sure if we needed to book it at the same time slot or not. Luckily, one of their representatives gave me a call and made sure that it was all sorted out. They also made sure that I had purchased the right amount since I had accidentally purchased 2 as I was thinking it was for 2 people, but the unit number was actually for the tandem kayak itself. Big ups to them for explaining that to me properly and fixing it for me! The meeting place is at Lee's Ferry Boat Dock, which is about 45 min away from Ken's Tours if you start there. They did give pretty detailed instructions in the email they sent, so that was much appreciated. You do have to stop by the parking kiosk and pay a fee of $30 if you don't have an annual national parks pass. Getting to the dock itself was easy through a winding road, and there are plenty of parking spots available with a restroom nearby. Be sure to bring a water bag for your belongings, a hat, sunnies, and plenty of water! We went in May, and the temp was already in the 90s. Our captain for that day was Luke, and he was great! Friendly and attentive, making sure we knew what to expect with the specific land markings along the coast and how to signal him in case we needed to get back to the dock quickly. What we loved most about this tour was that we were pretty much left to do our own thing unless we needed help. You'll board the backhaul taxi, and the captain will ask you how long you're wanting to kayak for. From there, he'll drop you off at a certain point and off you go! Because of this, we were really able to enjoy our time on the water and take in the beauty of the Colorado River. It was an unforgettable experience for sure! read more

Review for Friday Sept 5. Supposed 9am pick up time. It was a beautiful day and our trip down the river was a lot of fun. Our boat driver was late. On our boat was an employee of your company and a writer for National Geographic. Our driver strongly encouraged us to start at petroglyph beach instead of going all the way to the dam as "it would be hard to paddle that far and get back before dark" When we booked the trip we were told by the owner that a 9 am start was more than enough time to paddle down. We actually dropped at Petroglyph beach at 10 due to the boat driver being late. Many others were dropped at the dam at this time and were getting off the water by 4pm. Not sure why our boat driver was so adamant to not take us all the way to the dam but I feel like we did not get the service we paid for. read more

Great day on the Colorado River. We got a boat ride up past Horseshoe Bend and then kayaked back down. Weather was hot as expected but the wind picked up making paddling pretty hard. Fortunately our captain drove by and saw us struggling and offered us a ride back. We wanted to hike the slot canyon so he met us back an hour later and picked us up so we didn't need to paddle the last 4 miles back. A great day on the water with a great company!! Spectacular trip to kayak downstream and camp overnight (optional) at Horseshoe Bend. This company has everything ready for you to kayak downstream. Camping requires you to take your gear that fits nicely on and inside the Kayak. The owner Brady recently sold the business but runs the lodge at Vermilion Cliffs and is great to talk to and knows Marble Canyon and more like the back of his hand! Can't wait to go back and soak in this majestic place. Tons of people were paddle boarding and camping too. read more

The experience was amazing. Highly recommend. 3 stars due to poor communication from the company. Prior to, left 2 VMs one week apart. Finally reached someone 3 weeks after first attempting. Seemed to be inconvenienced and not very forthcoming with information. Had to drag it out of her. Be aware, if you camp for the night, place kayaks as far out of the water as possible. Someone at the camp made the recommendation to us, so we did pull them about 1/2 way up the rocks; however, by morning, they were covered in algae and one had gotten loose, the other was floating free at the shoreline. Luckily, a passing kayaker rescued the one for us. Wish our taxi captain would have warned us or even provided ropes to tether them. read more

Small boat/small group, six of us. I liked this. We got taken on the boat to the kayaking starting point. Safety tips were given. We were given a choice as to how many miles we wanted to kayak. Kayak the Colorado was our choice to rent kayaks and arrange the backhaul from. They were amazing. Very easy to book and communication was stellar. We had some questions after we had booked and just called them and they answered the questions. We also had one member who got sick beforehand, and we emailed and called and canceled 48 hours prior to our departure and while I was still on the phone with them, I could see the refund in my bank account. I did not have to wait 3 to 5 business days for the refund. And they wished our member well and sorry that they would not be able to serve them. Our backhaul captain was Alex. He sized up our gear and made sure that everything would fit on our kayaks as we were going to be camping out overnight. On the trip up River, Alex stopped several times to point out features along the way and the different camp spots. We left early and he stopped at a bunch of different places to point out features of the mountains or how to look out for mile markers as we come down the river. We did end up having a great trip! There was some initial confusion about why our reserved inflatable kayaks were not available when we got to the boat launch so there were phone calls made and staff working to come up with a solution. The guys ended up giving us hard shell kayaks and bringing out some of our camping gear and inflatables later in the day so it allllll worked out in the end. Easy booking and helpful captain! We had a great time! Logan was our boat guide and did a great job. His instruction and pointing out places to check out, have lunch, use bathrooms were very helpful. He told us that the time of year we chose could have the possibility of wind being a factor blowing through the canyon and suggested we start at Petroglyph. We did start there and glad we did. The wind picked up after paddling the first 1/3 of the trip down the river and It was a totally different trip. Without the wind it was an easy trip and we could apply energy and effort according to how long we wanted the paddle to take. The first 1/3 took about 1.5 hours. The next 2/3 of the trip down took 5 hours. Without wind, no paddling needed to move forward. The second portion we had enough wind at times we had small white caps going back against the river flow and our Kayaks were moving up stream rather than down stream. It was like paddling up stream. All that said, It turned into a challenge, but it was a fun, beautiful, and incredibly satisfying to finish and experience this beautiful river and canyon. If you have time and are in decent physical shape, this trip is something you want to do. The Kayak the Colorado team and captain Logan are excellent to do it with! read more

This was seriously one of the best experiences of my life. I decided last minute that I wanted to do this kayak trip and was able to find 1 open spot at the time I wanted. My captain was super friendly and pointed out different restrooms on the river, good spots to take breaks, hiking opportunities, and some fun facts. I was drop at the petroglyph point which is just around horseshoe bend at about the 10 mile mark (pictured with small red circle). I took my time and stopped frequently for pictures, snacks, 30 minute hike, and to just take in and appreciate the view. In total it took me just over 5 hours and 15 minutes. If you are thinking about doing this solo like I did it was super affordable (when you take into account the fantastic experience) $80 to be shuttled up river and $35 to rent the kayak with life jacket, with applicable taxes. The equipment was quality and I had zero issues. read more

The paddling was great for me & my grandaughters, BUT my siter that is 70 also went & could not paddle her 1 man kayak after 5 miles. She tried to flag down 3-4 boats by waving her hands in a crossing motion as instructed but none stopped. I started to paddle a head to get her help. I stopped 4 boats than said they would send a note out to help or check on her. Nothing happened. The 5th boat stopped had heard nothing & went to check on her. My sisters son-in-law got her to get into his 2 man boat switching with a child & paddled her down. Thanks to the 5th boat captian. Our kayak trip was great! The guide gave a lot of info going up the river, and gave good advice for where to get dropped off depending on what we wanted out of the day (for us it was at mile 10). We stopped at a few if the beaches for snack and bathroom breaks, and hiked up the slot canyon--we were there on a really hot day so having shoes with a good sole was key. Starting early in the morning (our launch time was 8:00) meant that we were in the shade of the canyon walls for the first half of the trip, which was nice. We paddled almost the whole time, and got back to the cars around 1:30 pm. The only recommended improvement they could make is having a more clear "what to bring" list. We were not sure if dry bags were provided or not (they are, but for $5 cash, which we did not have). Our stuff stayed pretty dry as we had our own bags. we brought a gallon of water between two people (super important depending on the heat and time of year you are going). We also wore long sleeve fishing shirts with hoods and big sun hats to keep the sun off our faces. Reapply sunscreen often!! The highlight of the trip was seeing the wild horses, and the solitude of being on the river (when other motorized boats weren't cruising by). I highly recommend this trip! read more
