Kazaxe is a group fitness community like no other. Everyone is welcome and everyone is celebrated. It is crazy high energy, but you do what you can do. If you need to sit in a chair and do arms you can, NO JUDGEMENT. The stage is open so any student can and is encouraged to show up on that stage and shake it. It does get hot in the summer, you just have to stay well hydrated and listen to your body. It is crowded because it is amazing!!!!!! Kazaxe is an amazing experience. I went here for the first time with some friends last week. We got there early due to the limited parking. I got in for free because it was my first time, make sure you go with somebody who've been there before because they also get "rewards" for bring new people. The place inside is literally a warehouse. The "studio" is a huge opened space with a stage in the front. The instructor and some more experience people are on the stage showing the moves. I just focused and followed this one person on the stage because the instructor tend to do random moves.. The class was really fun. I got used to it after the second song. My only suggestion is that they could put some more fans/vents in that room. I'd definitely recommend this class to my friends. It is a great way to sweat, whether or not you can dance. read more

I have been a Kazaxe customer and devotee for six years, loving its celebration of diversity and community in addition to the amazing choreography and energy of the staff. However, I sadly cannot continue to support this company due to a recent, poorly handled, and offensive customer service interaction. When a member of the Kazaxe Underground Facebook community tried to hold the company accountable for not acting in accordance with its mission (diversity and community), company reps - including the owner - responded with denial, martyrdom, gaslighting, and bullying (in that order). The three-day interaction was not only unprofessional but also in direct conflict with the company's espoused commitment to social and racial justice. The resulting controversy resulted in the company shutting down the 8K-member Facebook group on 4 June 2020. This was a disappointing moment for Kazaze. I hope the company can reflect on this incident, learn from it, and better align its actions with its mission. read more

I liked it alright, but never really felt the need to go back (although I felt the need to dance-exercise). The price is right, the instructors are very good, the location is convenient (meaning there is parking), but it was just way too loud for my comfort -and I like LOUD music when I dance. This was just a little too much...I felt like I'd been in a club for 2 straight days. Yes, they do warn you to wear earplugs, but i just don't do earplugs when I exercise. Also, the place is packed (just in case you get crowd anxiety) and there are no mirrors. That is also a big minus for me -I am used to look in the mirror when I dance (it is not a narcissism knack, it's just what I am used to)... and not having one throws me off. Overall, I think this studio is definitely worth a try! read more

Kazaxe is an amazing, tough workout...that doesn't feel like a workout! Kazaxe, also known as 'The House of Positive Vibes' is definitely worth the drive from Alexandria to Springfield to partake in their conveniently-scheduled classes. Much more calorie-burning than Zumba, I found that I had to constantly wipe tons of sweat off of myself between each song. So far, I've attended Azuka and Shannon's classes- but all of the instructors appear very fit and knowledgeable about proper form while dancing in order to prevent injury. The classes are held in a large warehouse that appears to be a Boys& Girls Club--plenty of room for participants to stretch out and move comfortably. Some people sit on the floor before class starts but I like to avoid the wads of chewed gum that litter the floor for some reason--who spits out gum on the ground indoors?! I LOVE how attendees can join the instructors on stage and do their thing--it's truly like one big party, with plenty of booty-shaking bass tunes to move to. Prices are reasonable (I bought 5-6 classes for $25) and you can swipe with a key-card and proceed immediately into the class. Parking can be tough sometimes at this location, but you'll eventually get a parking spot after waiting for the previous class to let out--no parking on the side streets or you'll get towed! One essential area of improvement (and why it received less than a perfect 5 stars)--some of the younger front-desk people could be more customer-service oriented (this past Saturday I walked in ready to scan and one of the girls working the front desk looked at me, ignored me and continued to show some other person behind the counter pictures on her cell-phone, so I guess she was too busy to bother assisting customers with getting signed-in...I noticed another customer self-scanning herself in after waiting as well, so I followed her lead and just walked in--luckily I wasn't brand-new and needed to fill out paperwork!). However I have had an awesome experience with one of the owner's family members that works at the front desk--so it's a mixed bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this workout and, having tried other dance fitness places in the region, it's one of the top dance fitness places in the D.C. area! read more

Dance Sweat Dance Sweat Repeat! I love love love this place! If you like Zumba, you will love KaZaXe! But get ready for a high intensity dance party (I did not say workout, bc you forget that you are sweating and working out). Dark room, people packed in, disco lights, blaring music, not it's not the next big club, just people (Gremlins) ready to dance! Yes, the 7:40 class is crowded (I tend to dance big and more times than none, I've touch/hit my neighbor - sorry), but you get to take a class with Azuka (pronounced Oska). We, in the DMV, get to take her class for only $5! While other people across the US (and sometimes the World) pay much more. She is our little celebrity master teacher! KaZaXe does offer more time slots, and the 8:50 class taught by Mimi is less crowded and just as fun and high intensity. So no more excuses that your commute will not allow you time to workout! read more

So, I've been going for a few months now and go every week with friends. It's a great workout - really motivating and fun! Plus it's only 5 bucks, which is awesome. The reason I'm only giving it 3 stars is because it gets way too crowded. There is a lot of dancing and movement and you need space to do that, which there is none. It makes it very uncomfortable because you are always getting hit by other people. I wish they would find some way to solve that issue b/c it really is a great class. read more

I've been attending Kaza for a few years now, on and off. In a month I got a nicely shape butt. Asuka does make you work, but her energy is so contagious that the hour goes by fast. The music, the vibe, and the unique environment makes the drive worth it. Also, for those that can't or preferred not to drive all the way to Kaza. The online classes are just as fun, same intensity, same energy, and it won't allow your body to sit down. Lately, I've been feeling super stress out and the online classes were just what I needed. I had no time to stress out during class and when it was done I had no time to focus in the negative things in my life. I was so relax. LOVE KAZA! I LOVE THIS CLASS! Last week was my first class and even though I thought I was going to fall out a few times, I was in HEAVEN. This is exactly the type of dance fitness class I've been looking for. It's a bit of a trek from DC via metro but it's definitely worth it. The prices are very reasonable and they have classes 7 days a week! So glad I was told about this place. This workout is absolutely amazing. The instructing team has great enthusiasm, and a great sense of fun. The energy is intense in the room. I went the first time after I moved to DC, and I thought to myself, "OK, you are driving 7 miles from the district to a strip mall, and you appear to be working out in a Boys and Girls Club Bingo Hall, behind a questionable Shoppers grocery store. Is this some ploy to mug adventurous DC residents?" But, the workout was the best latin-dance style workout I've ever attended. I'm a licensed Zumba instructor, and this style is more intense and more fun. Unlike some of the Zumba fitness classes at the Y, you feel like you are at an actual party, learning dances that you would love to break out on the floor of the club. I have unbridled enthusiasm for Asuka and her team of instructors. Great time, great workout. Worth bringing friends. read more

Went for my second time in 1 week...originally afraid walking in that it would be the same routine that caused me to be sore for 3 days straight afterwards.. buuuuuuttttttt IT WAS A DIFFERENT ONE!!! YAAAAAYYY!!! :D I'm not concerned about being bored going to the same place and getting stuck in the same routine. I like it here b/c the moves are simple enough for you to go home and replicate on your own during ur off days. I also felt silly walking in w/ my camelback when everyone else has water bottles or those non BPA nalgene like bottles.. but I walked out pleased thinking it was a fabulous idea! 1. More volume - I can drink waaay more water 2. When you can't lift your arms anymore, you don't have to... b/c the mouthpiece is light and you don't have to hold anything in place to drink from :) read more

Having been to Zumba about twice a week for half a year and being new to this area, I decided to give this place a try. While in the busy mall, I could not find the place. So I called them. A friendly lady picked up and said, "Drive around the corner and we are behind the mall!" So there I was! About to enter an auditorium in the basement of a mall. I got the chance to meet the dad of Asuka at the reception place. Told him that I was there the first time. He was like, "This is going to be different from Zumba! Asuka was one of the top 10 Zumba masters... She is my daughter - here she is!" I could tell that he was really proud of her! Yes, the hall was quite packed. I got lucky and found a spot on the side of the second row. So there I was, in a class taught by Azuka. The class was like a cranked up Zumba class!! Be ready to sweat. Be ready to get loose. The music was loud. The disco light was bright. One thing I noticed was that Azuka did not dance all the time - on the stage, there was always an enthusiastic crowd who led us through the songs. Some of them were really good! We all had a GREAT TIME sweating!! I was sore till 2 days after :D By the way, don't be intimidated by the video on the website if you are checking it out the first time. The routines are actually quite manageable. The thing is that they are just very fast. If you are like me, who have been doing Zumba for a few months, you will find the class manageable and fun! If you are new, you will still have a lot of fun because NOBODY cares, and the only point of the class is to HAVE FUN!!! read more

New to the area and have always wanted to try a Zumba class but always fed into stereotype that the classes are for women but am very happy I tried it cause I'm hooked after one class! It kicked my ass! I am not a fan of cardio but know how important it is and force myself to get on the treadmill but this is actually fun cardio! I went on a Sunday morning and the class was packed which you would think would make it more intimidating but it was very comfortable to see how diverse of a group was there. Only thing that was tough was it being my first time I knew non of the moves but will hopefully get more and more comfortable the more I come. read more

Yesterday was my first class, and it kicked my booty. I loved the energy of the teacher and that there were many people to watch on the stage. I danced for 6 years, and to be honest I've never had such a workout. That's saying something! The price is awesome, and my girlfriends and I had a blast laughing and trying to push through the workout. The sense of accomplishment once we finished was great! Word to the wise, make sure you drink LOTS of water the ENTIRE day before and after the class!! I didn't drink water before the class and cramped up immediately. I love this place! I originally signed up for a Zumba class at the community center near my home, and was not impressed. It took awhile for my cousin to convince me to try Kazaxe, especially since I live 30 min away from Alexandria w/out traffic. Well, I'm glad I finally decided to come out. This class is amazing. The owner/main instructor Asuka is awesome- gorgeous, funny, and motivating. I usually go to the 7:40pm class and there are at least 100+ people in class each night. No one cares if it's your first time/you have no rhythm/your out of shape. Everyone is there to have a great time! I love that there is no contract to sign. The first class is free (gotta love that) all you have to do is stop by the desk and say it's your first time. After that simply pay $5 each time you go. Plus there's a discount if you purchase a bunch of classes at once. Don't be put off by the location. Once you arrive at the strip mall, go around the back by the Total Wine and you will see a bunch of cars parked and people (men too) in exercise clothing. Older children are welcome too as long as they can keep up with the class (I say around 7-8 years and up). I just had a baby and I couldn't wait until I was cleared by my doctor so I could go back. From the outside (and inside really) this looks like a beat up bingo hall. I was a little bit skeptical when a friend told me we should attend the class, but I figured for 5$ why not. The class is GREAT. It is high energy, it is fun, you sweat, and you are sore the next day. What else can you ask for? The music is loud, the class has both men and women in it, and it is a lot of fun, almost to the point that you don't realize it's a work out - other than the fact that your sweating and out of breath. With the loud music and the lights, I feel like I could be dancing at a club except I'm in sneakers and shorts instead of heels. The 5:15pm class is perfect for those of us looking for a great workout right after work. If you didn't get enough of a workout during class, Farrah adds 10 minutes of squats and abs after her classes. It is 200 squats and your quads will be burning, but it is worth it! read more

Um how did I not know about this class until this year? I am recently a new member and I am ADDICTED. The music, the dances, the enthusiastic instructors make working out fun, and exciting. Just when you are about to give up, that one song comes on and gets you hyped for another round of intense cardio! It's funny, because before this class I didn't know arms, calfs, or stomachs could sweat. That should show you how hard you work in this class. Stop making excuses about not having time, money or energy to exercise. There are classes throughout the day and even late classes for all the late workers! Its $5 per class, and if you have your friends come there are incentives to get free classes! Also, the atmosphere, music and bomb ass instructors will give you more energy than 2 redbulls. SO GO! LOL! When i think of Kazaxe, i don't think of exercise i think of dancing, i LOVE dancing. My incentive is, let's go dance! When i get there-9:45am, no lines, easy to find parking. Can't say that for the 7:40 class. As soon as we start it's all energy, midway-i am hating the place, it kicks my butt!!! and thinking to my self "just walk out, and never come back" of course i push myself to the finish, later when i have gotten home i plan to go back, because honestly is the best dance-class there is. I like all the instructors, even though the 2 new instructors do too much booty moves, instead of core, and legs. Mimi is my favorite uses more varied music, and i feel the workout all over my body. Love this place! PS. the late night classes very crowded and it get hot!! in the little room. read more
