We really enjoyed Captain Elaine's narration and we learned so much. This tour is strictly a journey to the Glen Canyon Dam to get you up close and back. Most of the journey is in a no wake zone, that's why it takes 90 minutes. The canyon you travel through is beautiful and quiet. The boat is basic. The main level is enclosed and air conditioned and has comfortable seats. There is a restroom on board. They provide complimentary water and lemonade but I did not have any. The second/top level is open and standing only - no seats. While you can see everything from the first level, we enjoyed being on the top to really see all the views unobstructed. There isn't any shade on the top level so be sure to have sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Again, most of the trip is at no wake speed but there were a few spots where we went about 10 mph. It was sunny, no clouds, no wind and about 75 degrees during our 10:30 AM tour. You check in for the tour inside Lake Powell Resort. They take you down to the marina in extended golf carts. That was great because it would have been a long walk down and a very steep walk back. After the tour we enjoyed a coffee and pastry from the Wind Coffee Cafe.

There wasn't much of it, and what was said couldn't be heard anyway.

Our room was in Building 7. The rooms feel dated, and housekeeping seemed inconsistent. We had 2 bath towels, 2 makeup towels, and 1 hand towel, but no washcloths and no pool towels. The front desk said pool towels should be in the room, but there are none available at the pool itself. Our bathtub drain was clogged, so water pooled during showers, and one of the bed frames had something unpleasant on the fabric that clearly should have been cleaned. Amenities were also disappointing for a property charging a nightly resort fee. The hot tub jets were broken, the water wasn't warm, and it looked pretty dirty. The pools are not heated, so they were ice cold in April. Ironically, the hot tub appeared to finally start working the morning we checked out. Food options on site include the Driftwood Lounge, a breakfast deli, and the Rainbow Room for buffet and dinner (reservations required for dinner). The buffet was just okay -- next time I'd skip it and order an entrée instead. The hot & spicy wings at the lounge were decent. Overall, I gave it 3 stars because the staff were very kind and the views are fantastic. If we stayed again, we'd come with the expectation of enjoying the scenery rather than the amenities.

I'm sure if this was our only destination and we took advantage of some of the on site offerings, it might have been different. As it was, we were just there to sleep and would have been better off at a chain hotel.

The day before our tour, Julia called to let us know strong headwinds were expected and asked if we wanted to adjust our time. We already had a different morning tour scheduled, and they were incredibly accommodating with our plans. At the launch site, we met our guide Logan, and we were lucky that it was just our family of four on this tour. Husband and I wore aqua shoes and my daughters opted to wear their Birkenstock sandals and go barefoot, which was fine if you're okay with getting red mud on them. Logan was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I was a bit nervous since I'm a beginner kayaker, but he let us move at our own pace. It ended up being a great workout while still feeling peaceful and relaxing. The scenery was absolutely stunning. The canyon was quiet, beautiful, and not crowded at all. We paddled across Lake Powell and into the canyon, and the cool lake water felt amazing in the warm end-of-March weather (mid-80s). They provided life jackets, offered bottled water, and Logan even took photos of us both on the water and at the end of the canyon, which we really appreciated. He also shared helpful paddling tips along the way. The entire tour lasted about 2.5-3 hours and was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. John left much time for us to take cool pictures and was a wealth of knowledge. He made sure to engage with each person in the group and was successful in getting the more shy individuals to step out of their comfort zones. John and Sid (the other employee) made this tour worth it. They provided awesome recommendations for things in the area and also future outdoor related activities in the U.S. Be sure to pack enough water. Remember you are in a kayak and your items will likely get soaked. Luckily they provide one water proof bag per kayak which can hold your phone and camera. If you feel the need to pack more, I recommend that you bring your own waterproof back pack. I opted to go barefoot in the kayak and wear shoes on the hike. You will have to walk through water to get on and off of the boat. Do not let your size and fitness level deter you from this tour. Because of the delay caused by their own transportation process, we arrived at 3:32 p.m. Despite this, the front desk staff refused to rent us a boat, even though they didn't close until 4:00 p.m. The employee was dismissive and unprofessional throughout the interaction. To make matters worse, we then had to wait another 30 minutes for a golf cart to take us back. Overall, the entire experience was frustrating due to the staff's poor attitude, lack of urgency, and unwillingness to help. She also took the time to give us a thorough tutorial on how to operate the jet ski, along with some great safety tips and tricks that really helped us feel confident on the water. Tony is such a pleasant, friendly person with a great sense of humor, and she made our day even better. We spent four hours on the water (from 12 PM to 4 PM), and although it was a busy holiday, Lake Powell is so massive that it never felt congested.
