SPECIALS: The special sandwich of the day was fried fish on a round roll. (It's Friday and Lenten season so I opted to keep my mama happy.) GOOD CHOICE: While they were preparing that I shopped a bit for some Italian provisions. Olive oil from Sicily and another cold pressed single origin. MY PURCHASES: two nice olive oils from Italy, a commercial sized can of fire roasted peppers for my pan pantry, two packs of REAL philo dough ( $3.99! Yay), mozzarella, 1/2 lb of sliced roast beef, and a beautiful sandwich. What they lack in ambience they made up for in flavors. The bill of about $68, the smiles were gratis. BTW The fried scrod sandwich was about $11 and well worth it. My pet peeve is when sandwiches have shredded lettuce and instead of a whole lettuce leaf. My fault I'm sure they would've given me the whole Leaf if I had asked. As you'll see in the photograph, the fish fillet was generously portioned, dusted with Italian breadcrumbs and deep fried - not greasy at all. It was very light and flavorful, the round roll was fresh and the perfect vessel for this sandwich. I would definitely consider returning there again if I'm in the neighborhood .

The owner reached out to me through yelp to let me know that they had experienced a fire and we're trying to get the business back in operation. Our hearts go out to the family during this very difficult time. My experience with them is that they were a delightful and hospitable business operation. The food was delicious and they even customized some of their items to meet my allergy restrictions. I am hoping that they will soon be able to reopen their business and that they did not suffer too great of the financial loss in the process. I hope for the sake of our neighborhood that they get back on their feet soon. My shopping bags await that day!

I was looking at the prices for the dim sum, it seemed expensive. But, then I looked online for some of the places we used to go in Chinatown, New York, oriental grocers charged a little less than a lot of the places we used to patronize. When you consider they're doing all the work it's really a bargain! It was one thing when we would take the D train down to Grand Street and walk a couple blocks and load up; now it's major operation. I'm so glad they are still around. The owners are always very accommodating and helpful.

Poughkeepsie Farm Project is conducting it outreach this weekend and next to attract new membership. It was wonderful to meet some of the new people who are considering joining the farm as a CSA member. It's an investment to be sure. You do need to pay for your shares upfront so that the farmers know how much to plant and can budget accordingly. That being said, they do accept credit card payments and even EBT/SNAP through their website ordering system. It's fun to pick up my share because one never knows what's been picked - it's a surprise every week. There's just one more pick up before we go dormant until late spring/June. I'm preparing and storing as much as I can to hold me over because I know where the food has been grown and I know it's chemical free. If you are in the region of the Hudson Valley/Poughkeepsie town, consider joining. With the price of produce and the supply chain glitches ( don't get me started on why), being assured that you will have fresh produce, fruit, mushrooms, eggs, yogurt, and cheese from a nearby local farm lends a piece of mind
